Hi everyone

Now I had a feeling this stuff was going to be addictive but was WOW I'm impressed!

The postman delivered my starter kit this morning (thanks Barry) and I dived straight in and had a go. Now most sensible people would have used a few pieces of card getting to know the iron and practising techniques, but oh no, not me. I just get straight in there and attempt a landscape! :r

But apart from the glaringly obviously mistakes, like iron shaped shrubbery, lol, I'm really happy for my very first attempt at putting wax on card.

I think I'll spend some time now on techniques and things before I attempt another landscape. I can see me emailing Barry for more supplies by 6 tonight!

Here we go, go easy on me!

Amanda

Very autumnal colours!

For a first attempt I think you did a good job! Don't worry too much about iron marks at this stage. You need to get used to the feel of painting with an iron, rather than with a brush. It feels so alien at first, doesn't it?

Concentrate on the basics and practice, practice, practice! Get used to which colours go well together and think about your composition (this one has good perspective) You'll soon be churning out the A3s!

Well done!

Wow indeed, Amanda :thumbup; To be honest, I think nearly everybody here would have been happy to produce such a good landscape at first go :) The iron marks are not intrusive, nor are they of themselves "wrong" ;) Indeed, the marks left by different parts of the iron can be incorporated very effectively :thumbup; One of the beauties of encaustic is that there isn't a "wrong way" at all ;)

Your foreground flowers. in particular, are excellent :art:

Thanks everyone for such lovely comments.

The beauty I see in this medium is that you will never stop learning and some of the greatest work will come from mistakes. There's no talent needed, just learn a few basics and the wax and the iron will do it all for you!!

Is there a support group available for families of wax addicts as I think my hubby may need the number!!!

Right, best go, no time for chat...must wax! :r

See you later guys :ghug:
