Venice; Got my stylus!

My lovely friend went and bought me a stylus today, she knew how much I was after one but was knew I was saving a few pennies as I've gone a bit craft mad this month!

Anyway here goes. This piece started off as one of my scraps from practice with the iron. The background colours reminded me of Turner's paintings of Venice and as venice is my favourite place on earth I thought I'd have a go. Turner I aint :r but I enjoyed doing it all the same.

I took two photos as it shines different from various angles as I used silver. The water line/horizon looks wonky because I took the photo on a dodgy angle and couldn't square it any better.

Hi Amanda, I love the colours, and the way you've depicted the water is very good.
You need to set your own Encaustic Gallery to showcase your stuff!

Hi Amanda

Wow that is fab!, did you paint before EA, I am absolutely rubbish at drawing anything which is where I get stuck! You must have been able to draw?

Well Done brilliant work :thumbup;

Thanks Sally and SallyAnne

I have dabbled before. Did get some paid work once doing more contemporary formula one scenes (I'm a big F1 fan). I have fits and start really and get bored, very little patience and that's why I just love EA as it's so quick, cheap to do once you've bought the initial tools and so many ways to experiment with.

I'm not too fond of the Venice one but I've decided to post everything as it will be nice to look back on when hopefully I've improved.

I put 'encaustic art' into google images earlier and was blown away at some of the pieces that came up, really inspirational, some people have so much imagination!

I suppose I should do a gallery on here really but to be honest I haven't a clue where to start. I'll have a browse through the forums for tips!

Thanks again for your lovely comments. :ghug:

Simply stunning Amanda.

I'm a huge fan of the stylus, and I also love layering the wax on thick, to get that wonderful textured finish that you have on the water..

I find thick wax similar to the textures achievable with thick oil paints,.. (not that I've tried them yet)

I really look forward to seeing lots more of your great work.

The first one is my favourite, but they are both fantastic! What sizeare they?

You know that you can wax on canvas too, and I reckon something like this would work really well on that surface.

Turner is also one of my fave artists and I reckon you did him proud!

Amanda, I realy like your E/A work? The skies are very Turner like, I agree.
To do a photobucket gallery, just go to photobucket and follow the on line instructions, then copy the link into your signature( ask Steve about this, he'll make you a button for us to access your gallery.
Poppy.

By the way, no reflection on your painting, but Venice is my least fave place in the world. For some reason just looking at pictures of Venice give me the hebe-jebie's!!! I couldn't stand all that water around me all the time? :faint:

You're all so complimentary :ghug: I must say that looking through everyones galleries here is very inspiring. I love the work you all do here, you're all so talented!!

Poppy, thanks for the gallery tips, I'll go and do that. I suppose if you don't like water then Venice would be last on your holiday destination list :r

Maria..bless you. The size is A5, the ones that came with my starter pack. I love the idea of waxing onto canvas...as long as it's a very little canvas :o

It did seem really strange how the two photos of the one picture came out so different just by standing at a different angle. I just mixed a couple of peachy pinky colours to one of my previous sludgy botch jobs and the iron did the rest.

Col...not a clue how I got the textures, lol, and I love oil too but have never managed to work with it successfully. I tried the tissue transfer yesterday.....now that certainly needs some practice. My husbands face was full of horror :o when he came home to see the front room covered in brown streaked tissue paper everywhere....ewwww!!!

Willow, Terry, thank you both :hug: .

I was very lucky to see a Turner exhibition in Venice a couple of years ago. It was breathtaking.

:ta: again everyone. I'm so pleased I found this place!

Phenomenal, Amanda! :art: :faint: No wonder you wanted a stylus :o I've had a go at a Venice scene in watercolour but would never have even thought of doing it in encaustic :D It's worked superbly! :thumbup;

As Poppy says, Photobucket is the best option for a gallery, especially as you can create sub-albums and you get loads of space :thumbup; If you do create a gallery, just PM me with the link and I'll put the button in your signature :)

Steve :)
