Hey everyone. I want to do a scrapbook about my trip to Europe (which ended just a few weeks ago). But I don't know where to start. Can anyone tell me what kinds of materials I need to start? Thanks

Hi FGG and welcome to the boards. My advise would be to first visit a craft shop and see all the thing available for scrapbooking. The beauty of this craft is you can make it as fancy or as plain as you like. You can use a premade scrapbook or you can even turn a note book or journal into a scrapbook. It is all up to you. You can make elaberate layouts or just glue copies of all your postcards and photoes onto the pages and then write in details about your trip. I would strongly advise that you do not glue on your real cards and photoes as some paper and glue has acid in it that will damage your cards and photoes. You can put them on acid free paper and use acid free glue You can also decorate the cover of your book with a collage of pictures or even paint the cover. There are really no set rules. Just make it your own. Hope this gives you an idea on how to start.

Great advice, Mardar ![]() One advantage with the modern scrapbooks is that many are expandable, where the older kinds of books aren't There are so many things available, both from craft shops and free off the internet, that you can use to embellish scrapbooks, and of course you can create your own using the computer ![]() We'd love to see your progress, Francisco Steve

Believe me, I'd go to a craft shop if there was one anywhere near me. The only problem is I live in Mexico, which isn't really a country where this kinds of crafts are encouraged. So you're saying I could buy a binder, put some ruled paper in it, and start pasting and commenting on my pictures and postcards? Do you think using scotch tape would be a good idea? This is starting to sound like it's gonna be a ton of work, I mean, i have over a thousand pictures and postcards (not exagerating)... I think I'm freaking out here!

you could use photo corners, tape can dry and turn yellow! over a thousand pictures????? wow thats some trip you took! you could always put your favouites in your scrap book and the rest into a photo album, we have the sort that you slip the pictures into, that means they can be removed, thats quite handy if you have postcards that you have written on. I have an album and all the bits to put in it.......but im abit scared of starting work on it! doh! if you have acess to ebay, there are plenty of cheap items available, maybe your local libary has some books on scrap booking too, that will give you some idea were to start! good luck, I would say that planing your album will take some time but will be worth it in the long run, you will have a priceless keepsake for you and your family to enjoy for many years to come! (and welcome by the way! mexico seems very far away from us here in England!)

Fgg, please whatever you do make sure what you are using, I mean EVERYTHING, is ACID FREE? Otherwise over time the glue, tape and paper will disintergrate and your precious photo's and postcards will be spoilt beyond compare! You can but little pens that are inexpensive to test for the acidity. Find a good scrapbook site on the internet and they'll explain everything for you in their frequently asked questions. There are a few of us that do do scrapbooks(Jen ) for one, I haven't got into them at all, but thst's not to say i won't eventually You'l be able to tell US what to do soon?? Hope this helps. Poppy ![]() Sorry Mardar, only just read your advice you gave her already??? |

Hello FGG Yesterday I started my first proper scrapbook........I have recently come back from my old school m8s hen party and I took my faithful camera and recorded the evening I am now in the process of making her a scrapbook of her hen party as a wedding presant...............It is a long job(no where near as long as yours) as I only have about 50 photos!!!I suggest you start at the begginig of your trip.....Print off comments via your printer with perhaps different type....add little bits of embellishments that correspond with the photos.....If Steve lets me show what I have done.....I will post what I have done on here so far...might give you some ideas Ok I hope my dribbling helps you Jinny |
