I am "getting into" rubber stamping, and I have made a simple mat and stack card using a stamp designed by Amanda Dray (her first commercial venture)

Here is the card - what are your opinions, please ?

Thanks for that suggestion. I tried the stamp with the Art Impressions ones - aiming for a rural scene - but couldn't colour the stamp quickly enough and even though I gave it a good huffing (!) it didn't work; however, I am going to have another go, this time just colouring the chickens but not the background (there is more background than you can see on the card, as I trimmed the sides down).

I have a gate - and a farm wagon - I could maybe work the chickens in with those somehow - will have to experiment further !

Sylvia to get the chickens to sit right with the other background stamps you could mask off the chicken area, stamp the wagon and gate then restamp the Chicken to make it look as if it is in front of the gate and wagon or whatever. Use stick-it note paper, it is perfect for masking out stamps. :yip:

I agree some colour would bring the picture to life. I saw a similar stamp done in paints on another site, if I can find it I'll let you know and it will give you some ideas. Lovely wall paper, it would look good with flowers too. :thumbup;

Hi Poppy, wish I had thought of using those - I forked out for a bottle of masking fluid !

I expect you've seen Amanda's gallery ? She has done some terrific cards with her chicken stamps don't you think ? You won't be disappointed with your stamp when you get it , mine is excellent quality and Amanda included some nice extras - 3 types of backing paper, a sheet of hessian, some brads and some chicken feathers.

It's a shame I'm not more experienced as she is really looking forward to seeing what cards people make with her stamps - you for instance are sure to have lots of good ideas with your artistic teaching background.

Hi Jo, yes I am on both sites - Poppy told me about this one. Sorry, I didn't realise you hadn't twigged that it was me, here too.

I expect the designs you were thinking of would be Amanda's own - there are some excellent cards on her picturetrail, is it those ? I am glad that Poppy is getting a chicken stamp too, she has the artistic flair that I very much lack (sadly, not really an ideas person) and Amanda is very keen to see what people come up with, using her stamps.

Erm .... well ..... just a weeny bit, Poppy ?????? Understandable, of course. I am pleased for Amanda that you are going to do some designs using her chickens. I am going to try another chicken card this morning - you might see it if it works out !!!! If it hits the bin, you won't !

Actually - I have just altered it a bit - I thought that hessian straight onto white card was maybe wrong ? So I have tried it with a mat underneath. What's the verdict, please ?

Thanks for the kind comments, Poppy, but no way am I as good as you, I am NOT kidding myself about that !

I am really pleased that I managed to come up with something other than the mat and stack card I started with though, as Amanda is so keen to see what people make using her stamps; I dithered quite a lot, as I had pictures of eggs, stacker trays of eggs, boxes of eggs, and even a box of Cadbury's cream eggs !!!!

Anyway, it's done now, so I can relax - I will see what I can do with the chickens and my Art Impressions stamps a bit later on.

I shall be very interested to see what you come up with once you get your chicken stamp and have time to design with it.

You could end up working with a donkey stamp too - Suzie2 on the other site admired the donkey card in Amanda's picturetrail and said she would be interested in a donkey stamp - from Amanda's reply, it seems that this will be her next one.

Actually - thinking about it - it could be a good one for Christmas cards ?

Anyway, for now - good luck with the chickens

Hi Sylvia,
Your chickens are great ... i look forward to seeing more farmyard scenes as i think they are lovely and a bit different too ... good luck ... love the chick and the eggs one too and i dont think it would look out of place on a white background as the aggs are light coloured ?? give it a try and play around with things.. just dont be afraid ... most of all enyoy it!!! I am a person who could never draw but I am having a great time with sketching and now have oil paints,(might use one day!!!), water colour pencils and acrylic paints !!! There is hope for all us would be`s!!! lol

have fun,

Thanks Justien,

Amanda's stamp is excellent quality and I bought one because I think it would be a handy stamp for men's cards (in fact I now have two made and ready, don't I ?!) I will try it again with my Art Impression stamps a bit later on - think there are possibilities there - but I have a parchment card to make and it's needed for 2nd September so that is number one priority at the moment

I know what you mean about colouring - I am not too bad with the polychromos pencils but pretty naff with every other colouring medium !

Poppy has been testing Amanda's backing papers and is about to try designing with the stamp, so - watch this space !
