I just got offered my first ever solo exhibition!!!!
I had a call from someone at Colchester Library to say that they had had a cancellation, and that as my name was first on the reserve list and would I like to have an exhibition there in March!!! (I'm still shaking! )Naturally I'd be a fool to say 'no', so the exhibition will run from 2nd to 30th March at the Central Library in Colchester! I will be showing several different styles of encaustic art, from abstract to fantasy, though a price range has yet to be finalized! That's all for now folks...I'm still a tad speechless, but I just wanted to share it with you! Maria x Excuse me a mo (runs outside)............ SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I think that's the best space out of all the Essex libraries. If you need any help, give me a call. |

Panic just set in when OH thought he couldn't get time off work to help me haul my paintings to the library on the hanging-day. Now he reckons he can go in a bit later, which will give him time to help out! Phew! For a minute there I was beginning to worry that I'd have 10ft arms carrying everything up to the exhibition area. Just trying to plan a poster now. Got a few ideas running round my head, but I am not all that good with graphics HELP!!! Maria x |

It shouldn't be too bad, Maria; you should be allowed to drive into the delivery bay under the library and get the lift up from there. I can come and help you if your OH can't do it. |

Thanks Annette. I'll certainly keep you up to date with everything! I'm still me you know though!
It's taken a LONG time to get this and I am going to savour every moment while it lasts. Could all go pear-shaped at some point, so we'll see! Don't expect to sell much, but at least it raises the profile, not just mine, but EA in general! That HAS to be a good thing!Been putting some ideas down about a poster and I think I have come up with a winner. Won't let you see it just yet though! I'm going over to the library on Monday to have a chat with the person who rang me today. Luckily, since I used to work with her I think she will see me OK! I also know the building very well (hell...I've shelved enough books there to last a life-time! ) so that will help matters!Just need to sort out prices now! That might be difficult....don't want to sell myself short, but at the same time I don't want people to think they are too expensive. It's a tough one to get right! Maria x |

That's really good of you Barry. I'll have to wait and see what Chris says nearer the time. Could be that he can get the morning off. Might well take you up on the offer though...will let you know. Thanks! I remember that loading bay only too well! And that lift was always getting stuck! Maria x |

Just wish I could offer assistance too, Maria
I make a pretty good shopping cart ![]() I wouldn't even know where to start on pricing I've always been hopeless at that
On the few watercolours I've sold, it's always surprised me how much folk are willing to pay - even for unframed pieces

Funny, but I have always had the opposite feeling! Mind you...it's be great if that all changed now! Chris has a gallery at one of his libraries. It's actually Chelsea library....now THAT would sound good on paper, wouldn't it? All the rich and famous live up there so I could easily add a few noughts to the price! Only trouble is getting the paintings there...plus the long waiting list....oh and the astronomical hanging fees..... Still....one day......... Maria x |

Maria, now Mayfair Library.... I did know an oil painter years ago who had a painting noticed by this little old man, at a charity auction. Well, the old man won the auction - handsomely - and then asked to meet the artist
The organisers, thrilled by how much they'd raised, incautiously introduced them to each other ![]() Two weeks later, the artist's paintings were being shown in the foyers of a chain of rather well known hotels all around the world And all bought for a stunning amount of money
The artist was flabbergasted ![]() Steve |
