I have finally finished my fairy door, I am very pleased with the results. The door was biscuit fired at collage last week, I am amazed it survived as it had a crack in it when it was drying out <_< this is the biscuit fired door. ![]() I stood in the porring rain in my garden yesterday to smoke fire it in a bucket of sawdust and newspaper and it came out like this , the stress fracture broke it cleanly in two so after brushing the soot off and a bit of superglue, I polished it with beewaz and this is how it came out ![]() I put it in our hall way and my children sat and watched to see if any fairies came through, but everyone knows they only come out when no one is around so after they went to bed I sprinkled sone fairy dust around it
you should have seen their faces this morning,

Looks wonderful, Mags And I love the reactions of your kids ![]() Paper does burn very hot (451 deg F) so you might be better using something like hay I'm not sure what temp you need to achieve, but hay if very slightly moist will burn slower and longer
You could also try straw and other materials, like charcoal, that will still give you good rich colours

It looks great even though it cracked. You must be an expert with the superglue. My hubby always sticks his fingers together, so we don't use it any more! <_<
