hi folks, I have at last got some raised beds for my veggie garden, before I was just digging the patch and growing straight in the dug earth, putting raised beds in will help keep the paths clear and be alot easier to weed and rotate crops....hopefully there is still alot of work to be done, a proper path needs to be laid inbetween the beds as you can see from the photo's I have a few kale plants and leeks in from last year, (hense the leeks growing in the path) I shall leave them as I pull them when I need them ![]() We have also moved the chicken run, sadly its still empty, hopefully I will get some more chucks soon. The blue tarp is covering our log store, that should move soon too, I am itching to get planting, the green house is full of lettuice, courgetts, beans and peas, all waiting to go out into the beds, lets hope the weather holds as I am hardening them off at the moment. Out into the sun during the day and back into the green house at night, ![]() magz

Great job Magz, \Well we are still in the middle of building our greenhouse and we hav e a huge patio,(slabs), to build and 3 beds that also need raising ... it will be a lot easier as you say .. i thought if i could find some railway sleepers cheap somewhere they would make nice raised beds eh?? My little fruit trees etc are in flower ands starting to look really pretty too.. I have broad beans and peas indoors ready to fly out of the roof and my red onions and rhubarb are coming up outside.... cant wait to use my G/H then i can plant loads more seeds!! Jenx |

jen, sleepers are very heavy and the old ones are creosoted, so not to good for growing veggies near methinks we used packs of wood from Wickes, I wanted to use old scaffold planks, but they were expensive from salvage, I have two huge compost heaps next to each other called Eric and Ernie, at the mo I am working my way through eric, I shall use "him" to earth up tatties when needed and to bulk up the raised beds too. Ernie seems to be growing daily, what with weeding and grass mowing (thats o.h's contribution to the gardening )I have red onion sets sprouting too I put some old cloves of garlic next to them, and sowed some carrots in that bet too (no sign of them yet), its supposed to keep carrot fly at bay, luckily we have'nt had any probs with those yet
lets hope this weather stays good for the weekend I think we shall both be busy @ sally........ our neighbours keep themselves to themselves, I do see them occasionaly, nice people, bit of a hate thing with squirrels tho, but thats another story

Hi Magz, We have 2 compost bins... i also have some garlic in a big pot , bought it new as i havent had much luck with bits from in the house in the past! I have put a couple of pics on my thread in here if you want to see the kind of size my garden is ??? Oh and arent you lucky to get gardening help ... i do all the planting , weeding and lawn mowing ... the grass takes me about 1 1/2 hours to cut!!!... thinking of getting rid of the hedge near the house ... may grow one across the bottom of my garden as neighbours fence is coming down a lot,(see pics) I went in my downstairs cloakroom this morning and got attacked by a broadbean!!! its no good they have to go out for hardening... today!!! jenx |
