Well it's spring and with all the lovely weather we have had over Easter( except for today, it was wet and cold ) I have been out in my garden. I was cutting back some woody shrubs and generally tidying up the front garden borders and just peeped over into the cottage garden i made a few years ago, full of blubells waiting to spill their glorious colours among the purple heather and dafodills.

These all come out just before the Iris's, Poppies and Peonies take over the cottage garden. BUT i spied a tiny little 6" stem with 3 very beautiful full sized Magnolia flowers on, the pear shaped white/wine coloured type? I could not believe my eyes? :thumbup; They are magnificent, and yet they have still to open. I thought that little stem was dead?

I bought it at a flower show up at Holka Hall, 2 years or so ago as a Magnolia Sellata, a white star shaped Magnolia that grows about 3ft high? But this looks like the proper Magnolia that will reach for the skies in few years?
But as little as it is , it is gorgeous! :thumbup; Of course I will have to move it in a couple of years, or even before, but i couldn't beleive my luck in having 3 flowers on that 6" slender stem. :yip: :yip:
I am going to get a photo of it to show you.

I maybe wrong, i looked out this morning and they appear to be opening like the petals on the Stellata, but must have a closer look and take picture too. Either way i love it whatever it turns out to be, a huge monster of a tree or the smaller shubby sort of magnolia. :thumbup;
Jen how sad it would be to have to leave a Magnolia when you moved? :huggy:

Poppy I dont usually like Magnolias, they always remind me of lobster pincers or alien claws :ph43r:

However, I saw one the other day on my travels and it looked like a small bush and was really pretty, It was a magnolia :D

I took a couple of pictures of the Magnolia, it is the Stellata one, so no need to dig it up later to move it.
Sally I love all Magnolia's, i know what you mean about the lobster claw look, but I would love to be able to paint those ones.
When i have used up the film i will put it on here. It looks cute being only about 6" tall , the lable is as big as it?
