I have been talking to DH about cloches that I need and have asked him if he could make me a netting cover that i can remove through the dayas i have made a very crude cover by bashing 4 stakes in and put my netting over it ,(we have a massive amount of Pidgeons and crows!!!...

My seeds outside havent broke ground yet...... yesterday i put some cabbage seeds in between the peas ....

DH is going to do a bit more to the patio today and then he will start the next raised bed!! Its all jolly hard work but will be well worth it in the end!!

I am sure pics will follow!! :r :r :r :r :r

hi jen, I usualy put netting over my brasica's to stop pigeons pecking the heck out of them, if you do make some net covers, dont forget to use very small mesh and have it tall enough so that butterflies cannot land on leaves and lay eggs on to the tips of leaves :thumbup;

I caught a pigeon helping its self to turnip seedlings yesterday, so I have strung up some old cd's to scare them off. <_<

You can make a very effective net cage using fine mesh Netlon and long, thin willow "wands" ;) Because the willow is so flexible, you can drive both ends into the ground like arches and then attach the Netlon using the green garden split rings :thumbup; Of course, if your veg patch is wide then that creates more of a problem :D

You can do the same to make cloches - but using polythene dustsheets instead of the Netlon ;)

Steve,

We have a roll of what the dogs pen is made of... thick wire mesh with holes about 3 inches sq.. its pliable so we will bend it to cloche shape and cover with polythene... Our number one raised bed is big , the one he is doing now is less wide so will be much easier for me to handle!

:ta: V.. I will be putting more on soon ...

just had my daughter and family here for a few days ... they went back to ireland yesterday and tomorrow i have a sister, 2 nieces and one of thier hubbys coming for the w/end ... so quick turnaround with the beds and another clean up so they can mess it all up again ...

Ilove having visitors though, and having 2 of my g/children here was lovely ... even Jet had got used to them enough to miss them as when we got back yesterday she had been scratching the paint off the door jam and left a nice little pile!! ... good job we havent started any decorating yet!!

Roy is busy making staging for my greenhouse and has loads of tools out all over my lovely patio !!!
