How much would you want to pay if you saw it in a garden centre or similar, and can anyone add advise about how these places pay the crafter/artist.

Here is the link to the Celtic Circle Celtic Circle 12"

I'd go for about £12 - £15 since it is rather large! Never sell yourself short :thumbup;

agree with Maria

12" is a good size, so charge a reasonable amount for it :)

I am with Maria & Ros, go for at least £15.00 :thumbup;

I am sure that they will be very popular at garden centres if they are displayed right :thumbup;

Hi Sal

when I used to make items for Wiccan/head /new age shops I found that to start (if they were a little unsure) go down the road of sale or return . Once they got to know me and my quality it always changed to regular orders

Once a few places have your item/s then you don't need the sale or return

With ref to the garden centres I found small individual ones to be OK but the large ones will ask for huge AND I MEAN HUGE quantities as they have to supply all their out lets ( been there LOL)

One thing I will say is make sure you can prove copyright ,I once had someone (a company larger than myself)copy something I had designed an then threatened to take me to court if i did not stop making them(my most popular item).

Because I could prove (pics blanks various different mouldings and carvings plus a sealed envelope addressed to myself unopened containing pics etc ) The DTI ( yes I was very worried) told me not to worry as bigger companies try to intimidate smaller ones

This only occured once so don't be put off I had a great time , turned a hobby into a living brill
:thumbup;

Have fun and I hope it all works well for you

have just been to the local garden centre .. Wyvale.

Noticed they had some 12" painted stone things ... not as nice as yours though Sal ;)

anyway, they were selling at £ 7.00 each, or 3 for £20.
Obviously mass produced at a place like that, so your pricing should take into account the individuality of the article.

Hi sal, I would pay 12-15 £'s :thumbup;

what is important is to work out how much aprox each one cost to make, this I am sure you already know :thumbup;

it then depends how much overheads retailers stick on ontop. Thats the tricky one, if you sell at boot fairs for £10, you get your tenner :thumbup;

I have no idear what the going rate of mark up is these days, maybe someone else on craftboard does.

what ever root you take I hope it goes well, you have a great product at the end of the day :thumbup; :thumbup; :thumbup; :thumbup;

Covering the cost of the article and adding time and profit is a difficult thing, it should be easy!

I once made some computer cards for a small florist, I charged the lowest price I could and whilst I stood in the shop she marked them up 50p a card! I only made about 15p a card for my time! :r I learned a valuable lesson that day - or should I say an expensive one! :r

So make sure you cover yourself!
