Copper Tape; Anyone used it?

Hi all...raining here and very blustery - but garden looks overjoyed at seeing a drop of the wet stuff....

Because I won't use any chemicals on my garden (it is mainly for wildlife) I bought a roll of copper tape from ebay yesterday to put around tubs so snails and slugs won't cross over it (gives them a tiny but completely harmless electric shock)...and eat my lettuces...(which they do every year)

Anyone tried it......and how did you find it? If it was any good - do you think you could cut it in half (it would then be 150mm wide) and you'd then have twice as much (cheapskate :thumbup; )

Love x :wave:

Never heard of that Terry? :thumbup; Sounds good and very humaine too. :thumbup;
I don't have that problem with them eating stuff like that in my garden. I actually like slugs and i try not to kill them, i always think of the poor hedgehog that needs them as his food.
Now frogs, yes i 'd dispose of them if i could stand looking at them long enough? :r :r :r :r

Hi Terry,

Wet and windy here too ... thank goodness i cut the grass, did my digging and planting yesterday instead of leaving it for today!

I have read about the tape you mention in my garden mags and the experts speak highly of it , but i havent tried it yet ... not seen any slugs here yet .. hate the things they devour most things dont they ... yuk!

Poppy , frogs love slugs and snails as well as the birds.....

Yesterday i saaw a pair of green finches and 1 blue *careful!* in my garden.. I was so pleased .. and hope its the start of more to come as I only had pidgeons , starlings and Sparrows before!!

Hi Poppy - every time I see Mr. Froggie I think of you (in the nicest possibly way, of course :rolleyes: )

If we lived closer - I'd come and collect all your unwanteds and he'd be in his element.......

I think we still have a hedgehog, and you have to keep the balance right all round - kill off one thing, and it's the demise of another.....

And anyway slugs are really OK - and snails are the cutest things (love the stripeys we're seeing at the mo) in fact even spiders - which frighten the life out of me - well, I wouldn't dream of killing them.......

Here's what I bought - only 4.79 incl. Oh well if it doesn't work - I'll use it as a craft embellishment :lol: :thumbup; :thumbup; :thumbup;

Terry, copper works really well :thumbup; Believe it or not, I used to be fascinated by brass instruments :wacko: At one time, my Dad made the mistake of leaving some copper pipe around, which I converted into an instrument that worked surprisingly well :D Well, I made the mistake of leaving it outside one evening, it rained, and the wind blew, and the thing fell down. When I remembered it, I went out and their were snails everywhere - except inside the circle of copper :thumbup; In fact, I watched a couple slide up to it, touch it, and immediately retract before heading off elsewhere :D

when I were lad I made a doo doo once with a comb and some silver paper out of a cigarette packet. then you put your lips on it and just go doo doo doo and I used to drive my mother nuts with it :r :r

If that doesn't deserve another badge, I don't know what does ;)

Really Steve???? Well it arrived today, so :crossed: (actually, it's very pretty - would look much better framing a card (stop me someone!!!! :blink: )

Oh grief - I can still remember the tingle :blink: :cry:

Funny how we have different terms for things...as a Londoner, a doo doo is something quite different......when I started reading your comment Gazzer I almost choked :o especially as you'd put it to your lips.... :em:

Hey - maybe slugs and snails don't get mini shocks, maybe they think it's a doo doo and it make their lips go funny too.....

I'll report back after experiment finished...
