Hi there ,

I have a little box room which I laughingly call my studio!!

I bought shelving and a 4` desk with drawers, I have a cupboard and a table with drawers , also a set of drawers and several plastic boxes and an ottoman, (blanket box), also wall shelves !! I get as many pictures on the walls as poss and have a couple of portfolio cases with them in !!

In my guest room I have stuff in 2 wardrobes including my sewing machine, material , needles and cottons etc!!

Hope this helps!

Happy sorting,

Jenx

Hi Cshell

Since crafting just over a year ago, my back room/studio has filled up so much :groan

I have piles of stuff everywhere, and to be quite honest I used to try and keep it organised but quickly gave up, craft rooms are supposed to be messy and if I need anything I know that it will be in the back room somewhere

The only thing I do like to keep organised are my wax blocks and paintbrushes :thumbup;

Well, Jenny has a box room too, bulging at the seams with boxes, shelves, a desk, drawers, a bookcase and table and chair :r She's also expanding into another, larger ex-bedroom

For myself, I have a corner of our living room ;) I don't take up much space :r :r :r

I am definitely not the person to answer this, my craft stuff is on shelves on the landing, in cupboards in the dining room and has now started creeping into the living room :red:
My son moved out last year and I was overjoyed that I had a craft room but he moved back after 2 months and ruined my plans :r :r :r

I love organizing, almost as much as I love crafting, it's a sickness really.
Actually I'm a reformed unorganized pack rat. Then I married a military man and had a house fire. Between having to sort out all of my stuff that wasn't burned up and having to move constantly sometimes with as little as three weeks notice, I've learned to be very organized.
I find when people (I mean my darling friends and sisters who knowing my sickness take advantage of me and make me come look at their messy houses) try to organize sometimes they over organize and they can't realistically keep it up.
It's best to sort things simply
(these are Virginia's rules of organization..WARNING not for the faint of heart!!)

Papers, instead of sorting into, card stock, wc paper, pastel paper, sketch paper, instead use three main categories
~new unused papers
~usable scraps (those that can be used for punches or for paint palettes or test strips) but if you can't use it, toss it.
~reference papers (ideas you've jotted down, magazine articles, or instructions, things, you've printed off the Internet etc)

Paints, pastels, crayons etc.
I sort these into the main categories (oil, wc, acrylic, pastel, pencils etc) but keep all the tools (brushes, erasers rulers etc) together.
NOTE: if you have little people guys around since paints especially oils and watercolours, contain chemicals, it's best to keep them out of reach, I collect pretty tins and keep them on shelves where the little darlings can't get to them. For kid's crafts, only use kid-friendly non toxic products and clean brushes (in case they chew the ends) which should be kept separately.

Material stuff
Keep wools, material, embroidery yarns together, I keep those in my laundry room with my sewing machine and a basket full of the tools (needles hoops etc). I also keep all my crochet hooks and knitting needles in a tin made from an old coffee tin.

Etc's (Beads, wires, glue stickers and everything else we use).
This I keep a three drawer limit,
the first drawer has all the sticky stuff, tapes, glues, stickers, anything that sticks to anything else.
the second drawer has tools, embossing stuff, punches, scissors, razors, etc. Some of these tools are interchangeable and can be used for the painting or material crafts, if I need a tool though, it's always in one of the places.
the third is a free for all ribbons, beads, whatever takes my fancy

Now here's the hard part...

Are you ready for it....

It's coming,...

Take a seat because it's shocking...

THROW IT OUT!
Limit your space...if you are getting too much stuff, sort it out and if you've had it for a long time without using it...THROW IT OUT!! (or give it away).
Realistically, ribbons fade, papers fade, glue and stickers lose their tackiness, wires tarnish, paints dry up, things get dusty musty fusty..if you're not going to use it there is always someone who may need it or can't afford to buy it.
And unless your tetanus shots are up to date, get rid of dull scissors or razors or broken rulers, protractors, dull needles, etc.

I'll get off my soapbox, now..
Just remember keep it simple, keep it clean, keep it organized...or invite me over, I'll fix it. :D

 Should be there when M comes home from the war, I'm not going to tell you guys when, I'm just going to show up and insist on sleeping in your spare rooms while you try to explain to your neighbours who the crazy American/Canadian sorting out all of your stuff is.
Feel free to print it out, just remember to file it in the "reference" section. :r :r

When you've finished organising Sharon can you call over to mine please Virginia

No really I am quite organised, I used to be a cleanaholic for many years, as soon as anyone got up I plumped the cushions, I was washing pots before even finishing my dinner, I would have a cloth in my hand first thing in the morning, and I was always quite stressed out - What Happened I hear you all say...................

:cb:

Blow the cleaning, it will still be there tomorrow, I dont live in a dump but I dont live in a show home now either ;)

I have folders that hold patterns for my glass plates that I paint in my filing drawer. My paints are all stored in a plastic container that has drawers. Then I use an old dish drainer that holds things such as tape, glue sticks, glue gun, etc and the thingy that holds the knives, forks and spoons holds my brushes, paint pens, markers, pencils, scissors and other things such as that.

All my material that I sew is stored in a large plastic storage container and in a cedar chest. All my ribbon, lace and bags of buttons are put into a picnic basket. All my elastic is in a huge box. All my thread is kept in my grandmothers sewing basket that was handed down to me when she passed away years ago.

I have tons of clear storage bags that has rub on transfers, carbon paper, construction paper, craft books and other things like that inside of those. And marked on the outside of the plastic bag what it contains that way I don't have to go thru the bag to see what is inside.

All this stuff is piled into a corner of my computer/craft room. Sort of an eye sore to look at but storage is limited in my home to hide anything. :groan :r :r :r
