Cheryl, that sounds like an excellent cause for CB to get behind :thumbup; I'm sure we can track down a group that would be delighted to receive them :) Or if anybody already has contacts in that area, you can PM me with the details and we'll arrange it :)

Any other volunteers? :) Just sign up here :thumbup;

:ta: for the reminder Cheryl - our last drive was a big success :huggy:

I will have a go, what sort of items are you making? is it just clothes or do they want baby toys too? it would give me an excuse to make some baby stuff! although I had better warn hubs and my sisters or they will think Im not telling them something! :r :faint:

there is a really cute pattern, its for a comforter, a smallish blankie with a teddy face, for newborns to have....I wonder if that would be suitable?

Great idea, remember that if you are knitting for prem babies it has to be a certain size blankets to fit the cots? ( something like 16" or 20"? but don't take my word for it?) I am sure there will be a link to prem babies knitting somewhere on the web?

I would like to join in, but don't want to commit myself just yet as i am waiting to se if something pans out at the moment on the job front?
Cheers Poppy

How about the local maternity hospitals, would they be interested?

Yes all local SCBU's would be most pleased to get something knit for them. I think there are guidelines for what kind of wool and patterns to knit?( plain, no holey patterns etc).

I also saw that Hospices were in need of bed shawls to put round patients shoulders while sat up in bed? Maybe there is some info on the web for them, or ask at your loacal Hospice?

One of my passions at the moment is the Memory Box appeal. This is a charity run by the Decorative Painitng Society and involves painting card/papermache box's with beautiful images to give to parents of still born or neo natal death of a baby/babies where they can place cherrished memories of their little Angel.

At present my decorative painting isn't upto doing the box's to the standard rquired but i am trying to raise funds ,just by selling my own things, for purchasing the boxes for me to paint for the project here in the UK.

No, neither had i until i started talking to Decorative Painters?
Nothing like this was around when i lost my baby in '71. A memory box would have been something to teasure. I think that is why i think so much of the idea now? :thumbup;

We'll say closing date is 31st October :thumbup; That should give everybody plenty of time to make some items :) I'd say just clothing, as that can be the hardest thing to find! :rolleyes: When Emma had Chloe, she was actually premmie sized, though full-term (both Emma and Paul are small folk) and clothing her was a total nightmare :eek:

Do remember that if you have friends/family who knit/crochet/sew, then they are very welcome to join in too! :thumbup; Any premmie sized clothing, in yarn or sewn from soft, safe fabrics! If you'd like to participate but can't/don't do sewing or yarncrafts, then pieces obtained elsewhere are acceptable too, perhaps with a token made by yourself (a card or tag, maybe - possibly for the parent(s)) :)

Years ago, Poppy, I belonged to an online post-polio group. Obviously, that mostly involved people of age and losses were inevitable. I suggested way back then that they make memory boxes for the families to treasure. I was astonished to hear that they had never heard the idea before. The beauty of them is that they can be so personal, and you can make them at any time! A memory box started when a child is born, or when a couple marry, can accumulate so many memories :thumbup; In fact, I'd say it's like scrapbooking - don't wait until it's too late, make them while the subject(s) can enjoy them too, if you can :huggy:

Jake has a memory box Steve, Rachel was ahead of me on that one. She has had one herself for years, i remember her collecting newspaper frontpages about Diana in '97.
I agree they can be started anytime.
