this is a female smooth newt, we call herTiny
( you know the old joke about tiny the newt I am sure) ;)

I agree great photos. We seem to have lost most of our fish. No bodies, just disappeared. We have never seen a heron around, but there has been a crow quite often and the usual cats. I have seen 3 today out of 8, but they are staying low down and instead of coming when I put my hand in, (they would take food from my hand!) they stay perfectly still od swim away. They used to fight for the food, but I waited about 10 minutes and they remained still. :ermm:

hi jo145, sounds to me as though you had better get a net over your pond, or that crow/cat/heron will be back!!!! :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :fish:

I put a load of frogspawn in our pond, and somthing ate all of it, how tad has escaped is a bit of a miracle :eek:

I did read in one book that newts eat tadpoles, but Tad is so big that I think Tiny newt would struggle to eat him/her. ;)

I hate having a net over and it's difficult with the iris and bull rushes as they grow so tall, but may be we'll have to do it again.
