hello folks,
this is one of my new makes that I made at the very end of last term,
it was a 10 min fiddle with some clay that I did at the end of a class and I rather liked it so I got it fired and I glazed it.
somtimes its the quick little "fiddles" that turn out great, if I had sat dowm to make a pinch pot look like a flower, I doubt I would have got the shape right ;)

What size it is Magz? I ike the decoration on it. Have you thought about making your own beads from clay and glass? they'd look brilliant. Your college tutor should have a clay skewer for the beads to be fired on?

hi poppy, its about the size of a pudding bowl. :thumbup;

I have thought about making beads, one of my collegues at collage wanted to, but the collage wouldnt pay for the copper wire and firing stand to make them on, so untill one gets brought in by someone we wont be able to make them :weep:

Ah that's a shame Magz. Ther is another way round it though. I seem to remeber someone, (it may have been me?) doing some shaped ones and firing them lose, i don't know what i would have done them in, maybe an unglazed bisque dish?? BUT when they are fired and assuming they come out ok and not stick to the dish, you could glue bead cups or silver wire wraps onto them.
Please do not do this with the pudding basin sized one you already have though? :r :r :r
It would be a good idea to see the principal or the Programme Area Leader and ask for a bead making equipment, they are not so expensive and colleges do try to provide equipment to the effect of courses and lesson progression? ( tell your tutor you are doing this and not going behind his back). Sometimes the PAL ( program area leader) will lsten more to students than Tutors?
Maybe get those who are interested in beads, or not, to state this on their next evaluation for for the course? Student pester power goes a long way? :thumbup;
Our PAL bought a £900 kiln for the pottery labs and wouldn't buy me a Keepsake board to enhance my courses?
Good Luck.

hi poppy, it would be easy to make beads and biscuit fire them, its the glazing that you need the wire for, otherwze they would stick to what ever they were sitting on :$

you say pester power goes a long way........................ not at our collage :uhoh:

I have to say that last term our tutor complained to the collage and adult ed course managers about scaffold poles for a poly tunnel bieng stored in out pottery class room. During the week it is used by the collage to teach agricultural skills, and only two hours a week for pottery.

We were told that if we complained toooo loudly the collage would move the class to a normal room and we would'nt have acsess to the kiln, clay or tools we need, and would have to take every thing, wheels included with us to the new room and take it all back again at the end of the class!!!!!! :uhoh:

:thumbup; It looks lovely. A good little fiddle.
It would be lovely if you could make beads, sounds a bit of a mean college, and not very nice to the Pottery class. :'(
