 I'll be your admin here and I hope you will have a nice stay. Some things about myself, well, my real name is Ben, I like mathematics, (quantum)mechanics, relativity and of course encryptions. I also do a lot of puzzling and I decrypt encryptions once in a while. :)

 Glad to be the first member. Allways nice. I'm StrangeQuark, a dutch physics student, also with interest in cryptologie (who isn't) but not really an expert. I also like science and all things with movies and theatre.

 I'm Joe -- I like math, science (mainly chemistry and physics), computers, football, and cryptology. I'm not quite sure what the allure of cryptology is, I just think it's fascinating that what I'm sending someone is (almost) completly safe during transmission.

By the way, are these huge image-sigs de rigeur? I find they take up a lot of vertical, making it harder to read stuff. Not complaining or anything - just pointing out that it's a bit l33t (which I consider a pejorative); it doesn't move the discussion along at all.

(But I loved the Jawa/Nazgul/whatever with the binary face.)

 Well, you are right antoon's sig is a little big verticaly, but mine isn't I think. If more people think this is an issue, I will remove it :)

 Hey I just joined, I'm a freind of Pulsarsl's and he asked me to register. I don't really know that much about encryption but I'm a fast learner (Pulsar would beg to differ but hes more of a bad teacher). Ahh, I can't say I'm skilled with anaything as fancy as quantum mechanics but I've yet to find something in math or science that I can't at least grasp. Ummm, if theres anything specific anyone wants to know about me just ask.



PS. I apologize for any spelling/grammar mistakes I have made or ever will make (and I will make many). Thoughts move faster than the fingers, or something like that.

 If you think quantum physics won't be any use, I suggest you read up on quantum cryptography. :-)

It's quite a complex field, and I have no desire to expose my ignorance of QC here by attempting to explain it in simple terms, but it shouldn't be too hard to find some potted summaries on the Web if you care enough.

Quantum cryptanalysis is much scarier than quantum cryptography. You get a quantum computer, and get it to run one decrypt per universe, in a huge number of universes. Again, I really don't understand how you get the correct decrypt back into this universe, but some people are taking this terribly seriously - or at least, they will do so if quantum computers ever get past the "what are the prime factors of 15?" stage.

 Hi, my name is Zirkon and am like most ppl here a beginner in crypto. I study mathematics and in my spare time am constantly on the look for challenges by solving difficult riddles, chasing very beautiful girls, writing stories, programming, learning all kinds of stuff, internet security-related things, and now of course my newest addition: crypto :).

Hope to learn a lot here, and have lots of fun while doing so ;)

 Howdy! I found this board thanks to a posting on sci.crypt. I'm more into classical cryptography than modern. I'm just not that good at advanced math. Is anyone else here a member of The American Cryptogram Association?
