This is an easy one. monoalphabetic substitution with normal word divisions. It's a famous quote. PZ RDM FPWB MF U JKUINPCA XDA UCX TUBY LPT FIDJFYIDMJ, LY OPEE CDK VPKY RDM. KLPJ PJ KLY FIPCWPFUE XPZZYIYCWY VYKOYYC U XDA UCX U TUC. -TUIB KOUPC |

Donald - I just spotted this one. Will you just trust me if I tell you that I've cracked it? Perhaps I can best prove it by saying that the plaintext does NOT contain the letters J, Q, X or Z. That way, I give a slight hint, without completely ruining the puzzle for everybody. After all, hints are hints, and complete spoilers are complete spoilers, and never the twain shall meet. It's a matter of principal. |

I trust you!, and yep, those are the right letters. Actually, I have a complete walkthrough of how to solve this one. I figure I'll post it in a few weeks as a lesson. |

In fact, I nearly replied with a walkthrough, but decided against it (as it would have been a spoiler). I have an idea, though. Why not post a (straight) monoalphabetic substitution cipher with a different key (that is, a different "mix" of the alphabet) to the last one? I will then crack it via a walkthrough. It wouldn't be a challenge (except, for a few minutes, for me), but a demonstration of how to crack mono ciphers. If you play nice (see below), I shouldn't take more than a minute or two to crack it. I think you'll find my methods somewhat diabolical. :-) For the first such demo, I'd want it to be based on a plaintext that is a meaningful (i.e. not weird) English message, with the ciphertext retaining spaces and punctuation, and - say - oh, I dunno, about as long as that one was. Perhaps a bit longer - maybe 300+ letters. The longer it is, the more likely I am to be able to show off one or two fiendish tricks. |

Done, new topic posted in "General", although Revelation may decide to move it back to Challanges. |

Okay. I just have to go for a - um, I have to see a byte about a bit, so to speak. And then I think I'll take some exercise. And THEN I'll go play crypto. See you shortly. |
