looks to me like the english translation (at least) of La Disparition set itself the further limit of using only words with an A in them.

I didn't notice that! No wonder it sounds so terrible!

As this is the book area - I would like to inform you that i have finished the code book by Simon Singh and shall soon be purchasing 'The codebreakers' by David Kahn as it has been both reccomended by you guys and Simon Singh. Although - i would probably have bought it without simon singh having said and following all of your advice.

Congratulations! Did you like it?

Expect Kahn to be very different. It's HUGE and a lot deeper. Simon Singh wrote for the masses, Kahn is writing for people who are already interested in the history of Cryptography. So it's a lot slower than "The Code Book", but simply chok full of incredible information and stories from cover to cover.

I did like it - A good book to get people interested in Ciphers and cryptography - it has a lot of the history of cryptography. The part about Mary Queen of Scots made me laugh though as I did that last year in History and all the things I was told then were disproved

I even understood the quantum theory at the end (note the signature). Which both me and my dad where impressed at.

In my opinion - I think that the NSA has already made a quantum computer - but can't or won't release the information about it - as they know that they will have to work twice as hard to decrypt everybody's messages once we all switch to something like quantum criptography.

Even if they haven't yet I don't think that they will release the knowledge to the rest of the world until they have worked out how to decipher quantum ciphers.
