Ok folks. I just modified the original post for what I hope is the last time. <sigh>
EVERY SINGLE PAGE of the journal now has hints. The hints usually tell you at least the method used so that you can get past any sticking points.
You can get through many of them without the hints, but you should really use some of the hints for 9+. Otherwise these challanges may be too difficult to decipher. Also, the first hint on page 12 clears up some ambiguities that could make decyption very difficult where it should have been simple.

Thank you everyone for your patience, and I hope other people will manage to make it through this monstrosity. Please don't hesitate to ask for help in how to attack a particular page. For some of the really complicated ones, a team effort may be usefull. If one person explains how they attacked it and got stuck, and another person explains their approach, combining efforts might get both past the difficulties and through the other side.

Alternate wording for a hint for #7:
This transposition is what the ACA calls a Complete Columnar transposition.

Cracked #7 :D Thanks for the hint rot13. What took me so long? I thought it was an incomplete columnar cipher, so the key length was messed up! :P

Additional hints:
the key length is greater than four

Page #8 cracked

Great! Now, on page 9 and 11, I HIGHLY recommend that you look at at least the first hint on both. It just describes the encryption method in detail. Without that you will have a MUCH harder time cracking your way in.
