Note, I AM in off-topic! :) I thought this might interest some of the Dan Brown fans:

"The Davinci Code" is being sued for plagerisim.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051027/od_nm/davinci_court_dc

A little background. I had a friend who was SERIOUSLY into conspiracy theory kind of stuff. He loaned me "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" way back when it was first published. And as soon as I heard what the central concept of "The Davinici Code" was, I said, "Well, THAT'S not a new idea". Of course, HBHG was researching previous material as well, so they weren't exactly original either. It's a VERY old heresy.

Pardon me for my cynicism, But I'm quite certain Richard Leigh and Michael Baigent have sat at a table with Dan Brown and laughed out loud about this coming law suit.

You see, "Holy Blood Holy Grail" had probably dropped completely off the charts as far as sales went, then Dan Brown wrote his best seller, and suddenly people are interested again. The HBHG authors couldn't have been anything but THRILLED with the renewed interest. Dan Brown was making converts for them, and a signifigant percentage of those converts were dropping money to buy their old book.

Ah, but now "The Davinici Code" has been out for quite a while, the new is worn off. BUT, the movie is about to come out, and a bit of publicity right now would certainly be a nice thing. So, how do you get the news to pay attention to you again? righto! LAWSUIT.

However they settle it, everyone wins. More attention for Dan Brown, more attention for HBHG, and more attention for the movie.

And just in case you don't buy my own little conspiracy theory, Note in this line in the news story: (Remember, they aren't actually suing Dan Brown, they are suing Random House, his publisher.)

"news article"

Ironically, a special hardback, illustrated version of their book, called Holy Blood, Holy Grail has just been reissued by none other than Random House.

They are suing their own publisher? Heh! I notice that at Amazon HBHG in paperback is at sales rank of #344. Not bad at ALL. They are laughing all the way to the bank.

This is quite funny - interesting spin on things, it's just a win win situation that makes everyone famous again.
Everything is possible,
The impossible just takes longer
