It is no longer available from the website mentioned in Cryptologia because geoff has changed his website. So how can your acquaintance have downloaded it? And why isn't my antivirus finding the infection? Are you telling me that the supplier of my antivirus software is suspect also? Do you want me to tell him and send him your email address as the accuser? |

I have no reasons to distrust the report of my acquaintance (any more (or less) than you concerning your trusts) that he did download the exe-file but that his security software gave alarm. As to the security software, it could surely err, as I said. But that particular piece of software (i.e. the version at the time of the said download) is certainly unusual in the sense that it is suspicious for that security software.

Geoff Sullivan's program is available on his site, and as far as virus alerts and whatever go - IE 11 reports "The publisher of this program couldn't be verified." Tested under several different scanners - nothing. Comes up clean. My experience anyway. |

@nullsole: Could you do a favour of checking novice's "current" claim that that RS44 software is no longer available?

I find your accusations, based on hearsay from some un-named third party and in direct contradiction to my statement to you that my antivirus software reports that there is no threat, to be thoroughly distasteful and I have no interest in prolonging this discussion. I am glad to have confirmation from nullsole that what you have been telling me is false. Edited by novice, Jan 25 2014, 08:42 PM.

Thank you for this confirmation. Could you let me have the web address where you found the program? My only reference is http://www.blueangel.demon.co.uk/crypto from the Cryptologia article. |

While the sensitivities (positive negate error rate) of different security software certainly differ, my experience learned in this thread is anyway that I should be even more cautious than before with downloading of software on the Internet. |

@ Mok Kong Shen The fact is that two people have independently reported the same findings which are in direct contradiction to your assertion, based on an apparent acquaintance's word that you have not verified and who you have refused to name. Let readers of this Forum note. Edited by novice, Jan 25 2014, 08:47 PM.

Very interesting IMHO. Your earlier post (no. 2) gave the address http://www.cryptoden.com/index.php/downloads, which is different from your current "only" reference. |

Don't be a fool Mok Kong Shen. I know full well I quoted the crypto den website to you. What I was referring to was that I did not have Geoff Sullivan's current website. |

So you meant earlier the software is no longer available at the site of cryptoden, or what? Edited by mok-kong shen, Jan 25 2014, 08:55 PM.

What have you answered?? I didn't know the other address till a few minutes ago (from your post) and I told my acquaintance the address (cryptoden) you gave earlier in post no.2. If you distrusted (post no.31) that my acquaintance had actually downloaded the software, saying that he couldn't have done the download because the software is no longer available, then "logically" and "contextually" you were referring certrainly to the address of cryptoden, right???
