As someone who recently took up a programming language

As a matter of interest, what kind of programs are you writing?

@jdege: Since you apparently have much interest and experience in the issue of testing, I like to pass to you a literature reference I just happened to find concerning a recent development which might interest you but which I couldn't evaluate myself due to my poor knowledge: http://www.st.cs.uni-saarland.de/testing/xmlmate/XMLMATE.pdf

There is evidently much more to software testing than Unit Testing.

With my investment hat on I have come across an interesting German software Company that specialises in functional and non-functional testing, named SQS software. Some idea of their skills are here. Their annual turnover is > US$250 million, and growing at ~10%pa, so this is not a minor operation. Customers are big -- eg BP, JPMorgan, Reuters -- so the software they use, and which evidently is not 100%, will not be baby stuff.

That software testing has no silver bullet I had already stressed. There are enthusiasts for diverse methods, all methods have their merits and negative points, just like everything else in life.
