My boss recently watched The Imitation Game and decided to put a challenge together for the office. He's certainly not experienced in this, but it's proven to be too difficult for me to solve. I was hoping somebody on this forum might have some tips or pointers. This is what my boss has sent out. 4 15 3 $ 26 3 1 15 6 4 54 15 8 2 2 14 15 22 25 17 17 4 25 22 16 15 Any thoughts? |

I've figured out most of it, but I'm still a little stuck... T E N $ U N D E R T H E _ _ _ _ E _ _ _ _ T _ _ _ E I don't know how the numbers correspond to the letters. I just saw "under the" and worked in the blanks. Now I'm stuck again. |

I had gotten that far, but wondered about the following: 4 54 16 = T H E --> H = 54 (all values between 1 - 26, is this an error?) 8 2 2 14 15 22 25 17 17 = F O O S E B A L L --> L = 17 4 25 22 16 15 = T A B L E --> L = 16 'L' has two values? Is this a homophonic substitution? I actually arrived at _OOS_EBALL but found no pattern word matching. I see now that "FOOSBALL" is spelled without the 'E". Thanks for the cute challenge! |
