I apologize for not being at the meeting. I came last week and didn't see a single one of you. Nothing personal to anyone, but I'm beginning to be uncertain that when we say something is going to happen that it really is. BTW, whatever happened to our end of season bash? Did I miss that? We need to be consistent in whatever we decide to do. If we're going to have meetings at a certain time and place then we need to make that happens. If someone announces a ride and then say "details to follow online", then they should follow through. This is especially important if we want to member participation from individuals who live more than 30 minutes away from downtown Cumberland. I dislike it whenever someone complains without suggesting a possible solution, so here is mine for whatever it is worth. I think it would be in our best interests to adopt a regular meeting schedule and stick to it rain or shine. Perhaps something like the following would be practical for our needs: May-Sept: peak riding months, meet weekly Apr and Oct: marginal weather months, meet twice a month, say week 1 and 3 Nov-Mar: once a month just for the hell of it On another note, if the club membership is going to be open to all persons of legal motorcycle endorsement ages then we should choose a place where all our members can legally attend, and, at a place likely to meet with approval by the parents of members who are minors (god I hate that term). We can always take care of business at one location and then transition into party mode afterwards at another location of our choosing. I am new to the organization and not quite sure how things have been set up in the past. Simplicity of structure is always preferable but lack of clear structure will lead nowhere. In considering the future of CMC a basic question seems to me appropriate at this point. Do we simply want to remain a loose band of friends who get together occasionally for rides and social interaction? If so then we pay for things out of our own pockets individually as we incur those expenses and pass the hat around for voluntary contributions whenever we need money to do something collectively. But if we intend to develop CMC into a legitimate club, then we need to investigate the legal requirements and any possible liabilities that may be opened up when members are required to pay dues. Has anyone looked into this yet? Should we be electing officers? If we fail to do this then CMC has no credibility as a legitimate club, and no way to attract and hold a due-paying membership. In closing I want to make clear that my observations are certainly not an attack on anyone personally, but rather a concerned look at a fledgling organization which I believe has the potential to turn into something valuable and worthwhile for many, especially those new to this incredibly exciting world of sportbiking. I have learned a great deal from my interactions with this group and it has left me wanting even more. The experience has taken me to the sensible limits of street riding (for me) and prepared me to step up to track riding. I'm taking the ART Basic with Team Promotion at Summit Point next Monday. Wish me luck. See you at the next meeting (hopefully). Thanks for a great summer guys! |

Great points Slider! But remember guys just cause the weathers getting cold doesnt mean we shouldnt do a thing over the winter....we are gonna meet up plenty of times! At least we should! Btw, i like the "minor" idea cause it makes it easier for me and plus i know another possible member that i play football with hes got his liscence and a bike! Steven Iser, but he might not join til the spring! I also know another guy that just moved in from Texas he goes to AC BUT heres the kicker...he used to road race over in texas with an amature plate!! I think he had an R1 or R6 idk ill find out but i think that would be a GREAT addition...plus im trying to get some tips from him about me starting racing!

Listen guys, i have to agree with Mike on this one, our future as a club depends on us as members bieng reliable and accountable for this club, if we say we are going to do something it is VERY IMPORTANT that we do it!!! I am guilty of not coming to some of the meetings and i am sorry, but if all we are going to do is sit around among friends and drink then i don't see that as an important club meeting, i mean that is cool but no reason to call it a meeting, just going to a bar and hangin out... Now don't get me wrong here fellas cause i am not hatin, i love to hang out and talk bikes, but have alot of shit going on and can't always be there, i like Sliders idea about only having the meeting like twice a month or even ONE SOLID TIME a month when everyone could be there, maybe we should take a poll or something from all of the members to see what might work best for them. THEN if we still want to keep the bike night thing going on Thursdays, thats cool, if ya have the time show up if not thats ok too. I would really like to see this club become something, but honestly, the only reason i joined was to meet people who love sportbikes as much as i do and ride, not to bitch and fuss about how unorganized we are, so if we stay this way it's ok too. but I am so sick and tired of going to a poker run to see a bunch of overpriced, oil leakin harleys and harley wannabees pokin along for the cause and no organized sportbike clubs or events in sight. So lets get it together guys Now, on the other hand i just want to say Thanks to the guys who gave this club life, made this forum possible, and continue to help this club grow, U GUYS ROCK!!! If i can help out , LET ME KNOW..................Brian |

Fellas...let me first say thanks for the input! and there are alot of great ideas in there. In my own defense guys i have done everything possible to get you guys to the meetings...and man if you guys would be there i could share the last three memos i took the time to put together...i understand that we cant always get to the meetings , but just hit the forum to see whats up? I am really trying to move us to the next level with some trackdays, Superbikes show, road racer x tour, new sponsors... all things in the memos, however this club is never going to be political, taxes, govt legal, whatever you want to call it! dont know of any that operate like that? and i dont want this one to be that way! |

Anytime things turn political it looses the fun factor. The responsibilities of elected officers are usually thankless jobs. Personally I'd rather not see things go that route if at all possible. No one likes to be more spontaneous than I do. But that is only possible within a clearly defined structure. Structure enables freedom. Lack of structure results in chaos. Ask any school teacher. Steve, you've been incredible to set all this up and shoulder all this responsibility and I, for one am very appreciative of what you do. But are you honestly willing to accept all that for the long haul? I am certainly NOT suggesting we involve ourselves in something that we have to follow government regulations, taxes, etc. However, by virture of doing certain things a formal relationship may be created whether or not it is intended. We live in a litiguous society and we have to make sure we don't open ourselves up any such problems. Sometimes its as simple as saying we "contribute voluntarily" rather than stating that we "pay dues". Nothing more nothing less. I am not familiar with the state laws of Maryland, but I do know anytime an organization revolves around participation in a risk sport the organization needs very much to be aware of potential liability issues. This is especially true when you have members under the age of 18. Am I making sense here. It may be just matter of wording things more carefully, or it may be something more. I do not know. But maybe some of you do. Is there a lawyer in the house? |

Mike i feel you and i love this club and wanted it soooo much i just kinda took off and did things, lets sit down and think of how we want to structure for the next season . im open to everything this is a learning process for us all and i want everyone to love this club as much as i do! i know i wanted to get with you last week and talk some track day stuff and never really happened, sorry, and we will get together i got some gp tapes for ya! let me know what your schedule is this week or maybe after the meeting! as far as the liability our inhouse attorneyMR. NICHOLS, assures me that the waiver on the memberships that each member signs frees us of any liabilty, but as we are getting younger members we will have to reassure that! again man thanx for the feedback, its going to make the club more succesful ! |
