A young woman forced into a life of war paced restlessly in the snow, the weather eerily calm in the valley that they had found themselves in. Them being Jake, Ellie, Brooke, and Ruel. It had been over twelve hours of continuous walking and shivering before they arrived at this secluded spot. The valley itself was over a quarter mile wide and at least a mile long, each side surrounded by peaks so tall that their tops disappeared in the roaring storm above them. There was a breeze, of course - after being here almost a week Ruel had decided that Glacies had never known a calm. She was surprised humans were able to live as long as they had.

But there was something strange about this valley. It was as if it had not been a subzero wasteland its entire existence. In places the ground was actually bare, frozen plants that were surrounded by ice making each footstep 'crack'. Along the way Ruel had even seen a flower that was about to bloom, the faint rosy pink of the petals barely visible beneath the ice.

The teenager was anxious. Not because they were out of food and they still had a days trek back, but because of something the small group had spotted at the end of the mile-long valley: blue lights. They had all seen those lights before so Ruel assumed they were all nervous to some extent. Maybe not scared like she felt, but nervous for sure.

"They've been waiting for us the entire time," Ruel shouted over the snowless wind, every muscle in her body shivering with cold and lack of food. She had to keep strong! No matter what lay ahead, she had to lead the others safely to the other side of this valley and hopefully find that damn antidote to save Jumper.

She had to prove she was strong to Karl.

Hands clenching around the snow-caked gloves that hid the story-telling scars, the teen forced back the emotions she felt and stopped dead in her tracks, turning to the three others. She snapped an arm up, pointing at the glowing rifts in the distance that dumped Ferinus into the world, and cleared her throat. "No matter what is there waiting for us, we are here for Jumper, understand? We've survived this torturous journey up this cursed mountain and we're going to survive whatever they're going to throw at us. They've had rest, yes, but they're just tools. We are here to save a life, not give them our own!"

Ruel let her arm drop to her side, elbows striking the Glock on her hip. It was useless and that very thought made her stomach twist into knots, but somehow she--they would come out on top with what little they had. "I've been in situations like this, so I understand if you're scared. It is okay to be scared, but don't let it cripple you because that is what they want to happen. We cannot give them what they want."

A nervous sigh rushed out of the teen's lungs, filling the air with a liquid smoke that the wind grabbed and whisked away without a second thought.

"I know some of us don't get along," Ruel admitted, looking up at Ellie, "but we're a team and if we don't work together, we'll be destroyed. Now stay strong and let's overcome this challenge." With that, she turned and pressed on towards the glowing rift, each step making that knot in her middle grow larger and larger.

----------------------

"Ah, they're right on time~!" Tori shouted, grinning wildly as she stared at the far end of the valley. The woman was sitting on a certain Cylon's knee (he followed orders so well!), a rift at her back that spewed Ferinus like a broken faucet, the snarling, hideous beasts swarming the immediate area.

Behind her and to the left stood Fredrick, pick in hand and ready for action, though he really didn't seem to be enjoying the cold very much. That was okay, though, because it meant he'd fight a little harder so he could get back to the cozy Island of Rifts as soon as possible! Giving those under you a motive was always so helpful when you had to send them into a battle that could end their life.

And finally, to her right and under one arm was a small figure wrapped in a pure white fur coat so thick that there was no way the child under it could have possibly been cold. Tori squeezed Elias' shoulders tightly, smiling down at him. He didn't need any encouragement whatsoever; just the thought of playtime made him excited. She wondered if he'd even notice the cold once he had that hatchet in his hand. Oh, this was going to be exciting.

"This is going to be so exciting, don't you think, Khyron?" Tori asked, standing and looking back at the Cylon. "At least I hope it will be exciting. After the last fight you were in, you'll really have to work hard to prove you have what it takes to be my guardian. At the moment though, I'm not too sure if you have it in you."

The woman walked forward, moving her hand to the small of the child's back and leading him on, the Ferinus parting moments before there would be a collision and filling in the areas the two were previously occupying. After she was a couple paces ahead of the others, she crouched down and turned the boy to face her, looking as excited as she possibly could."

"You know, I brought you with me because that lady you told me all about is going to be here soon. I just figured you'd like to play with her again. Don't mind Khyron's orders, though, because I leave her all up to you." Tori patted Elias lightly on the head. "Now be a good boy and be patient just a little longer."

---------------------

~Somewhere in the middle of the valley~

A young girl peered out the window, face shoved against the glass leaving those "nose marks" that mothers always hate to clean off. Brown eyes rolled first to the left, then the right, before quickly going left again. "Momma! Momma! Look!"

A haggard looking woman finished adjusting the boards against the door she was hoping the strange creatures wouldn't break through, and then joined her child, wrapping a thin blanket around her shoulders and looking out the window. What she saw made her eyes grow wide and her breath to catch in her throat. "Dear god..." she whispered.

~On the other side of the village~

All the men in the small village were huddled in one group, their ages ranging from sixteen to sixty. They all stared dumbfounded at the row of Ferinus that they saw approaching, each wondering how in the world they would fend them all off with the pitchforks, kitchen knives, and the few guns they had. They struggled enough just to keep the women and children fed ever since the planet started growing colder and the animals started dying off, but now they had to fight in a war that they were less than prepared to be in.

Then, a boy no older than twelve ran up, chest heaving with effort as he slid to a stop in front of the elderly leader. "Grandpa! I see some people coming! They look like they might be here to help!"

The wrinkly old man smiled warmly despite the weather and stooped down next to the boy. "Well done! How many are there?" he asked excitedly.

However, at this question the boy's face fell. "I saw only four. But they can still help, right?" he asked, turning to look up at his grandfather with a face of innocence and ignorance.

The smile on the old man turned sad and he gripped his weapon tighter. "Yes, they can, m'boy. Go out there and greet them."

Exited to help, the child ran off but a wave of worry spread like wildfire through the villagers that called themselves the army.

Fredrick stood unusually silent in the cold barren town. He was going to have to fight soon, he knew it would eventually come down to this. What happened in that last place was only the beginning of this new life he led.

“We’re doing this to make a better world” he told himself. “One where everyone will be happy”

“Oh? And at what cost?” The inner self inquired.

He put this thought out of his mind. “Best not to think of those things” It didn’t help the quivering in his hands though.

More than anything he just wished he could go home. But that was impossible now wasn’t it? Arco told him himself.

"Ah, they're right on time~!" Tori yelled to them.

At this Fredrick’s chest seized up, his breath shortened, and he felt very dizzy. “Well I guess this is it gents… Anyone wanna turn back now?” he said half jokingly and half more serious than he had ever been in his life.

Brooke walked a few paces behind Ruel. Unlike the others, she wasn't shivering or tired. In fact, even with the snow, she was still getting enough sun to be running on full power. The brunette felt pretty good (physically, that is). She couldn't keep her mind off of Jumper, the image of the girl on the ground wouldn't leave her head. Still, as they were walking, she'd developed a shred of confidence. They'd made it this far, why should what was happening now stop them?

The blue lights, in stark contrast against the white backdrop, stole most of that confidence away.

Actually, more like the sight of a village in front of those glaring lights. A village full of people who looked just a little beyond scared. Bye bye, confidence. Hello, fear, worry, and all those other lovely emotions.

Ruel spoke then. Her words were encouraging, but Brooke got the feeling that she, and the other two as well, were experiencing feelings along the same lines as hers. Still, they couldn't do much but keep going at that point. 'We can do this. We've done this before. We're used to it. We've got to save Jumper." Brooke repeated to herself as she walked forward through the snow. The village wasn't far away now, and she could see a figure running towards them.

"Who...?" She began, then focused her vision on the running silhouette. She blinked. "Is that...that's just a kid!" Okay, there was some more motivation right there. There were children here, and the ferinus were just going to kill them if they couldn't be stopped. That wasn't going to happen.

Elloise rubbed at her large ears, trying to keep them warm. She wished desperately that she had gotten a hat from the town earlier. Not only would it keep her ears insulated, but it would also down out the screeching of the wind. She could feel the migraine building.

Listening as best she could to Ruel's speech, she nodded. Now was not the time to bring up any petty arguments. If the cat said she wasn't scared, she'd be lying. In truth, she was frightened out of her wits. It took everything she had not to take off running.

If this was a few weeks ago, back when she was home, she would have. However...after the first battle in Tokyo....she knew that running wouldn't do any good. Besides, Jumper and the townspeople needed them. If there was anything that upset the stubborn cat girl....it was failing those depending on her. Human or otherwise.

"Who...? Is that...that's just a kid!" Ellie's ears perked. A child on the battlefield?! She looked closely where Brooke was pointing. There was indeed a child...it appeared to be a young boy.

"Mother preserve us..." The feline breathed. She glanced at Ruel, her hand on her hidden weapon. "It might be a trick! That might be a Ferinus in disguise!" She shouted, raising her voice above the gale. "I say if he makes any sudden moves, we take him down!"

The blonde-haired youth heard Ruel’s brief speech and agreed…to an extent. Jake knew that they had to work together to win this, but he feared what his blessing would do to the others if he stayed too close to them. Max had been silent throughout the trip, and this left Jake feeling uneasy. Not that he was scared…he wasn’t really that kind of afraid. He knew he’d survive…it was a fact of life. He could not be killed. But he was scared of what would become of the others…

Ruel was a survivor as well, and battle hardened to boot. She knew what she was doing more then the rest of them, and he trusted her. Brooke. She was the strongest person he had ever seen next to Karl, and combined with her artificial body she could hold her own with even the heaviest fighters, and could even heal those around her. Then came Ellie…he had grown fond of her during their adventures in Tokyo. Her unique physiology and ability to channel electricity would help her survive, though her crafty and strong willed nature was the best weapon she had in his opinion.

All of his friends were capable fighters…and he…he had his training and Max…yet to survive the coming storm he wasn’t sure it was enough. He’d never been in this big of a fight…

His thoughts were interrupted when a form outlined itself against the snow. Jake squinted as the boy approached, but didn’t think he was dangerous. “It’s just a kid!” He shouted uncertainly. Not wanting the girls to come into contact with him if he was dangerous, Jake jogged forward ahead of the others to meet the child.

“What are you doing out here?! Where are the others?!” He shouted looking around the boy to see if he could spot anyone else.

Playtime~!

Elias snuggled warmly in his big soft coat, his thoughts straying across the valley in front of them like a bird in flight, circling and noting the places of interest. He was excited as it had been awhile since his last big battle. The boy was ready to play, his hatchet tucked away beneath his coat, his injuries all but healed from his playtime with the stone man. The best part was that after that fight he was finally warmed up for some serious play.

Wasn’t he? He felt weird…this was like his other play sessions, the ones from before…only these people didn’t look like they knew how to play right. The fingers of his right hand absent-mindedly closed then opened. He...he wasn’t…But that was okay right~?! It was funtime and uncle Arco and Auntie Tori wanted him to play with these people. It was fun right~?

…Right? The girl he had met…she hadn’t liked his fun…as he reached to touch the black cloth wrapped around his right arm, he wondered where she was now.

Elias would soon get his answer. Tori gave his shoulders a squeeze. He looked up and grinned cheerfully at her. She was really nice to him, and had even given him this fluffy coat~

"You know, I brought you with me because that lady you told me all about is going to be here soon. I just figured you'd like to play with her again. Don't mind Khyron's orders, though, because I leave her all up to you. Now be a good boy and be patient just a little longer."

She said patting him on the head. He grinned happily. She was here! Yay! He could say hi and they could talk and maybe even play! All uncertainty left him with these thoughts replaced by ones of giddy excitement.

“Awww…Alright Auntie Tori~ Can I play with them alllll~” He chirped slowly grinning as he asked and did his best to wait…he didn’t like this part very much, but it was worth it! Think of all those nice people who wanted to play with him~

--
The wind howled past an armored figure, his metal skin indifferent to the cold. Khyron stood traditionally quiet as Tori stood up, his eye moving back and forth without pause.

"This is going to be so exciting, don't you think, Khyron?"

“If You Say So, Lady Tori…” He replied. Watching her walk through the crowd of Ferinus with the Elias small form at her side.

"At least I hope it will be exciting. After the last fight you were in, you'll really have to work hard to prove you have what it takes to be my guardian. At the moment though, I'm not too sure if you have it in you."

The Cylon’s hand twitched ever so slightly. He had underestimated his opponents last time. Let his curiosity get the better of him…not this time. He would PROVE he was worthy to be her Guardian. No matter what it cost him… Feelings of shame rattled around inside his mind before he could snag and get rid of them. He was a centurion…made to fight, to be a machine of destruction. Yet…his left arm had been acting…strange since his fight with Arco’s guests.

It was disconcerting…the readings he got…but they were probably just anomalies. He stepped forward and nodded to Tori trying to focus on the fight ahead.

“By Your Command…” he replied slowly turning to the Ferinus swarm. He raised his arm, and looked around at the terrifying force at his command. A field of claws, teeth and hauntingly grinning visages. They would do their job well. Different kinds all quite unnerving to look at, including four large new ones. His own creations. The vaguely mechanical creatures were taller then he was and their broad shoulders were covered in armored bone and metal. A soft blue light glowed from a slit in the helmet that was their heads.

With one last look, he dropped his arm, and the horde surged forward like a wave across the snow, the Cylon following shortly behind. One veteran Ferinus wasn’t sure…but when the Centurion had said that last reply, it had sounded slightly less…mechanical…

The young boy ran up to the four that were walking in the middle of the valley, recognizing them from their previous trip to the hot spring and not stopping even when they braced themselves for a fight. "I'm so glad you're here!" the boy shouted, "we desperately need your help!" His jaw quivered, trying to stay strong and doing a rather good job at it. He grabbed Ruel's arm and pulled him for the village in the distance. "Please! There's a huge swarm of Ferinus coming and there aren't enough of us to hold them off! It's worse than any other time!"

Ruel blinked as the boy dragged her along. "Okay, okay, that's why we came in the first place," she muttered, doing her best to keep up with the child. "You mean, they've already started attacking?"

The boy looked back at the girl as he ran along, please to see that she was keeping up. "They weren't when I started coming to get you, but--"

Suddenly a horn blew and a distant roar rose up from the village.

Stopping mid-stride, Ruel nearly ran into the boy as he sunk to his knees. "It's started..." he whispered as the war cry suddenly escalated to one of panic and death.

"Oh my god," Ruel gasped, shocked and horrified as the familiar sounds ripped the control she had over her fear to pieces. "We have to go! NOW!" With that, the girl took off with newfound strength, pulling the knives from her belt and flipping them open, cherishing the feel of the steel in her hands.

--------------------------

Wings folded forward, shielding the boy next to her from the sudden rush of Ferinus, the ground shaking below them as Khyron's creations stormed past. Her own were in their, of course, creatures with long legs and arms so long that their fingers scratched against the snow as they ran. The scrawny, naked things has stubs jutting from their backs that looked like a pair of mutilated wings.

"You can start by playing with the villagers, but after that I want you to spend a little quality time with that girl. Her name is Ruel, by the way. She's your friend so I'm pretty sure she's looking forward to seeing you again! She might even want to play with you a little bit, so you better get that hatchet ready."

Tori smiled down at the boy, but it wasn't a kind smile, it was more like the smile you'd give when fostering a child only for the money it'd bring you in the future: something greedy. "Now, go ahead and have a good time!" she insisted, pulling the coat from Elias' shoulders and urging him forward.

Afterwords, she looked back at the Cylon, frowning as he acknowledged her commands. Something was different about the machine - something she wasn't sure she liked but really had no idea as to why.

But, it wasn't her concern. She was supposed to enjoy this battle, as much as someone with no emotions could enjoy anything, all the while watching Khyron win. But he wouldn't take the glory, oh no, he was here so she wouldn't get distracted with her job.

Brooke stole a glance at the town up ahead, before turning to the boy and placing a hand on his shoulder. "Look," She said, being careful to keep her voice calm. "This could be really dangerous, so you stay back here and keep yourself hidden, all right? We'll take care of the trouble and make sure no one gets hurt." She gave the boy a smile and a gentle nudge in the opposite direction of the village.

There came a crunching noise as one of the Ferinus in the lead of the coming army leaped for her. Brooke caught it by its extended arms, holding the thing up as it snarled in her face for a moment, before tossing the creature into an iced over bank of snow several yards away. Wincing at the sickening crunch from the impact, the brunette turned to the little boy, who still stood next to her. Now he was trembling. "Go!" She shouted, prompting him to nod dazedly and run off in the other direction.

Brooke made a note of where the child ran. Definitely not letting any Ferinus run off in that direction. She looked to Ellie, Ruel and Jake, all readying themselves for the fight, as a number of Ferinus larger than she cared to count raced towards them. Nothing they hadn't done before, she reminded herself again. First thing was first, protecting the people in the village. She didn't know if it was at all possible to save every person there, but that wouldn't stop her from trying.

She took off running towards the group of villagers.

Ellie's muscles tensed at the sound of the horn. Seeing that Brooke was sending the boy off to hide, she started running toward the village. She easily caught up to Ruel and ran alongside her. "I'm going ahead. Try to keep up." Any other time, this would have been said as a challenge, a chance to show off. However this time, it was deadly serious.

The people fighting needed them and she wouldn't be held back to wait for her companions. With a single nod back to the others, the cat took off, reaching her full speed in moments. Despite how likely it was she would slip in the snow or on the ice, she refused to slow down. 'I'm sick of always having to be rescued...of being useless. No more playing around!'

It wasn't long until she reached the small settlement. Unsurprisingly, the fight was obviously one-sided. The sheer number of Ferinus was staggering. Immediately, the petite girl dove into the fray, spinning her staff to gather what little electricity she could.

She growled as she whacked a large dog-like Ferinus over the head. "They better hurry up....or else this will end up being a slaughter rather then a battle..."

The snow was soon painted red and black. The village defenses had held for only a moment before the makeshift barricades were smashed aside by Khyron’s Goliaths, punching a hole the rest of the Ferinus horde flooded through like water. The village defenders line broke shortly after that, though as a testament to how tough this world’s remaining survivors were, they managed to split into several large groups with which to try and hold what ground they could.

Khyron stood at the edge of town watching as the ferinus swarmed about, searching vandalously through houses and shops for the villagers but finding only empty homes or groups of defenders in their place. He was agitated. He had failed her once…he would not do so again. And while personally the Centurion would rather leave these humans to die of their own accord and find something more interesting to do, this would help distract him from the unsettling sensations he felt about growing that would not give him rest.

Tori…she was an angel right? Then why did she take orders from the human priest? Arco’s power was vast, but she was still an angel after all. And then there was this strange sensation he had began feeling. The stored energy he had been collecting was having unintended side effects. At the very least it had been making him feel really weird.

He turned his attention back to the carnage at hand, watching as a group of Ferinus was shot and stabbed to death by a small squad of humans, only for them to be mauled by some of Tori’s grotesque rift creatures. It was almost unsportsmanlike, so one sided was the battle, but her word was his work. And whether it made sense to him or not he would follow her command.

A blur zipped past him and down into the village. Shortly followed by the haunting sound of giggling mixed with screams…

His gaze shifted to a few individuals on the other side of town one moving faster then any normal human should, and she have a tail? She was soon followed by another group of individuals who were also running toward the town. Were these supposed to be reinforcements? No matter. What could four people do against a swarm? He thought with sarcastic, almost bitter amusement. But then…Cylons knew just how dangerous a small group of cornered humans could be.

A chrome plated arm raised and gestured to one of his goliaths and a pack of Ferinus beside him. The pack growled accordingly and thundered off to deal with this new threat.
They would be victorious today, of that he was certain, but the knowledge of this did little to ease his unrest.
--
“GAAAHaahhhh!” A man screamed as his arm was lopped off. He stared at the stump where his limb had once been and back at the smiling child before him. This was insane. What kind of enemy were they dealing with that they could make a kid do this? His questions would never be answered as his life was quickly snuffed out.

“Tag~!” Elias giggled, leaping forward to dispatch yet another defender with his hatchet. It was a rather chilly out without his fuzzy coat, but having spent some time with his “playmates” he had warmed up pretty quick. He was so excided! Ruel was here and he’d get to see her again! They were going to have so much fun! He was so entranced by his happiness that he had completely forgotten how bad at playing these people were.

Suddenly, something in the debris caught his eye…a doll. He stopped and slowly reached down to pick it up, turning it in his hand. It was a rag doll, hand made with obvious stitch lines and button eyes, and it was missing an arm, the white stuffing sticking a little out one side. His smile softened as he held it, his fingers wrapped gingerly around its patchwork middle. “Hello, Dolly.” He whispered softly, brushing some dirt from its face. It had been tossed aside, left abandoned by its owners, its stitched smile looking almost forlorn and lonely to his eyes. Elias fingers stroked the doll’s face tenderly, as a mother would a child, a gentle smile in place of his usual giddy one.

BAM! A bullet streaked past, grazing his arm and knocking the doll from his grip and onto the floor. The third member of a three man team stared in wide-eyed horror as the boy slowly turned to look up at him with a grin. That was the last site he would ever see...
--
The snow made for an interesting contrast with Jake’s tan skin against the white backdrop of the winter wonderland. He stumbled for a moment in the white fluff, falling to his knees before getting up and continuing his sprint toward what he could only fear was a massacre, and judging by the expression on Ruel’s face she feared the same. To make matters worse, Ellie had sprinted off ahead of him and dove into the fray.

He was worried for all of them, but the image of her cornered by a pack of Ferinus about to be torn apart and cut off from the others was heart breaking. He shook his head to get rid of these thoughts and pumped his legs faster. There was no way he was letting anyone else get hurt like Jumper. Not because of him…

As he reached town a pack of the rift-creatures seemed to be waiting for him, one leaping for the boy only to misjudge the distance and run headlong into part of a broken cart next to him and plop down into the snow. Jake slowly drew his bowie knife, his eyes narrowing.

“Alright Max. Let’s do this.”

When Ellie surged past, Ruel pushed herself harder. Already the Ferinus were attacking in hordes, quickly wiping out the few defenses the town had. Reaching the town, Ruel quickly went to work tearing at the rift beasts. She jumped on top of one of them, riding it like a horse to distract it from the soldier it was attacking. The plan worked and the creature reared upwards, crying aloud as a knife was plunged into its spine, writhing and whining until at last it stood still.

"Are you okay?" Ruel asked, jumping off the quivering Ferinus and looking over at the man she rescued. Her face fell, however, as she watched him clutch as his ripped-open throat, blood streaming to the ground. He wouldn't live, of course, and all that energy was wasted.

No, it wasn't wasted. That Ferinus could've killed a dozen more people if I hadn't stopped it. Every kill helps this situation. She couldn't let herself slow down over one dead body. She'd seen bodies before, and even though it wasn't a pretty sight each time, there were far more important things to do than worry about the dead.

Renewing her grip on the knives, she rushed forward, stabbing and ripping apart Ferinus without care. Cries of pain rose louder, but the teenager forced herself to push forward, attacking any Ferinus that got close to her or any others. Finally, she reached the center of town, where she slid to a stop, eyes moving skyward. "Uh, guys, I'm gonna need your help here," Ruel stammered to whoever was within range, looking up at the large Ferinus that stomped towards her (one created by Khyron, but at the time she didn't know).

She waited a few seconds, and when no one came, decided she couldn't wait any longer. The Plated Goliath smashed through a building, scattering debris into the air and smashing shouting soldiers under his shield-like arm guards. The blue symbol on the creature's face swirled madly as its focus rested on the darker soldier before him.

Ruel swallowed, knowing all too well that her knives would do little against, but really had no choice in the matter. There were swords scattered on the ground, but what good did it do her to switch to something she had never handled in her entire life? Pushing back the fear, the teen rushed forward to meet her enemy.

A deep rumble came from the creature's chest as it lumbered forward, the structures on its arms manipulating and twisting until it's lower body was protected from weapons. Hands slowly clenched and unclenched, watching as Ruel ran towards it.

When Ruel reached the creature, she sliced at it's legs, ducking below swinging fists and stabbing at the armor. Unfortunately, the blade just slid off, hardly creating a scratch in the seamless armor. "I'm only human, why do they have to be so damn hard to kill!" she growled as her eyes quickly scanned the beast for a weakness.

That scan, however, was just enough of a distraction for the Plated Goliath to attack. The Ferinus reached down and grabbed the teenager by the torso and bringing her to his face. It let out a rumbling, hissing growl and then threw the girl over his shoulder without much though before proceeding further into the city.

Ruel was airborne for only a second or two before she managed to find a place to land. That place, however, was a window and she crashed through it, the glass cutting at her arms and back. "My god, that wasn't fun," she shuddered, shaking glass from her coat and looking out the window from which she came...

...Just in time to see a trio of wolf Ferinus charging at the house and leaping towards the broken window.

"Aw hell," Ruel cringed, gripping her knives tighter.

Elloise had never been fond of the Ferinus she fought on a daily basis. This hatred only increased when she was slammed from behind by what she thought was a truck. She curled as best she could and hit the ground rolling. Turning around, the cat paled. In front of her was some kind of mechanical monstrosity. A Plated Goliath.

"Great....Well, I beat one giant robot already....Let's see if I can do it again!" With that, she picked herself up and darted forward. It brought down its heavy arm in an attempt to crush her, but she swerved and used her momentum to get behind it. Once there, she spun her baton as quickly as possible. "Nighty-night!!"

She grinned and jabbed the creature, sending all the gathered electricity coursing through it. The Ferinus screamed and turned quicker than she anticipated, back-handing her into a building. She hit it hard, leaving a large dent and several cracks in the wood. The cat coughed several times, tasting the copper tang of blood. "Okay....note to self...big doesn't always mean slow."

She pushed herself up, leaning on her weapon for support. Small spots dotted her vision and her eyes had trouble focusing. She shook her head and glared. No way was she letting herself get taken down that easily. "You're good...but I'm better!" She ran at it again, despite her body's protests.

She ran around the creature, doing her best to avoid any more hits. The brunette knew she wouldn't get far without a plan..."Though some help wouldn't hurt..." She muttered ducking to avoid another blow. She took a second to look around. Jake and Ruel were no where to be seen.

The distraction cost her when the Plated Goliath managed to catch her shoulder, then tossed her, sending her into the ground. She swore and began to regret not staying with the others. A few more hits like that and she'd be finished...

The musician, a little disheartened by no one answering him, but also glad because he didn’t really want an answer, saw the horde of Ferinus charging at the four miniscule targets in the distance and decided he should try to throw his hat in the ring.

He raised his hand in the air to summon as many as this new power to allow him. Unfortunately this number turned out to be two. He glanced down at the Ferinus he summoned to see what sort of creatures they would be.

The left one was a scrawny looking gray whelp with bug eyes and rather elongated arms and jittered around as if terrified by every single snowflake that fell. Also it was Humanoid looking but still walked on 4 ligaments like monkeys do. The right one on the other hand was a brutish animal that was pure white and had muscular arms. This one seemed rather aggressive and tried to tackle every single snowflake that fell. Eventually it got tired of this and turned its sights toward Fredrick, It reared back and lunged toward him

Taken aback by the attack Fredrick fell down and kicked the beast off him. After picking himself up quickly he looked upon his creation with disgust and drew his guitar to the ready. Lefty ran around in circles because of the excitement, looking for a place to hide.
With a thunderous strum Fredrick tried to slice the right one into pieces. To his dismay, this is not what happened. After beginning to play the right one started to move as if it were drunk and then quickly regained balance and its Ferinus Symbol turned very shiny and began to glow blue, also its muscles seemed to grow and pulsate.

With the newfound power the right one charged again with an impressive speed. Fredrick was ready this time however and sidestepped the Ferinus. “Did I do that?” the musician stared in disbelief. And sure enough the moment he stopped playing the Fieriness’ s symbols reverted to their original shade of dull blue.

“Hmm, perhaps this could be of some use” the musician mused. “Alright! Listen up you two!” curiously the right stopped its rampage and seemed to listen, the left one on the other hand ignored him and kept blindly running into buildings causing property damage so good job? “Me and you don’t seem get along but I am your master and I order you to go charge at those things. Got it?” Fredrick stated while pointing in the direction of the heroes.

Almost instantly the right one took off in the direction that he pointed. Next Fredrick got in position to try this new skill on the veritable armada in front of him, and started playing.

Khyron cocked his head sideways when he watched the Ferinus suddenly increase in focus. It was astonishing actually. Where before they had been a barely held together segmented swarm, now they were actually working together in a direct and almost controlled manner. He looked from Fredrick to the rift creatures and back. He nodded approvingly.

“Your Assistance Is Most Appreciated.” He stated. He was honestly impressed and grateful. It was a nice change of pace having the humans actual do something in a fight, not like when the humanoid Cylons who would send the Centurions on near suicide missions.

Blood spattered onto Ruel’s cheek as the leader of the trio disappeared from view, a moment later with a blur and a yell another went down as Jake literally tackled it. The third wasted no time in trying to come to it’s partner’s aid, but much to it’s great dismay it missed and embedded it’s claws in the window sill Ruel had just used to break her fall. With a crack, Jake snapped his opponents neck and slowly got to his feet, shallow claw marks on his chest and arms evidence that his tussle on the ground had not been one sided.

“You okay?” He asked after turning to Ruel and retrieving his thrown knife. It had been reckless, but Jake didn’t care anymore. He wouldn’t let any of his friends die, even if it killed him, not because of his curse.

The blonde was about to walk over and offer her a hand when the form of Ellie hit the ground not ten feet from him.

“Ellie!!” He yelled, scrambling to her side, the concern in his voice and face were hard to miss. His eyes looked her over frantically trying to see how bad she was hurt. A low rumble forced him to divide his attention from his close friend. Jake slowly turned to see the armored body of a Goliath starring down at him, the soft blue glow coming from the slit in it’s faceplate turning a harsh shade.

He stepped in between the monstrous Ferinus and the girl beside him. “Get behind me…” He said softly. “…and if you and Ruel can distract him…Max and I can kill him...”

THE SEME OF DE

When the Ferinus fell below her, Ruel breathed a sigh of relief, wiping the splatter of black from her cheek. "Thanks a lot," she mumbled, but not before Jake dashed out the door to help Ellie. She followed close behind, taking the door outside and joining the two others outside... only to come face to face with another large Ferinus.

"Okay, I'll distract it for you, but I really hope that Brooke finds us here - we could really use her help with this fight." Without another word, the teenager dashed to the left, flipping her knives around so she could slash at the Plated Goliath while running past.

The scale-like armor shifted randomly, the creature unable to predict where the next attack would be. Ruel ran around to the back, ducking below a swing of it's fists and stabbing her knife into its ankle. She ripped the blade out, a strange mixture of flesh and metal woven together to create a tendon snapping in half.

With a groan, the Ferinus fell forward, catching itself with one hulking fist but (to the groups misfortune) recovering. A piece of the plating broke off from the rest, twisting to the new wound and forming another length of tendon inside, more armor covering the new wound.

"Well, I guess if it runs out of armor then we can hit a vital spot?" Ruel shouted over the cries of the battle. "Try and get all the electricity you can from it's body, Ellie, and then zap it! Jake, you do your Max thing and we'll have this beast killed in no time."

-----------------------

And up above the battle, if one were to look up, they'd notice a rainbow-colored dragon bearing two sets of wings. Each pair beat on its own, the colors changing crazily. Also, if one looked close enough, they could see a figure riding the dragon's back, their hands gripping the dragon's long, knotty horns. The beast angled lazily to the left, allowing Tori to get a good view of the battle that raged on below.

The two momentarily disappeared into a cloud but quickly reappeared but this time with frost covering their skin. "It seems Khyron is doing a decent job, don't you think?" the winged woman asked the dragon, which in reply simply flapped lazily.

From above, the battle was painfully one-sided. The Ferinus' numbers ranged in the thousands and the soldiers maybe a hundred. This time she would not fail! Even though Khyron was responsible for winning, she was responsible for that Cylon.

But for now it seemed quite obvious who was going to win this battle. The Plated Goliaths were smashing houses and crushing people. She hated to admit it, but Tori was actually impressed with the job he'd done at creating them. The armor certainly proved useful and she was almost certain that they'd finish off the pipsqueaks that had showed up a few minutes before - two of which she recognized.

Ah, it was simply a matter of time.

Ellie growled as she unsteadily stood back up, glaring at the reason she had been knocked down in the first place. "I'm fine and I don't need any of your concern." In the back of her mind, she wondered why she had snapped at Jake, despite being slightly touched by the worry. Shaking her head, she reminded herself that now was not the time for that.

She nodded at Ruel's plan and spun her baton, dashing to the side of the Ferinus that was opposite the older girl. Now that she was a bit closer, the cat was able to gather a lot more energy, however it seemed a bit different from her regular electricity. Brushing it off, she focused on avoiding hits and keeping herself in motion.

Finally, an opening revealed itself. "Over here, ugly!!" She dug her staff into an exposed area about where she guessed its ribs would be. The Plated Goliath shrieked and turned itself to swat at her, missing by barely an inch. Some of its armor twisted and moved, covering the injury and attempted to heal some of the internal damage.

Ellie grinned. That's what she liked about her powers. Despite not seeming very strong, enough small shocks could wreak havoc on the body, causing blood vessels to rupture and scarring organs. Again, though, her distraction prevented her from noticing their opponent had turned its complete attention to her until its fist was moments away from hitting her.

'Why do I never learn?' She wondered as braced for impact, unable to slow down in time to make an effective dodge.
