"A perfect plot point." That's how Karl had answered when asked how he knew about the large temple on the mountain overlooking the valley that could contain the cure to Jumper's illness. Apparently the color man had deemed it fit to provide the group with "a sporting chance." Of course it didn't take a genius to guess that the quest Bumaga and Hyoji had embarked on would never be so simple. Bumaga looked to his side at the gray-haired man, who had kept a stern look on his face the entire journey. He remembered how Hyoji had nearly jumped at the chance to find Jumper's cure. Bumaga guessed he must feel responsible for what happened to her, but was too polite to call the icy stoic out on the matter. The mission was too important for that sort of thing anyway. While the rest of the group stayed behind, protecting Jumper and distracting the "contracted," they were counting on the two to save the girl they had grown so fond of. Bumaga had volunteered to come along because he felt that he would be of more use here than fighting. "This must be it." Bumaga said as the two-man team reached the entrance to the temple. Considering the time it had took to reach the large structure, it wasn't a moment too soon. If the way the sun worked on this world was anything like it did on Earth, it had been relatively early in the morning when they had first embarked up the large mountain. Upon finally reaching their destination, the sun was all but ready to begin it's descent, and having already moved behind the peak of the stone giant they were climbing, Bumaga and Hyoji were cloaked in permanent shade. If they had taken any longer getting here, they would no doubt have had to contend with the sub-zero temperatures the night brought on the climb down. It certainly didn't help that at regular intervals the wind had picked up and Bumaga had to be saved by Hyojij, lest he be blown away. Wow... Bumaga thought to himself as they approached the stone behemoth. The temple was not so much on the mountain as in it, having been carved from the side of the rocky surface, made apparent by the blackened-gray stone that it was made of. Most of the temple was hidden, buried deep inside the peak, but it seemed to continue up the mountain, as shown by several unnatural-looking ledges and balconies that jutted out of the higher stone crags. Bumaga swore he could see the shape of something moving on one of them, but it was too obscured by the darkness and wind for him to be sure. The only clearly visible part of the temple was the entrance, but it certainly gave plenty of hints of the splendor that lurked inside. The stone was covered with intricate markings, large swirls and crescents that showed how finely-tuned the blackened rock was. On the sides were large stone statues of huge creatures, standing on their hind-legs with their heads reared back in a ferocious roar. This, combined with two large diamonds that studded the middle of the stone surface, gave the entire entrance way the appearance that of a giant face, with the large open archway acting as the mouth. As the two moved closer however, it was obvious that the temple had not been inhabited for many years, and time combined with the elements had been very cruel. Scattered pieces of the face were chipped or fallen off, some of the statues were smashed or broken off entirely, and the snow had stained much the black rock into a pale gray tone. While once upon a time the entrance would have looked like a face, looking at it up close now, it was more than anything else, a skull. Bumaga paused for a moment, taking in the amazing work some group of people had done before becoming the nightmare it was today. He was snapped out of it as Hyoji walked past him, and remembered how critical their mission was. I will NOT be useless Bumaga promised as they moved ever closer. I WILL save Jumper, for everyone's sake, no matter what. and nothing will stop me. They continued their march into the archway, the mouth swallowing them whole as they entered the darkness. |

Hyoji didn’t take more than a few seconds to register the layout of the temple’s entrance in his mind. He looked while wiping some snow off his coat and pulling the hood down, and he couldn’t avoid thinking how that temple, once a lively and frequented place (probably) and now an abandoned death trap, reminded him of his hometown of Grandia (or rather, “Fallen” Grandia). It was a depressing sight if there ever was one, but like most things, it angered Hyoji rather than saddening him. He had his reason to be there, and he couldn’t let those useless thoughts distract him. “We’ll sightsee later. Come on, now.” The faux-old man said to Bumaga as he passed by the paper-boy, who was much more mesmerized by the place than him. He still had a stern expression on his face as he looked over his shoulder at him, but managed to sound calm and gentle, even if slightly. The truth was that Hyoji had wanted to come alone on this “journey”, if you could call that (He heard someone saying “fetch quest” back in the cabin, but couldn’t remember who). It was his fault Jumper was in the situation she was right now, so it was his responsibility to repair it. However, Bumaga had insisted in coming along, saying he could, no, he would be useful. Despite not being human, Hyoji couldn’t see Bumaga as something other than a kid, so he tried to tell him it was way too dangerous and he should stay with Jumper in the cabin. Well, seeing as now there was a person made of paper following him, the result of the argument was rather obvious. “Listen here, kid. Stay behind me, and tell if ya see something unusual, ‘k? This place gives me the creeps, so we better get what we came here for and hit the road…” The one eyed man said to Bumaga while advancing steadily, not bothering to look back since his eyes were already busy scanning the surroundings. Besides the ammoless gunslinger and the paper-man, the whole temple seemed desert. “I’m surprised no one came to “greet” us yet… It’s not like Baleno would just put the serum in a pedestal in the end of the hall and call it a day.” |

"And here comes the dessert! Oh, and they sent that grumpy old human, I see. Someday I'll just kill him and call it good," a certain Xenomorph announced to her awaiting companions. The company wasn't all that great, just that boring human named Hart that frequently came back from "side missions" smelling of other humans - females, to be exact. But still, in this environment, any help would be, Wraith hated to say it, helpful. The Alien clung to the mountain side as effortlessly as a fly on glass, pheromone vision undeterred by the snow flying through the air. She focused on Hart, who was inside the temple and away from the harsh weather. "They only sent two? You'd think they'd send more than that to get this cure they're so hard-pressed to get. Ugh, I hate the cold." Wraith released the mountain and fell several stories to a jutting balcony, legs easily absorbing the shock of the landing. She slithered inside, feeling semi-at home with the close quarters of the temple as she used the walls as a floor, and rounded several corners before stopping next to Hart. "Can you believe it? Here you hold the only remaining antidote and they send two warriors, not that that Hyoji human is very strong since I've beat him once before." Of course, Wraith had been given her own antidote, but at the soonest possible instant, she smashed it into hundreds of pieces. She would not help that freak. But smashing that vial was probably the only reason she was sent to his cold hell - he knew she needed warm places to be most effective! Yet here she was, limbs shivering to try and create some heat. |

Hart stood alone in the relative darkness of the temple. Fog wisped from his mouth with every breath, even within the comparative warmth of the building, and his coat was pulled tight around him. The white-haired man was leaning against one of the walls, humming and tapping his fingers rhythmically against the stone. He stopped when Wraith slithered out of the darkness. The thing just didn't have an appreciation for music. "Can you believe it? Here you hold the only remaining antidote and they send two warriors, not that that Hyoji human is very strong since I've beat him once before." The alien was scoffing at the two headed towards them, but there was an undertone of irritation in her voice. Hart didn't relate. What was a little cold and the annoyance that was Rainbow Brite against all the fun they were about to have? "Well, as superior as you are, there's only two of us here as well." He tittered, tilting his head towards Wraith and smiling sardonically. "And speaking of, if you've come in here to actually talk to me, then I'd imagine they're almost here. One of us should probably go and welcome them." He motioned towards one of the shadowy hallways, the one that lead towards the entrance. He did not, however, make any move to be the welcoming party. Violence was all well and good, but even with his coat, Hart couldn't say he was extremely fond of blizzards. He could wait for one of the two to stumble in. Maybe even both. Not that that was likely, what with the bloodthirsty creature standing beside him. |

Irisis hadn't meant to lag behind but the cold was really starting to get to him. He couldn't even feel his legs anymore as the moved upward towards where the other two had gone. He was upset, and it took all of his will not to cry out at being forgotten. Though he wasn't really mad at them, he faded into the background during while Karl told them where to go, conveniently not even saying the green haired boy's name. He wanted to help Jumper though, and seeing as only two people were going to the Temple he decided they would need most what little help he could offer. When Hyoji hadn't told him to go run off like he had told Bumaga, he thought it was okay for him to go along too, and continued following them. It was silent and no one talked during their journey and Irisis's eyes were directed to his feet, which might have caused him to fall behind. After staying at the same pace for so long Irisis looked up, only to see he was alone. All he could see was the white mountain and the imprints of Hyoji's boots. He looked up at the gray shade of sky and could see the light slowly starting to leave. He started running, the guys couldn't gotten too far ahead of him, right? Finally what seemed like forever he saw Hyoji's and Bumaga's silhouettes, pushing himself harder he made it to the Temple just as the sun had began to set. His breath came in and out, but he wasn't able to form any words. At least he wasn't cold now. |

Bumaga turned around at the sound of heavy panting, and to his surprise saw the green haired boy struggling to catch up. "Irisis! If you wanted to come with us, you should have said so. We have to hurry before it gets dark." It was prehaps a poor choice of words, as the entrance led into a long hallway than was growing darker with every step. Finally when the group could no longer see in front of their faces, they saw a faint red light...that began turning a shade of green. Then again into purple. The hallway opened out into a large round room, lined with what originally must have been torchlights. However, instead of the torches covered in flame, each piece of wood was adorned with a small glass globe of ever swirling pigments. With these covering the walls, the entire room seemed to be a slowly spinning kaleidoscope of color. This had the color man's name written all over it. Quite literally it seemed, as on the roof were painted the large letters "ARCO WAS HERE," below which was a large smiley face, that appeared to be bleeding from the mouth. Once again, Bumaga couldn't help but be amazed at the strange sight, enhanced by the amazing craftmsanship of the temple. So enthralled was he that he didn't notice the glass orbs beginning to spin faster and faster, spikes growing out of their changing surface. Almost at once, the orbs and colors stopped spinning and the spikes that had emerged from them began shooting towards the group. Bumaga did not react fast enough and felt the shining needles hit his hand as he was jumping back. However, rather than piercing through as expected, the needles burst and splashed onto his skin as if they were made of liquid. However, Bumaga's relief quickly vanished as the glass wrapped around his arm and began crushing it. On instinct, Bumaga began folding his limb into itself to rob the substance of it's grip, and managed to slip his hand through, letting the stuff fall to the ground where it began writhing like a melted snake. "Don't let it touch you!" he yelled as the second wave of needles came flying. Think, think...that's it! "We have to destroy the glass balls!" Bumaga managed to squeeze out as he folded up into a paper fly, albeit one as big as a normal man's hand. Swiftly he began flying through the large spikes towards the nearest globe, landing on it and outfolding his stomach into a flat paper blade, puncturing the sphere and causing it to shatter into pieces. |

Hyoji knew Irisis was following Bumaga and him. He had the small hope and being left behind would change the boy’s mind and he would turn around and return to the cabin, but no. Both he and Bumaga were as stubborn as jackasses. The gray-man simply looked over his shoulder and told the same thing he had told Bumaga a few moments earlier: to stay close behind, and warn if he saw anything unusual. The gray-haired man had that ominous feeling that would make someone say the over used line of “It’s quite. Too quiet”, but he knew the source of that feeling. Somewhere in that temple, some of Baleno’s contracted were waiting for them. Of that, he was already aware… He just wasn’t expecting what the group found a little farther inside the temple. “What… The… Hell..?” He mouthed these words as soon as the group stepped inside the weird lighted room. The whole thing seemed like it was taken out of the depths of insanity, and by the unmistakable signature on the ceiling, that wasn’t far off the truth. But then, of course, the room couldn’t stay just nauseatingly gaudy, it had to become a freaking death trap as well. At the moment the glass spheres started to spin and weird, multi-colored needles start to rain upon the group, all Hyoji could think of was how much he wanted to kill Arco. It was that kind of hate that one didn’t deny, but reveled in. That sick bastard deserved to die for everything he had done and was yet to do. And Hyoji knew he would have his chance to personally put a bullet into that freak’s forehead if he got out of there alive. "Don't let it touch you!" He heard Bumaga shouting as he managed to free himself of one of those needles, that seemed to be made of some liquid. Seeing as neither Irisis nor himself were made of flexible paper, the faux-old man didn’t wait around to see if he could repeat Bumaga’s trick. “Tch..! I’ll cover you, Irisis!” He shouted to the green-haired boy who was behind him. When another wave of needles was shot at them, Hyoji didn’t hesitate in jumping in front of Irisis, sticking out both arms. Ice quickly formed from the sides of his arms, assuming the form of tall shields. The shields absorbed most of the attack, but the needles started to dissolve and cling to the shields, weighing them down and forcing the ice to break. “Dammit, we don’t have the time for this crap!” Hyoji shouted, his good eye acquiring a strong blue gleam. He quickly flung his arms in opposite direction, making the shields break at once and sending the weird liquid onto the floor. “You help Bumaga with the left side! I’ll take out the ones at the right!” He shouted again at Irisis, briefly looking back before dashing off to the right side of the room. His coat billowed behind him as he ran as fast as he could. Opening his arms slightly, Hyoji allowed the ice to form on them and, when he flung the appendages towards the nearest globes, two ice spikes darted towards their targets. Two globes shattered in unison with the impact of the spikes, but Hyoji couldn’t celebrate yet as more of those weird needles were shot at him. With an expression that pretty much stated “Holy crap!”, he jumped forwards, missing the needles by little, and rolling on the floor upon landing back to his feet. They really didn’t have time for that crap. |

The needles shot at the so-called 'heroes', but so far they had managed to avoid them mostly. The two humans were destroying orbs left and right, but in all honesty the Xenomorph that hung on the ceiling above the group didn't care at all. They were Arco's inventions, after all, and if what he did failed, the happier she was. Unfortunately, she couldn't help but notice how strangely one area of substance was acting. It seemed to cling to something mid-air, but then drop, as if there was something there blocking it. The orb that had struck the obstacle shattered, sending globules into the air seemingly on its own accord. Then again, everything Arco did was a little glitchy so perhaps it wasn't so strange after all. Wraith wanted to jump down there and surprise the two, but at the same time she didn't. She wanted Arco to fail, and if she had decided to drop, she would've only succeeded in helping him win and that certainly wouldn't do. But she could still have a little fun, couldn't she? The banana-shaped head rotated, vision focusing on Hyoji. "Guess who!" she snarled, speaking only to the ugly brute-of-a-human. "It seems you just can't get enough of me, can you?" |

Irisis simply nodded as Hyoji told him to alert him if he saw anything weird., and to stay close. His breath began to even out as they walked into the giant structure in the mountain. It was so quiet, the only sound was the sound of their boots on the hitting the ground. It made Irisis nervous, why hadn't anything happened yet? It wasn't something he could answer. As the entered the oddly lite room, so many different colors seemed to be there. Red, blue, green, purple, orange, yellow. There even more then that, indigo, lavender, pink, brown, peach, Irisis was amazed. Well, until there were needles flying out of them. "Don't let it touch you!" he heard Bumaga shout. Soon more needles were launched, and Hyoji stood in front of him, walls of ice towering above them. “Tch..! I’ll cover you, Irisis!” Hyoji shouted to the green haired young man. He summoned his scythe, more out of fear then instinct. It seemed to appear faster then normal, maybe it was because he was getting used to bringing the weapon to where he was? It was kind of odd, he'd never really thought he'd have to use such a weapon before. Some of the orbs were smashed, the liquid pouring out of it. Then Hyoji destroyed a orb then yelled to him. “You help Bumaga with the left side! I’ll take out the ones at the right!” Irisis noticed Bumaga flying around as a fly, having destroyed a few orbs already. The young man nodded then ran towards one of the closer orbs on the left side of the room. Swinging his scythe down, and quickly pulling it away from the liquid that came out of it. Hopefully they could destory most of them before the next siege of needles came at them. He didn't really want to be caught in the strange liquids grasp. The thought of not being able to help Jumper made him kind of sad. That's why he came up to the temple in the first place. He wanted to help Jumper get better, he couldn't bare to see her in so much pain. He wouldn't give up, and he wouldn't fall victim here. |

Bumaga brought a paper blade down to shatter the last glass orb, it's halves splashing to the ground. "Is everyone alright?" He asked, as the torches began lighting up with regular fire, bringing normal lighting to the room. The face on the roof began dripping down the side of the wall, until by all accounts the room looked more like what one would expect from an ancient lobby. Seeing no harm done, Bumaga turned toward the next hall. It had taken them far too long to destroy all the globes, and precious seconds were slipping away. "We're wasting time. Let's keep going." Bumaga started down the narrow corridor, and hearing his comrades' footsteps on the stone floor behind him, picked up the pace. They didn't have to go far, reaching the next room after a couple minutes. Unlike the last room, this one had a roof barely tall enough for the group to stand up straight. However, what the room lacked in height, in made up for in length. The room stretched on longer than the hallway they had just exited. At the far end of the room was a small staircase that spiraled upward to the next part of the building. However this was somewhat ignored by the fact the room was missing it's floor. Instead there was only a small ledge on each side of the room, with the rest occupied by a giant pit. If it weren't enough, every inch of the pit was occupied by dog-like ferinnus. No sooner did the group enter did dozens of pairs of eyes turn toward them, followed by an earful of snarls, roars, and swiping claws. "Another delay. We can't waste any more time." Bumaga backed up a few steps, then ran and jumped, folding mid-air into a large hummngbird, zipping and buzzing through the clawed swings and gnashing teeth of the jumping creatures, sprouting legs with flattened blade feet, plunging into the ones that got a little too close. Finally he landed on the other side, and folded back into his normal form, turning back to the others and waving. "Come on! Time's being wasted!" |

Dealing with the glass orbs was an easy enough job, but Hyoji wanted to do it as fast as he could. While he would usually keep a cool head (or at least try to) during dire situations such as this, the knowledge that Jumper was a few hours (or even less) from dissolving into raw energy and being absorbed by the Riftstream was making him act hasty and without much thinking. “Tch..! Break, already!” He yelled while making a small pillar of ice grow from below his feet. He was catapulted into the hair while bringing his right fist back while small ice spikes formed on his knuckles. Scowling, the gray haired man punched one of the glass orbs while it was about to shoot more needles, the liquid that composed them splashing down on the floor below. That was about the last orb on his side, so instead of worrying about the last one, Hyoji planned to run along with Bumaga and Irisis now that crossing the room became easier. However… "Guess who!" Hyoji’s expression changed to one of shock when he heard that terrifyingly familiar voice in his head. The man landed on his feet, rolling on the ground once he hit the floor before standing up once again. Worry was printed on his features as he looked around for any sign of life besides Irisis and Bumaga, to no avail. Dammit! Not here! Not now! The man roared in his mind, knowing that somewhere close, even thought he couldn’t see her, Wraith could see him. With bad memories from their last encounter, the current situation didn’t help much with his increasing stress. "Is everyone alright?" Hyoji snapped out of it just as Bumaga asked this question. Forcing himself to smile, he decided that it wasn’t necessary for all of them to go all the way into the temple together, as long as they all could get out of there together. “Y-yes, I’m fine. You two keep going, I’ll check if we’re not being followed or some crap like that! I’ll catch up later!” The man shouted from his side of the room, waving his right hand in a gesture of “get going already!”, sweat dripping down from his forehead as he hoped Wraith’s hatred for him would make her allow the other two to go unharmed. Fortunately, Irisis and Bumaga left the room with no problems whatsoever... As soon as he was alone, Hyoji’s smile fell. And the reason was because he wasn’t completely alone. “Well, that’s surprising... Didn’t think you’d let them go like that.” The faux-old man said aloud as he looked around for any traces of movement. The torches granted moderated lighting to the room, but it was still a big room and there were a lot of shadowed spots for Wraith to hide on. Slowly but surely, Hyoji started to back step towards the wall, until he felt his back touching the solid rock. As long as he stayed with his back to the wall, it was less 180° of space for her to attack him. But even this advantage didn’t make him any calmer. Time was running out... He didn’t have time to play Wraith’s games! |

"Is everyone alright?" Irisis heard Bumaga ask everyone. He turned around to face Bumaga. Hyoji answered first with, “Y-yes, I’m fine. You two keep going, I’ll check if we’re not being followed or some crap like that! I’ll catch up later!” "Y-eah," he nodded as he said the word, causing the word to break into two syllables. He wondered why Hyoji would want to stay behind, but he decided that it was better to keep going forward and followed after Bumaga into the hallway. The hallways was narrow, but Irisis had no problem fitting through. He noticed Bumaga didn't have any problems either. He saw Bumaga speed up so he went faster to keep up. As they reached the door and opened it Irisis was glad he didn't step any farther in. The room, longer then the hallway they were just in had no floor. The pit that was there was filled with horrifying dog like Fernius. Bumaga shouted "Another delay. We can't waste any more time." and transformed into a hummingbird and started flying across the gap. The loud barking and growling snapped Irisis to attention. Irisis looked around for a way across, he couldn't fly like Bumaga. So when he saw the small ledge that ran the length of the room and started for it, keeping his scythe close to his body he put a foot on the ledge scooted it farther, put his other foot there and slowly made his way across. He silently hoped that the Fernius wouldn't make a jump at him. He was so nervous and worried, he could slip and fall and that'd be the end of him for sure. There were so many of them, and they all looked like they wanted a piece of him. Hopefully he'd make it. |

Wraith had slipped out of the room when the orbs switched to torches, quickly lighting the once-dark corners of the ceiling. She could, however, peek out at the human that had stayed behind. He had reacted as she had expected to, preparing for a fight, but for once Wraith had a different idea. "I'm not going to attack you," the Alien huffed, watching the human's reactions carefully. When he didn't see her, she dropped to the floor, sidestepping a glob of needle poison that rolled around on the floor. She stood on all four limbs, trying not to look too threatening. "You see, I don't do the cold. My body does not like the cold, but that's not the reason I'm not going to kill you. "You see, the one you call Arco just so happens to be someone I hate more than you, and his little game isn't something I want him to win, so I guess you can call this a strange turn of events, yes? I mean, me allowing a human to live? It's so unlike me." Wraith's tail twitched as she grabbed hold of the rocky wall, claws catching each crevice. "He has more games, you know," the Xenomorph mentioned as she slipped back into her own passageway and started crawling back to where Hart stood waiting. "You better hurry up, your friends are getting ahead of you." |

Bumaga watched as Irisis started to shimmy across the small ledge in the wall, the Fernius growling and snapping at his heels. It wasn't long before some of them began climbing on top of each other to get their mouths on the piece of meat before them. Suddenly one of them jumped up toward the yound boy's head. "Look out!" Bumaga yelled, jumping back above the pit, folding into a falcon and zooming forward, plunging his razor sharp beak into the dog creature's back. It howled in pain as it's spine was penetrated, falling back into the pit as Bumaga wrenched himself free, jumping off the monster onto the wall, where he dug his flat fingers into the cracks of the wall. "Keep moving Irisis. That won't keep them busy for long." Bumaga said, as the other ferinus began feasting on their fallen comrade. |

When Wraith went off to greet their guests, Hart stayed behind and went back to his tapping on the walls, eventually progressing from humming to soft singing. "...I'll travel the sub-zero tundra, I'll break glaciers and frozen lakes, and that's just the tip of the iceberg..." He trailed off when he heard sounds from up ahead. Mostly a lot of very obnoxious shouting, from what he could hear. They probably had run into some of the traps their oh-so-grand leader had set up. The white-haired man grinned, stepping away from the wall and beginning down the corridor towards the noise. If anyone was left non-horrifically injured, he'd have to fix that. Hart turned a corner just in time to see the paper man and the boy with the scythe getting in a little scuffle with one of the Ferinus. He quickly backed into the shadows, drawing out a knife. He eyed the two figures curiously as one dispatched the Ferinus, wondering where Wraith had gone. It didn't really seem like the alien to let two perfectly killable enemies walk away from her. 'Oh well, not my loss. I wonder if I can make the origami freak into some paper snowflakes.' |
