The casual smile and upbeat pace was not unusual for the person heading down the hall. It was practically part of his nature to be energetic and an optimist. But what did draw attention, was the long package he had in his arms. It was a box, a large box, roughly 4 feet long, and very plain. But given the nature of the person holding it, almost anything could be inside.

Isaac continued his cheery pace before finally arriving at Anya's door before giving a quick knock. His usual dopey smile stretched ear to ear.

You see, Isaac was up to something.

School politics were an interesting thing. As the Red Tails gained more and more influence among the student body, other large "gangs" had begun to form in response to this apparent struggle for power.

As such Anya was nursing under her torn sleeve a painfully bruised arm, the result of her latest encounter with another gang's attempt at crushing her group. Of course it could have been worse, after all it was a seldom occurrence for the losers of a fight to come off better than the winner.

The plan then was to return to her room, grab a new uniform, and pretend like the day was proceeding as normal as usual. Well, as normal as a day could be at SIN Academy.

The inevitable sight of Isaac standing at her door then came as a surprise, the redhead not expecting any visitors at all, especially one as bouncy as the one in front of her.

"Mr. Kurai," she said, hiding her arm behind her as she announced her presence behind him.

"Anya~! Just the person I was looking for." He said with a grin. "And you can just call me Isaac you know. Mr. Kurai is so formal, sounds like my dad or something. Anywho! I got you something!"

His smile spread from ear to ear, and it was very clear that he was excited, more than usual I might add. He held out the long box, offering it to her. "It took some finding and wrangling, but I found one that was the perfect color too~!

You see, ladies and gents, within the box was no average gift. Inside was a 14th century Katana, hand-forged, and in it's original red sheath. The boy beamed, unaware that for Anya to find out what was inside said box, she would have to use both hands.

A gift?

Anya warily eyed the box in Isaac's hand, at the same time wondering if the teen was able to read the current state of the air at all. No, that was a ridiculous question. After all, the opposing air around him was an entity all of its own.

She let out an inner sigh of defeat, unable to compete with the boy. With her good hand she took the long box from his own, and careful to keep her other arm hidden she circled her way around to her door.

"Thank you, Mr. Kurai. Would you like to come in for a drink?" He had taken the time to get her a gift, she might as well take the time to show him some proper courtesy.

"Sure!" He chirped, oblivious for the most part, though internally part of him could tell something was not quite right. His cheery expression appearing likely to remain even if the sun were to burn out. "I'm sure you'll like the gift, but if not I can see about swapping it out for something else too." He continued to ramble, following her inside.

"But I really think that....say, is something wrong with your arm?" While in some areas he may be more oblivious than others, he could be quite perceptive at times. "You've been favoring your other one since we started talking." he peered around trying to catch a look at the one she kept hidden behind her.

Anya had figured it was only a matter of time before Isaac would take notice, and putting on a faux smile she held out her injured arm for him to see. "I am afraid the stairs and I did not quite see eye to eye this morning."

From under the rags of her sleeve shades of red, black and blue could be seen bleeding through the remains of the tattered white fabric. However not wanting to show it off for too long, she quickly put it out of sight once more and headed for the kitchen subsection of her dorm.

Putting Isaac's package onto the nearby counter, she then filled the electric kettle with water and set it aside to boil.

"Is there anything you would prefer to drink? We have available chocolate, apple cider, and..." she took a moment to read the label, "red gingseng tea."

The boy eyed her for a moment.

"Hmm, tea sounds good actually, been a while since I've had any." He turned, pulling out his camera and cycling through the pictures it contained. "I don't know why you're not telling me the real story for how you got those bruises, but I guess there's a reason you don't want to tell me." He added with a slight smirk. Isaac knew that someone as gifted and athletic as Anya was not likely to succumb to mere gravity and some stairs.

When her back had turned he reached out with his powers and ripped open the fabric of space and time, creating a bridge between his house and Anya's room. Then he casually walked through the open gate and went to gather what he needed, the doorway across space glowing softly at the edges. It looked rather out of place just floating in the middle of Anya's room, almost comical.

"Even if you don't want to tell me, as your subordinate in the Redtails, I will say that you can trust me." He returned to the gate and stepped through, soft smile on his face.

"And as your friend."

The smile on Anya's face quickly disappeared. There didn't seem to be a need to pretend any longer.

There was a moment of silence as she patiently waited for the hissing kettle to finish its job, and once done the hot water was poured into a small black pot followed by two bags of tea. While the tea began to steep, with her good hand she set-up a small tray with two ceramic cups and brought them to the small table not too far from the din that was Isaac's portal.

At the table she paused briefly to give the portal an envious eye, her inner mind fighting to convince herself that there had to be a reason for it being there and that Isaac wasn't merely trying to show off the impressiveness of his abilities.

Then she turned around to make a second trip for the pot back at the counter before finally finding rest at the sofa sitting back by the table.

She held out her injured arm once more, this time long enough for Isaac to get a good grasp of just how damaged it really was. "A fight," she said simply. "I won."

"I can see that." The boy replied with a chuckle, the gate closing behind him. "and if you're banged up, it must have been something." In his hands he held two small containers, and wrapping gauze, which he carried over and set on the floor in front of the couch.

"My sister keeps this stuff for when I get banged up on my adventures or on my Elite missions. The ointment tingles at first, but it helps hold the rest in place and ease the bruised tissue. This other stuff is some herbs my grandmother always used to use. They smell a little, but they really do work. Hold your arm steady."

Before she could protest, and since her arm was held out already, Isaac calmly and quickly scooped a small amount of ointment, just enough to cover two fingers, and slopped it on her arm, before carefully rubbing it over the visibly bruised portions, then turned to quickly apply the odd almost paste like substance he'd said were the herbs. The speed of his application, and the ease at which he wrapped the gauze over the bruising hinted that he had done this often enough to become quite good at it.

"You really need to be more careful though Boss" he said teasingly, closing the cap on both bottles. "After all, I'm only one texted picture away~"

"Wha-!" Anya jumped in her seat at Isaac's sudden treatment, letting out a sharp gasp as she restrained herself from pulling her arm back at the burning sensation from the applied ointment.

Once properly bandaged she took a quick moment to inspect her arm, actually surprised with how well it had been done.

"That was a mean thing to do, Mr. Kurai," she said, gently running her fingers up and down the odd texture of the gauze. True she wouldn't have been able to do the same if she had attempted to treat it on her own, but the sting of the ointment was something she would hold against him for the next little while.

Then satisfied with the current state of her arm, she turned her focus back to Isaac. "It is the boss' job to worry about her subordinates, not the other way around."

The boy grinned. It was kinda adorable to see the reserved and proud girl he was used to jump in surprise.

"Ah, but it's also the subordinate's job to ensure that the Boss's goals come to fruition as well, and that can't be done if said boss is off on her own~" he stood up and stretched before plopping down on the couch next to her. "Asking for help isn't a bad thing you know, especially from people you know you can rely on."

"After all, a thread alone can be easily torn, but a bundle of threads are much more difficult to break." He said, his eyes closed and one finger raised in mock sage-ness. "Or something like that." he laughed.

Anya dropped her head, as usual unable to compete with the teenage boy. "You are a difficult person to contend with, Mr. Kurai. However I will not deny that you make a valid point."

Taking a careful sip of tea, her eyes glanced over the rags of her torn sleeve now rolled above her bandage-wrapped arm. Seeing as that was partially the reason why she had returned to her room, she figured she may as well have that taken care of as well.

"Just a moment," she said, returning her cup to the table before getting up to head to her room for a new shirt.

From her open door the kitchen counter could be plainly seen, and on it Isaac's ridiculously sized package.

"Should I be concerned about your present?" she shouted from her room. "Judging by the weight and size of it, I assume it is not just a simple toy."

"Nope. Definitely not a toy." He called back with a grin. He really couldn't wait for her to see. It had taken him over a day of hunting to find it, and that was after scouring the net too! He lounged back on the couch, downing his own tea swiftly out of habit.

"But I promise you're like it, and that you wouldn't have seen it coming~"

It had cost him quite a lot of pay, but then, Isaac was never much for using money on himself, and Anya was becoming a dear friend, and he believed in her cause.

Walking out with a fresh blouse, the redhead now curious made straight for the box on the table. Actually looking at it now up close, it was indeed quite large-- Ridiculously large even.

She carefully picked it up, not wanting to break it as she brought it back to the sofa to open in front of its donor. Positioning the package so that its length lay on her lap and off the edge of the couch away from Isaac, her fingers found the divide separating the top and pulled up.

Green eyes fell upon glistening red, blinking several times to confirm just what it was she was looking at. Inside the box, was a sword. Specifically a katana sheathed in a red scabbard not too different from the ones she normally carried.

Putting the lid of the box aside so that both of her hands were free, she delicately lifted the weapon out of its package as if it were a newborn baby.

"Mr. Kurai... what is this?"

It was obvious really, but a part of her was still stunned with disbelief. In her hands... was an actual sword.

Isaac beamed happily, pleased at her reaction.

"It's a Katana. A real one I might add, hand made, not one of those silly machine made copies." He puffed out his chest proudly. "It took some finding, but I was able to get a collector to sell it to me. It's the genuine article, a real fourteen century one at that, before the old ways of forging the blade was lost~!" He chirped enthusiastically. His excitement plain to see as usual. He so loved watching people open gifts, it was one of the reasons he loved Christmas. The look of delight and surprise when he found the perfect gift made his whole month.

"You see, as our boss, you need something to really show that you're in charge, and well, when I think of you, I think to myself 'that girl needs a good old fashion Samurai sword!'"
