Fortune: *He was looking a lot more "done in" as of late. Even the heavy amounts of makeup he'd wear at the Sass wasn't enough to completely hide the dark circles under his eyes. Especially when he was in the dressing room.**He's waiting for Luc again, so he does rest his eyes a bit, sitting right by the back door and listening to the music on stage as he dozes.* Lucas: *The Little Touch of Sass was improbably easy to sneak into. There were three back ways into the alley where the back door was, and there was no vantage point anywhere that could see all three at once, even from above. To stake the place out, you'd need four guys outside or two inside, and anyone with half a brain would notice that.* *Someone was still trying though.* *Lucas came in over the rooftops, spidered down in a carefully chosen corner, and was unlocking the Sass' back door thirty silent seconds later. After he closed the door:* Hi, Fortune. There's a pig disguised as a bum pretending to sleep in the alley along Knocker Street. Fortune: *He doesn't jolt awake, only opening one eye at first and adjusting to Luc's aura, before sitting up right.* I'll have someone take care of it, thank you. *sighs* I'm not used to being under watch, but I guess I can't be too surprised. *smiles* No other trouble on your way here, I hope? Lucas: Not really, but th' street noises sound weird lately. Makes me jumpy. Whatcha need, boss? Fortune: I need you to run about six messages, two to the Dazzle Dust, one to the Oliver, and the three others will probably take some hunting. They're street walkers, but I've got pictures I can show you before you go. Lucas: Phew, busy night. Anythin' super-urgent, or can I pick where t' go first? Fortune: Just check off the street girls as you come across them since they might be with customers until the night slows down. As for the others, you can go wherever the heat is less intense. We've got... a lot of Elite to worry about, but as you've already told me, you're pretty on top of things. Lucas: *He likes the compliment, but tries not to show it.* You'd think they'd stay th' hell away after what happened t' the last batch. That or burn the whole neighborhood down. *He looks over his shoulder, though there's nothing there but a closed door.* Hey, boss, uh, I've been hearin' things 'bout people disappearin'. Is that the pigs, or...? Fortune: It's not Maitho Savat, I can promise you that much. *shakes his head**He'd say more, but he won't put that on Lucas just yet* I would argue it's the Elite, but there are a lot of people who are like Savat but less bold. It's possible they're picking up people too. Nothing but hear-say at the moment. Lucas: "A lot"...? This city is fucked up. *shakes it off* Okay, boss, where's th' messages? Or are they out loud this time? Fortune: No, they aren't out loud. *He hands him a few envelopes and a couple scraps of notes that he was keeping tucked away in his dress. The scraps are just phone numbers by the looks of things.* I'm going to have you drop off a couple parcels in the near future, so these are just making sure they're aware of what's going on. Lucas: Got it. *He puts each envelope in a different pocket, memorizing which goes to which destination, and the scraps of paper down the sides of his sneakers. You wouldn't be able to tell he's carrying anything without actually searching him. Well, or being the right kind of User, he supposed.* Well, y'know my number when y' need me. *This is with a cheeky grin, since of course Fortune gave him the cell phone in the first place.* Fortune: *smiles back* Yes, yes I do. Fortune: Give me a call too if things get too tense to keep going. We'll figure something else out if need be. Lucas: Sure. *It was good to have a boss who knew that "no matter what" was a good way to get dead. But Lucas would work pretty hard not to have to admit to Fortune that he couldn't finish a job.* Arright, I guess I'm outta here. Fortune: fair enough. *He sounds like he's going to say something else, but he stops himself.* We'll talk again soon, most likely very soon. Lucas: *Well that sounds ominous.* Sure. Good luck, boss. Fortune: Same to you, Luc. Same to you. *Now... to see to that "bum" outside...* |
