Taking his group of kids and digimon, Joe sets out to scout out the land, as well as find some food to bring back. What will they eat? He wondered to himself, wondering if they'd end up eating other digimon. Shaking his head at that thought, Joe decided not to follow that train of thought any further. He guessed that they'd find some sort of wild game or fruit or something that the digimon ate.

"Stay close to the group," Joe spoke to the others as he led the way. "We don't want anyone getting lost."

They had trekked from the forest clearing they were in, looking around for any trees that bore fruit or something that looked eatable. "Hmm.. maybe we should've moved the entire camp since we're getting pretty far from the others." Joe mused to himself softly, then shook his head. "No sense in doubting myself now. Gotta find food for the others!" Turning to the digimon, Joe decided to ask them. "What around here is good to eat, you guys?"

"Each other, mostly." Sieg seats himself, since they've stopped for the moment, and Sean flops to seated as well, crossing their legs as they do; they sit straight-backed but at ease, apparently comfortable. "There's DigiNoir if you can scurry it up, but it doesn't seem like humans need to eat here as much, apparently."

Claire shrugs. "Who cares what we eat so long as it's edible and tastes alright? Food's food! What's good is good and what's bad is bad and as long as I'm getting plenty of exercise, it doesn't matter if it's not the healthiest thing in the world! And hey, I'm always going to be getting plenty of exercise. Especially if we're on an adventure to save the world! Right? Right?"

Her DORUmon partner gives her an odd look. "... Are all humans insane?"

"Whatever's around," Ein replied out of annoyance. Having been dragged away from what could have been a good fight, the Monodramon seemed to have gone into a sulking mood.

"What do you mean by humans not needing to eat here?" Emii asked Sieg as she examined the device she had woken up with and frowned.

"Ummm --- does anyone know how these things work?" she asked curiously. "Since we didn't ask that strange voice speaking to us through them, I thought someone knew how they worked."

"Well, I figured I'd just fool around with it until I figured out how to do everything with it. Learning through experience and misadventure! But that's a good point. Maybe asking would be a better plan." Claire states. "They look really interesting, though."

"Apparently there was some trouble with that in an earlier version of the Digital World and the last few models have some new code which sustains humans for far longer." Sieg explains. "As for the Digivice... you're supposed to only be able to use them in times of great danger. Or... something like that."

Sean draws one knee up to their chest, resting their chin on it. "How useful..."

"It has something to do with our evolution and maturity, according to rumors. I really want to see what it's like sometime" Nanashi says with quite a lot of enthusiasm. For all of his exasperation with his human partner, the DORUmon isn't that different from her.

"Well! If we're trying to save the world or whatever, great danger's inevitable, right? I'm surprised we've not come under attack yet, really! But I'm ready whenever! It's been a while since I've been in a fight!"

"That's a bad idea. You humans don't seem particularly, ah, durable compared to us and a lot of Digimon have really strong attacks that could be really, REALLY dangerous for you guys." The small purple Digimon looks really smug. "Leave it to *us* and just offer support, alright?"

"So basically what you're telling me is that once we sate our initial hunger.. we should be good to go for a while, right?" Joe mused, scratching his chin. He then shrugged and grinned. "That's fine by me! Makes it much easier to deal with, right?"

While Joe and the others weren't looking, some of the kids that followed them slipped off into the woods. They carried an unusually cold expression when they did so. Even their digimon.. for those of them that had them, didn't seem like nice fellows. In fact, it seemed as if they knew what they were doing.. very strange.

"Well, if anyone doesn't have any further objections, we'll get a mo-" Joe began to say when he noticed some of the group was missing. "HEY! I thought I told you guys not to wander off on your own!"

Taking out his digivice and putting it into search mode, he was taken aback that only their little group showed up now! "What the..?!" He frowns as he mutters those words. "What the hell's going on with this thing?"

Zooming out on the search, he saw Tyson's group moving away at a steady pace.. but there was also fewer of them too. "Something's not right. Some of the kids have literally vanished." Joe spoke aloud as he looked back to the group with a frown. "Did anyone see the other kids sneak off?"

Sean glances around and shakes their head. The motion makes their orange hair whip around like fire. "Guess they decided to go do their own thing..."

Emii blinked in confusion as she glanced around the area, pursing her lips in thought. "Um, why would they do that?" the youngest of the group asked in confusion.

"Maybe they got eaten already?" Ein commented, leading to Emii sighing loudly.

"Let's not even joke about that." the pink-haired girl retorted as she glanced at her own device and began to fiddle with it. "Do I have that little detector?" she muttered questioningly to no one in particular.

"Should I head back and look around?"

Kasumi suddenly spoke up, after being oddly quiet for most of their little hike. She'd been fiddling with her own digivice which sadly seemed to have less options than the others, and thinking over what Ophanimon said. Things were probably going to become . . . problematic soon.

ToyAgumon put it's plastic claws on it's hips, and grunted. "Give us five minutes and we can find those pink-skinned brats! Haha!"

"Eh. As long as they're not totally alone and in something of a group they'll probably be fine, right? We're not the exploration police or whatever, right?" Claire shrugs. "Besides, it's not like they can get that far in a few minutes. We'll probably run into them soon enough, right?" She's probably tempting fate. Oh well.

The DORUmon with her hmmmphs and doesn't seem to be paying too much attention to the conversation.

"Hmm, I suppose you guys are right. If we don't see them by time we're on our way back, then we'll worry." Joe speaks after a bit of thought. "They might've just turned their devices off for some reason. Like going to the bathroom or something."

Satisfied with that notion, Joe stretched and looked around at the others present. "Alright, let's keep going and see what we find!" The blue-haired young man announces as he leads his small group onwards. Sniffing the air, Joe blinks and starts heading in a direction. "I smell water! And where there's water, there's fish!"

Sure enough, the group soon happened upon water stemming from a lake. "So, who wants to go fishing?!" Joe says happily as he looks around for tools to fish with. Since he has no digimon pal like the rest of them, he'd have to do it the old fashioned way.

"I'm no good at fishing. Too much waiting, too little action, ya know? I've tried punching fish out of the water before but it doesn't really work out too well for me. I need more training." Claire sighs, taking a moment for shadowboxing since she's unlikely to have anything better to do while the fishing is going on.

For a good fifteen minutes, it looks like the group will get to fish in peace. Joe's even reeling in a catch, and then the lake explodes.

Well, it's not so much that it 'explodes' as the water suddenly erupts, vertical, and from the inverted waterfall, a knife shoots out, and pins the fish (which, on closer examination, is not a reassuring grey or sea blue, but lime green, and also looks more like a cookie animal than a real fish) to a tree several meters away - although only one meter away from Sean, who freezes in shock and slowly sinks to their knees once they get muscle control back. When the torrent dies down, the reason becomes obvious:

Standing on the water is a girl. No, not a girl, a woman - judging from her height, at least, and her curves where the wind catches her clothes and pulls them tight. Her body is almost entirely obscured by the combat boots and roughspun cloak she's wearing, and the hood is up, so all you can make out in profile is the line of her face and a few white locks of hair that escape the collar. Beside her, actually facing the group - or rather, shielding her from them, in a fighting posture, so that even though she's mostly side-on they're back-to-back stands a SEALsdramon, a tall, lanky dinosaur clad in the black special forces armor of the D-Unit. The knife belongs to it, of course.

Beneath their feet, the lake has become completely still, reflecting the blue sky like glass. In spite of that, it's possible to see an overlapping ripple spreading out from them - not the water rippling, but the internal data that comprises it.

Neither of them speak, as if they're waiting for reactions.

"Hello! You're uh... You're walking on water! That's cool! That's really cool! How are you doing that?" Claire initially recoils from the surprising explosion of water and rapid movement but calms quickly. She notes the spec-ops Digimon's attitude and makes a show of relaxing, dropping out of the more aggressive stance she'd been in while she was practicing. "Can we do anything for you? Get you anyth- well actually, we don't have anything now that I think about it. We were in the process of trying to fix that really and..." She'd be perfectly happy to babble on politely and cheerfully but rather devoid of content unless interrupted.

'Nanashi', fortunately, provides just such an interruption, stepping on her foot, hard.

"Hey! That was gonna be dinner, y'know!" Joe says crossly as he looks back where the knife hit to make sure nobody was hurt. That'd be all he needed was for Tyson to have something to bitch at him about.. not like the guy looked like the type, but yeah, moving right along.. it seemed as if it nearly hit Sean, who Joe wasn't too pleased about. Though he did do a doubletake at the fish he caught. Turning his attention back to the mystery girl and her digimon, Joe calmed himself and spoke. "Listen, we're not looking for any trouble. We're just collecting something to eat then we'll be on our way."

He did notice that the girl was standing on the water's surface along with her digimon, which by all accounts should be impossible. But then again, who knew what was possible in this strange world? Maybe that was the norm? Either way, he wasn't about to test this out the hard way.

"Take the Digimon."
"Copy." The SEALsdramon moves, hitting the riverbank and leaping forward. Sieg moves to intercept him, seeing that his tamer is still on their knees in shock, and pounces, claws extended. The armored dinosaur's gloved claws flash, and he hits Sieg thrice: once in the chest, once in the gut, and once in the lower back. The little lion smashes to the grass and groans, struggling to move, to breathe, to do anything but lie there and whimper.

The girl is a little slower, but when she steps, the water 'bends' under her, like rubber, and flings her towards Joe. She lands short, boots on the grass, quite intentional, and one tanned arm shoots out from under the cloak, fingerless gloves creaking as her hand curls into a fist. It's a probing strike, rather than one she's committing too, but it's very fast and strong.

At the girl's words, Joe's eyes narrow. He didn't have to say anything to his companions as they'd know that it was time to defend themselves. But as he studied the girl for a few precious seconds, he noticed the water bend under her before she launched herself at him. Instantly moving into a defensive stance, Joe was ready for the fist that followed, knowing that some sort of attack was coming. What he wasn't expecting was the speed of it, which kinda caught him offguard enough that he only had enough time to block the incoming hit.. and that forced him back a step or two.

"You're pretty strong. That means I shouldn't hold back!" He spoke, feeling the pins and needles feeling spread through his arms where she struck. That hurt. Joe was concerned for that digimon that was attacking his companions, but he knew better than to split his attention when an opponent was right in front of him. He may not remember how he got here or what he was doing before that, but he hasn't forgotten how to fight! He could tell that the girl was feeling him out, seeing what he could do. Wordlessly, Joe struck back with a fast punch of his own; a hook aiming for her jaw. He knew at this point words were meaningless so if he could take the master down, maybe the digimon would stop.

The woman steps in and tilts her head, dodging the hooking blow with the absolute minimum of motion. She is not particularly fast, so much as she is precisely where she needs to be - the motion is one of skill, not speed. As his blow whips past, she pivots slightly on her front leg and drives her back knee up into his gut, targeting the liver in a single, powerful strike, looking to put him down and out of the fight in one blow.
