He’d always been interested in the occult, and it had always been there for him, finger lengths away if only he could reach across into the world of spirits like his great ancestor had done and gained the power for himself. However he was not so lucky to have been born in with spiritual powers like the rest of his family and he often felt like the ugly duckling, a black sheep and a parasite on the hide of his family’s legacy. Despite his mother’s affection he lacked the one thing a boy wanted, the approval and love of his father instead he received neglect and unjustified hatred. Daichi Hayashi had spent his entire life trying to gain his father’s approval but always fell short, he lacked the ability to use fire and along with his father’s distaste Daichi was teased, bullied and isolated by the other members of the large family that inhabited the Hayashi estate. There were days when the other children would set him on fire and laugh as he screamed out in pain and rolled in the dirt trying to put out the fires. He was considered the weakest to ever be born in the Hayashi main family and was seen as such even in the eyes of his Uncle who agreed with his father to send him away into exile to never again show his face before them. Even with his siblings Daichi felt a lone, his night terrors going unheard as he listened to the harsh voices telling him to kill his brother and sister, to defeat his father and uncle to become the head of the family, to open the gate for the “beast” to be unleashed and unleash havoc and fear on the world again. Many years later Daichi still heard the voices and the anxiety he had when he was a child, the feeling of being an outcast and not belonging anywhere. He often thought that was the reason he teamed up with the old master that drowned his sorrows in carnal pleasure. They were the same on so many levels and yet completely different but there was one thing for sure that bond them, the masks they wore and the personas they put on to keep the people around them from seeing who they truly were. Daichi realized the reason he was so upset the night before that his brother and sister showed up was because they had begun to breech the wall around his heart that he had set up even before he had been forced to leave. He smiled to convince his siblings and his mother he was happy but deep down he wasn’t, he was angry at his inability to use fire, his weakness to resist the darkness that called out to him every night. Katashi had caught him one night with a knife in his hands standing outside his father’s door, he could see the concern and the curiosity in his face but along with it disapproval and anguish. “Who are you to decide if someone lives or dies you are not the god of Judgment.” Katashi had said sternly as he wrestled the knife from the seven year pld Daichi’s hand and escorted him back to his room. “What if I want to the god of judgment Uncle? Who are they to tease and abuse me, to say I am nothing because I can’t use fire.” Daichi replied. They stared at one another for what seemed like hours before Katashi ushered his nephew into his room and tucked him in bed. “Daichi, sleep and in the morning I will speak more with you.” Daichi didn’t sleep that night he ran into the forest that surrounded the estate and he cried out for someone to help, for someone to hear his pleas but no one ever did. Daichi considered his siblings lucky to have the approval of the man he admired, the man he wanted to be so much like when he was a child before the abuse started. He hated his mother at times for her constant coddling and babying him that led to his father’s hatred and when he was exiled the only thing he could think of was revenge until he met two people that changed his life. Daichi knew Nanolly was there before she ever spoke a word, her footsteps were loud and her unique scent always gave her away. The frigid winter pierced through his body like daggers but he didn’t shiver or shake he had been numb to the cold for years and almost lost a finger and his entire left foot from frostbite one winter had it not been for a good Samaritan that found him in the tundra. Daichi knew from the why Nanolly was positioned she would be able to see the circular shaped seal, that looked like a tattoo, on his left shoulder but he would not tell her what it was or what it signified, since he had long since given up the Hayashi family crest/mon he didn’t think she would ask about it. He didn’t say much allowing her to wrap her arms around his waist while his golden eyes stayed trained on a raven that had perched itself on a branch over the garden. He remembered the days when he was almost happy, with his brother and sister they played and talked all the time but there was still a distance between them forged from their mother’s obsession with him and their father’s distain for him. He told her that he hadn’t planned on leaving because the snow would slow Muten down from his old age but that was a lie, there were things he had to take care of before he could go loose ends he had to tie up. “Yeah I remember and I’ll meet you there.” Daichi rose his eyebrow suspiciously at Nanolly as she inqured about the woman that Muten had brought in last night while they were sleeping, she assumed he hadn’t brought her there. He found it odd that she wouldn’t think he would do such a thing, though he wasn’t as loud and obnoxious as Muten and Souko about sex he was a man. “What makes you so sure it wasn’t me squirt?” Daichi said with a half-smile. “But you’re right it was the old man he brought her in while you guys were sleeping and you should just save your breath because he won’t think you’re scolding him.” The snow began to fall again, his eyes turned to look at the empty perch where the raven had sat watching him and his sister. He wondered what made Nanolly think it was so beautiful, he was tired of the snow it held too many painful memories that sat heavy on his heart. Souko’s voice brought Daichi back to reality as his older brother came to hand him a black card intended for the use of the perverted old man. There wasn’t much to say about it he had grown used to Muten’s sexual escapades and no longer cared what he did, he was a grown man. “I’ll tell him that but if he gets arrested Souko you’re going to bail him out of jail and he’s going to stay with you until he croaks. “ " None of your business little one. That and his woman breaking wind while she sleeps but not only, I checked around the Front to see where you two were, someone has arrived at the entrance." "Someone?" "Mother." Daichi’s heart dropped in his chest hearing that his mother had shown up, he didn’t want to see her he had not come back for a family reunion to reconnect severed bonds with the Hayashi family. “Guess Goro told everybody I was back, fuck that makes doing business here a hell of a lot harder for me. Be sure to kick Goro in his nuts when you see him Souko and tell him that was from me.” Daichi debated on running; leaving before his mother could lay eyes on him but he decided against it doing such a thing would break her heart and send her into a stupor where she would be unable to come back from so he stayed like he always had. In his youth he had become what she wanted him to be to please her while he hid his resentment and anger deep in the pit of his belly. He watched his siblings for a second, the smell of his mother’s perfume filling his nostrils before she ever got near him. The world was quiet, he could hear was the beating of his own heart and a loud exasperated yell of excitement that he knew belonged to Muten and the tumbling of something heavy, in the back of his mind he knew the old man had caused an avalanche of some kind somewhere in the distance. He saw Ranna, his golden eyes softening for a moment and for the first time in years he felt like a child, tender and scared. “Oii don’t forget what I said to do to that idiot.” Those were the last words to his brother as he left, side stepping his mother’s hand as it reached out to touch him, Nanolly hugged her but it seemed that the only thing the woman was focused on was him. A chuckle in the back of his mind brought him back to reality as he realized he was no longer that child that wore the mask of a loyal loving son. He was Kurosawa Daichi, a man born in the black swamp of the nether world and a private specialist in the occult area. He was showered in kisses, he had to lean his head to so Ranna could reach his forehead, it was instinctual but he knew that he couldn’t let the habits of the past continue into the present. “Stop it,” Daichi finally said in voice he had not used in years, a soft tender voice that would not hurt his fragile mother before the rage set in at how she reacted to his siblings. “There was nothing you could have done to keep me there. I was miserable, I hated it there. Kuro did right to send me away and Katashi agreed to do that way before it happened. You’ve been beating yourself up all these years and haven’t realized once that maybe Katashi agreed to send me away to benefit me.” He wiped the tears from her eyes and pulled the dark green t shirt back over his head and stretched his neck, cracking the bones before he looked back at her. “You look the same as you did back there, still pretty and ageless, perfect in every way.” He stopped a moment and allowed the rage to settle before he pulled his mother to her feet and motioned for her to walk with him. Daichi knew that this would be the last time he would ever be able to walk hand in hand with his mother like a day from the past when he was knee high and wide eyed. He long since lost those features, his eyes were narrowed and golden and he was much taller standing at six foot one and weighing over two hundred pounds of muscle. “Let’s walk one last time okay?” Daichi led them through the snow covered garden, his hand wrapped in his mother’s soft small hand and his eyes locked on the path ahead of them. “You gotta let go of that regret and guilt Mom, I turned out fine I hated it back then, you will never know what type of things I went through. Take care of Nanolly and try to make things right with Souko; they are all you have left. I’m never coming back there I’m not a Hayashi anymore I’m Daichi Kurosawa; Lightning Tiger of the West. You still have me just not like it used to be you can’t ignore everyone and everything else just to be with me. I can’t be the one to make you happy because I won’t be there to go on walks with you, you can’t keep looking at the past and wonder why I didn’t do more. It’ll eat a hole in your soul and you’ll be left with nothing the people that have been there will no longer be there for you and you’ll have a rage building until you explode. Believe me momz it ain’t fun. I learned a lot while I was away I’ve been all over the world and done a lot of things I would have never been able to if I hadn’t left. Just promise me you’ll try to make things right with Souko and Nanolly and if you do I promise I’ll come back to see you and we can do this again. ” How would she react to hearing these things would she cry or would she understand that behind that smile he wore every day was a lie and he was unhappy to point of wanting to murder his family? He realized that he had been so easily influenced by the voices he heard that had Katashi not stopped him he would have been killed by his father, who was relentless and a light sleeper. Daichi loved his mother and his siblings but there was a place in his heart that was still thick with bitterness towards the wounds he sustained while living as a Hayashi. However Daichi knew that his mother needed him back then so he hid the pain and acted out, he felt as if he were in a prison back then and now he was finally free to be who and what he wanted to be. “I’ll never stop loving you mom, I may not be a kid anymore but I know I’ll always be one to you.” -- Katashi watched his brother as he spoke, the vicious, ruthless man that was the embodiment of dedication and strength. He adored his brother and praised him as much as he could before being disgusted by his rage and ignorance at times, his hardheadedness made him unbareable to be around but when they were a lone like this Katashi saw glimpses of the boy that used to follow him around like a puppy, that trained and fought by his side growing up. “My brother, that is not all.” Katashi said as he ran his hands through his graying hair. “The reason I would not send your children or anyone else for that matter is because the Higirashi family, the Earth users have begun their ceremony to keep Genbo the Earth beast at bay. They become very violent around this time and a much younger member would not know what to expect or how to handle such a situation. I trust you more than anyone here and I know that if something were to happen you would be able to handle it. But I do not believe they will violate their treaty despite the rumors that have been floating around these days.” Katashi stopped and smiled at his brother before he turned his head to the side to watch a shadow of a placing person. “You know Kuro, had it been up to me you would be the leader of the Hayashi family not me. You were Grandfather’s favorite he wanted desperately for you to be head but Kamo’s sword chose me like it has chosen your Nanolly as next head. Be safe brother and when you catch the phoenix may I have one of its feathers?” It was a rare moment for the brother’s to be like this, no hostility or anger at a decision that Katashi had made. It was pleasant to be there locked in time like they were, until the cry of bird in the distance broke the peaceful standstill. “I will watch of your children until your return my brother, I will keep their minds and bodies stimulated so that they will not have the time to get into trouble.” Wonderful. |
