Alright, here is the inaugural edition of The Rock’s Perspective. Let’s get down to business . . . oh and, feel free to leave your feedback and comments. I welcome them . . .

My Take on the ECWF:

Basically, I think things in the ECWF overall are pretty good. Not excellent but good. The activity has been down in the last couple weeks but that has been chalked up to schedules and life. Things happen. I’ve always said real life comes first. What we do here we do for fun and as a hobby. We have a great core group here and one hell of a fed. If I could change one thing, it would be to attract more members. We’ve had our fair share of newcomers but they sign up and remain inactive. I’m working on some stuff that will hopefully attract new members and keep them active after they sign up.

I’ve noticed too that we have had a number of you stepping up. I really like to see how you guys are working hard overall in your promos and on your characters. With Stage if Legends closing in, I was expecting a little more on the promo front, but what I have seen so far has been very good. I’m impressed particularly with the guys in the Ultimate Internet Invitational. Each of you have stood out to me and I want you to know it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Keep up the good work all of you. Pretty soon, you’ll be giving the Heavyweight Title Division a run for its money.

Superstar of the Week:

Like I mentioned above, a number of you have really stood out to me over the last couple weeks. But one person in particular has really showed some guts. Billy Jo Patton makes my Superstar of the week simply because she has stuck with it and recently showed she can hang with the boys without a problem. The fiery Redneck Woman made her presence known when she beat TrenB in a match a couple weeks back. Tren may not be as established as the rest of our roster, but that certainly does not take away from the potential BJP has. She is our first female competitor in long time and to me, she’s a breath of fresh air. I can see her giving some of our champions an ulcer in the weeks and months to come. Awesome job Billy Jo!!

Highlights from MNM 5-14:

Earlier this week, ECWF put on another fantastic Monday Night Massacre. To me, this show was better than usual. We saw our feuds reach all time highs as well as another appearance from our mystery figure. He seems to have Matt Ackerman in his sights. He showed up after the Main Event when Matt’s tag partner and SOL opponent, Torch, turned on him and cost his team the match. Who is the man under the hood? Only time will tell.

I know this is going to be biased but I have to say I have really enjoyed feuding with Craig Lovecraft. Craig is such a good heel and I thin his heel turn last month (or was it the month before?) was the best move he could’ve made. I think its no secret that virtually everyone here thinks of Shane Warner as ECWF’s top heel. But Craig is quickly establishing himself as a top heel and take it from someone who has fought the best, he is definitely one of the best heels around. Win or lose at SOL, that man is going to be in the Heavyweight Title scene very soon.

The International X Title seems to be working out well and Vlad has had a great run with it. I think this title was always considered a low card title which is why I felt the need to make a change and Vlad as our first Champion fit the bill perfectly. Despite who wins at SOL, I think the line of people wanting a crack at the IX Title is going to grow longer and longer. Prestige always makes a title special and this one is going to rank up there among the others as a sought after belt.

SOL Rundown:

Speaking of SOL, we have a great card and the potential to have one hell of a show.

International X Title Match – Vlad vs. Reaper:
Vlad has been our reigning IX Champ since the belt was repackaged. He’s had a good run but I think he’s come across his toughest competition yet. Reaper has just come out of one of ECWF’s greatest tag teams in the Unholy Heroes and has been working very well in singles competition. While this section isn’t for match predictions, I firmly believe these 2 are going to make it close. Should be a good one.

Steel Cage Grudge Match, Pure Title #1 Contender – Rob Sattler vs. Mr. Spectacular
The Pure division has been a bit quiet and our new Champ Louie Stevens has been more involved in the Thrillers business as a whole. To be honest, Louie hasn’t had much competition. The Pure Division hosts a certain style that few can master. Enter Rob Sattler. Rob was the protégé of Pete Jones and a member of the faction Ratings Inc. He’s learned from the best. With the end of Ratings Inc via Pete’s injury, Rob has ventured out on his own and it hasn’t taken him long to find a home in the Pure Scene. After repackaging himself, Rob has become better than ever. This match at SOL has the potential to be a good one but with inactivity one side, the match has seemed a bit lopsided. Look for the winner of this one to hit hard in the Pure Division.

Countdown’s Ultimate Internet Invitational – Roger Irons vs. Saint Omen vs. Alex Seeker vs. Anthony Tarantino
You could not get 4 more deserving men in this match than these guys. You have a damn good Champ in Countdown and a veteran to boot who’s looking for a #1 Contender. What better way to decide it then a fatal fourway match? I have really been impressed with each of these guys. The determination and hard work put in by each has set a benchmark that everyone should work for. Not only that, but I’ve personally watched 3 of them go from the learning rookie to establishing themselves as Key Players. Omen, Seeker and Ant have really come a long way and each are perfecting their characters very well. Not only that, but their promos have steadily gotten better. Roger Irons has been someone I really enjoy watching as well. He went from the Jolly pirate to the comic heel and does it better than I’ve seen in a long time. I find myself laughing out loud reading his promos. A veteran of the game, Roger made a wise career move repackaging himself. As fun as the pirate was, The cocky heel is even better. Just remember who the REAL Iron Man is Rog. Lol All four of you earn a big kudos for all your hard work and quality. This match is one to wait for. There is no clear cut winner here. Any man could take this. Just remember, to the man that wins, you have a huge challenge on your hands in the UI Champion. This match is a potential show stealer.

Coalition Tag Team Triple Threat Title Match - IOP vs. EWC vs. The Serial Thrillers (Brad & Steve)
A match of epic proportions. Shane and Steve make up the Icons of Primetime and you couldn’t get a better team . . . in theory. The fact is while Shane has been his usual top notch self, Steve seems to have hung him out to dry and thus left Shane with a huge disadvantage going into SOL. Is Steve going to make a re-emergence or will Shane be left holding the bag? I hope the former . . . and the East West Connection . . . two of the best veterans anyone could find anywhere. With multiple successes in more than one fed, Xpac and WCW have truly set the standard on the Tag Scene. WCW is a Hall of Famer and a true Legend. Xpac is the crafty veteran and a promo machine. Not only that, but both men deliver nothing but quality every time. You won’t two guys better suited to their characters. Xpac in particular has gone from the new guy everyone laughed at to the Veteran that seems to be unbeatable at times. I know Xpac has had some frustrations in recent months but SOL is the point where I think he and WCW are going to make a big splash. The Serial Thrillers, Brad and Steve, two very gifted youngsters and with Matt Ackerman as their “leader” the sky is the limit. They have seen rough times since they came in, but I think this group is settling in nicely. I don’t know if they’ll be able to one up their Veteran opponents but they’ll damn sure come close . . . that is if the promos come. I’ve noticed all three teams have been surprisingly silent. On paper, this match looks huge. But in reality, unless we see a big finish in the promo race, it might turn out to be a letdown. I really am looking forward to this but I would love to see some promos to make it interesting.

King of the Deathmatch Championship Match - Exploding C4 Deathmatch - Craig Lovecraft © vs. The Iron Man
Ok yes, I am biased in this. But I totally give credit where its due. Like I said above, Craig has skyrocketed to the top and has surpassed the record as ECWF’s longest reigning KOTD Champ. I can’t say anything bad about Craig. As for me, well I have had a lot of fun with this feud. I never thought I’d be competing for the KOTD belt. I always thought of Iron Man as an all around competitor but it wasn’t until recently that I had more than just the Heavyweight Division in mind. I had planned on a shot at the tag titles with Pete but with his retirement, that just wasn’t to be. Maybe down the road. For now, I am really excited at this shot and love the kind of challenges guys like Craig give. I can’t wait to see what happens at SOL and beyond. Win or lose at SOL, I see Craig moving to the UI and/or Heavyweight Divisions very soon. As for me, well that remains to be seen. There are still plenty of guys I wouldn’t mind feuding with. Then again, I’m curious as to who would want a feud with me, regardless of whether or not gold is involved. But that’s a different topic for a different time. For this match, a C4 Deathmatch, I have seen one before and I promise you this match is going to be one to remember.

ECWF Elite World Championship Re-Match - Matt Ackerman © vs. Torch
How many guys can say they’ve held the biggest title in the business . . . twice? I believe Matt is only the third man to accomplish this. I know Shane has done it and I THINK Sean Gotti was a two time Champ. I could be wrong though. Regardless, Matt has had a great month, winning the title and establishing his new faction, The Serial Thrillers. How well have they done? Matt is the HW Champ, Louie the Pure Champ and Brad and Steve are Contenders for the Tag Titles. All around, Id say it’s a good time to be a Thriller. As for Matt’s opponent, Torch has been another one that has absolutely been a rising star. A former KOTD Champ and a former Pure Champ, Torch is looking to gain his/her (yes the face behind Torch is a girl and she is kicking ass!) 3rd title and not to mention, the big one. 3 titles in 6 months (give or take) sounds like success to me. This match at SOL is the Main Event for a reason and not just because its for the HW Title. These two competitors are two of the best and with the mysteries surrounding the feud (some outside . . . attention from not 1, but 2 sources.) this is one I am so looking forward to. Matt is one guy Ive gotten to know well and even had a feud with him (for my HW Title Reign last year) and I can honestly say that Canada’s son is one of the best. Torch, whom I’ve also gotten to know very well has quickly become one of the best names around. That’s why this feud is so good because these two guys are truly Elite. This match is going to be one of the closest and I’m betting a match of the year candidate. But its really any man’s match. And there is the whole, who’s watching Ackerman bit . . . =).

Advice:

This might seem like kind of an odd section but I figured it would be a good addition. Lately, I’ve had a few of you PM me about your promos and what I think of them as well as any advice to offer. So I thought I’d share with everyone . . .

This is by no means gospel, but from someone who’s been at this for over two years and had success in a few feds, I’ve found the most success in making sure my promos are well presented (spelling, grammar, etc), creative and well thought out. There are more than a couple aspects to your promos but you should focus on the above mentioned as well as setting and description. When you write a promo, its important for you establish your setting and the “mood.” If your character is angry, bring it out by saying more than . . . “Iron Man sits angrily in his gym.” Put some thought into it and give a description of your setting. Instead of saying Iron Man is angry in his gym, give some description of the gym and what your character is doing. Maybe he’s on the punching bag, his frustration very evident by the obvious aggression in his workout. He doesn’t just punch the bag, he yells or shouts as he does it, throwing more force behind his punches. Description is very important in getting people interested in your promos and holding their attention. At the same time, being too wordy can get you in trouble as to much description can cause people to lose interest. Try and find the balance.

Focus on being creative and not saying the same things over and over. “I’m gonna kick your ass” is not a promo. Nor does it make you look good. Make your character come off well spoken. Work on addressing the “camera” and how your character comes across. Put some thought into what you say and how your character says it. I know people are thinking “we just write this, how do you do all that?” If you have trouble seeing my point, read the promos of the veterans like Ackerman, WCW, Shane and more. Take the time to think about your promo and how you want to come across. If you need advice, by all means feel free to ask or check out the Dojo.

Short and sweet, I know, but you could write a book about this. I’ve just hit on some key points. I hope that helps.

Random Thoughts:

Nothing right now but I know there will be something down the road . . . stay tuned.

Shout Out:

Its about time to wrap this up. But before I do, I owe a few people some recognition . . .

Pete Jones – Most of you know by now that Pete’s character suffered a broken back a couple weeks ago at the hands of Craig Lovecraft. Pete has effectively retired due to a new career as a Police Officer and not a lot of free time. This isn’t to say that Pete won’t ever be back, but for now, The Master of Destruction has been sidelined. Pete, I just wanted to say that we all miss you Bro and that I was sad to see you go. But I wish you nothing but the best in your career and no matter what happens, The ECWF is your home. You’ve been like a brother (if you could do that on the net lol) so thanks for everything!

The Staff – I could write pages on each of these guys individually but I don’t have the time for that. Having said that, I thank each of you profusely for working so hard to turn out quality shows. I know schedules haven’t been flexible but you all pushed through it. I can’t thank you enough for everything. Its truly been a privilege working with and getting to know all of you. I think this is the best Staff any fed has ever seen. Thanks for everything boys!

I could also go on and on about each of you but then I wouldn’t have anything to write later on. Lol For now, that’s all I have but I think its been a good opener. Stay tuned for more and eventually, I’ll have an in character one of these. That’s all for now. Rock . . . Out.

(It worked for Seacrest . . . I’m cooler right?)

now that i'm not dying from exhaustion, i'll give you more than a one liner lol.

i like this column. i mean, i've seen you do something from IM's perspective once, but here is different. i like that you kind of provide just the tiniest bit of method to your madness =P

what i liked what the advise part. i'm not trying to sound like a jackass, but some people really need it. you know, i need it sometimes too lol. (wow, pompus much?)

and the MNM run down was pretty good too. and the SOL thing. like, its kind of hyping the card, but not making Clay or Tim do it lol. its actually what you think and what you like. an as a member of the active roster, we typically like to know what the boss likes to see. *hint hint guys*

also...
