Dave lived in a mansion in the upper-class area of Morningside, Edinburgh and went to the best school money could buy. But he wasn’t happy, something was missing. Dave began to get interested in wrestling from the age of 8, and by his 16th birthday he was seriously considering to make a career out of it, much to his fathers disgust (read my sacrifice). By the time he was 18 Dave made his way to the states, to follow his dreams. It was here that he hooked up with veteran Dave Seward, who took Dave under his wing and taught him how to work. Dave burst onto the wrestling scene when he joined Ringside wrestling Federation, the cocky youngster soon hooked up with a man who was to be very important to his career……Shawn Mackay. Dave and Shawn became close friends, traveling everywhere together, partying hard and living the good life. Together they formed a team known as Thrillaz Inc, which, with Tony Clifton and Mike Montana Made up the Elite heel stable known as Weapon of Choice. As a foursome the group ran all over the federation and captured all the gold on offer. Thrillaz Inc would hold the tag titles and never lose them as RWF went out of business before anyone could figure out how to beat them. Dave took a hiatus from the business after RWF closed down and got mixed up with drink and drugs….in a big way. One night, after a cocktail of Alcohol and drugs Dave ended up in hospital, fighting for his life, a fight that he thankfully won. When he recovered he was a changed man, his focus was on getting back into the ring, and becoming great again. Dave then received a phone call that would change his life again, it was Shawn Mackay…..EPW wanted Thrillaz Inc. Within a few weeks Dave and Shawn had made the move to EPW and were soon followed be the other 2 Weapon of Choice members, Tony Clifton and Mike Montana, WoC was all set to run wild again……or was it? On the surface everything seemed fine with WOC, but behind the scenes cracks were showing and one night at a house show it all came to a head, Shawn Mackay and Mike Montana left EPW, never to return, and left Dave McIntyre and Tony Clifton to carry the WoC name. And maybe more importantly left Dave as a singles competitor for the first time. Dave soon came into his own as a singles star amassing an impressive winning streak, before beating future EPW champion Kalada to take the Deathmatch title. Dave and Tony carried off the WoC name well on their own, both carrying their own title and defending it everywhere and anywhere. Eventually though Dave lost his belt in an epic battle to Redcold, only to regain it a few weeks later, making him the first ever two time Deathmatch champion. His second title reign cam to an end thanks to Bosse. Dave went down to help out on EPW’s development territory EWF for a brief stint, and wrestled under a mask and the assumed name of Mark Sensation, Capturing Hardcore gold, whilst still competing for EPW. Dave then also signed on for The New Age Of Wrestling, quickly establishing himself as a main event player with a stable know as the Aces, which consisted of NAW champion Razor, Tv champion Maverick and Dave himself. Trouble was brewing however as Dave and Maverick turned on Razor and allowed Dave to capture his first ever world title. It was a few weeks after that Dave clashed with his old running buddy Shawn Mackay. Dave and Shawn engaged in a bloody war over the belt, ending up in a match at Total Carnage (NAW’S Wrestlemania). In a shock turn of events Destiny Shaw, the NAW owner turned on Shawn and aligned herself with Dave, in a business and personal since. Dave was to hold this title fore over 4 months before he was defeated by Daniel Golding in an epic encounter. Back to EPW, Tony Clifton had left the company and Dave had found himself a new crew to hang with, which consisted of Danny English, the EPW champ, Kieran O’shea and Matt Reigns. It was with Matt Reigns that Dave captured the EPW tag team titles in an outstanding Tables, ladders, chairs and cars match at Date with Destiny. EWF meanwhile had split form EPW and had established itself as a main player in the industry with such big names as Kalada, Micca T, Willie Williams, Jake Steel and they were joined by Dave, this time as himself. It was here that he captured the Trifecta title, and took his title tally to seven. Since we Last Saw Dave McIntyre he has added a 4 more titles to his Résumé. He captured the OPW Tag team title with Daniel Golding shortly after his OPW debut, and the pair never lost the title as McIntyre left OPW after a career threading injury. Over in EPW Dave captured the EPW Primetime title in an epic bout with thunder, and was also successful in defending the title in the rematch against the former EPW champion. He would eventually lose the title to former Tag team partner Matt Reigns. After the match Reigns attacked McIntyre, which brought out the returning Shawn MacKay to his defence. Tony Clifton returned a few weeks later, leading to the return of the most talked about group in history, Weapon of Choice. EWF saw Dave and his NAW crew (McIntyre, Golding, Beckett & Razor) feuding with Profits gang of thugs murder express. It was during a double steel cage war games match that Dave pinned Profit to not only capture the X Title, but put an end to Murder Express. In NAW (the fed not the stable) Dave split from his long time running buddy Maverick and turned face during a European tour, the world was in shock. On the one year anniversary of NAW at Claim for supremacy Dave emerged victorious again, capturing his second World Heavyweight title in front of his hometown crowd in Edinburgh, defeating Evsha, Maverick and Schuessler in the process. After a great return to OPW Dave picked up the groups prized possession, The World Heavyweight title, in the first ever one on one meeting between the Great Jake Steel and The Chosen One. With 12 titles in his career, you can bet he is still hungry for more gold. In may 2006, in EPW Dave won title number 13, unlucky for some, but not him, when he cashed in a television title shot and beat Dino Kang in an epic encounter. Title 14 came in a strange fashion. Dave had just joined TNA, when he was used as a last minute substitute in the 3 stages of fanboard hell match, pitting 3 TNA members and 3 Fanbaord members against each other for the ultimate prize, the TNA/FB undisputed title. Dave beat off legends like Mr. Pink, Lockness and more, to capture the title. The very next week however Dave turned his back on TNA, and jumped to Fanboard. Number 15 came in Dave’s only venture into MMA, as he took to the octagon in 7CF, Dave took their world title in his first night in the federation, as he beat his old foe profit in a shoot fight lasting more than 40 minutes. Title 16 was the big one, the one he had chased for all his life, the EPW World title. Dave captured the title from his old friend Jake steel in an emotional match, to become the first man ever to capture the EPW grand slam. Now in the general managers position in PWO, Dave also leads heel group the establishment. Stepping only in the ring when the need arises these days, Dave has become not only a legend in the ring, but an established booker out of it. Stepping back into his active game Dave, with the urging of his good friend Jimmy Ice made his way to NBA, taking the organization by storm, capturing the US title on his very first night, and never looking back since. After a brief feud with VIP, which ended in abrupt fashion after McIntyre and Zenith dumped the cocky VIP out of the federation, Dave embarked on a major heated yet respectful rivalry with Ethan Everhart over the title. At NBA resurgence McIntyre and Everhart finally met for the title, with Dave proving on the night that despite all his detractors, he still was The Chosen One. Back over in PWO Dave dusted off his boots, and was revealed to be Chris Nielsen’s mystery partner in his tag title match against death sentence. The Establishment were victorious on the night, and Dave capped off his career in PWO, by winning his first title in his own organization. The driving rain falls in sheets, battering the tarmac below. Dave slowly winds through the morning traffic in downtown Dallas, with his long suffering wife Laura beside him. Both Dave and his wife sit in complete silence, not uttering a word, Laura gazes out of the window into the black thunder clouds forming over head, there is a veil of tension in the air and it will soon become apparent why. A word first on our location, Dallas, Texas you see is wrapped and twisted round Dave’s history, since the age of 18 it is quiet possible that Dave has spent more time in this Texas City than in his home town back in Scotland. It was here in 1991 that Dave honed his craft, it was in this very city that Dave met up with veteran south African grappler Dave Seward, and it was in this very city that Dave built himself to be the man he is today. By coincidence, or maybe not so, Dallas was also the home to the head quarters of Dave’s Powerslam Wrestling Organization, a company that he had helped build from the ground up. A company that he took from the ashes of another failed organization and moulded into one of the finest independent organizations in the world today, and a company that had consumed much of his life for the last 22 months. This is the very reason why Dave is here today. Dave pulls into the parking lot of PWO head quarters, a strange 4 story building, a mass of glass and steel and pulls into his private parking space right in front of the building, Dave sits for a few moments, with the engine still running, it is clear that The Chosen one is caught in two minds, about what is about to transpire, and he is still not 100% sure that the decision he is about to take is right, in his mind with the engine still running its not to late, he can still change his mind. Laura looks at her husband with a look of pity on her face. His wide eyes and furrowed brow give the impression of a very troubled man. She rests her hand on his leg gently as not only a way of trying to reassure her husband, but also a way of brining him out of his trance like state that he has found himself in since pulling in to his parking space. Dave turns to look at his wife, but says nothing, he rests his head in his hands for a few moments, half looking at Laura, half gazing out of the window at the sheets of rain falling around them. Laura: You ready to go? Dave says nothing but looks down at the floor, he slowly turns the keys in the ignition, bringing the purring engine to a spluttering stop. He removes the keys and slowly opens his door, stepping out into the pouring rain. Laura makes a dash for the front door off the office block, and the shelter from the rain. Dave on the other hand pauses and looks up at the office he had helped create, he is oblivious to the fact that he is getting soaked he just gazes up at the Scottish flag, that flutters and swirls in the wind beside its American and PWO cousins, struggling to stay alive in the driving rain. Dave shakes his head sadly as he puts his head down and joins his wife in the lobby of the building. The Chosen one keeps his head down as he makes his way past the reception desk on the way to the elevator to take his to his office on the 4th Floor. Dave’s eyes are trained on his feet, not acknowledging or even looking at his various personnel on the way past them. They whisper amongst themselves as Dave goes past on a walk he has done so many times before, only on this occasion it seems longer somehow Laura leads Dave into the elevator and the unmistakeable crackle of crap music fills the air. Why is it that no matter how nice the building the music in the elevator is always shit? It is not long till Dave reaches his office, where he is met by his attorney. Dave sits down at his desk and his attorney hands him a think wedge of papers to sign. Dave rests his head on his hands again and looks down at the stack in front of him. This was it, decision time. Dave was about to make what could be the biggest business decision of his life, and one that could change how the wrestling world was shaped forever. Dave looks up from his desk and takes a few moments to look around at the cluttered walls. All around Dave’s office hang memories of a brilliant career. From titles to magazine covers. From picture of his great accomplishments to articles from the crowning achievements of PWO. This office is his safe haven, and like Ali Baba’s cave it is filled with treasure. Although theses treasures are not ones that you can spend, oh no, theses treasures are years of wrestling history all under one roof. Dave looks at his record of achievement, then looks down at the papers on his desk. Dave looks back at the walls again, then back at the papers on his desk. It is clear that the chosen one is torn between two worlds and knows not to which one he belongs. McIntyre: If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings -- nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -- Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And -- which is more -- you'll be a Man, my son! Those were the some of the words Rudyard Kipling's inspirational poem If, which first came to print in 1909, and since that day the words of the famous author have been inspiring men and women all round the world. Today that is exactly what I am seeking, inspiration, guidance and courage. You see these paper that sit on this desk in front of me? This is a contract, confirming the sale of my beloved PWO, and relinquishing all the power I have over the product, all it is waiting for is my signature, and then after nearly two years at the helm I will turn over my baby to another man. The only experience I can liken this to would be parents giving away there child for adoption. I was there since the beginning. The very first Disorder card? Look at it, there in black and white for the rest of History is the name Dave McIntyre. No other current PWO superstar can make that claim, no one! So I saw my baby being born, and watched like a loving parent as my small child began to grow, and my little bundle of joy was growing at some rate, looking back at it now two years down the line, if you look at the roster it’s a who’s who of our business! Guys like Tony Cliffton, JM Hardy, Maverick, Damian, Jay St Clair, Jimmy Ice, Daniel Golding and hell even a Dave McIntyre, that’s a mighty impressive roster when you consider that people had written us off before we had even begun, we were given 2 months as the most before people thought we would die. Dave smirks McIntyre: Guess we proved them wrong! Anyway, I am sure the question on everyone’s lips is, why if I love it so much am I ready to give it up? I can answer that question with one word……greatness! You see as great as PWO is, it has taken up mammoth amounts of my time and energy, and as a result I have let myself become the sacrifice. Go back two years, before PWO emerged and look at some of my promos from back then, look at some of my matches from back the. Now compare them to what I have become. Dave gets up from his desk and begins to slowly wander round the room, getting a closer look at the pictures that make an accurate timeline of is past. He pauses beside a picture of himself just after winning his first NAW world title. McIntyre: This man in this picture, he sees like a million miles away from the man I have become. I have allowed myself get so distracted by the running of PWO that I have forgotten my first passion, competing, winning matches and taking the gold. Back in my day I was almost unbeatable, theses days I seem to struggle to keep myself above mediocre. Oh sure, once in a while you will get to see flashes of brilliance a glimpse of the old me, but I have to face facts. Dave comes across a picture of him with his friend Jimmy Ice in an ECWF ring. McIntyre: I have become little more than a midcareer, playing lackey or sidekick to men that during my peak wouldn’t have been able to touch me, and I mean no offence to anyone, but it’s the truth, seldom few could match up to me. Dave perches on the corner of his desk and runs his hand through his hair. As Laura starts packing all Dave’s memories away into boxes ready to take home. McIntyre: So my friends, this has what it has come down to, In order to be great once more I have to get me focus back to where it belongs, and that’s what I do inside the ring. Ethan, I know you have seen what I do, and I’m sure biased on current performance’s you think that this one is yours for the taking, you have this in the bag. And lets face it, why shouldn’t you, any man that can hang with Jimmy Ice and Craig Lovecraft has the right to feel supremely confident about there abilities, you may have the right to think that stepping into the ring with me will be a foregone conclusion, biased on my below par performances that the world has seen recently. Dave leans forward and grins wickedly as Laura takes the boxes down to the car with the help of a porter. McIntyre: But rest assured the world is about to see a whole different chosen one…..not a new chosen one…..but the chosen one of old! And Ethan old pal, when you look up at me from your back, and you are squinting through the glare of the lights as the referee raises my hand, try to remember on thing….. Its Just Business! Dave turns to sign the papers before handing them back to his attorney. He walks towards the door, pausing for one moment to look back over his shoulder to what, for 2 years, was his world. He takes a deep breath and pulls shut the door, leaving the camera to fade out on the plaque on the door. DAVE MCINTYRE PWO PRESIDENT ~end~ |
