Main Information
Name: Bruce Elliot Tanen
Nickname: E, Tanen (mainly at work), The Bruce
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Birthday: March 27
Year: 9th
Blood: Muggle
Wand: Ten inches of Black Ironwood with an eagle feather and a wolf's fang core.
Previous School: American School of Paris & EPITA, Graduate School of Computer Science and Advanced Technologies
Major/s: Double Degree - Architecture
Minor: - -

Physical Description:
Height: 5’9”1/2
Build: Although he’s always been small and bit scrawny, loosing a bet with Alain has led to him working out like he’s never done before, resulting with a buffer upper body. After the attention he received from girls, he only continued, gaining a bit more mass throughout his body, though he tries to maintain a leaner build insisting he doesn’t want to look like a miniaturized pet wrestler.
Hair: Black and curly, and after many years of unruly hair, he maintains the cut close to his scalp now.
Eyes: Greenish hazel, though in some lighting they must seem darker than why they actually are.
Accent: Eastern American, mainly New Yorken, though after years of living in Paris, it has slight French slang influences.
Ethnicity: Amercian, specifically from Queens, New York
Other: Bruce has a mixed sense for fashion, but when it comes down to it, it really all boils to practicality. The law of the land is if it smells clean, looks it and represents his particular state of mood, then it’s wearable for the general public. Although he is a bit fond of his fine tailored suits maintained all the way in the back of the closet (gifts from his best friend), he does prefer comfort over brilliance, especially if it’s going to be a long day ahead. Aside from t-shirts with smart-ass catch phrases, he loves hoodies the most out of any other piece of clothing, always either wearing one or having it at hand.

There are three scars on his body that are the most noticeable of all. The smallest, less obvious one is at the side of his right temple that extends from his eye to mid cheek. Second one is on the inside his lower left arm, a deeper, but cleaner gash that covers from his wrist to nearly up his elbow. And lastly, the third one, the most noticeable and visually unpleasant scar is on his right hip at a slopped angle that extends from upper hip bone to the mid of V cut lower on his abdomen. At the time it had been the worst cut, and unfortunately, it had gotten infected, the skin around it healing blotched and bruised. If asked, Bruce will relay a story of a biking accident, but what he doesn’t remember is that he had actually gotten them the day his father died.

As far as piercings, he’s got none, not particularly fond on of them on him, but he does have several tattoos. The first tattoo he ever got was when he was thirteen and forced into a gang. It was blotchy and horrible to the say the least, why when he was fifteen and in Paris, he made a tribal design to cover it, and that tat is located on the left side of his chest. Shortly after that, as he got into the business of cab driving, he put his father’s identification number on the inside of his right wrist, a memory of him that Bruce still couldn’t let go. When he turned eighteen, him and Alain went to get tattoos together, Alain getting a toxic symbol around his navel and Bruce getting a archangel on right shoulder blade.

Psychological
Personality: Adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic and full of energy are among the traits that define Bruce. He is a pioneer both in thought and action, very open to new ideas, a lover of freedom in many ways. He welcomes challenges and will not be diverted from his purpose except by his own impatience, which will surface if he doesn’t get quick results. Never the one to deny free reign to express himself, he knowingly carries out deliberate acts in the name of some cause that moves him, a negative effect of it being that he can sometimes unknowingly make it hard for others to relate to him, as he really is.

In personal relationships he is frank, direct and candid, making an enthusiastic and generous friend. He is liable to have a high sex drive, making a passionate but fastidious lover. There is, however, a negative side to his associations with other people, easily irritated by slowness or moderation in his companions, and although sensitive, he can ride roughshod over the sensitivities of others. He’s definitely a good friend to have in the worst of times, highly resourceful and practical, he can make lemonade out of a shit load of lemons. Although it might be hard for him to finalize decisions, jumping from one possibility to the next, his friendship is not as fickle when founded on undeniable trust. The way he sees it, no one is to be trusted until proven otherwise, Alain Seraphine probably being the only true friend he trusts and cares for as much as he does.

His nature is usually push or be pushed, with little middle ground. This can at times be objectionable to others, but he must have the freedom to act, rather then just think about it, getting pent-up tension in the process. He is a good champion of lost causes and last-ditch resistance; quick-witted but sometimes foolhardy and over optimistic, lacking thoroughness and the ability to evaluate difficulties in the undertakings into which he often rushes into impulsively. As a man easily bored, he likes challenges that will stir him into action. Very playful, he’s an avid prankster, the kind to usually tape a fairly embarrassing drunk moment and makes his friends watch it the next morning in hysterical laughter (just ask Alain).

History: Living on the streets of Queens is not all about Sunny days, warm meals and safe, eventless nights. All to the contrary actually. Which was why Maybell Sunderland found herself in a thick patch when she discovered she was pregnant with a man nearly twice her age who was still in the process of a getting a divorced finalized. In a frenzy, she had practically forced Lou Tanen to move in with her and help support the baby that soon came in the early morning of March 27. Weighing at seven pounds and eight ounces, Bruce Elliot Tanen was born healthy and strong, at least one good outcome from the life Maybell was quickly learning to regret. It wasn’t glorious nor glamorous for Maybell, Lou being the only source of income in the house, and with only a Taxi driver’s salary at that, but having Bruce to look after made a facing every day a little more bearable and worth the struggle.

It wasn’t long before Bruce showed interest in mechanics, accompanying his father often to the mechanics shop as early as five years old. By the time he turned eight, he was able to understand and tinker around with a certain amount of fairness that helped out around the shop. It was during this time as well that Maybell began working odd shifts at a local diner, leaving Lou to take his son on the cab with him while he worked. It wasn’t that bad, as he soon found that clients were more inclined to tip generously when Bruce was present in the cab, and always having been a rather talktative and sociable boy, they even got a little entertainment from it. One disgruntled man didn’t think so however, when in a fit of unexplainable rage, he assaulted Lou, dragging him out of the cab despite a boy’s wailing cries, and setting a mallet to his head, killing him instantly. It wasn’t until cops arrived to the scene that they found Bruce in a catatonic like state hiding under the dashboard of the passenger’s seat. Later the diagnosis was confirmed and after weeks of trying to get through to him, Maybell had given up, feeling as though she had lost them both that fateful day.

However, it was only about a month after when she had woken up to Bruce sitting in the kitchen, feet dangling from where he sat, looking as jovial as he usually did in the mornings, but Maybell’s relief was short lived when he asked where his father was. After a couple of talks with a friend who had studied psychology, it was verified that under the sudden shock of the tragedy, in order to regain some functionality and go back to normal, his mind had oppressed all memory of the incident. Going against her friends wishes and professional advice, he decided that it was better for her son to remain in the dark about what happened, choosing a made up story of having divorced him and Lou moving out to live in some city in Asia as the explanation of why Bruce no longer saw his father. Although heart broken, it was only a year after that she found Barry Mason, a dead beat cop, with an affinity for blacksmithery, and within a span of months, they were officially married.

Mason was an overall nice guy, very good to both Maybell and Bruce despite his slightly alcoholic tendencies that he did well by keeping away from the front lines of home. It was a situation of a ‘good guy in bad company’, finding himself giving in to the pressures of political hierarchy in the worst neighborhoods of Queens, taking bribes to look the other way and keep his family safe. Apparently, it wasn’t enough as a teenage turning Bruce was often bullied and harassed, soon after turning thirteen being forced to join a gang. Upon initiation, he was giving his first tattoo; a home made, badly inked drawing of the gang’s logo on his chest above his heart. Upon hearing of her son’s actions, Maybell was horrified, keen on finding any way out that didn’t involve neither her son’s or husbands necks on the line. With much persistence, she soon learned of an exchange program that offered scholarships to ‘remarkable minds of the new generation’ to various schools in Europe. Wherever he would land, it wasn’t Queens in the very least, and that was what had her driving Bruce on an early Saturday morning to a assessment test, that as she hoped, he aced.

On the fall of that year, Bruce was moving into a dorm house provided by the scholarship program, starting a fresh new year in an advanced grade in the American School of Paris. He was able to adapt to the Parisian life style faster than he had expected, his ability kicking in and allowing him to learn fast amounts about Paris, its inhabitants and culture. Nevertheless, without nearly as many distractions as back home, he took his studies very seriously. Before he knew it, he was bumping grades, maximizing his full potential and in only a few short years, he was graduating with honors. Right after, at fifteen, he earned another scholarship to EPITA, Graduate School of Computer Science and Advanced Technologies and there he met one of the very famous Seraphine siblings; Alain Seraphine. Both having been coined prodigies, they were often teamed together and the connection was instant, finding they had many things in common, as well as ideas and designs. Together they worked tirelessly on work for the school, as well as their own pet projects that would lead to some of the most amazing and advanced new technologies that haven't even been brought to light yet, having agreed on creating a company of their own and having it flourish under those concepts. However, when it came to working the college years, he turned down all offers from major companies, absolutely detesting office politics and instead found much joy becoming a cab driver as soon as he got his license.

After graduation and with Alain off in military school, Bruce concentrated on working and enjoying Paris as a regular guy rather than just a college student. When Alain told him about having joined a fight club, Bruce followed, though he mainly worked from the other side, collecting bets and money. They had set up an account together in to which they would put all their earnings for their future enterprise. There were a couple of months he took off back home to Queens, staying with his mother and step dad for while having missed them much through his schooling years. Not having planned going to school again, he was surprised to get a call from his best friend who apparently had enrolled in a magical University and that he would start the next term year. Sold on the mere idea of a magical University, Bruce intensely played catch up at home so that he could ace his scoring exams to get into the University, which he did, and where he is now, trying not to get into trouble...or, well sort of.

Family:
Maybell Sunderland: She is easily the most important woman in his life, the main figure who has always been there even in the darkest of times. His mother's final word is law and he takes her advices most often than not with a humble ear. Yeah, yeah, he's a Momma's boy.
Barry Mason: Although their connection is not by blood, Bruce still admires him very much, calling him father rather than just Barry or stepdad, and is indeed how he usually introduces Barry to friends and strangers. Bruce's promise to Barry long ago for all the support and more importantly for the love of his mother, was to free him of his entangling job one day, not having to depend on check to check anymore.
Lou Tanen: Although memories of his father aren't as abundant as he wishes sometimes, nearly all of them are fond and warm, some of his most cherished memories. There are times when he realizes, going through photographs and videos, just how close they were and it's in these moments when he finds it rather hard to believe that his father could have ever walked out on them. Having no memory of the incident however, he can only go by what his mother tell hims, though he always hopes to one day run into him again.

Miscellaneous
Pet: A rat he found in his Taxi one day, which he discovered upon taking him to a pet store was just a baby. Having shown affection towards Bruce from the start, he decided to keep the little guy and call him ‘Chuckles’, a name he thought cute since one of the noises he made sounded like a kid’s chuckle.
Knowledge/Talents: A keen sense of direction would be an understatement with Bruce, and it was an ability he had even before his power had even kicked in, able to pull in and out of any tight space or alley or traffic.

Obsessed with mechanics, he can build an engine into practically anything and once he found the similarities between bending metal and engineering, he pursued in the interests of blacksmithery with his step father Barry. Although he is still learning, he had become quite apt with it, even teaching Alain a bit here and there.
Magical Weaknesses: Basically everything, since he mainly sped studied most of the subjects, however he does seem to excell in Arithmancy and potions.
Special Ability: Technopathy – the ability to manipulate technology, manifested as a special form of electrical/telekinetic manipulation, a form of ESP even that allows for mental interface with computer data. He can actively receive and store all forms of electronic data and transmissions in his mind. He does so passively, in a manner that does not interfere with the regular transmission, and can receive electronic signals over a great distance. Bruce has an infinite storage capacity in his mind, containing every piece of information he has been exposed to. Unfortunately, this data is streamed into his mind far faster than he can accurately scan it all consciously. Though the information is present in his mind, it takes a combination of meditation, effort, and sheer willpower for him to locate and extract specific bits of info on command. With the help of Alain, together they worked on a device that would allow the fasciliation of summoning information at will by simply focusing on it, very much like a ‘search engine’ program, and that he carries in the form of a watch on his left wrist. A good example of it is the way he is able to download maps of cities from various sites and use them to his advantage as a taxi driver, as well constantly checking updates on traffic reports.

Aside from being able to read information, he can also manipulate it without a conventional computer interface and apparently has a physiological connection to surrounding information sources (such as radio waves, electronic signals, hard drives, etc.). So basically he cannot only read, but control any kind of machine, computer and interface, even the most complex. Curiously, he can also read magic, comparing it to cheat codes in video games by saying that magic is 'the cheat codes for the world'.
