Personal Information Name: Gemma Daphné Martin-Tarius. Nickname: Gem, Daph, Alice (Based off of Alice in Wonderland, given by her aunt Nora for her imaginative tendencies). Gender: Female. Age: 18. Birthday: October 7th. Blood: Half-blood. Wand: White oak, a strong wand, 7 inches long. The core holds thin slivers from the shaved shell of a sea-tortoise. Academic Information Year: 8th. Level of Study: Double Degree Area of Study: Law Secondary Area of Study: Criminology Previous Schooling: Iriys. Physical Description: Height: 5 foot 7 inches. Build: Though slender Gemma actually has a curvy figure when it comes down to it and she dislikes her natural assets, often envious of the stick-figure women in the magazines, and known to starve herself on random occasions for dances and “important dates” though she has never had a serious problem with such issues. Hair: Dirty blonde with reddish tints. It’s straight with a good deal of body, making curling it easy, though she often cannot find the time to do so. She often dyes it white-blonde. Eyes: Bright blue, and she uses an excess of mascara. Accent: New Jersey. Not exactly the low-crust of the accent that her step-family has, but a more proper speech, thanks in particular to a speech therapist from when she was young that helped her through a fairly thick lisp. Ethnicity: American. Other: With scarce limitations on the money put into her wardrobe Gemma has a very pricey closet, most of her clothes coming from high-end boutiques in Europe and almost all of her jewelry none of the faker metals that other girls could be seen wearing. Her father does not busy himself in the mindset of fashion and her aunt has no control over it thus leaving her with an expansive wardrobe that allows her to wear shirts once or twice and rarely pick them up again out of boredom. For all her father spoils her it is in her clothing that he does so most strongly, never truly saying no to her demands. She dresses in a good deal of pastels (and hardly ever black unless a strong reason demands it) and all of her clothing is strictly feminine. Never having been a tomboy she does not see the need to have clothes to “get dirty” in and the lowest she’ll go in that category is the occasional pricey pair of fashionably ripped jeans. She considers her clothing to be the way that people think of her and, as such, wishes to present herself in as pleasing a manner as possible. As a young girl Gemma was attacked by a black lab and, as such, has a very high fear of dogs in general and a four inch scar on the back of her right leg. The scar tissue, smoothed fairly over, is still pale white and visible against her tanned (done in a salon) skin. Because of this (and finding it rather appalling and ugly) she will often wear high socks or tights when paired with skirts or shorts. Make-up wise she goes subtle most of the time, mascara, lipstick, blush, etc., and she outweighs this completely with her overuse of jewelry, jangling earrings pulling her lobes down with gravity. She wears a good chunk of bracelets, necklaces and scarves and other such commonly found accessories, a new purse always at her side. Psychological Personality: “And when she was good she was very, very good. And when she was bad she was horrid.” Gemma is by no means a bad person and, by absolutely no means, a very kind person. She is quite flaky and when she decides to be a nice person can be absolutely so, considerate, sweet, kind-hearted, and touching. However such occasions are hardly as frequent as her “other” moods. These consist of a more self-centered girl with a knack for a lack of tact and a tendency to be judgmental and overly dramatic. With a rather large group of friends she only has a couple of close friends, and even then, the ties holding them together are slim. People often wish to give up on her, or grow angry and get into high school styled fights, shunning one another back and forth till no one can any longer remember the concern of the actual argument. However, in the small chances that show her good-will and true spirit of genuine care, most people accept her back without too many questions though the connection is often fairly shallow. She can be rather catty and fights with little logic, aiming below the below the belt more then often and going with cheaper varieties, often abstaining to the person’s garb, choice of trends, or cliques. Her arguments are not commonly laced with any kind of actual proof and she has been called shallow above all else. She is not crass by any means, typically staying aloof and “above it all”, even if at times she lets it break through in some kind of snappy retort. A gentle nature is absolutely underneath it all and her aunt, a woman quite close to her, often tells her father that “in time, after some hardships, she’ll grow to be quite mature and soft”. There in lies the problem as Gemma has never truly undergone any sufficient hardships of any kind. Her father, a wealthy muggle business entrepreneur, gave her everything that she could have ever wanted and, though she grew up in a single-parent home, she never knew her mother – having divorced her father at her tender age at two. Being so young the girl never grew up truly missing the woman and having a pretty face her acceptance into the social realms of high school was made smooth and easy. Over all Gemma can be incredibly superficial and has a smooth knack for falling for every “hot guy” that she stumbles upon, celebrities papering her walls and Brad Pitt her “dream”. She is an incredibly imaginative dreamer and has over twelve photo albums of her future weddings, each and every one dedicated to a different teen star. She watches television rather avidly and takes each and every date or relationship (how ever minor) as potential for some grandiose fantasy, enwrapping herself most completely into a delusional world where she’s the princess and her boyfriend is Prince Charming. Her girlfriends often mock her for her idealistic visions and, though coolly allowing them to go forth with such allegations, she often starts rumors on the ones she finds most offensive. She is very accepting of her “Queen Bee” status in her inner circle of friends and, while not entirely cruel, she definitely has no indecisiveness when it comes to taking care of herself first and foremost. Never having been forced to hold a job in her young life she has little sense of responsibility and will often endeavor upon fantastic missions or projects only to leave them half-done at the end of the day, often times others coming in to finish her work. Most people see her as bad luck to have coming on board for anything of sufficient weight, her own traits and ways often, though unintended, often messing up their serious affairs. As a smart girl (when she chooses to indulge in such facets) Gemma has often felt pushed to the side or seen as nothing more then a preppy nobody. History: Gemma was born, Gemma Daphné Martin on April 2nd at their local hospital. Her father, already an important man in society, had the best of healthcare to take care of her mother and her and, though she was born far too early and far too small, there were no significant side effects. Her mother, a woman of flakey tastes (a trait passed on to her daughter) ended up divorcing her father (for quite a nice sum) around her second birthday and, due to a pay-off from her father, Gemma has never since met the woman. Paul, her father, made the wise choice in disallowing the relationship as her mother was not the best of women, with a track record of husbands to boot. Though he still keeps up on her whereabouts Gemma does not know little of her beyond her name and general information nor, for that matter, does she particularly care. Growing up she was sent to the best of private schools, her father the wizard in the relationship with his ex-wife, and enforcing that she went to only the best of wizarding upbringing. Along with various “Richie-rich” schools she was often given a personal tutor for some of her worse off subjects, mathematics being the direst in distress. Due to such assistance she actually made good grades in school and still does, despite her tendency to let her mind wander. In middle school she began making the ranks as a girl with some standing and, not completely because of her father’s name though partially of course due to it, she made quite a stance for herself within the school. The same issue plagued her every time she switched up in schools, the fears that perhaps no one would like her well enough, or that people would be too mean or nasty or, unforgivably, not enough to satisfy her need for mutual peers. Growing up she was the girl (and still is) with walls papered in the latest celebrities and she, with absolutely no shame, often uses her good looks to attain people’s attention. She doesn’t honestly see herself as above anyone else, but doesn’t often understand people with lesser fortunes common plights. This came across one year particularly strong when she made light of one girl’s ill fortune, laughing off the loss of her family’s second property, in the simple mindset that they could simply “buy it back” or “afford another”. It turned out that, not only was the family entirely too poor to do so, but that it was not their second property but their first; utterly ashamed with herself for being so tactless Gemma redeemed her ill-spoken words by going to her father and demanding that he “fix the problem” which, upon some deliberation, the man came through and did. Knowing from a young age that she was a witch though her ability took some time to show, a fact which bothered her almost to a point of distraction and one that she hid very poorly; most of her fellow students already coming into their powers. Waiting with baited breath for whatever it was that would be granted her she did not except the possibility that she might not have one naturally, absolutely denying any such notion. Having made up her mind at the tender age of eight to be a gossip columnist for People magazine she stuck firmly to course, spreading her own varying sets of rumors and writing in a little notepad fairly everywhere she goes. When she began to look into universities, deciding eventually upon Elysion, she picked up a certain affection for work in law, after a particularly thrilling viewing of Primal Fear. Though perhaps not the sturdiest footing to decide her life on she begged her father to let her study for that, eventually gaining his acceptance. She met Radek San'ko before university, dating him on and off for some time before sweetly dismissing him. She had no time for boyfriends, was her reason, and though it wasn't exactly sound she hasn't dated much since him. Keeping in touch she often sends him little presents or nice things, and counts him as a close friend still. She has since developed a certain studiousness to the whole matter, becoming quite a bit more involved in her school life as she put more childish matters behind her. Family: Father - Paul Martin: Her father, a rich man who made it at a significantly young age, and has since climbed the business ladder is the single most important person in Gemma’s life. Her mother divorced her father around her second birthday and she never knew the woman after that, leaving her and her father to grow incredibly close. He spoils her entirely too often and, though her aunt shakes her head at his indulgences, he has a hard time reigning himself in from giving his baby girl the world. Aunt - Nora Martin: The second most important person to Gemma is her aunt, a woman who, while not a mother, often serves as a more solid line of discipline in her life. She babysat the girl as a child and now often takes the girl out on the town for “girl’s nights out”, hoping to serve as a positive force of maturity in the fictitious world that the girl can often deliver herself in. They are incredibly close and Gemma tells her everything, even the embarrassing details. Step-mother - Margaret Tarius: The connection between Gemma and her step-mother is distant. Seeing her as “the new woman” in daddy’s life the girl often causes some mayhem around the house, trying to unsettle Margaret’s transitioning into their lives. Being incredibly protective of her father she finds that most women do not meet her approval, and Margaret is the same as any other. Finding her a tad cold she does enjoy seeing her father happy and, while still being rather mean to her at times, Gemma has eased up a bit on her after their marriage truly became official. Step-sister - Jenny-Rose "Red" Tarius Jenny-Rose “Red” Tarius: The two do not get along whatsoever. Gemma finds her bossy and annoying for a girl who isn’t even her “real” sister and Red finds her to be incredibly self-centered and artificial and – to be fair – both girls’ are semi-right on their judgments. As both were quick to judge they never truly moved past the animosity of their first meeting and, while forced to often spend time with one another, often fill the air with thinly veiled criticisms and harsh condemnations. Gemma finds Red to be too low-key and Red finds her to be too pampered, Gemma disapproves of Red’s clothes (finding them trashy at best) and Red thinks Gemma dresses snotty (otherwise known as incredibly slutty). They can find little to agree on and the only thing thus far that they have, without a doubt found truth in, is that their parents should not be getting married. Step-sister - Mary-Beth Tarius: The older step-sister that Gemma doesn’t truly know much about; as the woman has her own life, and a busy one at that, the two have never truly connected though Gemma considers her to be much better at personal presentation, which scores high in her book. Clothing and style matter to the young girl and, though Mary-Beth does not think that highly of her, much for the same reasons as Red, she does not let this interfere with the hope of gaining at least one good step-sister out of the deal. Ironically Mary-Beth and Jenny-Roses’s disapproval of Gemma’s personality (though Mary-Beth is hardly so open of her thoughts) brought them closer together then anything else in the past few years. Miscellaneous Pet: She had at one point owned a pet chinchilla named Dust Mite that stayed at her father’s house back in New Jersey. It died before she came to university and, not being particularly attached to begin with, she refrained from buying anymore animals. Knowledge/Talents: Gemma is a talented pianist and has preformed in several small stage concert halls throughout her childhood. She also does some pretty skilled jump rope and, when applying herself to topics she actually enjoys, can be fairly intense in her studies. Though she is deeply invested in the fashion world she absolutely hates sewing and crocheting is her absolute vice, being forced by a nanny to do so for several years. Magical Weaknesses: On average Gemma is fairly adapt at most magical schoolwork, charms being her strongest suit, though she finds that transfiguration is one of her worst. She also has some light trouble with certain studies such as History of Magic which can only be found interesting when she can put popular people in history with faces of the latest celebrities. Special Ability: Her magical capabilities took a lengthy amount of time to show up, and did so surprisingly one day. She was at an interview for a university, giving the Professor her resume, when she found herself unable to talk. When she opened her mouth nothing came out, and the Professor continued to stare at her, questioning. It wasn't until she threw a paperweight at him that he tried to speak, also muted. Her power, essentially a mute button, like on a remote control, took some time to train, and she still has extensive issues with it. She can, if concentrating, mute specific sounds in a room, though she doesn't have much more range then that at this point, and often ends up muting the whole room out of frustration. Notes: [JT] |
