1st Year Masters Ares; History of Magic

Personal Information
Name: Caspian Tristan Visale
Nickname: Cas
Gender: Male
Age: 30 (including 7 years as a vampire)
Birthday: November 14th
Blood: Muggleborn wizard turned vampire
Wand: 12 and ¾ inches of alder wood, Jobberknoll feather core, described as being rather bendy

Academic Information
Year: 1st
Level of Study: Masters Degree
Area of Study: History of Magic
Previous Schooling: Coats Academy for Witchcraft and Wizardry (US), University of Illinois (BA in European History).

Physical Description:
Height: At 6’1” he’s quite tall, and he can be more than a little intimidating when he wants to be.
Build: Medium build with more muscle mass than on average, due to a focus on sports and fitness when he was alive, and messing around with his abilities (especially speed) after he was turned. With his height, he seems longer and leaner than he actually is.
Hair: Long-ish dark brown hair, with a bit of a wave to it, but not enough to call it curly. The concept of brushing his hair has been replaced by running his fingers through it, so upkeep clearly isn’t on his mind. He also prefers to wear a little facial hair, little more than a bit of dark stubble on his face.
Eyes: Dark brown, nearing black when he gets angry, and almond shaped. Caspian has very intense eyes, ones that focus with a strong intensity. They were slightly sunken into his face before his turning, and becoming a vampire has only intensified this. During the daytime they are nearly always covered by a pair of sunglasses, to protect them from the harsh sunlight.
Accent: American (leaning towards Pacific Northwest dialect)
Ethnicity: American/Spanish
Other: Given his mixed heritage, Caspian isn’t quite as pale as your average vampire. He has kept some of his colour from when he was alive, and this has served him quite well. His paleness as a vampire is hardly noticeable if he feeds often, and he much prefers this to an unnaturally pale look. He does still have the typical vampire look of gauntness, emphasising his sunken in eyes and high cheekbones. Caspian’s sense of style is completely all over the place, and his wardrobe is huge. Some days he’ll feel the thing to wear is a three piece suit, and the next day it might be sweatpants and a hoodie. Some days he’ll dress like he was turned two hundred years ago and never learned to change styles, and the next he’ll be in the latest hipster trend. Caspian was tattoo free when he was turned, but has since gotten a tattoo; one to match his brother’s when he got his, although not to the same degree. Rather than the full Callisto crest, Caspian simply has the words “Audaces fortuna juvat” meaning ‘Fortune favours the bold’ in Latin across the backs of his shoulder blades.

Psychological
Personality: Caspian is a curious person, always looking for an answer. He is especially detailed orientated, which doesn’t make for a good listener, especially when hearing stories. Interruptions aren’t something that he finds rude or annoying, at least not when he’s the one making them; he’ll often interrupt other people for seemingly unnecessary details. This can annoy people of course, but if it annoys them too much, then their story isn’t worth him listening to. Naturally, this curiosity extends towards people too. Caspian is not the most empathic and knowledgeable about people, he tends to slit them into categories in his mind in order to figure them out. But if they keep quiet, never open up, he can’t categorise them, and he gets annoyed. In that situation, he’ll do whatever it takes to get someone to open up, and unless they’re interesting, promptly dismiss them. In finding out how best to categorise them, Caspian can get a little weird, to say the least. He isn’t above playing to the masses; playing the evil vampire, the over-protective older brother, even something way outside his comfort zone like a shy bookworm, to get what he wants out of people.

Caspian can be an extremely possessive person, territorial over both possessions and people. When push comes to shove, and someone is trying something on something or someone he considers his without his consent, he isn’t above becoming violent[/b], due in part to vampiric nature. He can be more than a little scary in that respect. Caspian is easily bored, and if something doesn’t interest him very soon after looking into it, he will dismiss it and never return to it again. If he can find a way, any way, to avoid doing something he hates, he will. That explains his dislike of practical magic, and why he avoids even doing simple spells that he is capable of; since he lost a lot of his magical ability, he doesn’t see the point in doing any magic. It has been tainted in his mind, so he avoids it. Caspian tends to be this way about people as well blacklisting people if they wrong him or one of his own, to the point of simply being contrary in order to try to annoy someone he doesn’t like. On a more positive note, Caspian makes a good and very honest friend to have, someone you can depend on to tell you the truth and level with you, never in a cruel way. He treats people generally well unless someone has done something to him, and is overall a friendly, social guy.

History: Caspian was born to Jonathan Visale and his wife Carmen, while the family was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. Jonathan, an officer in the US Air Force, had been stationed in Spain when he met his lovely wife, and they enjoyed a whirlwind romance. The couple moved around often, and before the age of five Caspian had lived in Japan, Laos, India, Samoa and the US. Finally, when Caspian was six and Carmen was pregnant with his little sister Lucy, the couple settled down in Spokane, Washington in the United States. Jonathan enjoyed a permanent position manning the Fairchild Air Force Base not far from where they lived. Growing up, Caspian wasn’t aware of his magical ability, and why things sometimes went wrong around him. Neither of his parents were magical, which resulted in Caspian getting told off for misbehaving and him not understanding what he had done wrong. This is most likely where many of the problems between Caspian and his father started.

Although unusual things happened around the house, especially when Caspian and his little sister Lucy were together, everyone was very surprised when a letter came accepting him to a magical institution nearby. The fact that Caspian was a wizard was a great surprise, and not always a good one in the Visale house, but Caspian happily enough went off to Coats Academy for Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he found that his fondness of school from younger years hadn’t really been added to at all, and he was a good, though somewhat disruptive student. History of Magic was by far his favourite subject, though in ones he didn’t like, Caspian tended to talk a lot. This resulted in quite a few discipline problems that his father wasn’t fond of, especially since he wanted his son to join the Air Force after him. As he got further into his adolescent years, Caspian and his father started arguing more and more, especially over his future. His summer months were spent doing whatever sports he could get his hands in, just to keep himself out of the house.

Caspian was very happy with his magical education, but thought that his love of history would be better served by a muggle university. He headed off to the University of Illinois, where four years later he earned a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in European History. The four years were mainly uneventful for Caspian; for the most part, he simply went through the normal motions of a man in his early 20s, having lots of fun between classes, and learning the intricacies of beer pong and ultimate Frisbee. After his graduation Caspian made it clear to his father that he had no intention of studying any further; he had gone to university, but it had never been his favourite thing to do, and the idea of doing something like going to law school, or doing some other professional degree, sent shivers down his spine. Instead, Caspian was intent on living his life; he spent the next year moving around to various cities in America, stopping whenever something looked interesting and working whatever odd jobs he could. Although he basically lived out of his car for a year, it was some of the best times of his life.

It was some sixteen months after he had first started going around America that Caspian found himself in a bar in Las Vegas, far off The Strip. The small, seedy bar seemed like a good idea at the time, but the night didn’t turn out like he had expected. Two men managed to get into a fistfight over something, Caspian never did remember what, and instinct told Caspian to get involved. He did, and got a bloody nose, black eye, and knife scrape on his chest to thank him for it. It wasn’t until another man stepped in that the fight was broken up; that man was Francis Callisto. Francis would later tell Caspian that he saw potential in him, the potential to do something more than wander around aimlessly, and that was why he offered to Caspian the opportunity to become a vampire. Always one for a new adventure, Caspian agreed, and the when he next awoke, he was a vampire. It was a difficult thing to get used to, though Caspian was quite lucky not to have the problems of bloodlust that was so hard for some unfortunates. A few accidents did happen, of course, though their deaths never really bothered Caspian as much as they perhaps should have.

Caspian followed Francis around for years, to other parts of America to different places in Europe, loving the new adventure he was on. The relationship between Francis and Caspian was slightly strained of the latter’s own making, though it eased up when a brother joined their little family, in the form of Nate. Unlike Francis, Caspian’s familial love of Nate was immediate, and after his joining Caspian felt a lot more comfortable about his family, as well as his life as a vampire. The three continued on as a little vampire unit for years afterwards, dealing with problems and arguing over humans. They were broken up a bit when Nate left to go to university; for the first time since he was turned, Caspian decided to leave Francis’ side and travelled around Europe on his own, testing his abilities and trying to find his place. He didn’t find it however, and after a while when the loneliness got too much, decided to try his hand at university with Nate; he figured that it couldn’t be any worse than it was the first time. Picking a diploma so that he and Nate could finish at roughly the same time, he attends Elysion University.

Family:
Francis Callisto: The French-Italian vampire in his hundreds (177 to be exact), he was originally a muggle but is now a vampire from being turned many ages ago, and he turned Caspian several years ago. Francis and Caspian had an uneasy relationship when he was first turned, Caspian never one figuring in for father figures, but since Nate’s arrival the two have settled into their relationship much easier, and Caspian has a lot of fondness for Francis, though nowhere near unconditional love.
Nathaniel Couhault: Caspian and Nate might not be brothers in life, but Nate is his brother as far as Cas is concerned. Nate is the one person Cas feels truly connected to, and without question he would do anything for his brother.
Jonathan Visale: Caspian’s human father, a muggle and colonel in the air force. The two didn’t get along at all when Caspian was human, constantly arguing over everything. After Caspian was turned he didn’t even bother going back to his family, and hasn’t contacted his father since.
Carmen Visale: Caspian’s human mother, a witch and homemaker. The relationship between them was a typical one between mother and son, though she was never a very good referee between him and his father. Like his father, he hasn’t contacted her since he was turned.
Lucy Visale: Caspian’s witch sister, named after Carmen’s favourite Chronicles of Narnia character, as Caspian was named after the second favourite. Though he hasn’t contacted Lucy since turning, he thought that he once saw her before leaving America for Europe, which only gave him more reason to leave.

Miscellaneous
Pet: Nate
Knowledge/Talents: Caspian is extremely fluent in English and Spanish, and can also speak passable French, learned from Francis. He has a great mind for numbers and dates, and can remember specific number sequences without much of a problem.
Magical Weaknesses: When he was turned into a vampire Caspian was ‘lucky’ enough to lose almost all of his magical ability, to the point where he just doesn’t bother anymore. He can use his wand to do spells, as long as they’re on the simple side, but generally speaking doesn’t bother to do so anymore. Before he was turned he was never much interested in wandless magical streams like potions or herbology, and hasn’t bothered with them since either.
Special Ability: Vampire, with all the usual vampire strengths and weaknesses. Caspian has unusually good senses, even for a vampire, though his physical strength leaves something to be desired. His reflexes and speed are also well above the average vampire, let alone the average human. Sunlight doesn’t bother him as much many vampires, given his age, but it does bother him more than Nate, and when outside he must always wear sunglasses to protect from the sun, even in winter. Since his turning, Caspian has lost quite a bit of his magical ability.
