10th Year Styx; International Studies & Law

Personal Information
Name: Isobel Martha Whyndam
Nickname: Izzy, Iz, Belle
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Birthday: October 4th
Blood: Half-blood
Wand: 8½ inches, chestnut wood, phoenix feather core.

Academic Information
Year: 10th
Level of Study: Undergrad
Area of Study: Diplomacy: International Studies and Law
Previous Schooling: Penrose Witches College – an all girls magical school (but linked with the all boys Flagstaff Wizarding Academy nearby so they didn’t suffer for it)

Physical Description:
Height: 5’2” – shorter than average, usually noticeably.
Build: Naturally she’s slim – very skinny but a bit bigger than her sister. She’s a very active person so she has noticeable muscle mass on her body, particularly her arms and legs. Curves are practically nonexistent – a bit of a waist (that usually has to be pointed out) and a very small chest (again, needs to be pointed out with clothes).
Hair: Brown – medium to dark brown, a little darker than her sisters. Naturally straight and it’s very rare that she’ll do anything to change it - usually only when Asha forces her to become very girly for the night and curls her hair for her. It’s relatively long, about down to her shoulder blades and usually pulled back out of her face, especially when she’s active.
Eyes: Brown – large brown doe eyes, slightly slanted to give away her part Asian heritage. They’re very dark – clearly brown and not black, but a dark brown that nearly matches her hair colour.
Accent: Australian – but she’s able to mimic the accents of people she hears pretty well generally, so for fun she sometimes plays around with using different accents.
Ethnicity: Mostly Caucasian with some Asian - Australian
Other: Naturally her skin is very pale – though she spends a lot of time active and in the sun, so she tans a little during the summer months to a darker colour – ironically closer to her fathers colouring than her naturally pale mother. She has a round face, the only place where her baby fat hasn’t been worked off by exercise or age. Her movements are generally very – surprisingly – graceful, more from her quidditch training than from any natural grace she might have. Though she and Asha are identical, she has a birthmark on the back of her right wrist that Asha doesn’t have, and a couple scratches and scars on her arms and one on her knee from old quidditch and sport injuries.

People have often called her the tomboyish twin, but Isobel absolutely hates that term – while she isn’t as girly as Asha, and while she loves sport of all kinds, she’s by no means a tomboy. Her wardrobe changes – drastically – to whatever is appropriate – yes, when lounging around or working out she’ll most likely be found in sweats or jeans, with a simple tee shirt. When she’s going out she tends to stray towards pants (though she isn’t convinced that that’s just because Asha tends towards skirts and people need to be able to tell the two apart) and a nice – usually very flowy and girly – top. Colour wise she’s all over the place, blues and pinks being worn equally – as long as it fits well and looks good, she’ll wear it.

Psychological
Personality: When talking about Isobel’s personality comparisons and similarities between herself and her twin sister are going to come up. There isn’t a clear distinction between the two of them – there isn’t one girly one and one tomboy, there isn’t one shy and one outgoing one, there isn’t one selfish and one selfless one. It isn’t as clear cut as that – which is almost definitely in part at least due to the fact that she has a very close nit family, her parents and aunt being closer in age than most normally are, always around a lot of people willing to look after her – and even spoil her.

So what can be said about Isobel? Well she’s probably more down to earth and level headed than her sister, in the fact that while her sister is the ideas girl, Isobel is the one who asks the questions about how it will work and helps Asha find a good answer – they play off each other very well. In a lot of ways Isobel is Asha’s right hand woman, her twin being the crazy plotter but Isobel always more than willing to go along with the plan and do whatever she can to get the work done – she’s the practical one.

Very optimistic is a good way to describe her, always seeing the glass half full. Isobel’s very open, with a lot of empathy for people as well. In a lot of ways she’s a lot nicer than Asha is – she’s the kind of person to try to work through problems, not just cut them down. She likes to believe the best about people, always believing that they can change if they really want to. That doesn’t make her any less stubborn though – she will firmly fight for someone if she believes in them, no matter what anyone else thinks. Actually, she will fight for whatever she thinks is right, no matter what anyone else thinks – she isn’t going to stand down for anyone, not if she really believes in the cause. When someone’s gone against her she loses her happy, bright shell and can become as cold as her aunt.

The question of whether or not she’s girly is a bit hard to answer. Isobel is definitely sports mad, everything from wizard sports like quidditch to muggle sports like footy (Aussie rules or AFL) and her personal favourite of soccer (which she will never, ever call football no matter how many Europeans insist on it). She absolutely immerses herself in the sports world and is the kind of person that can quote any and every statistic you might need to know. This kind of dedication is seen in her majors as well – she speaks multiple languages and quotes law cases with the best of them.

On the other hand, she can be incredibly girly as well. She’s very romantic, very much a little girl believing in the happily ever after ending – despite the fact that it didn’t really work all that well for her parents. When in a relationship she’s going to be one of a couple that’s almost too sweet and lovey dovey to bare, and always puts a lot of effort into her dates.

Isobel is a mixture of everything, odd things from here and there that only really make sense when put together with her sister.

History: It goes without saying that Isobel was not planned – and if truth be told not wanted by her parents. Yvette Nightingale was only fourteen when she found out that she was pregnant, and her boyfriend of nine months Jake was only sixteen at the time – not old enough to be parents. The Nightingale (née Malone) family was a force to be reckoned with in Australia, in which they lived, and though they briefly flirted with the idea of simply getting rid of Jake, that wasn’t the best idea for any of them – instead Yvette’s parents forced the two to marry. Yvette had what turned out to be two baby girls, identical twins, not long after her fifteenth birthday.

And so two beautiful girls, Asha Tamara (the older by eleven minutes) and Isobel Martha were brought into the world to two parents who weren’t out of childhood themselves. With rather a lot of help from their families, the two raised the girls in a somewhat happy marriage for the better part of three years. It was about this time – when Yvette was coming of age and expected to become a bigger part of the business, as was tradition for the women in their family, that the problems began. Fights started – and although Yvette was definitely a push over in most aspects, her daughters was something that she wouldn’t bend on, never backing down whenever they came into it. Although they tried, for the sake of their families, the marriage didn’t work – it ended just five years after it started, when Yvette was just 20 and the twins were just five years old.

After that Jake left, and Isobel and Asha didn’t know much of their father – they still kept their father’s name, knowing that it could always be changed it if need be for the family tradition. They were raised by their mother and their mothers family – particularly the women who had always been the strong ones in the family, a force to be reckoned with. This was a fact that the girls were extremely happy with – while their Nana thought that it would have been absolutely adorable to dress them in matching outfits, Yvette had more sense than that and always dressed them differently, letting them choose their own outfits as soon as they were old enough. The fist children since Yvette was born, the twins were pampered and spoiled by the entire family as children, always well protected and looked after. They grew up with a strong sense of family and a vast knowledge of both the muggle and wizarding worlds (and the world of the underground) because of their family background.

They were privately taught by personal family tutors when they were younger – learning whatever they would need to to survive in any of the three worlds the family was involved in, but eventually they would have to go to magical school. Not just any magical school would do, either – they went to the prestigious all-girls private (non-boarding) school in the city of Melbourne, Penrose Witches College. The all girls school wasn’t really an idea that the women in the family liked, but it was closely linked with the Flagstaff Wizarding Academy and the girls didn’t grow up without a good knowledge of boys.

Life at school wasn’t too bad for the girls – they got to interact with a lot more students than they ever had before, being very sheltered for the early years of their life. The two stuck by each other of course – and first found the annoyance of people not knowing which twin was which, something they had only encountered with new bodyguards before then. A few close friends were chosen – as well as a couple of boyfriends on Isobel’s but never Asha’s side – and they quickly rose to become the unspoken leaders of the school. They had a natural charisma about them that compelled people to listen, and along with their large doe eyes to fool teachers into thinking them innocent, they were practically running the school by the time they were in their fifth year.

Though Asha experienced the pressure of their family’s legacy, Isobel was one who experienced the legacy of their mother personally. Asha had never shown much of an interest in boys (or girls) romantically, whereas Isobel was the one who dated regularly and even had her a couple serious boyfriends or two. The fact that her mother – who had also attended Penrose not too long before the girls did – had gotten pregnant while still at school wasn’t anything that was ever hid, and many people in the school knew about it. She often got digs about it, especially when seen with one of her boyfriends – cracks about how she was going to follow in her mother’s footsteps, get pregnant herself. It hurt more than she ever let on – but that’s the good thing about having a twin, Asha was more than willing to step in and let everyone know that if they continued doing what they were doing, treating Isobel like they were then there would be consequences. No one really bothered her much after that.

Especially since after one of the lead bullies – a girl by the name of Krys – had a very strange dream. It was the year before that Asha had discovered her ability, when she was fourteen – accidentally stumbling into one of Isobel’s dream. It took her a while, with the right people around her to understand what it was – Asha had the ability to dream walk. A few comments about Krys’s dreams, told in uncanny detail and she wasn’t annoying Isobel anymore.

While Asha’s ability had shown itself when she was about fourteen, a lot earlier, Isobel’s didn’t show itself until she was in her second to last year at Penrose – again quite by accident. Done one night, she had been deep asleep and suddenly woken by a loud noise. Deciding to inspect it, she had gotten up and found the source – nothing more than the changing of the shifts of the bodyguards, and went back to bed after getting a glass of water only to find that she was still in her bed! A loud scream awoke the house – and they entered Isobel’s room to find two of her. At first they were confused about why she was screaming – that was until Asha showed up, tired and wondering what was wrong and they realised that there was three girls. Though Isobel received her ability later, she was the one who had better control, and more use for her ability.

Brendan Landon had always been known to the family – his father before him had worked for the family just as he was doing, and a favourite of the girls because of his ability to always tell which one was which, even when they were actually trying to trick him. When they found out that their mother and he were dating – they found out in their sixth year though it had likely been going on for a while before that – they couldn’t have been happier. The two married in their seventh and final year at Penrose, bringing the twins two older step-brothers, Joshua and Mitchell.

It was also about this time that their aunt Dita, who had recently taken up as the head of the family business, had decided to expand their enterprise. She was going to move to Europe – and of course, a lot of the family was going to head up with them. Isobel and especially Asha were eager to head to Europe, a new part of the world with their aunt, but of course their education had to come first – the decision was made that they would head to Europe once they had graduated. Dita wasn’t looking to settle down anytime soon, and Asha was already her protégé, so heading to Europe to study – to learn about the business – made perfect sense. The ideas girl that she was, Asha chose to go into Economics and Business, where her leadership skills would come in handy – and Isobel went into International Studies and Law, in order to be able to get her sister out of trouble when she needs it.

Family: Firstly is Isobel’s identical twin sister Asha. Their parents are Yvette Mae and Jake, no longer married – Isobel grew up with her mother and is much closer to her, trusting but tired of getting hurt by her father. Her mother has remarried Brendan giving her two half-brothers – Joshua and Mitchell – the latter of whom she has a bit of a crush on. She’s especially close to her mother’s family, especially her Aunt Jezebel (aka Dita), along with her grandparents Abby (Nana) and Antonio (Pop), and great-grandmother Grandma Babs. Her father has also remarried, to a beautiful but very cunning woman named Rachael whom Isobel really does not like. They may not be family, but her bodyguard Jethro and her sister’s Rick are completely trusted by Isobel, and might as well be family.

Miscellaneous
Pet: Nope
Knowledge/Talents: Isobel’s very good at quidditch – she’s a chaser so she’s quick on her feet and with her hands, is in very good shape physically – she’s also quidditch mad and can talk about the top of the international and Australian national leagues for hours. She’s a natural with accents and can mimic those she hears very well – and she speaks multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Italian, and Chinese. She speaks some Greek, learned from going to Elysion University.
Magical Weaknesses: Her wand work is competent, but she’s not very strong with a wand – her spells are never going to be the best, and in any case, she’s not about to use them later in her life, so she doesn’t worry too much. Easy stuff she can do, more difficult spells are weak. She’s not a very creative thinker, and she’s a lot more reactive than proactive.
Special Ability: Etheric Projection – the ability to project her soul from her body in a tangible state on the physical plane. In this state, the original Isobel becomes unconscious while her soul projects into a concrete body. This power is triggered when she wants to be in two different places at once. Isobel’s astral self is identical with herself except that she doesn't have the original Isobel’s witchly powers, even when using a wand – she’s like a muggle in that regard. She knows from experience that when she gets injured in one form it doesn’t appear on the other – if she gets hurt in astral form her original form isn’t then hurt, and vice versa. It’s often confused with astral projection, but differs in the sense that Isobel projects into the physical (not astral) realm and moves about in real time, watching real people and events that are happening as their physical bodies remain asleep. While asleep her body regenerates even when her mind is still working – she only needs about three hours of ‘true’ sleep without her etheric body each night, and usually about eight hours including those three to feel fully rested. This is partly why she’s a good student – she can practice and study in her astral form when everyone else is asleep.
