Personal Information Name: Asha Tamara Whyndam Nickname: Ash Gender: Female Age: 20 Birthday: October 4 Blood: Half-blood Wand: Eight and one-half inches of mulberry wood, with a core of unicorn hair. Academic Information Year: 10th Level of Study: Undergraduate Area of Study: Business Management (Economics and Business) Previous Schooling: The all girls Penrose Witches College Physical Description: Height: Just over 5’1”, and she absolutely hates being that short. Build: Slim, and considering the fact that she doesn’t do much physical activity she doesn’t have much muscle mass on her either. When she was a few years younger Asha often got accused of having some sort of eating disorder, though it wasn’t ever true; she has since grown into her body a little better, gaining a little weight to dispel the rumours, though she is still rather thin. Hair: Medium to dark brown hair, on the former side because of the highlights and lowlights Asha likes to have added to her hair. While naturally it’s very straight, almost dead straight, it’s rare for Asha to choose to wear it in that way; one day it might be lightly curled and tousled, the next done in ringlets, whatever fits the mood and the amount of time she has to do. Eyes: Asha’s eyes are a darker brown than her hair, similar to the colour of dark chocolate. Most of the time they seem to glimmer, a special light within them showing mischief. They’re a little on the large side, and the only thing that gives away her Asian heritage, slightly slanted as were her fathers. Asha was also fortunate enough to be lovely long eyelashes, though that doesn’t stop her from wearing mascara, and indeed eye make up every day. Accent: Australian Ethnicity: Three-quarters Caucasian, one-quarter Asian Other: Slim built and short, with her pale skin and dark features Asha is often likened to a porcelain doll. The fact that she is the kind of girl who enjoys always being perfectly made up simply adds to the thought; never a hair out of place, unless you can get her on one of her off days, perfectly manicured nails with a good eye for fashion. She knows just how to show off her features; a round face, high cheekbones and large brown eyes are all manipulated with make up to show her very best side. Clothes are quite similar; always beautiful and trendsetting, although this latter point has resulted in quite a few unusual outfits. She loves layers, often going that one step too far into the over the top range, but when she does get it right the result is often stunning. Colours are a must, she loves things being bright and almost everything about her look screams ‘look at me’. Psychological Personality: Cunning, sly, creative and opportunistic. Not all about Asha is bad of course, but if anyone were to ask her to describe herself, after the word ‘twin’ that is what would follow. What Asha lacks in natural intelligence and practical application she more than makes up for in a creative mind, along with a business savvy that isn’t too surprising once people take her family into account. She is an ideas woman, the kind of person to come up with all kinds of crazy schemes, often ones that have no chance at all of working. Getting from the original idea to something that might actually work requires her to play off Isobel until she gets to something that’s workable. The business world seems like the perfect place to put all of her ideas into practice, as long as she has Isobel the future lawyer by her side. A naturally judgemental person, Asha’s stubbornness coming through in her unwillingness to change her idea of anyone. Once she decides something she will stick to it to the end; sometimes this can be good, and sometimes, especially when regarding other people and her ideas of them, it can be bad. This is especially true considering she absolutely hates being proved wrong, and will do anything and everything she can to stop that from happening. This is often where she gets a little manipulative, though she’s too inexperienced to be able to manipulate many; often people will see through her large doe eyes, especially if they know her well before hand. She has often been said to be too young to really understand the consequences of a lot of her actions, and this is for the most part true; there are some things, the more practical side she understands better from seeing how things are done in her family, but on a personal, emotional level she often doesn’t understand why people might look at her badly after she has used them for her own means. She is slowly coming to understand that people might be annoyed at her for all her favours; on the other hand however, if you’re a friend of hers she will do anything and everything she can do help you whenever you might need it, so in her mind at least it balances out. Asha is extremely protective of her entire family and her friends, though especially her sister. While some might say that she’s the dominant twin Asha wouldn’t believe that at all; her sister is her backbone, and it is only together that Asha has half the strength and confidence that she has. There isn’t much that will make the confident and outgoing girl back down, but her blunt and nearly tactless attitude can often get on people’s nerves, especially long term. Authority is a bit of a problem for this as well, considering they are lumped into the same group as everyone else; often she will get into trouble with authority not necessarily for doing anything in the first place, but for making smart arsed observations and never backing down, talking back to her professors in a way that is not at all respectful or appropriate. History: It goes without saying that Isobel was not planned; and if truth be told not wanted by her parents. Yvette Nightingale was only fourteen when she found out that she was pregnant, and her boyfriend of nine months Jake was only sixteen at the time; not old enough to be parents. The Nightingale (née Malone) family was a force to be reckoned with in Australia, in which they lived, and though they briefly flirted with the idea of simply getting rid of Jake, that wasn’t the best idea for any of them; instead Yvette’s parents forced the two to marry. Yvette had what turned out to be two baby girls, identical twins, not long after her fifteenth birthday. And so two beautiful girls, Asha Tamara (the older by eleven minutes) and Isobel Martha were brought into the world to two parents who weren’t out of childhood themselves. With rather a lot of help from their families, the two raised the girls in a somewhat happy marriage for the better part of three years. It was about this time; when Yvette was coming of age and expected to become a bigger part of the business, as was tradition for the women in their family, that the problems began. Fights started, and although Yvette was definitely a push over in most aspects, her daughters was something that she wouldn’t ever back down on. Although they tried, for the sake of their families, the marriage didn’t work; it ended just five years after it started, when Yvette was just 20 and the twins were just five years old. After that Jake left, and Isobel and Asha didn’t know much of their father; they still kept their father’s name, knowing that it could always be changed it if need be for the family tradition. They were raised by their mother and their mothers family, particularly the women who had always been the strong ones in the family, a force to be reckoned with. This was a fact that the girls were extremely happy with; while their Nana thought that it would have been absolutely adorable to dress them in matching outfits, Yvette had more sense than that and always dressed them differently, letting them choose their own outfits as soon as they were old enough. The fist children since Yvette was born, the twins were pampered and spoiled by the entire family as children, always well protected and looked after. They grew up with a strong sense of family and a vast knowledge of both the muggle and wizarding worlds (and the world of the underground) because of their family background. They were privately taught by personal family tutors when they were younger – learning whatever they would need to survive in any of the three worlds the family was involved in, but eventually they would have to go to magical school. Not just any magical school would do, either – they went to the prestigious all-girls private (non-boarding) school in the city of Melbourne, Penrose Witches College. The all girls’ school wasn’t really an idea that the women in the family liked, but it was closely linked with the Flagstaff Wizarding Academy and the girls didn’t grow up without a good knowledge of boys. Life at school wasn’t too bad for the girls; they got to interact with a lot more students than they ever had before, being very sheltered for the early years of their life. The two stuck by each other of course, and first found the annoyance of people not knowing which twin was which, something they had only encountered with new bodyguards before then. A few close friends were chosen, as well as a couple of boyfriends on Isobel’s but never Asha’s side; they quickly rose to become the unspoken leaders of the school. They had a natural charisma about them that compelled people to listen, and along with their large doe eyes to fool teachers into thinking them innocent, they were practically running the school by the time they were in their fifth year. Though Asha experienced the pressure of their family’s legacy, Isobel was one who experienced the legacy of their mother personally. Asha had never shown much of an interest in boys (or girls) romantically, whereas Isobel was the one who dated regularly and even had her a couple serious boyfriends or two. The fact that her mother, who had also attended Penrose not too long before the girls did had gotten pregnant while still at school wasn’t anything that was ever hid, and many people in the school knew about it. She often got digs about it, especially when seen with one of her boyfriends; cracks about how she was going to follow in her mother’s footsteps, get pregnant herself. It hurt more than she ever let on, but that’s the good thing about having a twin, Asha was more than willing to step in and let everyone know that if they continued doing what they were doing, treating Isobel like they were then there would be consequences. There could have been many things that Asha could have done to get to people, but she preferred the subterfuge. It had been in her fifth year, the summer between her fifth and fourth that she had discovered her ability as a dream walker. She had been having bad dreams for a while, things that would make her nervous without any memory of what they had been; one night, after a particularly bad one Asha crawled into bed with Isobel. After they had both fallen asleep Asha found herself in Isobel’s dream; talking and communicating with her sister, finally waking up when the dream had ended to find that she remembered everything. Completely confused, Asha went to her aunt for guidance, and they tried it with someone else; this time, however, Asha found that she was only able to enter her aunt’s dream, not interact with it. A little more study and she found that that was how it worked for everyone but her sister; she was able to enter their dreams as an observer. The ability, however, left Asha feeling exhausted and so she very rarely used it, unless she had good reason to; as in the case of one particular bully who was giving Isobel a hard time. A few comments about Krys’s dreams, told in uncanny detail and she wasn’t annoying Isobel anymore. No one really bothered Izzy much after that. While Asha’s ability had shown itself when she was about fourteen, a lot earlier, Isobel’s didn’t show itself until she was in her second to last year at Penrose, again quite by accident. Done one night, she had been deep asleep and suddenly woken by a loud noise. Deciding to inspect it, she had gotten up and found the source – nothing more than the changing of the shifts of the bodyguards, and went back to bed after getting a glass of water only to find that she was still in her bed! A loud scream awoke the house – and they entered Isobel’s room to find two of her. At first they were confused about why she was screaming; that was until Asha showed up, tired and wondering what was wrong, and they realised that there was three girls. Though Isobel received her ability later, she was the one who had better control, and more use for her ability. Brendan Landon had always been known to the family – his father before him had worked for the family just as he was doing, and a favourite of the girls because of his ability to always tell which one was which, even when they were actually trying to trick him. When they found out that their mother and he were dating in their sixth year, though it had likely been going on for a while before that, they couldn’t have been happier. The two married in their seventh and final year at Penrose, bringing the twins two older step-brothers, Joshua and Mitchell. It was also about this time that their aunt Dita, who had recently taken up as the head of the family business, had decided to expand their enterprise. She was going to move to Europe, and of course, a lot of the family was going to head up with them. Isobel and especially Asha were eager to head to Europe, a new part of the world with their aunt, but of course their education had to come first; the decision was made that they would head to Europe once they had graduated. Dita wasn’t looking to settle down anytime soon, and Asha was already her protégé, so heading to Europe to study – to learn about the business – made perfect sense. The ideas girl that she was, Asha chose to go into Economics and Business, where her leadership skills would come in handy – and Isobel went into International Studies and Law, in order to be able to get her sister out of trouble when she needs it. Family: Isobel Whyndam: easily the most important person in Asha’s life, Izzy is her identical twin sister and the other half of her soul. They are the kind of twins who can, though rarely do finish each others sentences, read each other’s minds and know what’s going on with the other person. They are each other’s other half. Yvette Mae Landon: née Nightingale, this is Asha’s very young mother; at just thirty-five years old, Yvette may as well be Asha’s sister, rather than her mother. The two are relatively close, though not as close as Izzy and Yvette are, but the smaller than average age difference helps a lot to close the gap between them and allow them to get along well. To Asha, her mother represents the quieter side that she never quite achieved, and though she is young she without a doubt has the maternal personality down, again something Asha never had an inkling towards. Jake Whyndam: Asha’s father who has only recently come back into her life. Although Asha without a doubt loves her father, she is very weary of him, knowing how much she, her sister and their mother have been hurt by him in the past. Though their relationship is getting better, it is without a doubt strained. Jezebel Dita Nightingale: her aunt on her mother’s side, Asha holds a special place in her heart for Auntie Dita; named because of the twins inability to say Jezebel when they were babies. While her sister and mother are both very different to her in some ways, Aunt Dita is the person that Asha in many ways aspires to be. Asha rather views herself as being Dita’s protégé. Brendan Landon: the much beloved step-father, Asha could not have been happier when Brendon married her mother. He is a strong, positive force to the household and brings with him a much needed masculine presence to the house. Joshua and Mitchell Landon: at 21 and 19, these are Asha’s step-brothers from his first marriage, their mother having died when they were quite young. While Izzy tends towards the quieter Mitchell as a close friend, Asha strays towards Joshua and often finds herself arguing with him, trying to prove herself and that she isn’t the little kid he has labelled her as. They make a somewhat unusual, but certainly loving family. Miscellaneous Pet: Izzy! Knowledge/Talents: Asha is extremely good at reading people’s thoughts and feelings, most likely garnered from her ability of seeing into their subconscious, and along with her business acumen helps her become, if not always intelligent, very savvy. Magical Weaknesses: Asha could never be accused of being delicate, in either her manner or her magic. Anything that’s pure force; offensive jinxes, for example, are fairly simple for her, but any magic that requires a delicate touch and careful, minute details isn’t something she has a good handle on. Potions, where one has to be precise and careful, is another weakness; and the less said about what happened when Asha took Herbology, the better. Special Ability: Dream walking; Asha has the ability to enter into the dreams of another person. She doesn’t have any control over the dream, nor can she interact with anyone in another person’s dream; Asha is simply a spectator of the dream, and although she finds herself in the setting it’s rather like entering a pensive memory, watching what happens without having any effect on what’s going on without her. To enter someone’s dream takes a lot of concentration, and is not something that Asha does often; she has to have a picture of the person, and while in physical contact with the photo, falls asleep herself. The dream walking only ends when the dream of the other person ends, she has no control over leaving the other person’s mind when using her ability. This of course only works when the other person is asleep before she is, and the entire experience and effort is wasted if they are not asleep when she uses her ability, simply nothing happens. Most recently, she has with the help of her aunt been trying to expand this power into not only dreams at night, but also daydreams, and even thoughts while the other person is awake; this doesn’t use as much energy as entering someone’s dreams, and is much preferred by Asha. Using this power takes a lot out of her; despite the fact that she is asleep when she is using it, her mind is not at rest and it is as if she were awake. Asha must get more hours of sleep than most people, especially on the days following her dream walking. Without the extra sleep to make up for her dream walking, she becomes little more than a walking zombie, as though she has gotten no sleep at all, and exhibits the usual signs of sleep deprivation. Because of the stress and strain it puts on her body, she doesn’t use this ability often, and usually not without a good reason to. When using her ability on her sister however, works a little differently; when entering her sister’s dreams she is able to talk to and interact with her sister, often involving there being three, even four of them around depending on what Isobel is dreaming. Of course, given that her sister sleeps so rarely Asha doesn’t have a lot of opportunity to enter her sister’s dreams, and doesn’t do it very often. Entering her sister’s daydreams is a lot easier and more often done, and Asha does not feel as much of the tiredness with Isobel as she does with other people. Isobel is also the only person that Asha can enter the dreams or thoughts of without a picture being used. Notes: [LM] |
