EDUCATION AT ELYSION UNIVERSITY

As with any prestigious university, there are many levels of education available to students.

So how do you figure out what level you should be at?
Ask yourself how many university degrees you have completed in whole.

None? Then, like the majority of students here, you are going to be completing an undergraduate degree. The majority of undergraduate students come straight from a previous school and are 18 years of age.
Information on undergraduate degrees can be found here

One Degree? Then you need to ask yourself a further question: are you studying in the same area that your degree is in, or a different one? For example, say your last degree was in Charms; are you still interested in studying Charms, or do you want to study Transfiguration?
Same Area: you are going to complete a Masters Degree in that area. Information on Masters degrees can be found here.
Different Area: you are going to complete a post-graduate degree. They work the same as undergraduate degrees, and you should look here for information on them.

Two Degrees? If you are a very studious sort and have completed two degrees in the same area (as the majority of students who have completed two degrees have), then you will be studying a Doctorate. Information on Doctorate degrees can be found here.

Finally we suggest that you look at this post, where more detail about each of the majors is explored.

DOCTORATE
A doctorate is an academic degree that represents the highest level of formal study or research in a given field. Two types of Doctorate are available; a Research Doctorate and a Professional Doctorate. Research Doctorates are awarded to those who complete a thesis in an area of academic research. Professional Doctorates are awarded not solely on the basis of study, but on a research and professional experience component, where work experience in the relevant field is necessary. Which type of doctorate is study depends on the area of study, and in some cases, preference of student.

Doctorates are available in particular areas of study, as outlined below. In order to be eligible for a Doctoate in a particular area of study, students must have completed both an undergraduate degree and a Masters Degree in that area of study at Elysion University, or another magical university recognised by EU.

Those students studying a doctorate will often also lecture classes in their chosen field, generally as a junior or associate professor.

Doctorate degrees are only offered in the following areas at this time. At the end of the degree, students will have achieved a Doctorate in their area of study (example, Doctor of Potions), and be able to use the title Dr. in front of their names.

All Doctorates are three years full-time, regardless of type. A thesis is expected from both research and professional doctorates, although the latter has a shorter length thesis, work experience expected, and a reflection to be written on said work.

AREA OF STUDY - INFORMATION

Bachelor of Theoretical Magic
Ancient Runes – Ancient Runes is a historical study of the magical runes of the ancient world. Learning Ancient Runes is like learning a whole new language. Experts in Ancient Runes may take a variety of paths upon graduating, including direction in divination or sociology.
Arithmancy – Arithmancy is a branch of magic that is concerned with the magical properties of numbers, and how they are connected to the magical world. Arithmancy experts are sought by a variety of employers (including the Ministry of magic) for their highly complex knowledge of the manipulation of magic through complicated theorems and equations, as well as their ability to solve difficult magical problems.
Divination – Divination is magic which attempts to foresee future events. Broaden your mind with the concepts of what the future may hold. True Seers are born with their gift of future sight, but the rest of the wizarding population must develop their skills through various mediums. Most divination experts are privately employed in a variety of sectors.
History of Magic – A study of the history of the magical world up to and including right now. The greatest parts of magical history are explored from the time of the Ancient Witches and Wizards to now. After graduation these experts can become professors, museum curators, archeologists, writers, or restorers.
Mythology – A specialised class for Elysion University, come here to learn about the mythology of the world, both the muggle world and the magical world. It is a much more in-depth look at the mythos of the world than History of Magic is. Graduates of this subject follow paths similar to those studying History of Magic.
Occlumency – Occlumency is the art of magically defending the mind against external penetration, sealing it against magical intrusion and influence; the defensive counter to Legilimency. Occlumency also includes the study of the mind, also known in the muggle world as psychology. After graduation, Occlumens may be employed in highly covert areas of the Ministry of Magic, the prison system, or may hire themselves out as freelance Occlumens for a variety of situations.

Bachelor of Practical Magic
Charms – Charms are a type of magic spell concerned with enchanting an object to behave in a way that isn't normal for that object. Wand movement is always very important in this class. It is a very broad subject, and with it comes a vast array of professions.
DADA – Defence Against the Dark Arts is the branch of magic that teaches how to block and defend oneself against the dark magics of the world. The school does not teach the dark arts themself, naturally, but rather how to fight against them. This major is not only for Aurors, but also for privately employed as corporate security officials, personal bodyguards, teachers, and defence consultants.
Duelling – Dueling exists as a sport in the same way that fencing is a sport in the Muggle world. While it is a friendly sporting competition, it is essentially a form of combat. Wizard dueling has rules and competitions, but in a battle, the same skills come into play in life or death situations. Most duelling majors work their way up in the official ranks, trying to be the best there is.
Quidditch Tactics – Flying majors will study all aspects of flying, from the evolution of the broomstick to the various wizarding sports that are played in the air. Flying majors may go on to be instructors, professional Quidditch players, broom makers, or flying and broom experts for the Ministry of Magic.
Transfiguration – Transfiguration is magic which changes one object into another. It is possible to change inanimate objects into animate ones and vice versa. Some Transfiguration spells alter a part of something, such as changing a person's ears from normal into rabbit ears. Transfiguration experts may go on to teach, work for the Ministry of Magic (in nearly any department, especially those that lean more towards their area of skill), or seek employment in a variety of other fields.

Bachelor of Magical Science
Astronomy – Astronomy, the study of the planets and the stars, helps us to further understand the world around us. The movements of the stars have been used in many branches of study elsewhere. Most are employed as teachers, or experts for the Ministry of Magic, while others may be employed as consultants for a variety of situations and entities.
Engineering – Engineering is the study of objects and buildings, including the invention of new magical objects, the building of magical structures, and the conversion f Muggle objects for use in the magical world. There are many streams in Engineering, which can lead to jobs from Ministry work to freelancing and contracting.
Herbology – Herbology is the study of magical plants and fungi, including their care and their magical properties and uses. Herbology experts go on to such occupations as magical greenhouse owners and managers, consultants for the Ministry, teachers, breeders of rare (or experimental) plant species and so on.
Magical Creatures – Care of Magical Creatures is the study of the animals that live in the magical world and how to look after them. These individuals can go on to be Ministry Officials in the many subsections of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, breeders and merchants of specialized (and/or rare) species, wizarding game wardens in creature sanctuaries magical zoos, and so forth.
Medical Magic – Healing, or Medical Magic as it is also known as, is the study of the magical ways of healing. General Medical Magic majors may go on to be employees of such large medical institutions as St. Mungo's, or may start their own, more private medical practices, such as family practitioners' offices, etc.
Potions – Potions are magical liquids created by mixing various ingredients in a cauldron according to very specific rules. These mixtures must usually be drunk to give their magical effect. The ingredients in potions range from the mundane to the bizarre and fantastic, and the procedures for creating some potions can be complicated and time-consuming. As potions can be used for a variety of purposes, graduates can go into a variety of career paths.

Bachelor of Humanities
Business – This Business course teaches someone the basics of keeping a business; not only the book keeping side of it, but also tips to a successful business. They know how to make deals, turn profits, navigate mergers and buy-outs, negotiate investments, watch the wizarding stock market, and we know not what. There isn't a job in the magical business world that a Wizarding Business major can't hold. It all depends on their ultimate goals.
Criminology – Wizarding Criminology is a subject made especially for Aurors, where students study everything to do with the capture and study of criminals in the wizarding world, and the punishment in the form of Azkaban. Whereas DADA majors study how to stop those that use the Dark Arts, Criminology majors concentrate on the question of why people choose the darker path.
Economics – Economics studies the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. One of the uses of economics is to explain how economies, as economic systems, work and what the relations are between economic players in the larger society. Methods of economic analysis have been increasingly applied to fields that involve people making choices in a social context, such as crime, education, the family, health, law, politics, religion, social institutions, and war. Economics majors most often work in the business sector.
Education – Education is one of the most taken subjects at Elysion University, and a must for any student thinking of going into the teaching profession. A unique subject, this can either be taken as a duel degree with another subject, or as a postgraduate degree after deciding what students want to teach.
International Studies – Studying magical societies across the globe: from politics to social customs, theology to international relations, and everything in between. There is also a side class of languages that can be learned through INS. Many INS studiers go on to become wizarding sociologists.
Languages – There are many languages in this world, not only of the muggle world and its countries, but also of the magical world and its species. Many phrases of the more useful magical languages are taught here. This is taken as either a professional subject, or as an area of interest.
Law – Everyone needs law, even the Wizarding World. If you are looking into a career in the ministry, or as a lawyer, this class is needed. If not, this class is a very interesting one to take. This majors can lead future wizarding attorneys to their future careers, which may be anything from a legal consultant, to a member of the prestigious Wizengamot, to the ultimate profession of them all: Minister of Magic.
Muggle Studies – Muggle Studies majors learn about every aspect of the Muggle world, from its history and social developments, to uses of modern Muggle artifacts. These majors go on to be teachers, transitional counselors of newly magical families, Ministry employees, and so forth.
Politics – Politics majors will study every aspect of our political world, from international relations, customs, and regulations; to domestic political issues, lawmaking, and electoral proceedings. Most majors in Wizarding Politics go on to hold a variety of public offices both at History of Magice, and abroad, and often study this as part of a double degree.

Bachelor of Arts
Dance – Dance is the subject that, unsurprisingly enough, teachers the student different forms of dancing. Students enrolled in this subject will learn everything from basic dancing techniques of all different styles, choreography and theory of education. Dance can lead to a variety of arts jobs, or can simply be a subject taken for the fun of the dance.
Design Arts – Fashion Design, Interior Design, Advertising Design; all of these are taught in the realm of design arts. The types of occupations available to Artists, however, may not be as apparent as the obvious "starving artist" type; they may also work as gallery owners and/or consultants, teachers, graphics designers, work in advertising, etc.
Dramatic Arts – People here study such things as acting, set design, behind the scenes of the theatre, various theatrical movements and highlights throughout history. Upon graduation, Dramatic Arts majors may choose to teach, perform as actors, direct or choreograph plays or musicals, or work in the capacity of producers or directors.
Literature – Wizarding Literature is a necessary part of any curriculum. It is deeper than English, with more of an analysis of the texts than looking at themes and plots. Magical Literature experts may seek employment as authors, playwrights, literary editors and critics, teachers, and in certain cases, writers and/or feature reporters for more creative publications.
Media Communications – There are many types of media in the wizarding world; newspapers, magazines, radio. Here you will learn about the different types of media, from a sociology and journalism point of view, as well as learning writing techniques to help in the world of media. Media professionals may work for publishing houses as editors; reporters or editors for newspapers and magazines; reporters, disc jockeys, or station managers; founders/writers of various informative publications etc.
Music – The study of various instruments and genres of music, from a variety of cultures, as they fine tune their own talents. Most music majors either go on to teach, or become performers. They may also be managers, executives, and producers in the music industry.
Visual Arts – Visual Arts are all of the physical arts, such as painting, sculpture, pottery, photography, and a variety of other mediums. The types of occupations available to Artists, however, may not be as apparent as the obvious "starving artist" type; they may also work as gallery owners and/or consultants, teachers, portrait artists, etc.
