Personal Information Name: Darcy Emma Braithwaite Nickname: Darce, Darkie Gender: Female Age: 26 Birthday: October 20th Blood: Pureblood Wand: 11”, rosewood, core of two mermaid hairs. Academic Information Year: 10th Level of Study: Undergraduate Area of Study: Sociology: International Studies + Muggle Studies Previous Schooling: Ekero Elementary (grades 1-6) Norse Academy for Magical Learning (Denmark) (years 1-7) Physical Description: Height: 5' 5½" (1.66 m) – a little above average but short enough to make her feel it. Build: Slight build – though she isn’t a stick by any means, Darcy has always been in good shape due to a strict exercise regime – the women in her family has always been prone to gaining weight very easily and Darcy wants to avoid this for as long as possible. Part of this has been a history of not eating, and on bad days, it looks like it. Hair: While she had the beautiful pale blonde hair of her little sisters long ago, it faded during her teenage years into a golden blonde, darker at the roots and lighter at the ends. She keeps it long most of the time, a few inches below shoulder level, and curls it as best she can. Eyes: Teal – her eyes are, simply put, stunning and easily the most striking of her features. Though most people would call her eyes teal, they’re coloured in a very unusual way – her eyes are basically two rings of colour, a thinner dark blue outer edge with a centre of green. A lot of people think that she may have coloured her eyes in some way, using some spell, but they’re natural and a heritage from her mother. Voice: Her accent is light Swedish over English – easily understood English for most people. Her voice is very heavy and raspy – best described as husky. Ethnicity: Swedish Other: A heart shaped face, with blessedly high cheekbones. But a strong jaw, a bit too thick for her face. She often hides this with her hair, layering it around her face to make it look longer than it actually is. Darcy is the kind of woman to have everything done perfectly as well – perfectly shaped eyebrows, manicured nails, perfectly done makeup. She doesn’t go too crazy most of the time, keeping it looking natural, but it would be odd to see her go without. Her dress is the same, very girlie – light colours, dresses and fancy blouses, always meticulous and stylish and always in a pair of heels to make up for the lack of height. Psychological Personality: ] Intellectual, analytical, articulate, and versatile – these are the words Darcy would use to describe herself. She’s all of these and more – a real air sign with the ability to discuss just about any topic – but she definitely knows it. Though it isn’t true, Darcy thinks of herself as the most intelligent, educated and wise person around – thinking herself better than not only her peers, but her professors as well. Since she’s so quick to express her opinions of things (and she is very opinionated) this can be a bad thing. Darcy thinks of herself as the smartest – and likes to prove it to people as often as possible – and so when she gets proven wrong by someone retreats back into herself, gets very embarrassed and avoids talking of it ever again. Most of the time Darcy will just pretend that she was never proven wrong, that it never happened, and just refuse to admit her faults. If anything, she will try to prove that person wrong, about anything – her thirst for knowledge sometimes shows itself as a thirst for facts to show up someone else. She has a real interest in finding out about people, how they act and why – with the focus on groups (hence the major in sociology). Showing the typical pureblood traits, she thinks that muggles are below her because they can’t use magic – “senseless, moronic monkeys” she was once heard saying – but at the same time has a real interest in them. She always excelled in muggle studies, choosing to go into that area of the Ministry, and enjoys learning all that she can about their lives – though the idea that they’re below her has never left. In the wizarding world this has changed a little into an interest in muggleborns – while for a lot of purebloods muggleborns are just as bad, Darcy finds them absolutely interesting, just as much if not more so than purebloods. Still not as important as her, not on her level, but then again for Darcy no one is. Darcy is likeable enough generally – short term anyway, she’s a nice person who shows a real interest in getting to know people. This is sometimes behind the façade of wanting to know more about them for her own purposes, but generally she’s authentic enough. Long term is a different story – she’s hard for some people to deal with long term, and has trouble forming lasting friendships just because making that human connection is hard for her – she’s an observer, not someone who gets involved in things. It’s a bit of a shell she’s formed for herself, and in friends she really needs someone to pull her out of her shell and relax a little – uptight is a word that can be used to describe her. On a more negative note Darcy can be very underhanded and crafty – and completely unapologetic about using people for her own means most of the time. When it comes to – as she mockingly calls it – her acts of “evil” Darcy is ingenious, and very creative about how situations (though not usually people) can be manipulated to suit her. When someone has wronged her she’s hypocritical – she can harbour a grudge like nobodies business. Finally a warning – Darcy can get quite scary (and vindictive) when angry and she tends to get angry a lot. History: Her life started as a typical pureblooded girls would – the first born and much wanted daughter, following one son. The family weren’t the richest in the area – both of her parents worked for the Ministry for Magic (Sweden, located in the country’s capital) and she grew up in a family who was upper-middle class and well known because of her parent’s position, but never a ‘rich bitch’. Darcy was very happy with being the youngest and remembers her early years as generally happy. Her parents only planned on having two children – with one of each it worked out well – so it was a big surprise when five years after Darcy they had another girl, Dahlia, and then two years after that the last daughter, Malin. Darcy apparently didn’t take to the change very well – became a bit of a brat, always wanting her parent’s attention. This later turned to a nanny – from an early age, before her younger sisters were born the children were looked after by a governess/nanny, and when they were old enough started at Ekero Elementary, the local magical elementary school which taught magical theory only. The focus was always on the wizarding world – in fact, until she was eleven and headed out to her magical school (before which she had shown the usual signs of magical activity). Her parent’s choice in school was obvious – the Norse Academy for Magical Learning was the school they had both gone to and after her older brother, Darcy followed him to this school. It was here that she first learned about the muggle world – and even that muggles existed, having lived in a purely wizard community – and found herself absolutely fascinated. Darcy was a bit of a picky student – she was very bright and had the capacity to excel, but only did well in the classes she liked (where she was near top of the class) – but in the classes she didn’t like Darcy didn’t even try, getting pretty bad grades. She liked school though, and she loved to learn – especially about the history of magic and about the muggle world. Her seven years at NAML went by without anything really amazing or notice worthy happening – other than her ability coming to light in the second year. A friend of hers at school had seeing powers, especially with tarot cards – whenever Darcy was around her predictions were more specific and came true more often. She learned about her ability when she was twelve – didn’t do anything about it until she was sixteen and learned some control when she was in a classroom, using her ability unknowingly and someone’s magical ability grew so much she left one of the walls of the room as rubble. Learning to control her ability didn’t take long – she could switch it off whenever she wanted soon after that, and by her last year at NAML she could stop herself from using it altogether – well almost anyways. After graduating from school it wasn’t any surprise that Darcy headed into the ministry – just like her parents had, and her brother before her. Unlike her parents (her mother is an Obliviator, her father in an Unspeakable) and her brother (a Hit Wizard) Darcy kept her job purely theoretical – she started in the Department of International Magical Cooperation, where she worked for years. Darcy never made it a secret that she specially wanted to move into the International Muggle Relations Department (a more specialised department that decides on muggle relations between the leaders of both worlds) but after five years of working and applying for the position Darcy found out that she wasn’t qualified enough for it. This did not make her happy – not at all, and she made her boss know exactly how she felt about it. Things were said, but a decision was finally reached (with the help of her family’s influence) – she would go to university and get a degree, after which she would immediately be given the promotion. Darcy looked around at school, but given how she liked to play with people because of her power, Elysion University in Greece – where everyone has some ability – seemed like the perfect place for her to go, and off she went. Sociology was her chosen class – the study of the international magical world (which she has first hand experience about, something she always tells her professors) and the muggle world (which she has always had such a big interest in). Along with this Darcy has decided to do an experiment – to find out how magic affects people from different backgrounds, thinking that Elysion was the best place to go. Her sister was already there, and had only good things to say. Two years in and her experiment has grown – as has her ego – and she’s nearly halfway through her six year degree, eager to get back to her new job. Family: Darcy’s parents are Lindberg and Karina Braithwaite. She has one older brother Anderson (27), and two younger sisters, Dahlia (21) and Malin(18). Miscellaneous Pet: A black and white male European Shorthair cat named Olander. Olander is almost misanthropic – he doesn’t even seem to like Darcy all that much. Knowledge/Talents: Swedish is first language, but can also speak fluent English (with an accent), some Finnish and German. Subjects to do with languages (Ancient Runes) are favourites of hers. Darcy is proficient at Charms and Divination, but that’s about all, magic wise. Magical Weaknesses: Everything but Charms and Divination. A good hex here and there, but nothing to be scared of – Transfiguration was always hard, and DADA was harder. She has no mind for numbers either, so anything Arithmancy or History related isn’t for her. Special Ability: Power amplification – Darcy can make the power of another witch or wizard (or muggle, theoretically, if they have some ability but Darcy refuses to think of them as being that powerful) stronger, simply by thinking it so. Sometimes this gets the better of her – she’ll be thinking of something else, not really concentrating on what she’s doing, and accidentally set her power off, but generally she has a pretty reasonable control over her power (much better at stopping it than starting it). This isn’t just limited to abilities other than general magic – if she uses it around any witch or wizard their normal magic ability will also increase – allowing them to do more difficult spells than before. Of course, other abilities will also increase - for example, a pyrokinetic will find themselves making much larger and hotter flames, and an elf will find that their senses are much better than normal. Sometimes this doesn’t turn out well for the person she’s using her ability on – it gets too strong for them to handle and they can get hurt. Since Darcy isn’t the most giving person, she doesn’t often use her ability on other people, and has no use for it herself so it doesn’t get used often.
