![]() Personal Information Name: Idina Gloria Dresden Nickname: Dina, mostly by the lazy Gender: Female Age: 18 Birthday: April 10th Blood: Pureblood Wand: 12.5” of rowan wood, with a core of golden Re’em hairs. Academic Information Year: 8th Level of Study: Undergraduate Degree: Theoretical Magic Major: Divination Previous Schooling: Woodcroft Academy of Magical Learning, NY (USA). Physical Description: Height: 5’ 4” Build: Idina can best be described as petite, small in stature and height, and quite thin and willowy. She has some curves to her body that she emphasises with clothes, especially her tiny waist. Idina likes to exercise to keep her shape, generally sticking to running simply because it is easiest to achieve, no matter where she is. Hair: Idina has dark brown hair that she keep soft and shiny with witch products. It is very long, at the longest layer down to about her mid-back. Naturally it is quite boring and straight, though she very rarely leaves it that way. Instead, Idina prefers to give it soft curls around her face, generally putting it up and away from her face. Eyes: Almond shaped eyes of a medium, chocolate brown colour. Idina finds her eyes boring and plain, so generally wears a bit more eye makeup than she should. Voice: Idina has a very low, rich voice with a husky timbre to it. It sounds a little rough, and quite unique. She has an American accent when she speaks, the crisp accent on someone from the Upper East Side of New York. Ethnicity: American (Dutch/German ancestry) Other: Idina was blessed with smooth, olive skin that gives her a more exotic look than her heritage would suggest. Her facial features are a little out of proportion; her lips are a little too small, and her nose is a little too long, but she has long since learnt the best make-up tips to make these seem like features rather than flaws. Style wise Idina is neat, modern and perfect; from her straight hair which she curls slightly with a wand, to her perfectly manicured French nails. Idina is very much a girly-girl, so will mainly dress in dresses and skirts; the monetary situation means that she can afford nice clothes, and always wears the very best fabrics. She has a scar on the middle of her back from a broomstick incident when she was younger, which she does everything in her power to cover. Psychological Personality: Despite her youth, Idina tends to act as though she is much older than her years would suggest, jaded person as she is. Her view of the world is tempered by her upbringing, to the point of developing a superiority complex about nearly everything. Her blood is the best of all the purebloods, and of course purebloods are better than muggleborns; the less said about useless muggles, the better. Idina isn’t necessarily cruel about it though, or at least, not purposefully. For her it is simple fact, and anyone who cannot see it are idiots, but she doesn’t go around calling people mudblooded either. It is as much about class as it is about blood. Naturally she is quite picky about her friends because of this, though it might be more accurate to say that it is her friends who are picky about her. This jaded view extends to romance, and she fully realises she will one day marry because her parents want to make some important connection, rather than for blood; other than trying to find a partner that doesn’t bore her too much, this doesn’t bother her. Idina tends to act a little standoffish when one first meets her, and is certainly apathetic about a lot of things. Tightly controlled, she is an observer rather than a performer, watching the happenings with a careful eye, and more often than not, a scornful look on her face. Getting Idina to let loose and relax is a difficult thing to do, but entirely worth the effort. When she relaxes she lets herself go, free to laugh and enjoy herself more than one might expect of the prissy teenager. When she lets her hair down Idina can get a little too wild, take things a little too far in trying to have fun. Her connections will always get her out of trouble eventually, of course, but the same cannot always be said about her companions. Which, inconsiderate girl that she is, she will tend not to think of beforehand. On the other hand, once you become a friend of Idina and in her inner circle, once you have proven yourself, Idina makes a good friend. She isn’t one to mince words, but you can always depend on her to give her honest opinion without stopping to consider how you might take it, but it will always be the truth as she sees it. Using her connections for her friends is done without thought, and she certainly isn’t old fashioned enough to think that as a woman she shouldn’t pay for anything; she is generous with her money because at the end of the day, she knows that she has a lot while others do not. Self-indulgent though she may be, Idina will always make time for her friends if they need her, and go to bat for them, especially against authority figures (who, as a matter of interest, Idina has little respect for herself). History: Idina is the eldest and only daughter of William and Caroline Dresden (nee Gaudron) in Manhattan, New York. Both families are pureblooded for generations, and can easily be considered to be amongst the most influential of magical families in New York, though the fact that they are not the most influential is always something that has bothered Caroline especially. Though they technically lived amongst muggles, or at least near some, they stuck to wizarding society, enjoying how secretive they had to be in the big city. William can best be described as the magical world equivalent of a lobbyist, working hard to certain laws passed and others not, fighting for education in certain respects; rather than lobbying for a cause or a company however, he is more lobbying for the rights of his family and his friends, and his pureblooded beliefs. From a very young age Idina and her younger brother Charlie were taught to be quiet, but look good when presented to the friends of their father. In this way, their family can be likened to one involved in politics. Growing up Idina was extremely spoiled, and never wanted for anything. She was home schooled by a private tutor where she learned extensively about magical theory and the magical world at large. She disliked it immensely; learning about spells while being unable to perform them was frustrating for the little girl. She enjoyed her other lessons; languages, dance, singing and various sports more, but other than the very first, none of them stuck as interesting past the period of about one year. Idina often grew bored as a child and was very much a troublemaker, only ever calming down and behaving for her father. At the age of eleven Idina was sent to Woodcroft Academy of Magical Learning, a boarding school located in upper New York state. There she finally learned what it was to be a real witch, in her opinion, by actually being able to perform magic. She showed a special fondness for Transfiguration in the early years, and very much enjoyed learning about the other world in Muggle Studies classes. It was early into her first year that her ability was first discovered; it was very likely that Idina had always had it, but no one had paid it much attention until now. They would not happen often normally, but the stress of going to boarding school likely triggered her power, and she began to have dreams. She had tried telling her nannies and tutors about the dreams before, but to no avail; even at Woodcroft, she did not tell a teacher about them. Rather, she would tell her new friends about events that were about to happen, or little titbits of information she happened to know about people, and to their shock it would become true. A friend soon reported it to the Headmaster, who, along with the Divination teacher, soon realised that Idina was able to dream about the future and past. Immediately they put her in divination classes and private tutoring in the subject, for which she showed enormous aptitude. Idina’s parents were, naturally, extremely happy with the news; it marked out her daughter as different and special, a Seer in the family, although that is not exactly what she was. Idina was proud of her newfound ability, and especially the fact that people were paying attention to it, and worked hard at it during her time at Woodcroft. While at home she was trotted out by her parents as their especially gifted daughter, a fact that she was perfectly fine with; though her mother’s claims about having Seers in the family past, a complete lie, grated on her sometimes. After graduating at the age of 18 there was no question that Idina was to go to university; it was only a matter of which one. Although her mother wanted her to go to one which was nearby, Idina wanted to travel the world and came across in her research across Elysion University, reported to be just for those with a special ability. It was easy for her mother to agree to let her go to such a specialised school, and Idina is happy to start making her mark on the world at large. Family: Idina’s parents are Caroline and William Dresden, unhappily married for many years. Idina has one younger brother, Charles aka Charlie, who is three years younger than her. She has three pairs of aunts and uncles, and various cousins that she is quite close to also, but no one that particularly stands out. Miscellaneous Pet: A large snowy owl by the name of Carpathia, mainly used to converse with her family. She’s always wanted more animals, but never been allowed to have them before. Knowledge/Talents: Divination is of course her strongest subject, and she has a natural aptitude for it. The strength of her power depends on the medium used, with tea leaves and palmistry giving her the most accurate results, and astrology being amongst the least accurate. Like most divinatory techniques, her predictions are normally vague, only making sense in retrospect. Idina speaks quite good Spanish, as well as passable French and Italian, learned at school. She started learning the beginnings of Greek while at Woodcroft, in preparation for coming here, but is nowhere near fluent. Despite the fact that she is not studying it, her Transfiguration skills are quite good also. Magical Weaknesses: Idina was raised to be a proper lady, and as such, has no knowledge of duelling or even basic DADA spells, since they were downplayed at her junior school. Potions and Herbology, subjects where she must get her hands dirty, aren’t something she enjoys doing (with the one exception of Magical Creatures, since she always liked animals). Special Ability: Prophetic Dreams; a particular form of seeing ability that allows her to see events in the past and future through her dreams. She has absolutely no control over her ability; she sees things when she’s meant to, and no other times. They only occur during natural sleep, and can be interrupted if someone wakes her up. Her dreams, as far as she has heard, change just like everyone else’s; sometimes they’re in black and white and sometimes they’re in colour; sometimes they’re fluid and feel real, and sometimes they’re like comic books, where she just gets flashes. Idina does not dream apart from prophetic dreams, and like normal dreams, she does not always remember them, especially if they are about the future; but once the prophecy comes to pass, she remembers it clearly.
