Personal Information Name: Elizabeth Morwen Masters Nickname: Liz, Lizzie, Lizbeth Gender: Female Age: 23 Birthday: February 4th Blood: Halfblood Wand: 11 inches of Willow wood, with a core of Veela hair Academic Information Year: 13 Level of Study: Undergraduate Degrees: Bachelor of Theoretical Magic and Bachelor of Arts Majors: History of Magic and Media Communications Previous Schooling: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in Ravenclaw House Physical Description: Height: 5’7” Build: Lizzie has a small build, with thin and willowy limbs, kept that way through eating well and a small amount of exercise. She has a graceful walk as long as she isn’t paying any attention to it, aided by her long legs. Hair: Long honey blonde hair with natural platinum highlights. Liz loves her hair, taking very good care of it so that it’s always shiny and healthy looking. It’s quite long, only a few inches shy of reaching her waist, and falls in natural waves around her face. Her hair is quite thick, tending to make her hair look curlier than it actually is, especially when dry. Liz will almost always wear it down, often hiding behind it like a shroud when feeling particularly shy or embarrassed. Eyes: Bright green eyes, bordering on teal coloured irises. Like most of the Masters children, they are one of her best features, a beautiful colour and in the best of situations, very noticeable. Most of the time, however, if not hidden behind a certain of her hair Liz they will be hidden behind her glasses, which she almost always wears. They are square in shape, golden coloured and quite fashionable; and to Liz, quite useful as another feature to block her from the outside world. Liz also has contacts that she wears for special occasions, namely in front of her mother, who prefers her to wear them over wearing her glasses. Voice: Perhaps a half-pitch too high, which only travels upwards when she’s emotional; most of the time it’s softly spoken and melodic. Lizzie has a strong Welsh accent. Ethnicity: Welsh Other: Soft and sweet is the best way to describe Elizabeth Masters, with her pale skin, bright eyes and honey blonde hair. Liz, of course, notices her flaws above all else; the crooked shape of her nose, the baby weight that never seemed to leave her body. Her chin is a certain flaw for her, because it rather embarrassingly sticks out quite a bit, though with the strong lines of her face isn’t too outrageous. Liz has an younger looking face, always looking a little bit younger than she actually is; it frustrates her at the moment, but it will undoubtedly come in handy later in life. Clothing wise Liz is very vintage, preferring to wear clothing from decades past to the modern clothes to today; although this started as op shopping as a way to save money, she found that she preferred it to simple jeans and t-shirts, though she does own both of the latter. When at school her dress sense is usually a little more restricted, especially in colour, a part of her wanting to hide from the outside world somewhat. When around her family her clothing is much louder, much brighter. Always she has a love of large accessories, from her prescription ‘Lily Allen’ sunglasses, to long strings of beads and pearls, large belts and scarves. As a writer, she hates wearing anything that restricts her hands and dislikes rings and bracelets. Psychological Personality: A very introspective woman, Liz can be quite shy around people that she doesn’t know, preferring not to talk much to people that she doesn’t know unless she has a very good reason to do it. The shyness stems more from her ability, worrying that she will lose control over it; it usually doesn’t last very long, and if one persists with making conversation with her, she has no qualms about carrying on a conversation with people. Though Liz is an air sign, and thus a very good communicator, there isn’t any question that she is an excellent writer, whether it be the occasional fiction work she writes, or the essays which she actually, for the most part, enjoys. This very rarely translates to oral communication though, and she often finds herself saying the wrong thing, needing to backtrack and start over; people are sometimes left with the thought that she has talked them in circles. Liz is very much the analyst, the writer, and can do things on paper that she finds very difficult to do aloud. Part of this difficultly communicating orally does come from her confidence, or rather self-consciousness. Liz has no qualms about what she wants to do, and often gets a lot of odd looks about it; she has accepted her quirks, the things that make her unusual to the public eye; the fact that she wants to be a history writer, the fact that she can handle a gun. It’s about the general social things that she’s unsure of; her looks, her speech, her movement; the things that she has to deal with her peers with on a daily basis. These things she is very self-conscious about; why, when talking in a group she is fine, but when people start to pay too much attention to her she gets flustered. This is why she is able to shoot a dead bulls-eye one moment, dance beautifully, but as soon as someone points it out to her she drops the gun, falls over onto the ground. As long as she doesn’t know that anyone is watching her Liz has a beautiful, natural grace; most of the time she is just another with the Masters awkwardness. It has gotten somewhat better at Elysion where she had been able to come out of her shell more, but she still has more moments of awkwardness than moments without them. Liz can often tell how others are feeling, having good sensory perception. Likewise, she is extremely aware of her own feelings, and has a belief in being truthful to herself, and truthful to others as much as possible, though this isn’t as important for her. She very rarely expresses these feelings though; not that it is difficult to read her face, see what she’s feeling at any one moment, but rather she all but refuses to talk about what she feels about any particular situation. If they are negative feelings, they may build up inside Liz until they turn into firm judgments against individuals which are difficult to change, once set. In relation to other people, she is also not likely to let on that they know how others are feeling. However, they will speak up when they feel another individual really needs help, and in such cases they can truly help others become aware of their feelings. While she might pick up on a person’s feelings, she isn’t always the best judge of character; she tends to trust the best about people, even when others might tell her otherwise. She is optimistic in her view of people though, and won’t change her mind unless proven wrong, being quite stubborn about it. Liz feels a strong sense of responsibility and duty, likely coming from her family’s history. She takes her responsibilities very seriously, and can be counted on to follow through. For this reason, people naturally tend to rely on her. Liz has a difficult time saying “no” when asked to do something, and may become over-burdened. In such cases, she usually does not express her difficulties to others, because she intensely dislikes conflict, and because she tends to place other people’s needs over her own. Additionally, Liz needs positive feedback from others. In the absence of positive feedback, or in the face of criticism, Liz can get discouraged, and may even become depressed. During these times Liz begins to imagine all of the things that might go critically wrong in her life. She has strong feelings of inadequacy, and become convinced that everything is all wrong, or that she can't do anything right. Fortunately for her, she is surrounded now by family who can talk her out of it, show her that one setback isn’t the end of the world, and make her look at the bigger picture. History: The middle child in a large family, Elizabeth Morwen Masters was born the second of three girls and the third of five children in the Masters family. From the get go she was a quiet child, even when she was the youngest as she was for the first four years of her life, demanding little attention compared to her two older siblings. Her magical ability showed very early, even in her family; she was barely walking, waddling around when she was able to show bursts of uncontrolled magic, before either of her older siblings. This happened all through her early childhood, the quiet girl not being one to stand up for herself amongst her siblings and often forgotten, sometimes causing resentment to build up and explode through magic. She was fortunate enough that this happened mainly at home, and not at the local primary school that all the Masters children attended. It was early on that Liz showed a love for school, loving learning anything and everything that she could. Surprisingly enough, her favourite subject was history, a subject that many found boring but she found absolutely interesting. Though she got near perfect grades almost constantly, her brother soon showed himself to not just be smart, but a genius and Liz was once again designated to the status of middle child. This is perhaps what has led to the somewhat distant relationship she has to her parents, but the fact that she found someone else who loved school, loved learning in her little brother more than made up for it in her mind. The love of school, and of history extended into when she, like all Masters children, attended Hogwarts School of Magic. Despite the very boring teacher, she still had a love of history, changing into History of Magic. It was around her fourth year that Liz’s power emerged; she had always had a few friends, but had never been the most open of people. One day her power suddenly showed itself, when all of the people around her started to pay her extra attention, attention that she didn’t really want and certainly wasn’t used to. It was Jared that realised what he could smell on her, Liz getting so upset that she demanded it stop; to find that it did just that. From there it was a lot of researching with the Herbology professor to find what exactly her power was, and how much control she had over it, if any. The incident, however, and the fact that it could easily happen again, and did, made Liz very withdrawn for her remaining time at Hogwarts. For the rest of her time at Hogwarts she was withdrawn, spending a lot of time in her room and only really venturing out with her family. Soon enough she was known as the withdrawn senior who hardly spoke, seemingly had no friends and was often teased for her social awkwardness. Needless to say, she was not the most popular girl in school and didn’t really have any faith in her ability. It did, however, gave her an in at the excellent Elysion University, which had an excellent History of Magic programme, as well as a strong Arts faculty that would allow her to enhance her writing skills. She had long since decided that she would write history books, perhaps even the textbooks that she herself had used in the years at Hogwarts. Although her father wasn’t too happy with her wanting to pursue academics, Liz was certainly not someone who could find her way in the military, and he had no choice but to support her choice to go. Her years at Elysion did loosen her up somewhat, making a few friends in her house of Dioscuri, especially with the girls she lived with. Liz even ventured out on a date or two, but found that her nervousness made her pheromones come into play, making for some awkward situations, particularly her last one on which she was rather attracted to the guy. Lizzie has been lucky enough to have both her brothers join her at Elysion, as well as her sister-in-law and her first nephew Braith. During her time at Elysion Lizzie has been coming more and more out of her shell and become quite a bit more confident in herself. Family: William: Liz has never been very close to her father, and doubts that she ever will be; in part, because she is a girl and he doesn’t understand girls, and also because she is a scholar and he doesn’t understand academics. When he first learnt of her plans to become a history writer he was confused, but honestly didn’t see a future in the military, so let her be; their relationship has been described as one of mutual indifference. Evelyn: while Liz and Evelyn get along, they aren’t particularly close. Liz is the middle child after all, never getting a large amount of attention particularly after her younger siblings came along, and as such they never became close. While Liz does care for her mother, neither of them really understand the other. Jared: at 27, Jared is the eldest Masters child. Jared and Liz have an understanding one could say, they have a good, strong relationship that occurred not because of their personalities, but because of their powers; Liz is quite sure that if they had not had their abilities, their relationship would be distant. Jared is able to easily sense Liz’s power, and has no problems with telling her, which means that she can stop; for Liz Jared is somewhat of a protector, someone to look out for her, and she is thankful for that. Mary: the eldest daughter, Mary and Liz could not be further apart. Where Mary is adventurous, loud and energetic, Liz is shy, quiet and indifferent. Mary has a natural energy that makes people gravitate to her, and Liz holds a silent mystery that some find intriguing. The two are neither close, nor are they antagonistic; they simply are. Zachary: easily the sibling she is closest to, Liz and Zach have a relationship full of teasing, jokes and a deeper understanding that they are by far the two outcasts in their father’s eyes. They protect each other as well, to a point; Liz within their family, and Zach with the outside world. Two odd peas in a pod. Clara: The spoiled little sister has little in common with Liz most of the time, though there are more quiet times of introspection that the two can connect. The age difference makes this hard however, and Liz finds herself a generation X to Clara’s generation Y. Miscellaneous Pet: None Knowledge/Talents: Her greatest strength is without a doubt her writing abilities; she is able to capture a mood and scene in her writing and communicate it to the reader clearly, which is helpful in writing about history and making it interesting. Elizabeth knows quite a few languages, and is able to speak English, Welsh and French aloud. She also knows some Latin, both orally and in writing. In writing alone, she can read and write some German, Italian and Spanish, but doesn’t know how to speak it aloud, making her pronunciation so terrible that she doesn’t try to speak it at all. Whatever language she is speaking, she does so with a strong Welsh accent. She also has a good knowledge of weaponry, stemming from years spent in a military based family, and is quite a good shot with a handgun as long as no one is watching, learned during her summers with her father and older siblings. Magical Weaknesses: Lizzie isn’t a particularly good witch with a wand, apart from general household charms; her Transfiguration skills are particularly bad. Potions aren’t often made by Lizzie anymore, but when they were she was not particularly adept at making them; if she tried to make one now, it would go very badly. Special Ability: Liz has the power to emit pheromones which have impact on the emotions of others. A pheromone is any chemical or set of chemicals produced by a living organism that transmits a message to other organisms; naturally they only occur between members of the same species. Pheromones affect the behaviour and/or physiology of an organism. Liz is able to generate pheromones, which alter the chemical balance in the brains of those around him, and change the emotion that they are feeling. However, she has little control over what she generations; firstly in the sense that she simply emits whatever she is feeling at one time; if she is angry, then she emits the necessary pheromones to make the people around her feel angry also. This isn’t constant of course, but rather only when she is feeling an emotion strongly, or when she can focus on one particular emotion. On top of this, although she is able to consciously stop once she realises what is happening to her, she has no control over starting the emissions or what they contain. The pheromones will thereby be emitted until she realises what she is doing, and makes the effort to stop it. Notes: [LM] |
