InvisionFree Terms of Service

  • We apologize for the inconvenience, but according to Invisionfree terms of service you have to be thirteen years of age, or older to become a member.
  • People under 17 may not post or link any photos on this site without prior parental permission.
  • Posting your phone number, real life address, or any other personal information is not allowed due to privacy and security issues.
  • Links to sites with content above a PG-13 rating must contain a warning to younger members. We are not responsible for the content of other sites. If you click a link that takes you away from Elysion, you do so at your own risk.

Registration

  • Every member must have a valid email address in order to have their account validated and be able to post their application.
  • Members who fail to complete their validations and/or applications in 21 days will have their accounts deleted. If you are in the process of having your application accepted during the 21 days your account will not be deleted. (If this happens to you, there is nothing preventing you from registering again, though.)
  • Your member name must be that of your character, with capitalized first letters. Furthermore, your character must have at least two names, divided with a space. No numbers, dots, dashes etc. (If you accidentally created an account with improper name, it’s not a big deal. Just PM an admin to change it.)
  • Each new character must have a separate account and application. NPCs are available, but can have no more than three threads to themselves before an account for them is needed.

Canon Characters

  • There will be no Harry Potter canon characters allowed.
  • There will also be no characters connected to canon characters in any way.
  • The only canon character that exists is Lord Voldemort, simply to allow characters to be Death Eaters. Likewise, the Order of the Phoenix Order exists, though no leader is to be named. There can be talk of fights but do not act as though people are disappearing all the day, or that one side has the advantage.
  • Characters are not allowed to be ones taken from other works (books/movies/tv series), real people (no wizards called Daniel Radcliff), or, for safety reasons, your real name.

Applications

  • We ask for a detailed application to ensure you have a strong sense of your character. A rough guide would be at least two long paragraphs (6-7 lines of writing on the board) for most sections, though this is only a guide; a staff member may ask for more detail depending on the information given.
  • If a staff member asks for further information to their profile, please do not ask why; just accept it and try to fulfil the needs for a better profile.
  • Please note that you must complete at least one post in the roleplaying thread before your character is completed. You only have to write one at your start on the site (not one for each character, as we previously had), but you must post at least once. Once accepted, you can post in this thread as often as you wish. This rule is not yet in affect.
  • Also, please put 'I'd hit that (with my car)' in the notes part of your application to let us know you've read the Rules.
  • Your profile must be accepted by a staff member (most likely a moderator) and have your character sorted by an Admin before you can post on the site.

General Etiquette

General Rules

  • This is a roleplaying game based on the ‘Harry Potter’ world in the series by J.K. Rowling; it is not, however, based on the characters in the books, simply the magical laws. We are all aware that since there are no magical universities it is also AU. We are not claiming that these magics are our own; we relinquish all necessary copyrights to the author.
  • The rating of this site is a high PG-13 to a low R. This is a university, and things like drinking, sex and even drug use happens when people are in their young adult stage. However, just because one is allowed to write about these things does not mean that we want to hear every detail; nothing should be graphic.
  • More mature content (eg more detailed sex, details of substance abuse) should be done via pm.
  • No racial, nationalistic, sexual, or any other kind of discrimination will be tolerated OOC.
  • Keep arguing to a minimum. No one is interested in your personal quarrels; keep them out of public places. If you are having a problem with a fellow member, PM an Admin or moderator.
  • Please keep swearing and foul language at minimum. Sure, both you and your character might get angry sometimes. But please limit it, and be creative; you can simply say that your character cursed a blue streak instead of typing out every single word they used.
  • No advertising is to be allowed in signatures or via pm; only in profiles and in the appropriate advertising forum. If anyone is the victim of pm advertising we ask that you forward it to a staff member so it can be taken care of.

IC ≠ OOC

  • It’s important for all members to realise that what happens between characters in character does not equal what happens out of character; just because one character dislikes another does not mean that the roleplayers do not get along (if anything we ask that you avoid roleplaying with people you do not like to avoid this problem).
  • Problems that are OOC should be talked over with the staff; problems that are IC (such as a character not liking your own) will not be taken into account unless OOC harassment is also happening.
  • That being said, attitudes such as racial, nationalistic, sexual, wizarding blood, or any other kind of discrimination will be tolerated OOC if it fits the character; your character is not, however, a place to get your own prejudices out, and it would be wise to be careful with your discrimination so as not to offend other members (which is why discrimination based on purity of blood is the easiest, and even encouraged).

Site Staff

  • Please respect the staff members on the board. They have reached their positions for a good reason, and deserve to be treated with the same respect and courtesy that they will treat members with.
  • Do not backseat moderate! It is not the place of a member, faculty or student, to tell another player of out of character.
  • If you see a topic that is in the wrong forum, or you notice someone is breaking the rules, please do not post in the topic stating this. Instead it would be appreciated it if you PMed any Admin or Global Moderator about it so that we can handle it ourselves. After all, you are incapable of moving a topic and a user will probably absorb the rules better if it comes from someone on staff, rather than a member.

Roleplaying Rules

Starting a Thread

  • Please make sure that your opening post properly describes the time of day and setting of the thread.
  • Please ensure that your threads are set in the current month and season, as seen at the top of the forum.
  • In the title description of your post please post one of the following to allow others to know what the condition of the thread is:
Open: this means that anyone is allowed to reply to the thread; it is sometimes followed by a number to show how many people you want to roleplay with.
Closed: this means that the thread is closed to people other than to those previously arranged are allowed to post. This is sometimes followed by the names of those allowed to post.
Private: this usually means that the post isn’t appropriate for those of a younger age because of adult themes, and younger members should stay away from reading these.
  • No cross posting the forums. This is where you post the same opening post many times to create many threads.
  • No flooding the forum; make a number of threads that you can keep up with and not many that you find yourself unable to continue with.
  • No starting a thread with the intention of roleplaying one of your characters against another. If you want your characters to meet it should be done via the journal system, not on the main board.

Joining a Thread

  • Please be sure that when posting, you are contributing to the thread and helping the story along. Don’t post your character coming in, saying one line and leaving.
  • If the thread has already gotten underway please talk to the members in via pm and not a post it before joining.
  • As a courtesy do not enter threads that are marked as private or closed in the subtitle unless you know they are for you.
  • Please make sure that your posts adhere to the setting and time of day that the opening post has described.
  • Never post a reply that is purely an OOC note, or a short (under the word minimum) reply for the purpose of giving an OOC note to the person you are roleplaying with; all longer OOC notes should be done via pm.
  • Never double post! The edit button is there for a reason, and there is absolutely no reason to post twice once after the other.

Post Order

  • In threads where there are more than two people please ensure that post order is kept intact. For example, if Character A opens, and then Character B and C reply in that order, it must follow A, B, C. Don’t post out of order please, unless sorted out with the other characters of the thread.
  • Thread-jacking will not be allowed! This is where people openly ignore the opening post and do not let them post until much later on. Be respectful to all who rp in the thread and don’t ignore them!

Posting Length

  • When posting make sure you contribute more than one line to the thread. There us an acceptable post minimum of 250 original words. (Original meaning not quoted text from the previous post).
  • There is a 10% leeway for first time offenders, though many posts drastically below this will be taken notice of, and the appropriate action taken.

Post Structure

  • All posts must be written in third person (he, she etc).
  • All posts must be written in past tense (he did, she acted, he said etc).
  • Sentences in your posts should obey grammatical rules. This includes punctuation, quotation, and capitalization. Use common sense.
  • No net-speak in the IC Forums will be tolerated.

God-Moding and Metagaming

  • You may not control thoughts, or actions, of other players' characters, nor decide what happens to them. (This is also known as god-moding or godding.) You cannot even say that a punch you threw at them hit, as they may decide they want to dodge.
  • If you have talked with another character and they are letting you control their character please post it in an OOC note so the staff do not get in contact with you!
  • Never assume anything about another character; it might be acceptable that your character will lead another character somewhere, but before making it clear in your post, either contact the other player to make sure, or leave the post open ended so that they can decide whether to follow your character or not.
  • Metagaming is when a character knows something about another character that they should not, simply because you, the roleplayer, knows it. It is always important to remember what you as the roleplayer knows, and what your character knows, and to ensure that they are kept separate.
  • Your character cannot read minds, either. Anything that is not a visible facial expression, an action or speech, your character would not know. Please adjust your writing style to avoid making this mistake.

Consequences
Warning a member is the first step when dealing with members who fail to meet the rules for posting. Mostly these are simple warnings done via pm or editing the post in some cases. These types of warnings are mainly issued for posts that do not meet the minimum word count.
More serious offences, such as god-modding, or making many posts under the word count will mean an increase on a member’s warning bar.
Failure to abide by these rules more than three times will mean that your character/s that have broken the rules will be placed on Mod Queue, which is where a Mod previews your posts, and they won't appear unless approved. You could also be suspended from posting for a set amount of time, or, if it is a very serious matter and a repeat offender, you could be banned, where you can’t do anything on the boards at all.

Graphics

Avatars

  • Images used in avatars are to be no larger than 150 pixels wide by 200 pixels high.
  • Images used must be rated PG-13 maximum. This means that there is to be no nudity, though allusions to nudity are allowed, no swear words, etc. If you are unsure, ask an admin.
  • Please credit to the artist if you did not make your avatar yourself (credit is usually found in the signature of a member). Some artists may not require it, but it is always appreciated.

Signatures

  • Character images used in avatars are to be no larger than 500 pixels wide by 200 pixels high.*
  • You can include up to five images in your signature, as long as combined they do not go outside the total.*
  • Images used must be rated PG-13 maximum. This means that there is to be no character nudity, although allusions to nudity are allowed. Swear words are to be deemed ‘light’, and if at all possible, avoided (excessive swearing will be removed). If unsure, ask an admin.
  • Please credit to the artist if you did not make your avatar yourself (credit is usually found in the signature of a member). Some artists may not require it, but it is always appreciated.
  • Text is allowed to be used outside of the image, but is limited to 10 lines at the default font size, including blank lines. This is to ensure that signatures are not overly large, and to discourage unnecessary scrolling. If using a different sized font and wanting to know how many lines you can use, contact a staff member.
  • *Images not included in images are group stamps - images which are no larger than 200x50 pixels (WxH) each. Up to two of these are allowed in your signature.

Tables

  • Images used in table headers and footers are to be no larger than 500 pixels wide; the height is a variable, though no one image should be larger than roughly 400 pixels.
  • Images used must be rated PG-13 maximum. This means that there is to be no character nudity, although allusions to nudity are allowed. Swear words are to be deemed ‘light’, and if at all possible, avoided (excessive swearing will be removed). If unsure, ask an admin.
  • Please credit to the artist if you did not make your table yourself (credit is usually found in the signature of a member). Some artists may not require it, but it is always appreciated.

Consequences
Failure to abide by these rules more than three times will mean that you are no longer allowed to have graphics; any graphics people attempt to upload will be removed, and posts will be edited to remove tables
