DIOSCURI

The Dioscuri were Castor and Polydeuces (or Pollux), the twin sons of Leda and Zeus and the brothers of Helen of Troy. Because Zeus came to Leda in the form of a swan, they are sometimes presented as having been born from an egg. Pollux was a formidable boxer, and Castor was a great horseman. The Dioscuri popped up everywhere doing valiant deeds, saving Helen from fates worth than death, adventuring with the Argonauts, biffing away in battles and walking off with the prizes at sporting events. Four episodes from their careers are most notable; After Theseus kidnapped their sister Helen and carried her off to Aphidnae, Castor and Pollux rescued her; they also abducted Theseus' mother, Aethra. Later, the twins accompanied Jason on the Argo; during the voyage, Pollux distinguished himself by killing the belligerent king Amycus, who challenged him to a boxing match. When Peleus attacked and laid waste to Iolcus, in revenge for the evils done to him by its queen, Astydameia, the Dioscuri assisted him. Castor and Pollux also abducted and married Phoebe and Hilaeira, the daughters of Leucippus; Castor was then killed in a battle with the nephews of Leucippus, Idas and Lynceus. Pollux was granted immortality by Zeus, but he persuaded Zeus to allow him to share the gift with Castor. As a result, the two spend alternate days on Olympus (as gods) and in Hades (as deceased mortals).

The people of Dioscuri are wise, just and courageous. People in Dioscuri House are just, courageous and strong. They will fight for the right thing, and are not afraid to stand up to people. They believe that the legal system works, and that people deserved to be punished by the proper authorities for their crimes. They often join organisations such as the Order of the Phoenix to right the wrongs of others. Dioscuri is the lighter house in the school. They are also friendly and attentive. They constantly wish for peace, and will often try to mediate between parties to solve debates and arguments. They may go out of their way to make others feel comfortable. It is sometimes hard for them to keep focused on a specific task, as their mind jumps around from one idea to another. They are representations of sensibility.

The colour of Dioscuri is white, the colour of light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity.

In the House of Dioscuri there are two sub-houses, one for males, and one for females. The female house is Styx, and the male house Heracles.

STYX
Styx was the Goddess of the Underworld River and Unbreakable Oaths. The River Styx goes through the Underworld and is in the charge of the Goddess of that name. She's the daughter of the Ocean and had four children, Force, Might, Victory and Zeal who helped the Gods in the War against the Titans. She was rewarded with her own ten-channel river, a palace in the Underworld and dominion over the Oaths of the Gods. Anyone swearing such an oath has to drink from her ice cold waters to bind their vow. Quite a chilling experience as these drinks can freeze the blood and destroy mere mortals.

The colour for Styx is dark purple, the colour of wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic. Its animal is the Wolf, symbolising loyalty, success, perseverance, stability, thought, pathfinder, teacher, intuition, learning, and the
shadow.

HERACLES
Heracles was the demi-God some of Zeus and the mortal Alcmena. Hera, Zeus’ wife, was so jealous of him that she tricked him into killing all of his children. He travelled to the Oracle Apollo for guidance, who told him to endure the twelve labours. The Labours of Heracles were as follows;
First Labor: The NEMEAN-LION
Second Labor: The Lernean HYDRA
Third Labor: The CERYNEIAN-HIND
Fourth Labor: The ERYMANTHIAN-BOAR
Fifth Labor: The AUGEAN-STABLES
Sixth Labor: The STYMPHALIAN-BIRDS
Seventh Labor: The CRETAN-BULL
Eighth Labor: The MARES-OF-DIOMEDES
Ninth Labor: The Girdle Of HIPPOLYTA
Tenth Labor: The Cattle Of GERYON
Eleventh Labor: The Apples Of The HESPERIDES
Twelfth Labor: The Capture Of CERBERUS
Although Heracles succeeded in every quest, this only made Hera hate him the more. While he travelled everywhere doing his best to right wrongs, she plagued him with storms and evilness for many years afterwards. Finally, after many more adventures, including being sold as a slave, becoming a pirate and fighting for Olympus against the giant sons of the Titans, he died in a mix-up over a magic potion, and was accidentally tainted with the blood of the Hydra from one of his own arrowheads. But as a reward for all his trials and tribulations, he was offered a grudging kind of immortality and a share of the film rights. Reconciled to Hera at last, he married her daughter Hebe and now lives happily ever after.

The colour of Heracles is dark blue, the colour of trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, heaven, knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness. Its animal is the Horse, symbolising stamina, mobility, strength and power, coping under difficult circumstances, love, devotion, loyalty, the land, travel, life and death, intellect, wisdom, power, nobility, energy, freedom, wildness, divination, prophecy, fertility.

TITANS

The twelve giant offspring of Gaia and Uranus . They come in brother-sister pairs: Cronus and Rhea, Oceanus and Tethys, Hyperion and Thea, Iapetus and Themis, Crius and Mnemosyne, and Coeus and Phoebe. (The six sisters are also called the Titanides.) They were so big and painful in labour that poor Gaia couldn't bear to bear any more. So she got Cronus to help with some radical birth control and newly neutered Uranus was overthrown. After the deed was done, Cronus and Rhea ruled over the Gods and the world entered a Golden Age of peace and prosperity. Of course this didn't last as the Gods warred against them and a disgruntled Zeus banished them all to Tartarus Prison.

The people of Titans are respectable, strong and powerful. They are not necessarily power hungry, but they are not necessarily not either. People in Titans are strong and demanding of respect. They are often stubborn, and will do anything to get what they want. They take matters into their own hands, and can be likened to vigilantes. They sometimes believe themselves to be better than others. They as often as not have a disrespect towards authority. Titans is easily the darker house in the school, but they are not necessarily evil. They are representations of sense.

Their colour is black, the colour of power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery.

In the House of Titans there are two sub-houses, one for males, and one for females. The female house is Hecate, and the male house Ares.

HECATE
Hecate was the Goddess of Hidden Wisdom, Change and Darkness. She's also the Queen of Witches. But Hecate is not the evil hag that popular legend suggests. Her considerable power over nature ensured her continued popularity, but she's never fitted in with the crowd. Any crowd. She's very much her own Goddess. Her role and attributes are hard to sum up in a few words. She has the power of change, whether for good or evil, and is the one invoked when spells are cast. A good lunar calender is essential as the power she gives is related to the phases of the moon. That's why it's best to start new projects when there's a full moon. (If nothing else, at least you'll be able to see what you're doing.)

The colour for Hecate is dark green, the colour of healing, wealth, safety, protection, nature, ambition, greed, and jealousy. Its animal is the dragon (the Japanese, Tatsu dragon), which symbolises the breath of life, supernatural power, magic, strength, wisdom, knowledge, and guardianship.

ARES
Ares was the God of War. He was the son of Zeus and Hera, Ares loved battles and violence. Never mind which side he was on, so long as there was plenty of blood. His bloodthirsty sons Deimos and Phobos are in constant attendance, and if all is peaceful, it doesn't take long for his sister Eris to knock up a little strife. He was not very popular with most of the other Gods. He sided mostly with the Trojans in the War, and was wounded by a mortal with a little help from Athena who batted him with a rock, and he fled howling back to Olympus. Heracles sent him packing with an arrow in the thigh after killing one of his obnoxious offspring, and the Aloadae held him captive in a bronze jar for over a year because they could. His mortal sons were so vile Heracles killed two, Diomedes and Cicnus, and Apollo killed the other, Phlegyas.

The colour of Ares is dark red, the colour of blood, energy, war, danger, strength, vigour, willpower, rage, anger, leadership, courage, longing, malice, and wrath, power, determination, as well as passion, desire, love. Its animal is the boar, a symbol of the warrior spirit, leadership, courage, direction, lust, gluttony, fertility, prophecy, magic, protection, and hospitality.
