9th Year Styx; Transfiguration and Business

Main Information
Name: Lelani "ShaZi" Lexus Zivanya
Nickname: 'ShaZi', Lani or quite simply Lee
Gender: Female
Age: 19
D.O.B.: October 21st
Year: 9th
Blood: Half-blood
Wand: 10 inches dark mahogany wood with an Eagle feather and Hippogriff nail core.
Previous School: Schola Veneficus
Major/s: Transfigurations and Business

Physical Description:
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 132lbs.
Hair: Naturally black, though at the moment its streaked with blue, purple and even red.
Eyes: Teal (her right eye is actually lighter than her left)
Accent: Slightly New Yorken
Ethnicity: American; from Chicago, the windy city.
Other: Besides having a strong personality, physically her features are just as strong. Standing at an average height of 5'6", her body is athletically built, the eleven years worth of dance lessons evident in her every muscle. She's not painfully thin, weighing her 'suggested' weight nor is she incredibly bulk with muscles; she simply has the body of a dancer, lithe, resilient and yet strong. Having descendants ranging from Asia to west America, Lelani definitely has quite a mix of cultures and attributes muddled in her blood, giving her that distinct and unique look that she absolutely loves. With naturally smooth tanned skin and seductively curved teal eyes and full sensually shaped lips, she is quite a looker. From her mother's side she got the natural elegance that allows her to pull off almost any fashion, no matter how outlandish and from her father she got the cocky grin of confidence that exudes from her wherever and in whomever's presence she's in. On her lower back, what most people believe to be a tattoo is in reality a birthmark that is shaped like a Gardenia flower, hence, why her mother called her Lelani, which means 'Heavenly flowers' in Hawaiian.

When it comes to dressing, Lelani has a wide variety of tastes, from ghetto fabulous to rocker; it really all just depends on what mood she wakes up with and what gig she landed. However, regardless of fashion or what is in 'style', she will usually wear what is most comfortable, especially if she's just chillin' on a regular day. That of course means no high heels, no painfully short skirts or shirts and plenty of sneakers, slacks and handy wife-beaters. On the other hand, when she does appearances, performances and challenges, she can be extremely creative, mixing and matching some very interesting outfits and her hair for one is something that never stays constant. Aside from her often viewed 'weird' wardrobe, she does have a tattoo of musical notes spelling out her name with colored gardenia flowers around it on the base of her neck; nothing large, but certainly noticeable when she pulls her hair up. Piercings: belly, chin, right eyebrow and four on each ear.

Psychological
Personality: With her mother’s outspoken rebellious ‘never die’ attitude and her father’s charismatic hyper active nature, Lelani is certainly a good blend of righteous beliefs and vigorous determination. She is a tireless bundle of self assertion and natural charisma that gives her the ability to talk her way out almost anything or as in some circumstances, talk her way 'in' some places. Nevertheless, she won't lie in anybody's face nor 'tell' them what they want to hear just because. She's the type of person to see things for how they are and not how she would like to them to be. Although calm most of the time, particular pet peeves can set her off and with a red head's temper she is quite a challenge to deal with. Having her mother's sarcasm and her father's sense of mischief, visits to the detention hall were quite regular, two hour long debates of political, religious and controversial subjects ensuing with any student or faculty. Very much her own individual since she was little, she has never had the need to 'fit in', finding such a notion a nuisance and a waste of time and energy. So it comes to no surprise that her very unique way of being stands out clear from anybody else. Also, with a family as big and tight as her own, she's not exactly dying to have friends by her side, but she doesn't shun those who want to follow her and befriend her. Indeed, she has never been the 'follower' kind, but rather the 'leader' type... Just like her father.

Being insanely intelligent and having too much energy can be quite a dangers mix and in hands of Lelani, it is the seamless reason why she has been dubbed a 'rebellious troublemaker', but with only one session with her mother and father and the root of it all would be evident. Quite clearly she is very close to her family, rarely ever not getting along with one of them and surely no feuds between any of them. Of course, every family has their moments, but she's glad that over all hers is good.

She's not the type to brag and she detests those who do. On the downside, she can be overbearing sometimes and with her natural ability to take center stage, she can shadow those around her without meaning to. Her saucy temper can get the best of her, lashing out not just physically but verbally as well. Her barbs and brutally honest words can sometimes be interpreted as insulting. On the upside, she is very loyal to those she believe she can trust and is often times perceptive of people's needs. Her confidence allows her to be comfortable in most spotlights and in turn giving her an extra edge with handling people. Also, being as righteous as she is, she believes in many principles and will readily fight for them and not stand down for anything in the world; except perhaps her family.

History: Kristina Avani is the middle child of three siblings born from North-Eastern Europeans parents, and unlike her older natural scientist brother and her younger DJing brother, she was a very free spirit enjoying only the best in life and detesting the ordinary eight to five office routine. It is this reason why she studied art in college and became her a curator, designing and running art galleries, and getting paid for doing the thing she does best: hosting parties. Her liberal actions extended as far as her 'romantic' life, not really ever wanting to have one, so she jumps from lover to lover and although many have proposed, she has taken none seriously. Until she was twenty-eight, her promiscuity continued and though marriage was still far from the forefront of her mind, having helped her older brother Bradly raise his adopted daughter made her suddenly desire a child of her own. Finally, her and Hanz (of the more regulars) decided to go through with having a child, and they did, having in a cold and rainy October night beautiful Lelani Zivanya (taking her mother's surname).

The two never married but kept a steady relationship, Lelani mainly living with her mother and her family, though visiting her father quite often. There were hardly any ill incidents in her childhood, most of it filled with fleeting parties, dancing and oh so many pranks with her cousins. By the time she turned five, her mother, two uncles with their spouses and five cousins lived under one roof; mayhem was the word of the day within the household. Sharing a room with the only other girl cousin, Elise, was difficult at times since they had such different tastes in everything. Despite it though, she got along with her very well, her days at the Zivanya household her best ever. Well, how it could it not be with a gay uncle who was married to a man that was practically the cutest drag queen ever and his weekend fashion shows that involved everyone in the house including her and her mother, and her other uncle who had set the basement up with his DJ equipment and installed lighted tiles as the dance floor. Indeed, there was never a boring day and it was around this atmosphere that she grew up and loved.

Also, it was around this time that her uncle Ray decided to make a skill out of what she liked most and that was dancing. He had already taught her a couple of moves and styles, but she was sent to all kinds of classes, from the traditional like ballet and tango to the more contemporary like jazz and break dance. She was quick at learning something she loved and it took no time before she was at center stage as the opening and closer dancer at her mother’s more elite parties among the artistic communities. But her passion and tireless energy did not fall short there, her desire to learn how to scratch the turntable making Ray proud and willing to teach her everything he knew. As she turned twelve, she was already competing in DJ battles and walked out if not wining all rounds, then coming pretty close to it.

Now, the wizarding part of her blood did not come from her mother, but rather her father. He was never the type to keep much from her and so when she turned an age she would be able to understand, he told her about her wizarding heritage. Absolutely enthralled, she picked up on the subject immediately, whenever she was with him reading all the various books on magic and the wizarding world, the concept of game like Quidditch simply boggling her mind. Hanz also told her about his ability, which was pyrokineses, and warned her to always be aware if she ever does something ‘weird’ on instinct because she most likely would have an ability too, not mattering if she’s a half-blood. Praying she did, every night before she went to bed, she would place a piece of wood on the floor and concentrate really hard to have it burst into flames. What she didn’t know then was that even if she had an ability chances were that it wasn’t going to be the same as her fathers, but still, that didn’t stop her from trying. However, it had been a piece of metal, she would have quickly discovered the true nature of power. It wasn’t until her eighth birthday that she found out…

On her eighth birthday, Lelani went to her father’s house, his promise for a full day at the fair her main incentive. When she arrived she saw a couple of his friends that she knew already and a couple she didn’t. While her father finished getting ready, her curiosity got the best of her as she acted her way through a room that two of his friends were apparently guarding. As soon as she walked in, the hard slick steely surface of a safe was what caught her attention, three men surrounding it as they studied it. Impressed with her antics, her father decided to inform her of his actual profession, which was stealing. Him as his friends were actual professional thieves and instead of going to the fair, she wanted to sit down and hear all the stories he was willing to tell. Having grown fond of Lelani, his pals didn’t mind and were as active much through out the story telling. It was then that he explained the safe’s presence and how it worked, along with some basic ‘safecracking’ techniques. Thinking it would be fun, they let her attempt to crack the safe, but it being her first time, she couldn’t and she quickly got frustrated. As she did the lights suddenly began to flicker on and off and most of their jewelry began to attract towards the safe while the safe dragged towards her. Afraid that she’d get hit, her father tried to hold back, but whatever pull there was it simply was too strong. Then as she backed up, she closed her eyes not wanting to get hit and suddenly the safe repelled away from her. It was then that they both discovered that she indeed had an ability, but not pyrokenises like she thought, but magnetism.

Lelani realized as soon as her father did the immense advantage of her ability and their career of choice, because yes, she wanted to follow her father footsteps that had by then become quite extensive within that shadowed world. They wasted no time and he began working with disciplining her ability, teaching her ways of a master criminal mind meanwhile. By the time she turned thirteen, she was already going on jobs with them, working as either the ‘decoy’ or the ‘grease man’ ‘cause of her amazingly agile body and of course, as she gained more and more control over her power, dismantling safes became a regular habit. She didn’t like to keep secrets, but she did have to from most of her family except her mother Kristina, which she told her “think of it like stealing from the rich bastards, and giving to the more needy, which in the case, is us…” Knowing her mother well, she knew she would understand that and no fuss over it, though she had known all along that Hanz was, just not that her daughter wanted to follow that as well.

It was all fine until she was fifteen and Sierra, her uncle Ray’s wife, somehow, someway got wind of her and her father’s ‘whereabouts’. Still Lelani hasn’t figured out how she found out since she never talked about it to any of her cousins or mother while in the house for that matter, but she wouldn’t have cared if Sierra hadn’t done what she did. Out of all her family, Sierra was perhaps the only one who distanced her purposefully from everyone, never really having liked Hanz to begin with. It seemed that with the information she had mysteriously gotten, she went directly to the police and incriminated Lelani’s father and four other members, which landed them a deal for ten years in jail. Infuriated, her and his other friends devised a plan that would get them out of prison only a year into their sentence, but the five of them including her father had to move quickly after to Europe to escape jurisdictions. Not wanting to stay behind, as she turned sixteen, she moved to Rome with her mother and uncle Bradly and his husband, close to her father.

Although she had attended wizarding schools in the US from her eleventh year, she had never actually considered a school for those who had special abilities, so she most definitely is looking forward to it. Aside from her school curriculum though, one of her objectives is to find out how Sierra learned about Hanz and why she would do that to him or her for that matter. Meanwhile, because of the unfortunate incident, her father hasn’t been able to work ‘jobs’ and that means that she also has been low key. With a new year approaching, she hoping to change that.

Relationships/Family:
Kristina Avani (mother): Loves her with all her heart. She’s an exceptional mother, fun and enlightening as well as strict. Despite how many times other kids of teased her about her mother’s preferred social style, she doesn’t care, knowing that no matter what, her mother won’t put any man ahead of her daughter.
Ohanzee Mio (father): Otherwise known as simply Hanz, he is everything to her. Having been a major mentor in her life, she looks up to him a lot and seeks his advice concerning many things.
Bradsky (Bradly) Conroy (older uncle): He’s a natural scientist and therefore she considers him man, but in a loving way of course. Many times they’ve squabbled about the environment, his claims of her equipment not helping with the preservation of earth clashing with her claims that her equipment was built with ‘earthy’ materials, consequently being part of nature. A type of banter that shows her weird way of loving.
Carl Brenner (Bradly's husband): To Lelani, he’s the cutest drag queen in her book and the sweetest man she’s know. Her weekends with him and his ‘fashion’ shows will forever be in her memories and the fondest years in the Zivanya household.
Elise Kanali (adopted cousin): The only girl cousin she has and adores very much. For all their bickering on such small subjects, she truly has been a wonderful girl to grow up. Though it’s odd that while Lelani turned to be a ‘Thiefian’ Elise became a cop.
Antony Marius (adopted cousin): The second child that Bradly and Carl adopted and perhaps the most romantic and loving boy. His easy going personality won her over and his attempts to learn French brought her to tears (of laughter that is).
Nathaniel Thomas (adopted cousin): The last adopted child of the ‘amazingly gay duo’ as she so affectionately dubbed her uncles, and unlike the artists that made up most of the family, he was a nerd of unparallel proportions which always managed to make her laugh with his silly impressions of Einstein.
Raykan (Ray) Axel (younger uncle): Perhaps the hippest and coolest uncle there could be with almost an infinite number of CDs from all around the world. A master of his trade in his own right, he has also been a very important mentor in Lelani’s life and the one always in the forefront to support every single challenge she took on.
Sierra Morena (Ray's wife): At one time, Lelani cared and loved her, if anything than for the simple reason that Ray has chosen her to be his wife and mother of his two great boys. Unfortunately many of those sentiments have changed in the last two years, her mysterious actions unable to escapes her thoughts.
Seth Aulus (cousin): Ray’s first born and perhaps the weirdest of them all, which means a lot. However, good times never fell short in his company and with an inquisitive mind as his, it was always a thrill ride to have classes with him.
Shawn Ashton (younger cousin): Somehow very opposite from them and more like his mother. He’s very calm and quite, unlike Lelani’s loud self, but sweet nonetheless and a great guy to call if one ever wanted to know the ins and outs of car.
Mikoto Zyn (grandfather from father's side): Despite his old age, he simply has so much more left in him and by just being with him, she knew where she got the endless energy from. Having grown up a thief as well, Lelani could very well listen for hours on end his exciting stories from his golden days.
Haya Sefu (Mikoto’s wife): A woman of Hindu heritage, she’s beautiful and crafty, having taught Lelani how to cook Asian meals that would have men begging to marry her, or so that was what her grandmother said.

Miscellaneous
Pet/companion: A three year old Boa Constrictor named Rusty.
Knowledge/Talents: --
Special Ability: To put it in simplest terms, Lelani is basically a conductor of electromagnetic energy, a generator sort to speak. On instinct, she can switch the polarities of objects so they can either attract or repel each other or from her. Also, since polarities aren’t the only waves affected by electromagnetism, she can also detect all kinds of waves from video and radio to infored and even ultraviolet light. Though there isn’t much she can do with those waves, she can still feel or even sometimes see them. As a conductor she can also affect electricity up to a point, like being able to turn on machines by just sending invisible waves at them. She can even send a weak forms of electrical ‘jolts’, though it really isn’t her strongest point. Still, it is helpful in many occasions. *ack…there’s more, but it’s 4:35am and I have to wake up in three hours and so, I’ll finish explaining her ability tomorrow, ‘cause I’m literally falling asleep on the keyboard and with that kind of tiredness, physics won’t settle well with me… :D

Notes: Although she is American, her heritage consists of many nationalities and cultures. From her mother’s side there is Romanian, Turkish and Polish and a bit of American. From her father’s side there is Japanese, Mongolian, Hindu and African; so in other words, she a pure mutt. Also, as a DJ she is known as ‘ShaZi’. The name is Arabian and belonged to an ancestor of hers and she loved it so much, she decided to use it, emphasizing it the way she writes it.

I'm leaving the rp sample just 'cause I love it and don't want to change it :D

Role-playing sample:
Thirty minutes before a premiere art gallery party with the usual madness of getting ready…

Checking in the mirror, Lelani fixed any stray hairs or jewelry that felt out of space and once she decided that everything was fine, she turned to leave the room. However, her attention was suddenly caught by her cousin Elise who was currently still dressing herself. Disturbed by the choice of patterns and colors, she couldn’t help but question Elise about it. “What are you doing?” It was a simple question, but her cousin knew she meant much more behind it. Testily, she looked up and with a tired expression gave Lelani the privilege of an answer. “I’m dressing, what else does it look like damnit.” With a snort, she shook her head, “you’re obviously doing something else, ‘cause you do not mix plaids with stripes…”

“You do it all the time!”

“Yeah, but I do it with style” corrected Lelani, knowing that even though she had very peculiar sense of fashion, it was nevertheless fashionable. Receiving a very sour look from her cousin, she said nothing else, her uncle Carl stepping in at that moment with a compassionate expression on his face as he saw what his daughter was wearing. Not appreciating getting her feathers ruffled further, Elise shook her head, “oh no, don’t you give me that look, I don’t care, I’m wearing it…” she warned him, not even bothering to move. “Oh honey, but it’s just…” Figuring she had already made her point, Lelani ‘saluted’ her cousin and left, muttering under her breath, “right…

Walking down the hall, she rubbed her tummy as the hunger she felt from an hour ago resurfaced. Immediately her feet headed towards the stairs that would eventually lead her towards the kitchen, her main objective before they left to the party. However, living in a house as packed and as mad as hers was no easy task and most of her objectives never managing to get done. That night was no different as Antony jumped out of his room, almost throwing her down as he did so and ran like there was no tomorrow, screaming at the top of his lungs. Catching her balance, she turned around to see what had caused him to react that way and as she did, the answer was right there in front of her. In Nathaniel’s hand was a huge tarantula that threatened to fall out of his hands if it wasn’t because he kept it steady. “What are you doing?” was all she could ask, wondering what the hell her cousin was thinking. “I just wanted to show Antony that the way their anatomy works…” Placing her left hand on her hip, she sighed, “oh and the fact that he is deathly afraid of spiders meant nothing…?” With a mock look of surprise, Nathaniel pushed his glasses up and shook his head, “ah, that particular detail escaped me… Oh Antony, wait up, I still got the legs to cover with you” he bellowed, a huge grin on his face as he did so. “Right…"

Rolling her eyes, she continued on her destined path, leaving Nathaniel to run after Antony in mischievous attempts to scare the hell out of him. Not able to even walk a couple of feet ahead without getting interrupted, she turned to her right into the one of the study rooms, the sight of her uncle rummaging through the old LP record trunk catching her curiosity. “What are you doing?” At the sound of her voice, Ray looked up from the pile surrounding him and smiled delighted in seeing her. “I need your records Lee” he said in response, standing up as he lazily pushed the records to one side. “Why?” she inquired wondering where all his records had gone. “Because you’re brilliant mother gave all the good ones to Sanford for last week’s party and they haven’t returned it yet…” Ah, so that was were they had gone. “Alright, just take it from my room” she said, shrugging as she turned to leave. Nodding gleefully, he walked out with her and suddenly turned with his eyes closed as he yelled in shock. “Gah! Sister! Oh my…Gah!” It didn’t take long for her to find out what he was fussing about as she turned and saw her mother standing in the doorway of her room topless. “Gah, mother! What are you doing?!” she shouted, turning to avoid from seeing her shameless mother. “I’m trying to find my dress” she said, obviously peeved. “Gah, why don’t you find a braw meanwhile” suggested Lelani, opening an incredulous eye to her mother, her uncle Ray making a serious of disgusted noises and faces. “If someone hadn’t taken my dress, I wouldn’t need a braw!” she retorted and before Lelani could say anything in return, she heard Carl’s voice again. “Oh honey, I meant to give that back to you, but the dry cleaners took so long” he said as he approached her, Kristina’s expression changing to one of gratefulness, “oh how sweet, you put it in the dry cleaners for me…?” Sighing, she decided to leave them gushing over ‘how sweet’ each other is and made to walk her path determined not to be sidetracked again; of course, easier said than done.

Climbing down the spiral staircase, she turned towards the kitchen but was yet attracted to another scene that she captured from the corner of her eye. Standing in the entrance of Bradly’s workshop, she watched quietly as he poured different color paints into medium sized bottles. “What are you doing?” she asked, the phrase alone becoming her favorite apparently for the night. Without needing to look up, he explained his purpose, “this is incase there’s anyone with authentic fur coats at the party” he said, a small smile in place. “Why?” suddenly came her next question, but with the look her uncle gave her, she understood the simplicity of it; if that how she could dub it. “Ok, fine, stupid question, but you are aware that authentic fur coats are almost obsolete” she said, having had very conversation with her uncle Carl no more than a week ago. “They’re not obsolete enough...” he said, closing the bottles, “and besides I’ve already consulted this with your mother and she agrees, though we won’t do it while the party but afterwards…or well, before, all depending on how much she dislikes them.” Fond memories of past riots instigated by her uncle and mother came to her, making her smile and sigh at the time. “Yeah well, if anything just save me a couple” she said, certainly not wanting to miss out on the fun.

Determined as hell not to be distracted again, she covered the sides of her eyes and walked straight towards the kitchen. Finally within its confinements, Lelani eagerly opened the refrigerator and began scoping the available nutrients, though unfortunately there wasn’t a wide selection to pick from. Taking out to make a simple sandwich, she began the process that would eventually lead to a delighted stomach, but the usual disturbance that had made its theme for the night continued. Before she could even finish her sandwich, screams and shouts could be heard as all of them began filing down to the first floor. “Lani! C’mon, or we’ll be late!” bellowed her mother. Grunting, Lelani slammed down the dull knife, “can’t I just finish my sandwich?!” she asked, though she already knew what the answer would be. “Lani dear, there’ll be food when we get there, c’mon honey!” Cursing under her breath, Lelani rushed everything back into the refrigerator and slammed the door, dragging her way towards the front entrance with a still empty stomach, a long night of mingling, dancing and if lucky, ruining authentic fur coats ahead of her.
