Other: With a martial artist’s physique, he takes pride in showing it off, usually wearing wife-beaters and any kind of shirt or blouse that’s got a good amount of ‘cleavage’. He usually goes for dark clothing, though loves such simple combinations of black and white and nearly always carries the family dagger entrusted to him by his uncle on his calf hidden away by his pants. And most often than not, he’s found wearing worn leather fingerless gloves.

He has a golden and red tattoo of a dragon drifting from his left shoulder blade along the front of his neck and chest. He also has another tattoo past his waist near the end of his ‘happy trail’ that reads “Love Me” in Japanese.

Psychological
Personality:
Suave, fierce, intense, passionate, independent, loyal, strong, and amorous are among the many words that could define Han alone. Although born in Japan, he was raised in Brazil and as it was, he adopted many cultural aspects of Brazil, one of the main things being the love and appreciation for good quality women. It’s a place where beautiful women are abundant and with his devilishly good looks, he didn’t have a problem finding a girlfriend at every corner. However, despite his womanizing tendencies, he certainly does not treat them as such, having been taught by his mother and sisters to always respect a women, love them deeply and treat them right. It is one of his vices, believing himself in love with every girl he dates or sleeps with; a usual occurrence his friends have to deal with no doubt. But it is the same spontaneous and loving nature that appeals to most people in general, his genial way of being most often than not earning him the upper hand in most situations. Most people don’t expect this however, as he’s usually spotted reading with furrowed eyebrows, carrying with him perpetual expression of concentration and seriousness. With familiar company, that is quickly replaced with brightening grin and a mischievous glint to his hazel eyes, the humor and wit that he’s quick to let loose suddenly very evident through those some eyes.

Although he hasn’t been recruited yet, most of his family either has ties or is directly connected to the Yakuza and it is in this atmosphere, this source of beliefs and convictions he was raised to adhere to. Reasonably, his sense of honor and family loyalty and obedience to the family is high up there within his principles and convictions. He is still however not to the extreme, but enough to warrant worry for anyone that would want to mess or threaten his family and honor.

Being the third of four, he was exempt from most responsibilities of the household and family, unless one of his older brothers died, and as so, has enjoyed the privileges of a prominent family without any of the pesky responsibilities that usually come with it. “The Free Spirit” they call him, as he was fiercely independent as well. Many cannot believe that he works, let alone that he likes to work, but he does, enjoying the satisfaction that comes with earning his own money and being able to spend it however he likes (usually on motorcycles or dates). Of course, one of his more annoying traits is the fact that he could be overly cocky sometimes, especially when it comes to subjects he’s not only well versed in, but a master, like marital arts and racing.

History: Within the northern east regions of Japan, Kakunodate more specifically, where there is still the largest and best preserved samurai district, a healthy boy of ten pounds was born on a late cold April evening. There was much excitement for Akio and Manami Kinawa since it was their third son and together they decided he would be Harlan. Disappointed they were not as he grew up a good, obedient and smart boy. For the first two years of his life, he lived in the posh lavishes of the Kinawa and Ishiguro (two of the highest ranked and still thriving samurai families) family mansions, never a moment of strife or sadness to taint his most early childhood. Late in the year he had turned two, his sister and last child to the Kinawa family was born and with the new arrival, a decision was set into motion as part of the Kinawas packed and moved to the other side of the world in Brazil. Akio however, having been just appointed to head treasurer of the district’s Yakuza stayed behind for what was believed to be temporary. Later he would not expect the betrayal that ensued in the following months, leaving him an outcast in both his home town, and Brazil, to drift for the following years from region to region in Japan under a forced alias. It wasn’t even safe to contact his family in Brazil, though the threat didn’t lie with him, but his wife and children. To keep them safe and out of harm’s way, he remained silent through all those years, sending gifts and money as an anonymous person. His wife suspected and even knew to a certain degree it was him, but never said a word to anyone for fear they’d find him and kill him for sure.

Meanwhile, Manami did the best she could raising four children with the help of her brother and father in law, her position within the family holding her in honor and importance. When it came to Harlan, it was evident from very early on that he was a very independent spirit, with much energy and charisma, many times reminding Manami of herself as a youth, and this was probably a reason why he was one of her favorites, even though she never directly expressed it. By the time he turned twelve, both of his elder brothers had moved out, so for the remainder of his years, it was just him and his sister, their bond inevitably growing closer and much stronger than with any other sibling or even relative, though both are still very attached to Manami. Childhood meanwhile was very good, always exceeding in whatever manner of habit or hobbies he acquired and was placed in. It was safe to say that he was very much unprepared for what would happen in his later teen years.

From the moment Manami heard of Akio’s banishment, instead of bearing the pain of dishonor upon her children, especially the younger ones of the four, she told them their father had died in Japan, and Harlan was only two when they moved, so he hardly any recollection of his father. The only father figure he grew up to know was his uncle, because his grandfather had always been very distant from the children. So it was a shocking surprise to receive a letter at sixteen from a man who called himself the Sunflower samurai talk spoke of his father and that he was alive and doing extremely well as a duelist. In the same stroke of ink, Han was challenged into a duel with none other than the Sunflower samurai himself. With the hope of finding his father alive, he took it and quickly departed heading straight to Japan with his sister that insisted to tag along despite his many objections. He had spoken to the headmaster then of Hogwarts and explained that it was a family emergency, and was excused for a period of time, though he never had imagined that it would take him nearly two years to meet his journey’s end.

The day he arrived, he had encountered the local Yakuza and it was then he realized how quiet he had to be about his whereabouts and his actions to avoid any further detection, and most importantly, from anything leaking to his mother or worse, his grandfather. There was a reason he was told his father had died when that wasn’t the truth, and if he alerted anyone of his mission, he would never find out. After a lucky victory (the Sunflower samurai was years beyond his skill and experience, but admittingly too arrogant), he was soon challenged by yet another samurai. After a couple of rough duels, it wasn’t beginners luck anymore, gaining more knowledge and experience than he ever could at the dojos in Brazil, and it wasn’t a surprise as he soon began to develop a formidable reputation that still stands ‘till this day in Japan and in other communities. The duels had a purpose though, for it certainly wasn’t because of the killings, each one meaning that he was one step closer to finding his father for it was within those circles that he roamed, soon discovering that his father was the legendary One samurai who earned his title by fighting and winning nearly all duels, known mostly as the Sun samurai.

After a year and half, Han began to grow tired of the fights and of having each opportunity yanked from under him whenever he got too close to reuniting with his father. When he received a challenge from the Blade samurai, he had decided it would be his last one, arriving at the agreed upon location as the sunset flittered the sky. The duel had been the most intense and strenuous he had ever endured, many moments in which he thought, believed it was the end. If it hadn’t been for that year of toughening and sharpening his skills, he surely would not have survived, but in the end, it was his extra bit of speed that gave him the upper hand, landing a clean cut across his chest and gut. It was the very early of winter, with a fresh layer of pure white snow that no longer seemed as pure as the blood from his opponent stained the beautiful landscape...except it wasn’t the Blade samurai he realized much too late with a start, having approached the body to remove the long strands of hair that covered the man’s face, a headband in white with the sun in red and letters that read ‘ONE’ on it. Falling to his knees, he knew without a shadow of a doubt that his most amazing and challenging opponent was not Blade, but the Sun samurai, the One…his father.

He killed his father.

Shattered and broken hearted, he vowed with his father’s lifeless body in his arms, that he would never fight again. Han and Sol did the best they could in coping and aiding each other through the tragedy that graced their once simple lives, taking a couple of more days to give their father a proper burial and the recognition of honor that they believed he so justly deserved. The answers to what happened many years ago was still a mystery, but at least now they had a better idea and knew they wouldn’t find their answers in Japan anymore. Now, just because he had made a vow did not mean that others would not come, rumors of his skills and of finally defeating the Sun samurai spreading far and wide, the rank as the One having been passed to him and the legacy of the Sun samurai as well. It is without surprise that Han absolutely hates that name, even ‘till this day… Although they loved Japan, there was too much pain and hurt and as soon as they could, they headed back home and to Hogwarts to continue their education after a lengthy narration of what happened in their absence. At least the Headmaster was understanding, but perhaps that also had to do with the fact that both he and Sol had omitted the last showdown with their father. They had promised each other neither would ever speak of it again nor share it with any other soul. It was a secret they would take to the graves with them if they could help it. A promise they have kept to date.

After graduating from Hogwarts, Han moved back to Brazil for a while before he finally decided to move back to Europe in Greece where Sol had been looking for a University. Elysion of course was one of the top choices and it wasn’t long before he found himself there as another addition to the bright eyed populace of the student body. At least, to cope with him he had two of his closest friends from Hogwarts there, Ryan Kavanaugh and Brianna Rayne.

The question still remains however, not only about his father, but of the man or men that viciously set the murder in place. Han could be many things, but a fool he wasn’t. It did not escape him the fact that the challenge was sent under a different name, perhaps even doing the same to his father, which therefore left only one option: they were set up. Despite his apparent ‘disinterest’ however, without his sister’s knowledge, Han still looks for clues whenever he can…

Family: In order of ‘closeness’ to him.
Sol Song: Quite essentially the air in his lungs, and the spine that keeps him straight. Only separated by two years, there never was a sibling rivalry or a competition ‘stage’ between them, growing close and staying close from a young age. All that he has ever experienced in life has been right next to his sister (except for relationships of course).
Manami Kichira Aside from the simple fact that she’s the mother, she is a single parent that over the years and circumstances has grown softer, being particularly special, supportive and much more of a mentor to her youngest children than she ever was with her first two boys. Her wisdom, incredible strength and nurture has helped to mold Han and Sol, and it is because of her that he is the man he is and he knows it, and always makes sure that she knows how much he appreciates it everyday. Yeah, he’s a Mama’s boy and anyone who has a problem with that better be prepared for his physical ‘reassurance’.
Uncle Kenshi He is the closest to a father figure Han has ever known and ever will. He is a strong and constant presence in his life that is in the larger part responsible for his stability, balance and sense of responsibility, especially when it comes to family. He is the one man that has protected and always provided emotional comfort for Han, guiding him in his darkest hours and giving him inspiration to become a better man that he ever thought he could be.
Grandfather Ryuu The patriarch of the Kinawa family and Head Yakuza of the whole South American region, it comes as no surprise that as a man, as a character, he is larger than life and much more than the average person can handle. He has never been the sweetest or most nurturing grandfather, often times resorting and preferring harsh discipline and demanding expectations than pampering and pats on the back. Regardless however, there are those rare moments when all is alright within the community and family when Han and the others can enjoy of his peaceful company. Although not extremely close to, Han has grown to love him without resentment and respect him as the amazing and inspiring figure that he is.
Second eldest Daisuke: Although they’re only ten years apart, and much more similar in personalities, neither have created a concrete bond between then. The strain and awkwardness may not be as prevalent and uncomfortable as with Takeshi, more often than not their time together actually pleasant and distant, but just as estranged.
Eldest brother Takeshi: Thirteen years older than Han, by the time they had moved to Brazil, he was already deep in trainings and tutoring sessions with Kenshi and Ryuu, childhood for him and Daisuke quickly taken for them as they were prepared for the eventual day their grandfather and uncle died. Much of the family burden and responsibilities were thrusted upon their shoulders early on, his resentment having grown over the years that has created a large gap between him and Han, and unlike their sister Sol, Han never bothered to bridge it.
Father Akio (deceased): Unfortunately, Han never had the chance to actually meet or get to know his father before he died (more like killed him), but if he had, he would have realized just how wonderful he was, and why he was the way he was. His many habits, his humor, his natural way of being, many of it is accounted by his father. Indeed, it’s something Manami has always said, “you’re so much like your father, if he was here right now, you’d feel like you were looking in a mirror…”

Miscellaneous
Pet:
A year old Iguana named Tank
Knowledge/Talents: Aside from knowing four languages (Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and English), Han’s more than just formidable in martial arts, having trained from the age of four and learned nearly every single kind, including the styles from the most remote areas of Thailand, China and even Japan.

Being as fiercely independent as he was, and despite the extensive vault his family had, nothing compared to the satisfaction of earning his own money and keeping for himself. That is why he has earned himself a very respectable and flourishing career in modeling. Aside from his main ‘income’, he also earns extra money through races and martial arts tutoring, though he’s really selective of the person to receive the training. Not all, as he says, are born with the gift of war.

Special Ability: As he turned ten, his training sessions at the Dojo became more intense, much more and there were moments he could barely keep up, his mind wandering off and wishing he were somewhere else instead of there. One day he found himself sparring with a particularly spiteful kid that managed to get under his skin and in one moment when he closed his eyes and pictured his mother’s bedroom and their pet cat Zuko playing inside, in the very next second that he opened his eyes, he was physically in the room. Absolutely terrified and unaware, at first he had sworn it was one of the many trickster spirits his uncle constantly spoke and warned against, but when it happened a second time, a third and all in his ‘control’ he realized that it wasn’t so. As long as he had an idea or a mental image of where he was going, no matter how odd or sketchy, he could go there just by closing his eyes and with his mind willing his body there. Oh, and what a nifty ability teleportation turned out to be…

Through the years he’s trained extensively with his ability, widening the range and scope in which he can teleport within. He’s yet to reach the peak of his ability, but he’s much better off and further ahead than many his age and all thanks to the thoroughness and discipline his mother taught him. With her own Time manipulation ability, Manami knew exactly how and on what to instruct when it came to mental abilities and was a great force of support and experience for Han to learn from.

To date, Han can only teleport in a radius of ten miles from point A to point B in one shot. Although the mental image of the place he plans to teleport to doesn’t have to be in great detail or know the exact specifications of the location, he cannot teleport anywhere that he’s never seen before or seen. For example, he can actually teleport to a place with a picture alone, but if he doesn’t know at least where it is located geographically, the chances of him getting lost are greater and perhaps even ‘stuck’ in within the portal his mind creates to jump from place to place; one of the downsides he fears the most to ever encounter. Although most often than not he only uses the ability for himself, he can actually teleport other people as well, but only if he holds them or maintains physical contact with them one way or another. It has been hinted that he is actually able to teleport people on their own, but he has yet to reach this potential and perhaps not for a considerable amount of time even if training.

Notes: Aside from the emotional bond of brother and sister Han and Sol share, they also have a very deep psyche connection that has still to progress from the basic warning level in which they can sense whenever the other is in danger. As a cause of this and their own powers, whenever one of them think of the other and whisper their name, they are either teleported to or the other is to each other. For example, if Han is within a relatively short range from Sol and thinks of her whispering her name, he can teleport to her or teleport her to him and this works the same for Sol as well. It’s the only time she is actually able to do any kind of teleportation.
