Primavera was trotting down the streets of Manehattan this fine yet chilly afternoon. The recovery had moved swiftly yet destruction was still evident if one looked closely. Snow had fallen earlier that morning and the painted unicorn was careful where she stepped not wanting to trip up on the slippery ground and ruin the contents of her bag. Her dark purple-blue saddlebags were laden down with notes, dozens of quill pens, a few bits, and an unopened Sarsaparilla. The mare was careful with her step as she levitated a notebook and a pen out from one of the bags as she began to record what had changed from the day before. Ever since the battle Primavera had been out on the streets gathering information and recording the damages and reconstruction process of the city. She was a huge history buffer and had written books about previous conflicts and long lost civilizations, but this was the first time she was writing about a historic event in the present. It would be so all ponies of the future would know the facts about what had happened. She already had a stack of notebooks two feet and two inches high from all the information and interviews she had already done, and once her research was complete she would condense the information and write the book. All her archives of the ordeal were locked away safely with a special magic infused lock she had imported from Itaily. Her family was always known to be very overprotective of what was theirs, and Primavera surmised that trait was prevalent in her as well. But unlike her family who locked away frivolous items (and the occasionally interesting pedigree or historic documents) her precious books and notes she locked away were for the good of all ponykind. The mare scribbled effortlessly with the levitating pen seeing as that was the only thing her magic was useful for, levitating objects and manipulating them. Pretty soon she was lost in her own thought as she wrote away, her legs on autopilot as she strolled the snow covered streets of Manehattan. Her research would soon be completed. |

On this fine December fourteenth... Kettle Cornflakes was humming to herself as she trotted down the road. True, she had nothing to eat anymore. And yes, one of the many resturants she worked for had shut down again, this time because the manager was quite frankly horrible with bits, so she'd probably need another source of income before she starved. But did that matter? No. What mattered was the little foals she'd managed to get meals to today. And maybe Rook would ask her on another date tonight, that golden-hearted goat! All in all, it wasn't a terrible situation, aside from the practical, but really practical concerns could be easily alleviated with a bit of breaking and entering, or the even more legal act of just calling in some favors. Her eyes wandered and landed on a brownish unicorn... my goodness, if she didn't know any better she'd think it was her daughter-in-law's mother! But no, Shooting Star had a different cutie mark, was living in Fillydelphia, and quite frankly was a bit older. Still, it was quite the coincidence. A scholar too, by the looks of it... hmm. Perchance she could sidle up and convince this pony to hoof over a few bits to a friendly mare. Yes, that would work quite well... "Shooting Star!" Kettle tackled the scholar in one of her trademark bonecrunching hugs. "It is being good to--Oh my, you are not Shooting Star, I am sorry so much." Releasing the unicorn, the earth pony giggled and smoothed out her mane. "It is simply that you are looking so much like her!" |

The mares’ idle walk through the recovering city was suddenly cut short by a strange purple blur that proceeded to hold her in a vice hug. “Oh buon Dio!” She yelped in a startled voice as her pen and notebook flew through the air. With wide eyes she concentrated hard on the two flying objects, catching them before they hit the ground in a field of her magic, lifting them up to a safe distance away from the wet, wet snow. The pony that had her in a bone crushing hug (which made it quite difficult to breathe mind you) had called her Shooting Star. Not many ponies mistook her for another, seeing how not many ponies were painted or were heterochromic. But the pony came from behind, so she just might have looked like this Shooting Star. The mare suddenly let her go and Primavera fell swiftly on her hindquarters. A shiver went up her spine from the sudden icy chill of the snow and the mare shot up quickly to shake the snow from her tail and rear end. The mare smoothed out her mane as Mave carefully put her notes and pen into the safety of her saddlebag. The purple mare apologized profusely, the painted mare rose a hoof to calm the older mare. “It is quite alright, if anything that was the most interesting introduction I’ve ever had.” She laughed. The Manehattan and Canterlot elite were always so droll in introductions that it almost always made her yawn. “Allow me to introduce myself, I am...” She stopped herself mid sentence, maybe this was a perfect opportunity to fly under the radar. Whenever she used her full name, or even her first name ponies would normally become nervous around her. Heck ponies in Itaily only need see her to know what family she hailed from. She certainly didn’t want to scare off her new acquaintance. “...I am Mave, and who might you be?” She asked, coming up with a quick shortened version of her name. |

"I am Kettle Cornflakes," the earth pony mare replied with a smile. "I am being so sorry, you look so much like-- Buon Dio? ¿Eres de Itaily? ¡Tengo familia allí! Quitar unas pocas generaciones, sí, pero es bueno conocer a alguien de la patria. Equestrian es mi segunda lengua que ves.... Oh I am sorry, you are speaking Nickeraguan, yes?" Kettle shook her head and giggled. "Sometimes I am forgetting... What are you doing with this?" she added, prodding the notebook. "I do not be meaning to pry, of course, I am being curious. Perhaps you are an artist from out of town?" |

Oh boy it seemed like she set things off now! She suddenly realized that she let some of her Itailian slip out and now this Kettle Cornflakes was suddenly speaking in Nickeraguan. At least it didn’t seem like she knew who she was yet. “Itailian actually, but my family lived in Foalingo and we knew many ponies who spoke it.” Mave replied with a smile, wondering if she still knew how to speak it. It was easy to translate when other ponies spoke it, but she hadn’t spoken it in so long she found it hard to remember. “Aprendí a hablar ya que la familia tiene amigos en Castaille... oh I’m sorry, but I fear I’m a little wet behind the ears, haven’t used Nickeraguan since I was a foal!” She laughed. Itailian and Nickeraguan weren’t the only languages she spoke, or was pressured to learn. She also knew Prench since her grandparents on her mother’s side still lived there, but even now she could feel like speech starting to slip from her mind. Kettle pointed to her notebook and asked if she was an artist from out of town. “Scholar actually, I study and write books on history. I’ve lived here to quite awhile but I’ve been busy with business where I used to live, and I normally spend my time at the Manehattan library where I work.” Mave explained. She wouldn’t be surprised if many ponies have actually seen her on the streets, considering she spent most of her time in the city in her apartment or at the library, but recent events have coaxed her from her book fortress. “You said your name was Kettle Cornflakes right?” She inquired, opening her bag with her powers and taking out a notebook that seemed to be too full to actually stay together on it’s own. Flipping through the pages she skimmed to find something within the depths of her writings. “Ah yes, I thought I heard that name before during my interviews, you’ve helped with the relief after the battle yes?” She asked. she gathered notes and many ponies spoke of a Kettle Cornflakes and how she fed many of the confused and in need ponies of the city. |

"What? Oh no no no. I was simply to making sure that there was food to go round!" Kettle giggled and waved a hoof dismissively. "It is what I am always doing for the peoples in my area. Not much to have between us, but what we have we share; after that whole thing I just expanded a bit." She coughed awkwardly. "I will be mentioning, though, that giving is not something that always can be done... That whole thing took so much of the food that I was of storing, you see, and to be honest I am trying to find some scraps to perhaps last me through the week. Maybe you would be agreeing to continue this over a meal of some kind? My talent may be cooking, but cooking without food is only possible for some species." |

“Oh don’t be so modest! You’re doing a great thing, I wish I could do what you do, but sadly my cooking skills aren’t quite, good.” She laughed. Things she cooked always try to eat her instead, or more normally turn out really, really burnt. Even with magic a her disposal she was nothing short of an airhead when it came to cooking. She could never really pay attention to whatever was going on in the kitchen, and even if she watched it like a hawk she still managed to have things blow up in her face. “And oh yes, of course, do you have any place in mind to go to?” She asked when Kettle answered with an offer. Mave knew of many places to go eat and purchase food in the city, though she hasn’t visited any of the places as of late. The mare had ended up surviving the past few weeks on stored up coffee and cold sandwiches(the one thing she couldn’t mess up). She wondered if any of the markets or restaurants were still in business... |

"Well, there is this one bakery I remember... Quite a long time ago, my daughter was being a very silly filly and actually stole an entire birthday cake from there to give to her crush." Kettle Cornflakes giggled. "The owner and I are being close friends since then, you see. But they do make the most amazing sandwiches, if you are knowing how to ask. Come quickly, vaminos!" She grabbed Mave and dragged her down the road. "I am certain Bluebelle is going to be ever so glad to meet you, that cow loves to go on about her history. Well, unless Gerald's around, if you are catching my drift..." |

“I say that’s a splendid idea!” Mave said, a bakery sounded much better than an upscale restaurant. Some good old homemade cooking, she wondered if they would have any wraps... Her train of thought was suddenly cut short by Kettle dragging her down the road, those earth ponies were strong! But then again Primavera wasn’t the heaviest of creatures, especially after these past few months. She began to trot at the same pace as her new friend while putting her large notebook back into her bag thinking she would be getting a lot of note taking done now. “So you said you have a daughter? Does she live in Manehattan to?” She asked as they jogged along the still cracked and broken road. |

"Oh, no. She travels very much, I think... Or she used to. She has been settled though, her and her wife live in Canterlot. I am having one little grandcolt already, and I am thinking that soon I might have another!" Kettle giggled. "Ah, foals are being the blessing of life, yes? To go without knowing the warm sensation of helping a young child rise to become a true adult... it would be simply horrific. Are you having any children of your own miss Mave?" she added. "I am knowing an orphanage nearby, loving mothers are what they should have and you seem of loving mother kind. If you ever drop that pen of yours!" |

“She sounds like a great pony” She answered with a nod as Kettle went on. She began to wonder if she had ever met Kettle’s daughter or her wife on her travels, it was hard to figure out seeing as she had a hard time remembering names and faces. She could recite every pony to ever go down in history, but sometimes she had trouble remembering the names of day to day ponies. Kettle then asked if she was having any foals of her own. The thought almost made the young mare blush, she had thought of it before but only fleeting, and she had never been in a serious relationship before. “Oh no, no I have no foals of my own, I haven’t really met my special somepony yet to have any.” She answered. It didn’t help her mother kept throwing random stallions her way. The old purple mare then started talking about adoption and Mave pondered the thought. “You know that’s not a bad idea, I have a friend who used to live in an orphanage, she helped me get my cutie mark.” She said. She was such a good friend, but sadly she remained in Canterlot while Mave moved to this city. They wrote letters often and she always sought her out whenever she was back in town. “And I don’t have my nose in my notes ALL the time, just these past few months.” She smiled. Once the book was done she’d show Kettle she wasn’t just a bookworm. |

"Well you had better be looking soon, yes?" Kettle's face darkened. "If you miss out on finding a good companion, the choice will be out of your hooves...." They arrived at the bakery, and Kettle opened the door to reveal a cow and a griffon behind the counter in a rather intense makeout session. This being Manehattan, her only reaction was to roll her eyes. "Bluebelle, you are having customers! Please be showing decorum?" The cow broke off the kiss, regained her composure, and gave the pony a rather longsuffering look. "Kettle Cornflakes, this is my bakery and I'll run it how I want." "If any of Gerald's feathers are being in the dough, I may have to call the cops, yes?" Kettle gave the two a mock threatening glare. "But that is being beside the point. Mave here is repaying favors! I am asking, say, three bagels?" |

“It’s already been out of my hooves...” She muttered to herself as they neared a quaint little bakery on the corner of a street that had seen less damage than the main roads. There pair walked into the small store to see quite an unusual sight. A cow and Griffon were behind the counter doing what best could be described by the unicorn as canoodling (although this was probably a lighter term to what they were doing). Mave being a young mare and not used to seeing such displays began to blush and giggle. It wasn’t everyday one saw an interspecies relationship, but the world was in a rather peaceful era so it was becoming more common. The couple was interrupted by Kettlecorn who proceeded to playfully scold the cow. Primavera regained her composure and came over to the counter with Kettle as she placed her order. “That sounds fine, how much for the bagels?” She asked Bluebell. |

((Haven't done a thread in Manehattan in a while, and since this one's labeled as 'open', I'll join in. If there's any problems with me being in this thread, I'll delete this post. My posts are not usually this long, by the way.)) Johnagold, a member of the Apple Family, just to inform any new members who may not be familiar with him, was in the bakery sitting at a table across from his cousin, Orange Sherbert. He hadn't visited with Sherbert since that boring business party last spring, so he figured that today, he'd go to Manehattan to see what his younger cousin was up to. Manehattan was so busy compared to tiny Ponyville, and even moreso than his hometown of Appleoosa. Johnagold only went to Manehattan when he was visiting family or if it was absolutely necessary. He wasn't much of a big city pony, but going to Manehattan every once in a while wasn't torture or anything. It was just very, very different compared to what a farmpony like Johnagold was used to seeing. Spoiler: click to toggle Last spring, Johnagold, his friend Moon Chaser, and Orange Sherbert had made a business arrangement that had gotten Granny's famous zap apple jam sold in Manehattan. According to Sherbert, it had been a major success, and he expressed desire to order some more jam to be sold in Manehattan for next year. When the zap apples returned this coming spring, a few crates of jars of zap apple jam would be reserved for Sherbert, who claimed that he had a 'special plan' for some of the jam. There was one problem with visiting with Orange Sherbert, though, and that was that the orange stallion tended to tell very boring, long-winded stories about doing rich pony stuff. Sherbert tended to spend money on useless things, as well, and that frustrated Johnagold just a tiny bit. Apparently, Sherbert had bought a new yacht with some of his money gained from the zap apples and had yet another one of his put-you-to-sleep boring parties on it. Also, Sherbert's mansion recieved minimal damage during Heinrich's artillery barrage on the city, so that was good. And even better, Sherbert and the Oranges had participated in the recovery effort. At this table in the bakery, Sherbert was sipping a latte while Johnagold was updating him on what had been going on at Sweet Apple Acres. He was telling Sherbert about Big Macintosh and Cheerilee's new foal. "Ah don't know if you know 'bout this yet, Sherb, but Big Mac and Cheerilee just had another foal last month. Fuji's been provin' herself to be such a great big sister to your new cousin Little Mac, you should really try to come over and visit all of us sometime!" Johnagold pulled a picture out of his wallet, showing the new foal to his cousin. Sherbert nearly melted from the cuteness of Little Mac. "Awww! I'll try to set up something, does next week sound good?" Johnagold nodded. He and Sherbert noticed that two mares had entered the bakery. Johnagold and his cousin were too busy talking that they hadn't noticed them come in, and now they seemed to be in the middle of buying bagels. Edited by JM95, Aug 12 2012, 06:33 AM.

Bluebelle brought out the bagels, giving Mave a smile. "That'll be twelve bits, miss. And trust me, you're in good hooves with Cornflakes here. How's Fireflare by the way, still stealing cakes?" "Oh no, she has actually been settling down! Expecting her second child very soon." "What? Fireflare? As a mother?" "I know, it is being unexpected at all!" |
