Out of the frying pan and into the fire. One moment she had been chased by Pyralis himself, the next she had thought she was safe. And now she was… Where in the world was she? And what in the world was that thing? And an alicorn? Ooh what was that? Damn it was dark. Scary dark. She didn't like this dark. It was scary. Glamour didn't know what was going on. "Mommy?" The alikirin foal mewed in Prench. Yes. A foal. This wasn't an illusion either. Glamour was an actual factual foal.

And, as a note, it hadn't been Pyralis chasing her before. Glamour had just made a mistake. and another one. Somehow appearing here. She'd just felt pulled here. And figured that it had to be better than being chased by Pyralis. She looked on her back, blinking. "Wings?" Where in the world had those come from?

More warriors came, though Ra knew not from where. They were not of his make. But a few of them he recognized. The stallion from the islands, the one who played mortal games of trickery, and one of his oldest friends. That Stone had never sworn loyalty to Ra seemed, in this last moment, irrelevant after all. He managed a grateful laugh, though it croaked drily from his throat, for the 'alicorn'.

More importantly, though, they brought with them strangers with weapons of condensed light and a sunbird. Even as the first of the shapeshifters cleared great swatches of smoke from the air in unnatural green light, Ra felt a distant recollection of his own strength return.

It was not nearly enough to make a difference. But perhaps it would be enough to force his wayward warriors to leave him to his fate alone?

As he began reaching into the hearts of those around him, to fold the world and send them away, There was a soft displacement of air, followed by a burning pulse of magic that caught Ra's attention, and broke his focus on the spell. He swayed under the kickback of the failed casting, unable to react appropriately.

There was a foal. An innocent baby here. And for one long moment he was struck with mind numbing terror. He could not allow this to happen!

Before he could do anything about it, though, Swali and Ndege took action, diving back to the ground to shield her bodily as a sickening hiss carried on the winds. Those who had been fighting for so long would recognize it as an endless conglomeration of death rattles, as if entire villages collapsed and expired with this breeze. It carried with it passive magics that induced subtle fear. Not terror, not pain. Just that delicate sense of wrongness, as crept upon mortals when they had not slept for too long. Enough to make actions jerky and reflexive rather than smooth and well trained. The certainty that danger lurked in each shadow and around every corner.

Now, it did.

More and more dancing hints of darkness, coalescing into the vaguest implication of mass. A great, looming weight that could not be seen, only sensed. The smoke swirled and waved, washing against the barrier. Those who lent it their magic could feel the weight of each gentle caress of smoke and shadow, driving cracks into the little minds. But the ward held it back, a miniscule dam competing against the tides, until one of the aerosphinx mages faltered and fell, unable to keep up the spell work after so many weeks of endless casting.

Where she collapsed, thin whirls of shadow slipped in, slinking like snakes in the shadows of the grass under the cover of the leaking smoke. With the barrier breached, even only in part, the words tore through mortal ears, driving many of them to the ground in pain. There were layers upon layers of meaning and spellwork encased in each syllable, as though it spoke ten thousand languages at once, all competing for dominance, leaving behind scraping ebbs of definition inside the minds of the listeners. The unicorns, in particular, were weak to the attack as it preyed on their abilities to sense magic, and which they no doubt were untrained to compensate for. Still, some half of his warriors, and indeed all the zebras and earth ponies, proved themselves up to the task. Including little Moon.

How sad, that the confirmation of Disease's gift came too late to be of any use to Light. Did the voices affect her at all, living as she did beyond the bounds and borders of Apep's realm?

Ra's voice was hoarse and high when he made his counter bargain, slowly and with an obvious lack of focus, "Ancient and exhausted of life's wonders, ten thousand years hence."

The rasp of Apep's response seemed almost like laughter. "Y̨̱̬ͩ̉͐ͪ̌ŏ͎̞̥̠̟̦̦̓͗ͩ͋ͩ͞ù̲̙̼̠͉ͫͫ̋͘ ̞̣ͮ̊̅̓̾͢w̧̭̫̖̻̗͛͗ͬ̑͒̅͐͞ȍ́ͣ̄̃͊͐͏̗͖u̼̫ͯͪ̑ͭ̋̃̌̈ͥ͝͡͡l͍͙̝͎͖̞̳̍̋̏d̜̻̱̐͋̉̆̂̆̉͑̃ ͙͔̘͖͇̫̼̈̽́͟g̴̝̱̻͖̋͌́̈́̑̊ͫ͘i̫͇̝͖̙̫ͯͩͣ̋̂ͯv͖̗͎̮͈̫͕̲ͦ̐̽̉̍ͧ́ȅ̤̪͍͕̯͎̭̇̍͢͟ ̰̖̹̻͈̞͌̄̊̓̈́ͤt̵̆ͤ͌͏͙h̷̦̮̤͇͖͍̼͕̘̄̊̿͑̓͑̽ͣ̇͠e̹̫̖̩̋ͫͮ̓ͫ͛́̇m̟̯̬͖̟̳͊͐ͥ̌̃̎̓ͣ͡ ̸̖̟͋̄͗̇ͪ̏ͦ͋͜͡t͆̌҉͉̝̱́ͅỡ̳͔̲̱̻̯̄͂̂ ̡̲̦̭̄ͤ͌̎͊̽̀m̙̳͈ͣ̑̊̌̋̓̚ḛ͙̘͇͖̭̲ͮ̔̂ͤ͝,̫̜͙̙̗͔͛̀͘ ̴̨̭̥ͣ̋̓̂ͧ̊̈̎̚͞ẗ̶͔̤̝̜̮̓̔ͣͩ͠ͅȍ̢̥͚̰̮͗ͫ̎̃̉ͯ̄ ̣͙͚̰̠̼̣̼ͬͭͥ̃ͯ̅͡t̠̞̱̼͇͇͉̳ͪ̆͐ͥ́͗ͭ͊ͧõ̷͈͍̙̗̬̯͊ͫ͊͒ͯ͒͊͘ͅŕ͕͙̭̩̗͎̮̌ͩͦ͂̂̿͌ͩ͜ͅm̵̧̝̲͖ͯ̀̄̎ͅē̫̣̗̗̤̍̿ͥ̉͛̑̚n̷͇̦̝͈̜̓̈̑̂̎̊ͅt͕̩͈̙̤̼͈͓̲̔̽͐̆̿̐̑̍̑͠,̴̴͎̩̳̖̦̐͑͊̆͠ ̪̻͇͛̓ͮ͋͗̓̃f̻͈͊͊̿ͪ̀̐̐͊̀o̗͚͙̰͖͍̓̃̏ͣ͞r͑͒͌ͫ̄҉̴̗͍̘̣͈ ̮̱͎̝̞̠̽͞s̢̻ͭͯ̿̌̇̿ͧ͗̎͠o̮̻̺͇̘̗̪͔̻ͬ̎ͥ̌̂ͩ̋̚͡ ̨̪̦̄̀l̼͖̰̖͆ͩ͌͌ͫͨo̵̦͔̙̘̭͔̗͙͌͛̿ͤͮ̾̀̔͜ṅ͇̩̳̅̏͆̽͆̈̆͡g̼̣͖̮͗ͬͪ͢͞?̷̷̩͖̏̋̚ ̨̨̤̝̭̺̰̱̥̗̏̄͆̓͝T̶̡ͨͧ̍ͭ̄ͥ͏̦͉ě͕̠͓̰͙ͤͅm̡̰̖̝̖̭̝͚̠̄ͣ͂̋̏̈͗͛͜p̦̫̅͑ͫt̽̾͂̆̈̑̉̍ͪ͏̣̲̙̭̝̱̕͡i̵̢̯̻̅̄̂ͬ̀n͓̜̐́ͮ̋̈̕g̡̳̰̙͉̩̜̮̺̋̅ͤͩͩͭ̌ͮ͐͠.̙̜̆͢ ̛̭ͤ̒̒̈́̌ͤ̆B̶̠̯̣̖͍̐ͣͮ͗̕ǘ͈͎̗͜͢t̢̼̳̖̣͚ͣ̽͒ ̅͑͐̆͐̓̉̕҉̯͠I̷̧̹ͮ̈́͆̔͞ ̢̲̘̭͕͎̳̫̣̏͒ͪ͟w̵̛͉̻̘ͥ̍̆̚͠ͅo̡̯̩̤̎̈͑̿͛̏u̶̧̨̮̻̣̩ͥ̒l̺͎̪̙̠ͤͬͪ̇̕ḑ͚̐ͮ̃ͣ̍̍ͨ̍͂ ̨̛̻̟̜̲̹̩̭̱̒̈́ͥ̿r̵̥͇͒̀a̤̙͎̞͚̺̣̰ͫ̒̌͆͐͜ẗ̻̳̬̳́̏̿̌͋ͥ͋͛ͬ͜ḫ̨̪͋̅́̀e̵̤͓̰̗͓͂ͪͮͣͫ͒͝͝r̝̼̆̈͘ ̛̱̰͓̱̋̓̈́̐͂̿́̓n̯̈́̊ͨͫ̓̉̏ͪo̧̢͇̫̤͖̥͉ͭͨ̒t̘̘̝͍͊̏̒͟͝ ͐ͫ̽̄̅̄ͧͫ͝҉̪̰̗͇͍̣̜ͅe̷̛͔̭ͬͭ̑̔ͩx͗ͯ͐̊͂͛͏̵̞̝͠t̨̧̹͕͙ͨ̆ͧ̃̽͗̔̀ͅe̵̥̟͉̖ͭ̾̃ͦ̅̀n͚̙̲̯̩͕͓̲͔͑̽ͤ͌̓̒̉͡ď͚͂͡ ̵̭̤͕͉͇̬̔͐ͫ̽͊̅ͦ͠ͅṫ͉̭͖͊͛̊̊͑h̡̞̬̬̼͔̩̹̃͌͠͡e̝̝̩͓͍̺͚̓͗̒͐̾ͅi̶͖͖̻͓̣͗̅͑̀r̡̼̭̮̺ͪ̇̈́̃̋͘ ̸͍̙̻͍͔͇ͮͪ̉ͥͭͩ͡v̸̡̫̞͔̅ͬͣ̊e̝͈̩̥̱̠̹͒͐͊̌͘͢ŕ̙͖̤̬̩̤̂̎ͮͭm̧̰͔̭̳͙̠̰̬͖̽͊͛͋̉ͣ̚͡i̧̹̝̬̞̹͉ͫ̓ͭ̑̏ͣ̎͆̀ṋ̢̧̜̤̪͓̘͔̬̐̾ͩ͛̌õ̮̮̪̖̞̪͋͑̊̿̎͠u̪̰̩͂ͬ̆ͬͩ͌̆s̩͉͚͓̜̰̺̭̭ͮ̚ ̬̥̗̥̪̔̈́ͬ͐͑̕l̛̖̹͙̟͈̳̓̆ͣ̉̽̈̃̎͢į̣̖͓̩̬̼̱͙̑ͧ̄͞v̶͖̮̱͙͍̘͓̭ͬ̌e̹̰̳̩ͦ͌ͪ̓͛ͤś̶̱̗̈́͂ͮ̚.̶̲͎̱͈̦̈́̎̂̌͛͊ͩͣ̕"

Galaxy, as a unicorn, was highly sought after by the dark magic; it wanted her, it hungered to corrupt and drive her to madness. But there was a problem with her that most unicorns (indeed, most things didn't possess: She didn't 'see' in the traditional sense of the word.

Magic was basically her second sight; meaning that anything magical presented itself as a 'visual' representation of the spell matrix that made it up. Admittedly, the more powerful the spell or subtle the spell was, the more complex the resulting matrix appeared to her. However, no spell, not even the most subtle and powerful spell cast by a god, was without weak points in the matrix. By sending her own magic into the right places in the matrix, she could counteract the effect. There was a spark of magic fizzling out around her, but she discounted it as she noticed something else.

Ra, for all his weakness at the moment, was causing the same effect she had on the magic inherent in the words without noticeably casting a spell.

The pink unicorn almost facehoofed then and there. 'Sun' god, and Apep was a 'Night' god; it was so bucking obvious! "Keep the lion alive!" She shouted out, actually using her magic to amplify her voice to get it to as many as possible. "Light, fire, lightning! I don't care it's just a bucking nightlight spell; if it can somehow be traces back to the sun, DO IT!"

And there was one more thing. In Equestria, songs had power; while it was a long shot if the power still worked with mad god now trying to corrupt them, it would at least distract them from the things he was saying. Galaxy began to sing, her voice still carrying out across the battlefield as she charged forward.

"We'll drink together
And when we drink we'll drink together, not alone!
We'll drink together
And when we drink we'll drink together, not alone!
All For One, and One For All!
We'll drink together
And when we drink we'll drink together, not alone!
All For One, and One For All!
We'll drink together
And when we drink we'll drink together, not alone!"

Nocturne

Mitsugi winced as he heard Apep's voice, the sounds scraping and tearing at his mind.

He dropped to the ground, his claws clamped over his ears and his teeth gritted against the pain as he fought to hold his grip on his sanity. Little by little, his mind started to crack and crumble. His eyes squeezed shut, even as he bared his fangs and let out a growl of pain and desperate attempts to keep his hold on his mind. His eyes suddenly snapped open, bloodshot and darting around, pupils dilating and shrinking rapidly as his mind warred between feral madness and sanity.

Mitsugi gave a strangled cry as he squeezed his eyes shut again. It was... It was too much!

And then, he heard a voice.

It was her.

His chosen mate.

Mitsugi struggled to his hooves, fangs revealed and a rumbling growl coming from his chest, and leaped forward, flying over Galaxy with a roar, his eyes glinting with a feral light as he flew.

"This could be our last battle and you still call me MadaARRRGGH" Moon clutched at her head in pain as Apep's words wormed their way in and tore at her very soul "Ill-bred son of a serpent" she spat out, the words at least making her feel better. Moon continues to plot a chaotic course around Apep, trying to distract him from the other combatants. She had been dismayed by the sudden appearance of a foal, though Nedge and Swali seemed to have the matter well in hoof.

Truth be told she also been somewhat dismayed at the apperance of an advanced stealth ship, even if it did suffer the flaw of looking like a stealth ship. But she'd make sure to steal it, or at least it's secrets, if it managed to survive the current battle.

"Light, fire, lightning! I don't care it's just a bucking nightlight spell; if it can somehow be traces back to the sun, DO IT!"

Of course! Galaxy was wrong, she was right but she was wrong. Ra had told her himself, the Moon was his greatest ally. It didn't need to be traced to the sun, it just had to be light. Well if one tomcoltish pegasi element could clear the sky of clouds in ten seconds flat how hard could it be?

It only took her fifteen to uncover her namesake, it's brilliant white light shining off her armour. She moved through the rest of the sky, a thousand or more pin pricks of light, each said to be a dead hero, shined their lights onto the ground. Lancing through Apep and lending what little strength they had left to Ra.

"You're wrong Apep, all the creatures of Gaia, all the honored dead cry out for vengeance upon you. Today we're not ponies, or zebra, or sphinxes. We're Mongeese."

Moon continued to dart through the sky fanning the flames while dispersing the smoke to let the stars and Moon shine clearly; assaulting apep and lending strength to Ra from both above and below.

"We'll sing together
And when we sing we'll sing together, not alone!
We'll drink together
And when we sing we'll sing together, not alone!
All For One, and One For All!

There were many with gifts in this fair assortment. A few who might even rival Apep one day. But it was not discouraged, for they were nothing, here. Nothing at all. This was his land, now.

And so, when a very clever, very gifted horse began nattering in a way that, perhaps, was intended as distraction while making moves to clear the sky, Apep was quick to extend its will to the smouldering coals, and with no great effort, simply heated the undercoals to the edge of burning, before summoning a few dozen of his own compatriots- immobile, rotting corpses- to fuel the filth.

Great, oily gouts of new smoke, stinking of burning hair and flesh moved in almost as quickly as the kinder ash-dust was pulled out.

It said nothing, but the rattling breeze that the shadows used as voice seemed to taunt and laugh at the foalish efforts.

Icefox grinned; if they wanted light, they would have light. "Kalidus, do your thing!" The phoenix took off up into the sky, before lighting up in it's fullest finery. A moment later, the light had been restored to the plain, not as much as they would've preferred but infinitely more than had shone over them a moment before. Of course, he was still dealing with the voice and pressure grating on his mind, but he shoved it aside for the moment, joining in the song with Stone while Blackflame spent all of his attention keeping his mind whole.

Glamour accidentally let loose a gout of flame out of her mouth in her panicking hyperventilation. Huh? What was that? And why was is all weird? There were two colors in there. She'd not seen many fire breaths out there, but it still looked a little weird. Nonetheless. It was light. And light was apparently needed to scare off the boogyman. "Sorry." She said in Prench to the two things that were shielding her, unsure if she had burnt them or not from her initial panicked fire breath. She didn't know how it had happened. Or why she had wings. But the boogyman had to be beat. So she angled her next just so, trying to avoid scorching the two things, Swali and Ndege, and let out another stream of multihued flame, silver to blue. How odd.

Her head was aching from the boogyman's words. She didn't like him. He wanted to... Do stuff.

Noblesse sits up there in the sky, observing events as they happen.

“Miss Mary, if you would be so kind as to deal with that smoke?” He comments to one of the three pegasi that had accompanied him, in this case a very specific black-and-lightning-maned pegasi.

“On my way Bossman,” Mary said drifting past like a leaf on the wind then back around to the other two pegasi. After a quick conversation, the Weather Witch and her two apprentices begin flying in a complex loop around the edge of the battle line. They prompt the winds to pick up the voices of the singers, tying them together, amplifying them, and adding in the sound of ghost instruments. Guiding the resulting song on the winds, they lead it to confuse and mislead the smoke. They couldn’t stop the smoke from being created, at least not permanently, but they COULD stop it from adding any more to the layer blocking the stars. After that it would just require Moon to clear the stars again.

Seeing that was good, Noblesse directs Jack to take him down to ground level where he goes around to making sure everything is as ready as possible, including sending one of the NPC unicorns that had accompanied him to fill the breach in the shield, as he did that he began to think of a plan.

Perhaps the horsefolk of the North had grown stronger in the centuries since Apep had last seen them in any great number. Perhaps these were their greatest warriors. Whatever the reason, it was pleased by their persistence. When they finally gave in to him, they would be invigorating.

One already ranged dangerously close, his mind in shambles. It would be easy to consume him. But before it could make any move against the winged kirin, another of the wretches sang out a command, and a familiar, unpleasant foe reared its head.

The sunbird. One of the oldest allies of Light, and a great boon in itself. It shone like a beacon, calling to Ra a soothing song of power and rejuvenation. It was not at all comparable to daylight, but it was enough to bring him to his feet, to bring a sheen and glow to his coat, leaving him still a dying wretch, but at least a divine one.

The song of his warriors was not a familiar one to him, but it seemed that perhaps Swali and Ndege had met it in their travels, but the mechanics of it were simple enough.

So, he too joined the choir, his own baritone rumbling against Swali's bass, with Ndege's soprano weaving in and out above them as she so often did in flight.

We'll fall together
And when we fall we'll fall together, not alone!
We'll fall together
And when we fall we'll fall together, not alone!
All For One, and One For All!

The virtues of music were not built upon Light, but in this time of darkness, there was power within them all the same. Power enough for Ra to finally make the move he had been silently crying out for since the beginning.

We'll fall together
And when we fall we'll fall together, not alone!
All For One, and One For All!
We'll fall together
And when we fall we'll fall together, not alone!

The breech in the material of the world opened, and snapped shut upon itself faster than could been seen, and she spell of teleportation collapsed on itself. Again.

Beneath the smoke, the hissing laughter of Apep returned, and a coil of dark smoke shot towards the sunbird, plucking it form the sky and wringing its neck. It would recover soon enough, of course, from something like death. Apep could have no true control over such a strange and horrid beast. But it plummeted, broken, to the ground all the same. "N̮̯͓͐̂́ͨó̻͚̱̆̀́͗.͎̥̫̥̜͇͒ͣ̿͊́ ̦͑D͇̲̰̦͕͕i̞̗͌͊d̛͈͖̯̩ ͓̇̏̂̇̌ÿ͎͇͎̙̱͈ͬ̃ͦ͝o̡̙̙͌͛̀̃ͤ̆u͎͖͖̤̘͗̊ ̮̌͊̌ͯͬ̊ͨn̼ͬ͂̍͂̿ͫỏ̰̙͕̹̱̫̹t͎̝̝̃ͤ ̵͍͉̫̬̻̒l͙ͫ̈́͒̿i̶͎͖̯̼̻͕̊ͣ̐̔ͤs͗t̘̮̠͉̪̓͑e͉̿͟ń̺̟ͭͯ̎͊̍̉ͅ ͥt̩͈͔͔͉̘͛ͩ̾͊͂o̲͙̫͈̭͓͖̾͒ͦͯ̎̀̆͢ ̳̻̺ͮ͐̔̋̊͗t̖̤͙͑̈h͎͐̎ͫ̽̄e̛͚ͪ̾ ̻ͨ̌ͮ̽w͈͍̪̝̘̓̐͂o̬̰̫̗͖̻͑̀r͉͈͇̭̺̟̟͘d̶͈̤͚͈͎͈̞ͭ̉s̡̖͙̱͉̭̾̊ ̢̼̯̯͑ͭ̾̅y̹̺̐̓ͣ́ȯͩ͒̆̔̋͜u̜̹̖̼̜ͮ͑ͬ́ ̵͔͈ͩͪ̋ͧͧ͂́s̹̻̮̫̒a̵̳͋́͒ñ͓̮̟̤̦̖ͦg̰͚̳͈̞̪̲ͨ̀̇ͯ?̞̒ͧͪ͋͌̐ ̛̹̠̗̼ͯ̑ͯȲ̂o̤̣ũ̞͈̞͕͙̞̲͊͆͞ ̦͔̫̲̺͇͆͡w̻̼̻̒̑̉́̔͑i̥̎͑l̝̻̠̹͆͌̅͑l̠̙̮̦̗̗͖ ̨̫̐a̦̔̑͟l̡͓͉̲̣̤͒l̤͉̳͉͍̖͇ͣ ̛͆ͮ̉ͪ̍ͫf͕͕̎̿̋̿aͫ͡l̯̗̙ļ̺̠͆̓͒͒͋́̾ ̤͇͉̠͓̣̩t̶͖̭̳̙͙̞ō̶̮͇̳͎͒ͥg̞̲͓ͪͬ̍̐ē̙̖̪̹̏̅̄̋ț̰ͮ̑͗h̞̼̖̠͕̤ȩ̳̏ͧ̊r̰̲͚̟͖̤̣ͩ͌ͥͬ.̭̳͓̯̤͂ͥͬͣͯ̚͞"

It had been toying with them. They had never stood a true chance. In a great, world-warping movement, the shadows separated from the smoke, growing into eachother, swelling and undulating like a mass of writing maggots in shades of black and blacker to form a great dome over the assembled combatants.

"R̩͚̪͖̳̭̄͜e͎͈͈̖̼̅̇ͯ͜s͍̱̉͋͗͒͛̄ͦ͞t̛̰̒." The word came from all directions, spoken in one language that fractured into ten thousand by the time it reached mortal ears, so that the great cacophony demanded sleep, peace, relaxation, tranquility, sloth, stillness, rest, serenity, drowsing, falling, collapsing, smoothing, soothing, calm. Things that competed with the great sense of gut wrenching incorrectness of the dome of crawling shadows.

Only one mortal, the fallen aerosphinx mage, obeyed, her body going still as her spirit left it. The rattle of her last breath was quiet and subtle, too much so to be heard by most. But it was heard by Apep, and it took action on that cue, slender tendrils of the shadowstuff tearing away from the dome like vines to cling cloying to the necks of all the combatants.

"I͈̲̖͇ͧͬ ̸͍̆͛̓s̩̩̹̳ͪ̐͐a͚͚̕id͖́ͧ̀̂̆ͩ͢," Came the magic laden ten thousand-words as Ra dug his claws in, taking advantage of the weak glow he still emitted, visible now in this darkest place, along with a keen sense of smell and millenia of magical experience, to find the nearest target. Beneath him an unfamiliar unicorn stallion hit the ground, his binding loosened enough to spare him from the greatest effects of the next command. "Ŗ̛͓̮̩͉̠̬̗ͪͭ̽͂̌̚̕e̵̛̙̱͉̥̯̩͚͍͔ͭ̊̅̒̇̎͊ͦͫ͛̀̋̆̍ͥ͢ş̜̗̪̭̩͇͚̺ͦͯ̄̔ͣ̐͠t̸̻̰̣͓ͥ͐̋ͧ̎ͣ͊̀.̴̗̳͓̠͉͖̺͕͊̅̐ͧ͑ͧ̄ͬ̎͌̄ͩ͊̆ͤͮ͒̂́̚͝ͅ."

Swali conjured as quickly as he could a spell of luminescence. A small one, used more for making entertaining puppets than anything else. It cast a hazy light, like glowing smoke, within the dome. It came to just soon enough to let the rest of them watch when, as one, the unicorns and mages of the group fell, loose limbed and wide eyed, their bodies collapsing, but their necks and head still raised by their dark nooses.

All save two. One, of course, was expected. Swali's bargain of service had been an armor unlike those of most warriors, but well suited to the task. He was no meager mortal, not so long as he sat upon his native soil. But what of the other? Of the pink unicorn?

For the first time since its arrival, Apep's aura of confidence wavered. But, that was fine. She was merely a powerful mortal mage. Odd, but not impossible. And not nearly the most dangerous thing in this battle.

A dozen more of the wavering tendrils of darkness separated from the rest to double and redouble the guard on the strongest of their deranged fighters. While the rest were bound only with one intangible line against their throats, which did nothing to restrain them, the loops curled around Moon Chaser's tail, and traced the lines of her legs and neck. One each for her wings, another for her mouth. The crawled over her body, dragging her to the ground. "Ý̤̍̍̉̍ͣ̚ͅǒ͇ͅu̢ͥ̉r̓ͥ͑ͨͪ̇ ̭̻͙̞͑̿ͩ͒̒̆͠ȗ̗̺̙̲̖̠͚ͨǹ͐̚͏͈i͢c̫̗̖͎ͦ̋͋̇͠o͍ͣ͒̅ͨ̅r͙͉͑͌ͭ̏n̺͑ͫ̃͒͂ͨ̚͟s͏̪̬̠̭ ̬̙̘ͣ̑̓a̧̦̖̪͚̤̎͐ͮ̾ͩr̳͈̙̄͗ͦͯê̩̹͍̖̜ͮ̇ͥ̊ͣ̋ ̙̘͓̮̻̗̻ḏ͕̱͓ͮ̑̄̅̽̚͠e̛̬̤͉͍̩͆̿͋̈ͭͨa̯̱̗ͮ́ḑ̙̯͗ͪͥ̚.̜͔̔ ͯ̐ͥ̋͏̞̩̟̪̦͓T̥̘̺͙͓ͥͦe͇̓ͮ̑̌ͯͨ̇l͟l̜̘̗̝͖ ̰̳̫̪̲̮̏̈̔́m̢̼͐͋ͯ͌e͈͛̄̚͞,̢̼̭̬̺ͪ͒̈ͧͅ ̊͗̾͒ͣB͚͝l̟ͫ̔̑̈́ͤ̚ö́̾̑̑͑ͬ̍̕o͍̳̘̲̓d̙̳͈̒̃͌͗̽š̸̘͒͒͐̔̔̅u͙̗͕̫̫͞n̷̺ǵ̛̪̤̯͔̃̿̄ͩͅ,̰̳̳͍̫͈ͭ̃̀͑̅ͅ ͗ͥͭ̈ͬ́w͉̟̱̞̺̩̯̅ͯ̈́̚h̩̲͗͆̉͌ͧ̇o͔ͪͧ͒̿̿̑̀͘ ͇͖͖ͅd͚̗̭̪̏̓̾i̹̰̇̾̈̉ͫ̕e̜̖̞̘̤̮͛̆͂ͯš͎̞ͮ̀̑ ̥̻̠̯͔̬̅̽͋ͅn҉̺e͎̲̭̼͡x̴̭̭͕͓̹ͪ̓ͭ̈́ͯͭͅt̮̱̙͙̖̳͈ͮ͊̐̆͞?̮͔̯̯͙͚̂̅̀ͮ"

The blackness drove itself into her, through ears and eyes and every opening, leaking down her throat and into her body, still exploring, not yet stripping away her life, though it would be so easy. This place was Apep's, now. It could not be rivaled or stopped. Only Ra had ever been worthy to try, and he was wavering on twig thin legs. So, Apep analyzed its prize slowly, relishing in it. Let the mortals scurry as they saw fit.

He sensed that which another destructive god has seen within her, and was quick to cut short her answer. Nocturne

Mitsugi heard the commands.

He faltered for a moment.

He collapsed.

..................................

And then he rose again. A roar, one akin to that of a full-blooded Dragon in its ferocity and rage, a scream of bloodlust and a desire to destroy.

And he lunged, flinging himself at Apep, his wings flashing and flicking through the air, sending a flurry of invisible blades from his wings.

He flew at Apep. He slashed with his claws.

He struck like a beast possessed, attacking and then darting back, before darting in to drive his claws into Apep again.

He raged, his mind all but gone, though through the blood haze, he heard Galaxy's voice, and Moon Chaser's.

He recognized them. His mates.

One of them.

Her body invaded by the serpent.

Unacceptable.

Unacceptable.

She.

Is.

MINE!!!

Mitsugi loosed another scream of bloodrage, his wings flashing again and sending a multitude of wingblades at the tendrils as he struck the ground and clamped his jaws down around one, two, three four! All of the tendrils entering her through her head.

He grabbed them and pulled, trying to pull the evil from her.

SHE IS MINE!

That was the unspoken, enraged message sent by Mitsugi in his maddened state, his eyes all but glowing with his madness.

And Mitsugi pulled, trying to tear the enemy's tendrils from his mare.

Apep would not take her!

NEVER!!!

The battle raged, the smoke and fire of it seen for miles around. It was enough to draw the eyes of anyone, even one so jaded as to look down upon anyone that was not what he was; not that he didn't look down in a more literal sense as well.

Boipelo, one of the giraffe warriors sent from their homeland to ensure that the world (and their species, by proxy) survived what was rapidly looking to be an end to all things, narrowed his eyes. His tall vantage point meant that he could clearly see the battle, and had from a long ways off, but getting to it was another matter entirely. The young bull had been running for quite some time now and was only just reaching the general area; though, thanks to the training he received as a warrior's son and not being as complacent with his life as a pony, he wasn't entirely out of breath and could still fight.

He concentrated, feeling out the energy that permeated Gaia and deciding where he need to push it to get the results he desired as he came close. There was nowhere near enough water left in the air to make real rain clouds, not with the serpent's fires still burning and drying everything out. However, that same dryness worked against the serpent as well; the ground was bone dry as well. At a light prodding from Boipelo, the ground in front of his burst upward and buried the flames before it; as sand couldn't burn, it doused the flames. He prodded again as he, more sand billowed up and effectively created a path through the flames for him.

When he reached the battle proper, he kept going, still prodding the Ley Lines to put out the flames until he could get enough wetness in the air to actually make a rainstorm. When Apep's forces neared him, he merely swung his head and neck low, bashing them aside as he'd learned in training. This was a battle, he would show no mercy to his enemies.

Up above, in the cargo hold of Noblesse's airship, a pony grunted and cursed as she pulled herself out of a crate much too small for her. "Okay, note to self." Skye Wishes muttered, stretching to pop more than a few joints and rubbing her plot to get feeling back into one side. "Next time I do this, pick a bigger box." With her rear finally not numb, the earth pony bucked one of the other creates near her, tearing the top off to reveal a backpack like device and several labeled saddlebags. "And now, here's where things get good."

She slipped the pack on, then hung the saddlebags around her neck to easy access. It was a bit weighty, but she was an earth pony, she could take it.

Now finally 'suited up', Skye merely walked out onto the bridge of the air ship and, pausing only to say 'Hi' to the navigator, jumped up on the guard railing. "Geronimo!" She screamed out the name of a famous buffalo warrior (as was tradition) and jumped ship into free fall. For a moment, it looked like the mare was committing suicide for whatever reason, only for the pack on her back to suddenly spring open with canvas wings and turn into a one pony glider. At the last moment, she angled herself upward and swooped over the battlefield, cackling like a pony possessed as she flew over the flames and toward the giant snake thing.

Now that she was flying, however, she reached into one of he bags and fished out what looked to be a glass tube. "HERE COMES THE BOOM!" And she tossed the item down at the black smoke. It tumbled for a moment, then hit with the sound of shattering glass, followed immediately by a blindingly bright flash.

Skye smirked as she reached for another and threw it down as well; her 'flashers' might not have been all that destructive or incendiary, but they were DAMN bright.

And Galaxy? Well.....

"THAT! IS! A! LIE!!!"

She was firing magic missile after magic missile at Apep. Admittedly, it was like a gnat trying to fight an ursa, but they did like to say 'every little bit helps'. Not to mention, her voice was still booming out over the plain thanks to her amplification spell. "You may have killed so many of them, you may even be getting power from that if that magic seeping toward you is any indication! And she silently hoped that the others around her would pick up on the hint she had just [/b]dropped regarding Apep and his strength. "But I am still very much alive!"

She suddenly turned as some... thing, she couldn't bothered to discern what from it's outline, jumped at her from behind and telekinetically knocked it away with a shout of effort. "I don't care what you are, what you can do!" She was shouting at Apep again, as stupid as the idea sounded on paper. "What makes you think you can kill a god when you can't even kill one!" She bucked at her assailant as it came back to more. "Measly!" She used a shield to stop another, then pushed it into the first. "Defective!" And she fired another volley of magic missiles at Apep again. "UNICORN!"

OOC POST
OKay, let's clarify some things here. A) Shadows are made of a condensed lack of light. Apep controls their density, so "biting" at them and such isn't going to do much because you'd be effectively biting air.

B ) People outside the dome aren't going to see a gang of folks standing at the center of a burning field. They're going to see a large dome of blackness. This is also permeable at Apep's will, and he happily welcomes newcomers into it easily (again, about like walking through air), you just can't get out.

C) Apep's forces are Apep. That's it. If you want to claim that he has conjured shadow warriors to fight for him, then okay I guess, but again, fighting shadows.

Now we will proceed with our regularly scheduled mini post.

The falling explosive box caught the ponies within Apep's dome by surprise. It fell like so many stones directly upon two of the NPC Changelings, crushing them beneath it, before exploding and sending glassy shrapnel into their brains. The burning flare ensured he would have no chance at survival, and with their deaths, Apep gave another rattling laugh. Let the screaming unicorn see that with her dead, dead eyes.

The wash of power that came from taking immortal lives vastly exceeded that of the mere mortals.

He welcomed the two newcomers into his strong hold. More foals coming fresh to the slaughter. He garbed them in their own ceremonial nooses, the airy shadows coiling around their necks.

As Galaxy cast her glittering spells, the nooses upon the magicless warriors tightened, each spell causing them to lose another measure of slack. It was gradual, subtle. The last thin-necked aerosphinx was the first to realize, and as he made to speak, and reveal the game, Apep tightened its grasp abruptly, pinching off the creature's head entirely.

The four zebras, however, flocked to stand beneath the vague shape of the flying earth pony, the one who had created the explosion, and with synchronicity the implied great experience, they began producing small clay vials from their saddle bags. Quickly and smoothly, they tossed their heads, loosing the vials to crash in a specific order on the same spot upon Apep's dome. The explosion that resulted was not nearly so bright as the one from Skye's box, but the four of them moved in towards it, almost as suicidal as their new ally had been. And for a brief moment, their own shadow nooses disappeared.

It was unfortunate that the mixtures were too caustic to apply directly to the rapidly being consumed Moon Chaser.

At this time the following NPCs remain:

One sphinx (mortal; Non mage)
Four zebras (mortal; synchronized chemical explosive throws, apaprently)
Two earth ponies
Two pegasus ponies

Regarding the status of PCs:

Blackflame is unconscious, having fallen prey to the Rest command.
Moon Chaser cannot move under her own power (except her mouth).
Everyone else's nooses are getting tighter as Galaxy rants.
Ra is standing very, very still, eyes closed.

'Rest'

It was so simple. She just had to close her eyes. Sleep. There'd be Meadow, and no pony could fault her. No God or Dragon. At the last she'd fought, she hadn't fled or faltered, flagged or fallen. She fought a god himself and done everything she could, given everything she possible could give, until all she had were her mind and her voice. And she'd fall here, consumed by shadows, and some patch of foreign soil would be forever Equestria. And when Ra and the Zebras won, as they must, she would just be a foot note. Maybe some scholars would remember her name.

It was fitting, she was not a legend, she was a mare. To stand against a god was more than enough, she'd done her duty. She didn't want fame, power, adulation. Rest, was more than appealing.

Ṉ̠͕̳͗ͪ̅͝o̓̊̆t̸͇̻̱͎̼̹̹ͮ̄ ̳y̼͔̹̮̓̑͌͆͆̊e͂̚t̶̪͇̖͓̋.͎̞̚

The Cur; This was Morpho's game. Make her watch the suffering, have her powerless to do anything. 'Bride'? Moon new it was no boon, new it would make her body a shell to his will, she sensed it...

She sensed it! Of course, the overconfident foal. She took a secret and wrapped in a safe place, a shiny treasure to distract Ra as he probed her insides, at the corners of her mind. And while he was occupied, she followed the writing tendrils back to their center and probed the madness. It could not be safe for her psyche, if the invasion of her body wasn't traumatic enough, the touch of his mind would see her broken. But that would come after. For now she would follow the pathways of his mind and steal his secrets before turning them upon him. She would latch herself into his mind and see him ruined if she had to break herself to do it.

The foal. Still it wouldn't be long till he worked out what he was doing. She had to step quietly in his mind so as not to arouse his defenses. She had to keep him distracted. She raised her voice once more in song.

"The sun'll come out... tomorrow. Bet your bottom talent that tomorrow there'll be sun. Just thinking about tomorrow, clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow, 'till there's none. When I'm stuck with a day, that's gray, and lonely. I just stick out my chin and grin and say~"

Icefox

Icefox watched quietly, only paying nominal mind to the tightening noose around his neck. His cousin was dead, his sister's best friend was dead and regenerating, and it seemed he would follow soon. At least he could still move; the noose wasn't confining him as a real rope was. He looked over at the body of his cousin and was surprised to see Ra himself standing over it, watching vigilantly like a wounded hound performing his last act in protection of his friend.

Ice was about to turn away from the sight when something caught his eye, a gleam of red that reflected the light of one of the small fires still burning within the circle that was their execution ground. He walked over to it and drew Blackflame's prized swords off of his body, fitting the sheath belts around his own waist. A thought began to trickle through his mind; rope could hang a pony because the substance inherent in it was in conflict with the substance of the pony it was hanging. Thus, if this darkness was also going to hang him, it would need a similar substance or it wouldn't be able to grip his neck.

And if something has the strength of a rope, it also has the weakness of a rope.

He drew Blaze out of it's sheath, bringing the blade up to his neck and spearing it straight through the darkness, severing it and letting the congealed anti-light fall to the ground. He pressed his advantage, taking off toward Skye, before pulling a few of the saddlebags off her neck and slinging them over his own back.

"Thanks Skye, I'll bring 'em back soon." He looked down on the field, sword in one hoof and blasting rod in the other, his duster billowing out behind him as he descended to the surface. Impressed by the sight, the last of the NPC changelings changed into a dragon, before using his claws to tear his own noose free and standing beside the professor.

"Apep! Son of darkness and scourge of Pundani! Leave this place now, and we shall spare you. Continue to fight, and we will never stop. Our bodies may fall, but our legacy will never die. You will never be at peace. Our kind will always stand against you, and one day we will win. Apep! ANATHEMA SIT!"
