Of course, what the dragon had forgotten was the runes on the punching bags. As soon as the force field went up, they started glowing and the bags themselves started to move.

It was a simple pattern, really; the green bags would run away from the red on and the red bag would strategically move to put as many of the green ones as possible between it and Relucesco. The fact that they could all apparently fly made it a bit more difficult to predict where everything would end up; there was a reason that pegasi tended to be the best at this particular game.

Speaking of pegasi, Fireflare turned as Rough Cut started to walk away. "Hey! Nonono, you're staying here and you're going next." She stepped between the pony and the exit with a glare. "Trust me, I have a reason for doing this and I will NOT let you get out before you hear me out. So you're going to stay here, and watch." A firm hoof pointed at the pit as Fireflare pushed Rough Cut back. "Now, tell me what you see, huh?"

Wishing Star deftly divested Fireflare of Glory Star and the blanket before settling herself on a nearby bench. If horseplay was going to occur, then she might as well get comfortable; these fighter types often made a day out of their competitive dick-measuring. Tucking the pegasus filly between her forelegs and flicking to the next page of the forms she had been suckered into filling out, Star stared briefly at the papers. Just what were these forms? What was she filling out?

Setting the sheaf of forms aside with a sigh, Star decided to let it be until she could ask what exactly she was applying for. Moonshine was still stan- No, Moonshine had somehow wandered down to the shielded dome and was walking across the forcefield, watching the dragon underneath with great interest. Oh Sisters. That shield was going to vanish as soon as Lucky fulfilled his objective, and it didn't look like doing so would take the dragon very long at all.

"Fireflare? Can you, uh, go grab Moony? He sort of wandered off..." said Star, pointing towards the wayward colt. Fireflare would be the one able to get there the quickest; there was no telling what a teleportation would do to that barrier spell, and the odds of Rough Cut being able to outrace a pegasus were slim.

She got in about a second or two of pushing before they both stopped dead. Rough stared at the mare pushing on her, her now unarmored hide tensed just a bit, "I'm not leaveing I'm going to get something to dry off with, the walk was warmer than I expected and now." She gestured to herself and the gear draped across her back, "I'm a little sweaty. If you can tell me where I can find some dry towels I'll be back sooner."

Her ear swiveled to face Wishing Star, then she looked at the brown mare. She looked then returned her gaze to Fireflare, "Married?" She figured it was the case, but best to get everything clear.

Relucesco likely looked quite the fool. He was chasing the dummy around, single minded, while trying his best not to gore through the dummies in his path. It was starting to annoy him so much, why couldn't he just cut a swath through these irritating things and just be done with it? The more annoyed he got, the wore he seemed to be doing, beginning to slam into the barriers sides.

The worst thing was when the dummy took to the air. even though he had wings, to his shame, he couldn't fly. The thing seemed to mock him, to want him to get angry. If that was the case it certainly seemed to be succeeding. After slamming into a barrier for the umpteenth time he was ready to just start firing flames and hoping for the best, when he actually got an idea. He backed as far as he could from the opposite end of the barrier, allowing the dummies to arrange themselves. The red backing away from him as much as it could, while the greens forming a sort of barrier between them. He drew his broken blade but, perhaps surprisingly, set the broken bit with the hilt on the ground and shook a shard of the blade from the sheath instead.

"They say this trick always works. I hope that's true when you're only using part of a sword." He chucked the shard up at the roof, with surprising precision. It hit the top of the barrier, ricocheting off and spearing through the red dummy. Relucesco sighed and went to retrieve the orb.

"Well that was interesting."

Fireflare rolled her eyes. "A little bit sweaty? Really? Suck it up, this isn't a spa." Her ear swiveled at Wishing Star's call and she nodded. "And yes I'm-- Moonshine!"

The pegasus dove at her son, managing to grab the colt just as the shard ricocheted under him. They landed in a roll on the other side of the arena, Flare's ears swivelling as Brick Wall blew the horn again. "For--Moonshine, I know you want to watch, but you CAN'T walk on the forcefield! It--Just... Listen. Stay with Mommy, okay?" She rubbed her forehead and sighed, trying to figure out how to discipline him without really hurting him, but eventually settled on just plunking him down next to Wishing Star and giving him a firm glare.

After that was done, she looked up at Wishing Star. "Um... I know I gave you the paperwork for those two adventurers... maybe you should, er, take the kids to some other room while you fill it out..." It was one of those awkward moments where Fireflare didn't want to outright order Wishing Star to do something but felt it might be safer if the unicorn complied with her suggestion.

Brick Wall gave the pair a glance as he calculated Relucesco's final score. Derived from a combination of the amount of time it took and the amount of blue cotton out on the field, the scoring was made so that lower numbers were actually better. The dragon had managed to get a relatively small score of 238, not exactly top ten material but definitely not that bad. The Arena staf, meanwhile, began setting up for the next bout, giving Rough Cut some rather discerning looks.

"I'm sorry." said Wishing Star and Moonshine almost simultaneously, ears flattening in a gesture of submission as a nearly identical look of contrite settled on their faces. Mother and son glanced at each other briefly in surprise, before turning back to the irritated pegasus who was still technically the head of the household. Even if Star usually took the lead in the bedroom, in day to day affairs Fireflare was the natural dominant partner in their little family; the 'father' figure of the group. The fact that she was actively restraining herself from berating them both, for misbehavior and inattentiveness respectively, was immediately obvious to both unicorns and they were leery of crossing her further. Moonshine had never had a spanking, and Wishing Star knew that Fireflare would only raise a hoof against her if she went insane again and threatened their children somehow (and maybe not even then), but somehow a shadow of force held in check loomed over the exchange.

"Can you at least tell me what it is I'm filling out before I go? I don't really know enough about either of them to be signing them up for anything..." said the abashed mare carefully, feeling out the waters as Moonshine pressed himself into her side and looked up fearfully. The little unicorn didn't know why he was scared; only that he was. Something about Madre being angry was frightening.

Rough Cut rolled her eyes, was this one really that dense? Did she not know that sweat was a death sentence in cold weather. Optimally one should be comfortably cool under their clothes and armor in weather like that which continued to rage on outside, anything warmer and you might begin to sweat, which would quickly drag out your body heat and that would just as quickly lead to an untimely demise. "Spa. As if." She muttered as she worked a towel over herself. It'd been on a cart in one of the halls and she resolved to return it to the same when she was done.

She reappeared from another entry point to the Arena, she looked about, spotting the pony responsible for all this nonsense. She walked over and dumped most of her gear and the towel one a nearby bench, "Cold'll kill you quick if you're sweating in your armor." She stated plainly going through a quick roll of the shoulders. She quickly snuggled into the chest and back plating, attached their latches and stopped at that. "Kill the red one, right?" She asked rhetorically as she wandered onto the arena floor without her sword or any other gear. Herr hooves were bare, bereft of even shoes normally worn by the populace writ large.

She stood waiting for everything to start, her eyes focused like a laser on the dummy was to be her target. She wouldn't be so crass as to lie to herself and say it would be easy, but the task wasn't at least complex.

Relucesco felt a bit embarrassed as he left the field. All these ponies were staring at him as they set up for the next round. Probably because of how much of the cotton he'd spilled. How had such a simple exercise given him that much trouble? Did he really have so much to learn. He looked away from them and decided to return to Fireflare and Wishing Star. Hopefully they wouldn't bring up his shameful performance. As he left, he noticed the armored mare seemed to be taking the test as well. He was actually interested in seeing what happened. It would either show him flaws in her technique, or give him some sort of benchmark to aim for.

He quickly found his way back up to the higher floor and sat wordlessly to watch.

"It's a probationary partnership liscense for those two," Fireflare explained. She glanced at the dragon. "He has got experience, but not... direction, or understanding of how cities work. She's got the opposite problem," the pegasus added as Rough Cut walked by, "She wants to be a badass hero type but she's only got a vague idea of how and doesn't seem to grasp the implications. And they both need to learn judgment. I think they'd work well together if they needed to." She cracked a smile. "And besides, they make a cute couple."

Reaching out, she ruffled Moonshine's mane gently. "Don't worry, kiddo, Madre was just... scared that you could hurt yourself. I'm not really angry at you..." Her gaze turned to Wishing Star. "Either of you."

The sentimental moment was broken when Brick wall blew the horn again.

"...I don't think partnering them is a good idea, hon. Hiya Lucky, good job out there." said Star, breaking off to greet the arriving Dragon, before returning to her statement.

"She's hardly the kind of pony that Lucky needs to be learning how to behave in society from, no matter how cute they look together." said Wishing Star, looking at the situation from her own point of view. Rough Cut was the last pony one needed to learn the niceties of civilized life from; it was a mystery to the unicorn how the adventurer hadn't been arrested yet.

Moonshine, for his part, seemed reassured by Fireflare's assertion that all was well...but he'd never forget that oppressive sense of actions that didn't quite take place. From now on, every once in a great while, he'd flinch when his madre reached for him rather than moving to greet her touch. Needless to say, he wouldn't be straying from his mother's side again that day.

She'd seen enough to know that injury to the not-red bag would deduct points. As the horn blew she charged forward, yelling out at the bag, "Your days are numbered!" Instantly she felt silly, yelling out a challenge to an inanimate object, really oh well. She moved with a heavy sort of grace, pounding toward the Red bag and avoiding the other bags. She tried to imagine this as a fight against a pegasus that was trying to take hostages, but was also really bad at it. The other bags she turned into scared looking ponies, foals, colts and fillies. With this in mind she was ginger around them, they were helpless against her and against the maniac red-sphere containing bag, did she think red bag? Nope.

The path to her target left nowhere to build up a good charge with. It kept tossing and pushing foals in her way. Thankfully she wasn't wearing full battle gear, just enough to remind her that she normally wore it. She made heavy dodges out of the way of more than one bag, but eventually she couldn't get out of the way of one. The impact toppled her even though the bag its self would not have had enough mass to normally. She landed under it, carefully putting it down before getting up and moving again. She could swear she saw Wishing Star watching her, judging her to be some crazy mare; how else would she see the earth pony after their first encounter.

"Get down here you sack of fluff!" After roughly thirty seconds of running, dodging and getting hit by civilian bags Rough Cut was close enough to make an attempt at grabbing it. She leapt forward, mindful that it would try o put new targets between it and her. Her grab would not be followed up with tearing, just in case she caught a different bag than her target; a strong possibility given the bag's maneuverability.

Relucesco gave a small growl of acknowledgment when he heard Wishing Star's greeting, but wasn't paying much attention. He was still pondering how he could have gotten to that bag without spilling any of the cotton on the field. It brought him at least some small comfort to see that the armored mare seeded to be having a bit of difficulty as well. He sat quietly rerunning the scenario in his head before noticing something odd. When he'd tossed the bit of his bled toward the topp of the barrier , there was something up there. He glanced at Moonshine from the corner of his eye, and huffed. Had this been an actuall scenario, he could have kiled an innocent with his negligence. It was clear he needed more training.

"So, how is the 'adventurer' progressing?" he eventually said, solemnly.

Fireflare glanced into the arena. "Brute forcing it. See, Star, this is why I want to partner them. Lucky examined the situation and came up with a workaround, where Rough Cut is all Attack Attack Attack! But the thing is Rough Cut did some research into all this combat stuff, her armor is... well, it would be okay if it wasn't so, you know, made for looking. I mean look at that shine, that's ceremonial stuff is what it is! My point is she's not going to give up. Don't know why, she sucks at it, but if she wants to be an adventurer Lucky here is a great mentor, and I hope she's rational enough to help him understand pony society to some degree."

"If you say so, hon. I still don't think it's the best idea." said Wishing Star, before subsiding into her seat and hugging her children. Fireflare wouldn't be convinced that binding these two hot-blooded warriors together was a bad idea, but she didn't have to be; Star just wasn't going to fill out the paperwork. The odds of the two of them ending up locked in a duel to the death over a perceived slight were too high for the unicorn to risk binding them together in any official capacity.

And she missed, tackling an innocent pony err bag in the process. "Damnit. Sorry." She set the bag upright as the Enemy Bag decided to get altitude. Green and red, so far neither side had lost anything, Rough Cut however was running out of options. She couldn't reach it, and the thing continued to taunt her with its existence and its continued assaults on the green bags. Foals and colts and fillies. That's how she saw them all, helpless to stop her and helpless to stop it. The stopped to think, watching it fly about and harry the other bags; sure she could do something like grab a green bag and hurl it at the red one, these were after all only animated objects. That option however was off the table, without question, no way could she toss about a civilian to take down an only slightly violent offender, no matter how annoying the offender. She considered announcing that she was done with it, but quickly decided against it, she was a lot of things but she wasn't a quitter.

She watched for a little while longer as the red sphere containing bag rushed around bumping and scaring the other bags. This was clearly a Pegasus's game, not one meant to be played by somepony on the ground and for a moment she could almost feel the sense of superiority coming off the Pegasus in the stands; now she understood why they got along, sorta. That however wasn't the point, there had to be something else, something non-lethal to use. Her eyes swept the arena, trying to ignore for the moment the movement of all the green bags, the task was hard as she till was imagining them to be scared children. Barbell. Cotton. More cotton. Empty bags. Her eyes swung back to the bags. A few bags near the center of the arena had not animated with the rest. They had been crushed by accident in the previous 'match' and left there in the middle. That'd do perfectly.

Her plan was three fold, first, acquire disguise. Second, round up some animate bags to hide among. Third, Ambush. She smiled at the idea of the plan. Of course it would only work if the Red Bag was not being directly controlled by one of the unicorns on the sidelines. If it was, then Rough Cut had better just give up and be done with it.

"Alright." She said to herself quietly, "Time to party." She looked up to check on the red bag, it was on an outward trajectory at the moment, chasing down a particularly spry green bag. Time being of the essence she ran to the downed ponys... Bags, the down bags and scooped up their remains. She kept on going, sliding past a group of the green bags, without a moment to spare she used a relatively sharp part of her armor to stab an eye hole in the bag. Some quick tears made the bag into a green robe. She checked again for the red bag, now it was closer to the ground, scattering a group of 'calmed' bags like they were a flock of pigeons.

As the red bag reared back up, the pony was gone, replaced by an additional mobile green bag. Not being a wary entity it didn't see the problem, though now it was confused, where had the pony gone? Had it given up? No, that seemed unlikely, it was probably hiding, maybe inside one of the big groups? It swung down and buzzed the largest group, scattering the bunch to the four winds. Stopping to look, it saw nopony at all. Weird. Oh well! it thought in the primitive intellect given it by the animation spell, more fun for me! before resuming its assault on the innocent citizenry of Arenapopolus. It amused the animated punching bag to no end, scaring things and making the bags fly off every which way.

On the ground Rough Cut did her best to keep under her new robe and keep her only exposed eye on the flying red bag. As she watched she noted it become more bold, apparently it hadn't seen her and was now just terrorizing everything at will. Eventually, several minutes of the nonsense later it got around to trying to spook her. It buzzed past her, but as she planned, she did not run from it, instead she 'cowered' against the ground and waited, eye open for it to return. The bag did, gleeful that it had found the fradiest fraidycat among all the many bags around the arena. It flew down close and covered part of its 'face'. As it did, Rough Cut spoke, "Boo." And in a swift motion lurched forward, grabbing the bag around the middle.

They wrestled for a moment, then the red bag took off, with Rough Cut hanging from the bottom of it by her armor. A few seconds in the air and the robe fluttered loose, showing Rough Cut to be holding on for dear life. A few seconds into the flight however she lost her grip and her armor tore a massive hole in the red bag. The target flew off, only to have its coveted orb flop out of the gaping hole in its stomach, while Rough Cut fell two stories down to the floor. She landed without a great deal of grace, a punishing landing that was barely mitigated at all by a clumsy roll, then slide on the stone floor. "Ow!" She yelled out, looking around for the red bag as she slowly got up, "Where'd it..." Then her eyes happened upon the bag and its contents, separated. She trotted over in a bit of pain then picked it up. All that damn trouble for a stupid thing to shut up a stupid annoying pegasus. Gah.
