Releseco was confused, yet intrigued. Hiding amongst the enemy to achieve a goal. It wasn't like he couldn't appreciate the ingenuity, but hiding didn't seem his style. Even if a gleaming white dragon, with golden horns and arms could try to blend in, that is. Ultimately he wasn't quite sure what to make of the match, or the mare who'd just completed it. He had believed that he'd be able to defeat her handily, but this showed that she was a creature with at least considerable cunning. At the very least he should keep his guard up.

He snorted a small plume of smoke and continued his contemplation. Perhaps he had made a mistake underestimating these ponies. After all, his own master was one of them. Still this mare was no master, he concluded.

"What were our scores?" He said gruffly. "I need to know my next goal if I want to get any better."

"Hey Brick! Score up!"

"Dragon got 238. Lady got 576."

"Ooooouch." Fireflare winced. "Wow, she really got it bad for that move with the green bag. In this game," she added, "smaller scores are better scores."

"What was your best score, hon?" asked Star, still cuddling the absolute hell out of her foals. Moonshine was bearing up to it with equanimity, and Glory Star didn't even notice, choosing to sleep through it. She wasn't hungry and hadn't soiled herself yet, so as far as she was concerned, there was no reason not to just stay asleep.

Rough Cut was slow to get back to her hooves, the fall had been rough and at this point she wasn't concerned about a score for a game made up by pegasi. Her solution, grim though it was, worked and given that it was just a bag and nothing more she was OK with that; beside the fact she knew if it were a real situation, she'd have had terrain to exploit, her full complement of gear and probably assistance from airborne heroic types. She let out a sigh and started out, favoring the whole of her left side, the side that had slid across the ground.

"Not bad I think, for no weapons." She had a smug sense of satisfaction at that, no wings, no weapons, only had to mutilate a bag. She'd have done something similar in real life, though with a pony form instead, entice the target to come down to her level so she could stab the crap out of it. She breathed in deeply as she passed the threshold of the arena floor, "So, that it? Can I get a bounty posting now? Or would you like me to show jump a bit first?"

Deep Impact couldn't help but let out a small growl when he heard the "no-weapons" comment. He couldn't help but think of the statement as a challenge. That somehow he had done the exercise wrong.

"Not all of us can cower beneath the skin of the enemy." he muttered. He felt bitter, even if the scoreboard claimed he had won, he still felt that he'd shown himself the inferior. He'd come close many times to just eradicating the lot of the dummies, his footwork had been clumsy to say the least, and that bitter comment just sealed it. No matter how hard he tried, composure seemed beyond his reach.

"Another round." He said tapping his claws impatiently. He wanted to stay and just keep running the exercise. He'd keep at it till he could slice that bag apart without touching a single fiber on those green bags.

"Eh, I got, you know, 78." Fireflare rubbed the back of her head. "Clipped a greeny with my wing. Still, I'm in the top twenty. Best score ever was a 23, unicorn with a bomb spell."

The pegasus turned to Rough Cut. "Actually, I think the DAIA would be willing to give you a probationary license, if you agree to be partnered with another probationary student." She nodded at Lucky. "There's an employee manual on how to deal with all sorts of monsters, from negotiation--very important--to outright murder. Just don't go out looking for a fight. Fights will come to you."

"Fireflare actually gave me the forms and wanted for me to fill them all out while you guys were doing the whole thing with the bags. I didn't, though; it's not my choice to make. And hon, partnering two newbies together is a stupid, stupid policy to have. What if both of them are inexperienced? Why not send them out with somepony who knows what they're doing so they can learn?" said Wishing Star, showing the two adventurers the packet of forms and papers that she had set on the bench beside her.

"It's not my place to sign you up for something without your permission, and it's not Fireflare's place to rope you into it without asking first, but since we're here...would you both like to sign these and do the whole 'professional monster hunter' thing? The pay is good, if you don't mind almost dying every time you get a job."

There was more than a few seconds of silence from her, nopony ever understood, not without explanation. "I can't," she pushed the documents away before continuing, "You're not the first, I doubt you'll be the last, but the Order is very clear that I am to only be affiliated with them. I can't join the DAIA." She walked to her gear, pulling out the flank guards of her barding. On it, unlike what was visible on her side was a rather simple banner shape. On it, a shield, a roll of bandages and a pair of faces looking outward, one a colt the other filly. This symbology would be reminiscent of banners hung in several of the charity hospitals around Equestria.

She put that down and frowned, "There are rules for ponies in my position. And one of them is that I am barred from joining and thereby flying the flag of another organization. The other agency hubs got it, at least a few of their clerks did and they'd give me the jobs nopony else was taking, here though it's all rules and regulations and liability forms. This isn't even my first visit here. I could get in easy, no problem if it wasn't that I am beholden to my Oath and my Vows." She shucked her armor and began drying off a frustrated and slightly angry look on her face. She didn't want to mention the absolute reaming out she was avoiding. Her superiors no doubt had heard by now of the scene she'd made with Lucky in the streets, they were probably only waiting for her to show up needing a patch job, or to try and find work through them before they dropped the hammer. She shivered involuntarily at the thought.

Relucesco took the forms and began filling them out as best he could. He didn't understand why Wishing Star had been so hesitant to sign him up. He owed her for her kindness, and had come here with the intention of signing on, so what was the problem? Although he didn't like the idea of being saddled with a "partner". He'd wandered from the Badlands to Canterlot on his own, he was sure that he could deal with a monster or two himself.

"I must admit, I did not think this mare the honorable type." he said motioning to Rough Cut. "If she has vows to uphold, simply give her the bounty, and be done with it. I would do best on my own anyway."

"An Order that restricts its members to one group... seclusion. You lose your identity, your friends.... become less of a person then a changeling drone." Fireflare stood up. "Take my advice, Rough Cut. Get out before they indoctrinate you. Everypony needs to have multiple views, otherwise they go mad. The DAIA isn't religious in any way, it's just a company. I mean, sure, you can't get a probation without the good word of a member, but if you've got the proper degree and experience you don't need that. But this Order you're a part of, if they gave you that ridiculously shiny armor, they're more concerned with your looks then your life."

Upon seeing that she didn't really have a place in this conversation, Wishing Star nuzzled Glory awake to see if the little pegasus needed anything. The filly in question gave her mother a sleepy stare before shaking her head, setting her ears flapping in an adorable manner. Her silky-soft mane stuck out in all directions and Star decided to spend the time arranging the puff of fuzz into something presentable.

After all, it wasn't like she had anything else to do.

Rough Cut was silent. Her jaw was slightly agape, eyes wide in shock, words were forming in her mind and fading away just as quickly. This pony she was besmirching the Order and it she wasn't even making a good point in the process! Rough Cut sat and slowly put down her towel, shock had turned to barely contained fury. The miner's daughter needed a bit more time to cool off and spent it looking at and smiling furiously at Lucky of all pony... err people. "Thank you Lucky, I'm glad someone here understands my situation." She didn't sound thankful, she was speaking through grit teeth and a forced smile.

At last she could hold back no longer, she burst up and stomped the distance between them, "You... You're an idiot! My order doesn't even issue armor! It's shiny because I got it buffed yesterday, because I wanted to look good while I was in Canterlot!" She galloped suddenly back to the pile then hurled forward the potion she had worn into the ring. It landed near Fireflare's hooves for close inspection. The plates that covered the back are heavy steel plates, a little thicker than necessary and not entirely even, "Do you know how long I had to go, how many monsters I killed, how many stays in an Order hospital I had before I collected enough Sisters damned bits to buy real armor? A lot. This armor isn't some Ceremonial piece, it's all business and hard steel plates." She was walking back, and trying to get in Fireflares face.

"I'm not agile like you pegasi, and I was and will never be rich enough to buy a fully custom fitted enchanted up suit of armor like those rich snobs at the top of the mountain have sitting in their closets. This is what I have, it's rough and heavy and sometimes I like to get it buffed so I don't look like I just walked out of a thrift armor store! And I don't appreciate you mocking it, or my Order. My Order is full of good ponies that do good things! They'd rather I was a nurse or a doctor or hell an orderly and someday when I'm beat to hell I might be that last one, but right now the best good I can do for Equestria is walk the roads and clear as many as I can of monsters and of monsters disguised as ponies." She was trying at this point to stab a hoof into Fireflare's chest.

"My Order doesn't take anything from me, they give me places to sleep, to find a good meal and when I'm in need they patch me up so I can go out fighting again, risking my dumb ass for ponies like you. They only ask that I fly their colors only and if that means I have to not join your dumb 'company' or whatever, then so bucking be it! They don't care who I talk to, who I love and make love to, only that when the chips are down I follow my vows and put the Order's interests above my petty desire for a little action." As she spoke this time she was backing away a bit and ended looking at Lucky giving him a sorrowful frown, "I was planning how to kill you because I was worried that you were scoping the city out for the best spot to attack it from and against a big guy like you, ya gotta have a plan or you'll end up dead. Besides, I didn't know you were a good pon... err guy. Good guy." She walked up to him during that and tried to give him a playful cuffing against the arm. And then suddenly she was done, energy spent she stood silently astride the being she'd plotted against less than a full cycle before. At least he understood.

"Let me get this straight. Your order let you go off and fight monsters without even giving you any armor? No training? This isn't about whether or not you're a pegasus or an earth pony, this is about what's intelligent. Think. You wanna know how many monsters I've put up with in my twenty years with the DAIA? I have had no less then two thousand, six hundred and forty three separate contracts I had to fulfill. Some of them were solo, some of them were partnershipped. Some of them I had to deal with a single beast and quite a few of them had me dealing with an infestation. I managed to negotiate with the monsters about seven hundred times, missy, I MANAGED TO TALK THEM DOWN. And you know what the DAIA did? Not only did they give me access to weapons I needed, not only would they give me armor if I had ever wanted it, but they also made sure I got everything your precious order gives you AND they let me have my own! Damn! Life!"

Fireflare was breathing heavily by the end of her own rant. She managed to compose herself.

"Look. You were, dare I say it, right to try to figure a way to kill Lucky. I did the same thing when I first saw him. You weren't right to try to provoke him into a fight, that's just stupid. And hey, you're armor's decent. I can respect trying to look nice, not something I'd do but it makes sense. All I'm saying is at the end of the day, caring for your members is a lot different then trying to keep them." She sighed, sitting down heavily. "Way I see it, though, you're being shortsighted. Why do you even want to fight, kiddo? Cause if it's vengeance, I don't think you'll find this a help at all. And if it's to protect ponies, well, you're going about it all wrong..."

Star and the children sat and watched the two mares fight bitterly back and forth, unable to so much as wedge in a single phrase during the constant back-and-forth. As far as she was concerned, they were both right in their own way, and since nopony's life was on the line she decided to keep quiet for now.

There was a lot for Rough Cut to get angry at in that rant, should she start with the way the mare kept assuming that the Order was like her precious DAIA? Or with how she had no bloody clue what she was talking about? Nope, it all boiled down rather quickly. She looked right, lost in thought for a moment, she was desperatly trying to put twenty times three hundred sixty five together without a quill and paper. Ten, then times two and.... Got it! She snapped back to attention, "Bull Crap!" She stepped forward, "Bull. Crap. There is no way you went out on that many contracts! I've been at adventuring for ten years and I got less than three hundred bounties, hell I might have less than two hundred!" She continued, though now she was sure, she needed a quill.

"You say my Order is more interested in keeping me as a member than keeping me alive, I wonder about the management of your company, letting you go out every.... Every... Dangit, one sec." She rushed to her pack and pulled out writing materials, a quill in a rather nice box full of them an ink well and a log. She worked feverishly, muttering numbers past the precariously held quill. When she finished, several moments later she yelled her success, "Every less than three days!" Her tone changed suddenly, the cycle time was far too short, this wasn't just a hard working frequency that was trying to get ones self killed frequency. "Were you trying to get yourself dead?! You couldn't have been that fast in the beginning, you must have spent months of the first few years recovering, that'd make the later years even more dense. You really were. That or you're exaggerating severely. You're DAIA, I'm an adventurer, leave the exaggerating to me!" She said with more pride than she'd intended, though clearly Fireflare was tossing out some BS, there was no way in Rough's Cut's mind that anypony could complete that many missions a week and not collapse from injury and fatigue long before their twentieth year of doing it.
