Yeah, having no taxes would not be good at all. The only way we could get away with it is if the government starts controlling companies and we turn into a socialist state. Isn't that called a Socialist Democracy or something like that? I don't think that is too bad of an idea but the masters (corporations) would not be happy at their pets (politicians). In Kuwait the people don't have to pay taxes because the government makes so much money of oil.

Hey, it's back.

Social Democracies in the modern era (Post WWs) are mostly just politically democratic - everyone gets the vote no matter what they own - and economically they take a whole lot of taxes - on a progressive scale - and subsidize a whole lot. See northern Europe, Canada etc.

True socialism is state control of industry and production, regulated prices, subsidies, etc. Believe it or not this is actually a 16th century idea. Monarchs in power got aristocrats to hire and train skilled laborers in a number of given fields - they called them "guilds", and the skilled laborers, "guildsmen". These laborers and aristocrats didn't really have alot of say in what kind of industry or production they were assigned with, but the Monarchs and in some cases the parliments mad sure that all of the state's needs were met through these guilds. They regulated prices, most of the time at affordable levels. It wasn't bad, the countries didn't make a ton of money, but the people were provided for and it strengthened national unity. Italy was full of capitalists and buisness men who couldn't cooperate, for centuries, and they didn't unify until the late 19th century, but they had money.
